I've never played an anything in Starfinder before, so I'm sure that I'll have questions and make mistakes.

For those of you who don't already know, since this is a free module and the boons are free to look at, playing this unlocks the skittermancer race (Alien Archive page 104), well not immediately, you have to play 20 scenarios after you play this one. In lameness terms, when it comes to Gameday scenarios, you want this one to finish first instead of last, so you can immediately gain credit for it. That doesn't mean we all have to rush through it though. But also, think about what class would go with that.
Also, later on is Starship combat. It is entirely optional and will not affect how many credits you get or the boons. Nor can it affect death. It is in part 3 of this module and I know a lot of people dislike Starship combat. Do you wish to do this?

I was wondering if that was one of the boons from this scenario...good to know.

I'm of two minds about this. I haven't tried Starship combat yet, so I wouldn't mind getting a chance to try it out.
But since I haven't tried it I don't know if it's bad and don't want to do it if it is bad and I don't have to and don't want to force everyone else to do it just to satisfy my curiosity.
So...that's a long way of me saying...I'll let the rest of the group decide.

I've done one starship combat and it's not difficult. It's very different than regular combat for sure and you may want to experience it before it's a life or death situation just to see how you feel about it. Unfortunately some classes are terrible for starships (Solarian) and others classes can basically run the ship by themselves (Mechanic) so sometimes it depends on what you're playing weather you like it or not.
Ok, I'm going to stop rambling now. If we had to decide right NOW I'd say let's do it, but since we have time we can discuss this in more detail later.

I was just thinking, do the 20 scenarios have to be played by the character that we credit this game to or can that be split amongst multiple characters?

From my understanding you just need to slot this boon to "A" character to get credit toward the 20. Just remember if you have this slotted with character A you can't slot it with character B until character A is done the adventure they are on. If that makes sense.

Dang, I was just hoping to be able to make a skittermancer faster. Oh well it was worth a shot.

Hey! I was going to make a skittermancer!

I'm a little confused about what's happening.
The airlock has been hacked and locked so we can't get in that way and we only have a round before getting pounded by micrometeorites and then figuring out a way in or the airlock has been hacked and can be opened but we're going to have to spend at least a round exposed to micrometeorites before we can get into the ship?

Now the Paizo's cooperating again, I can answer that. You were examining the hatch, but now your are halfway between the ship and your next destination, and too far away to make it to either in 1 round. You only roll the reflex save once, as you only take damage once. It sucks, because you are in a sense in a danger zone beyond your control, with a character you did not build, so even if you looked at the module this is unavoidable, not even building your character around this to maximize reflex would work (that is a small level of metagaming, but that is not the point), cause you are using a pregen, in other words, this sucks. It does say make the players roll once while outside, but doesn't specify immediately upon exiting the ship, just while outside, so I'm trying to make it less sucky by letting players cast bless or something to up the saves. You cannot take cover or do anything to lessen your odds, this is a pure dice roll. Luckily you only roll once and the only thing I hate about this module.
There is one way around this pure dice roll thing, pure luck thing. DM it first, get your skittermancer boon, get your skittermancer to level 2 and then play him in this module. You can use an SFS legal Skittermancer in this, but really you know how long that would take just to do that? Play by post only a long time.

What're you gonna do? You gotta run the scenarios the way they're run.
Given how brutal survival in actual space is, a single nonlethal encounter isn't too frustrating.

@Gm I have a question before I post IC. Is this like a combat? The reason I ask is that I have 'Inspiring boost." Which allows me to heal 6 damage to an ally if the damage was caused by a significant enemy. Not sure if it works out of combat or not.

I'll definitely be calling for a 10 minute rest once we get in the airls are going to get knocked around badly and have to use RP routinely in an adventuring day.ock to get Stamina back! I think Starfinder pretty much assumes that PC

You are right about that. I just don't like the idea of a hazard beyond your control, unavoidable, with a situation of success measured upon pure 100% luck and no skill, not even character building skills is a way around it.
This doesn't mean I'm against game hazards, but game hazards in a game of pregen characters? If you did build a character, then it is only 95% luck, even if you didn't know it was coming, cause you still could have dex maxed 18. Or had a spell that would have protected you somewhat. Now if you metagamed the knowledge and brought in a character for this specific situation, those are much different luck odds. But as the DM running an SFS game I still have include it, doesn't matter when I do it though, just as long as it is the first danger you encounter. I don't mind luck in D&D games, otherwise I wouldn't be playing d20 based games, but situations 100% based on luck? Like you said, at least it isn't too frustrating. But there is the possibility of the entire party failing the save and the DM rolling the max 18 dmg, or pretty close to it. Doesn't kill anyone, but that's a lot. This sucks more as the player, and I'm also playing it, so I'm looking at it from a player perspective.
Anyway, there is nothing I can do about it, and complaining won't change it, but I'm always going to wonder "why in this module?"
@Gazigaz this is not a combat, and because in SFS, it is rule as written, the meteors damage is not caused by an enemy. If an enemy casted meteor storm, I can allow it, but as RAW, not.
@Azih Pregens, I assume that is what most people would do. I will have to check when that 10 minute rest can be taken.

still here, I check forum every day. It is still crashing for me intermittently. I will post my IC now and hope the site stays up.

This is only my second game so I am learning. Does the roll for boons mean that only Ebon gets a boon for playing this mission?

Hi folks, DG has asked me to step in to run the starship combat if you want to run it. No problem if you don't want to, but I can run an abbreviated version of it if you want to split the difference.

Thanks, GM Paladin. I, for one, vote for taking a pass on the starship combat.
I've done one before and it was entertaining but not something I feel like I'm really missing out on if it gets skipped.
From the OOC comments in the gameplay thread, I think most of the other players feel the same.

I just want to say thank you DG. I appreciate you taking time to run this modual for us.
I also want to thank all the players. I feel like I under performed in this game and appreciate you all covering for my defficiencies.
