Well, then move there with action 1, strike with action 2, cast shield (cantrip, +1 AC, counts as a raised shield) with action 3.

I'm not sure I want to touch it with bare hands, so for now I'll use the staff, even though I'm less proficient.
How hard can it be to hit, right?

I added the bonus damage form Aramil's inspiring song to everyone that didn't have it already. Ziggie is up.
Brewmaster Ziggie Ironstout
Ziggie moves next to Lacrimosa to get a better angle on the foe and fires his heavy crossbow at it. Noting the way it splatters or dodges from his or his allies' attacks, in addition to its general appearance, he attempts to recall anything he might know about it.
[Action-1 move to get as clear a line of sight as possible. Action-2 fire heavy crossbow at ooze. Action-3 Nature check or similar required knowledge check to identify the ooze.

---GM Shadowtail24---
Ziggie's crossbow bolt finishes off the ooze, and the sewage loses it shape and flows around your feet. The filth and slime sticks to your boots and hampers your movement.
The room otherwise appears empty, with stairs leading up at the back end of the room.
We'll exit encounter mode now. You can clean off the slime with an interact action.
Brewmaster Ziggie Ironstout
Ziggie pulls out two oilcloth sacks, coats the inside with assume flour and scoops the ooze-sludge into them. "Never know when something like this might come in handy! Could make a good gravy..." he takes a good sniff from a sack and wrinkles his nose "...or maybe boat caulking?"
Would have used 3 Resonance points to make 2 alchemist's fires, 2 acid flasks, and two tanglefoot bags. Saving 2 Resonance points for Quick Alchemy.
Gaetius Silanus
Assuming the slime doesn't melt Aramil...
Gaetius looks down at his dirtied boots in disgust; this was going to take some elbow grease to clean when they were done with the ossuary. Scraping the slime off as best as he can, then sighing with acceptance that they were not going to be very clean regardless, Gaetius says "Well, that went about as well as we could have hoped for, given that we have never fought together. Well done friends!" The cleric hefts his sword and makes ready to move on to the next chamber once Lac is done here.
Llaichrimosiach Ní Dorchaidhe
I'll also inspect the end of my staff, to ensure the creature's fluids haven't damaged it.
'I'd suggest you wipe your weapons, everyone. We have no idea what that thing was made of.'
Zachary Arimaz
Zachary face is in a grimace of disgust as he scrapes the gunk off as delicately as possible, shaking his hands and shuddering afterwards.
"Yes, let's press on quickly. The sooner we get out of this filth the better. I don't want to get an infection..." he grumbles, peering at the burnt bones and making the spiral of Pharasma over them.
Medicine: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17 Trying to determine what the bones belonged to.
---GM Shadowtail24---
Looks like vermin and small creatures, nothing humanoid.
A quick turn down the passages brings you into a new room. The walls of this long chamber are scorched dark, and the thick layers of soot crusting to the ceiling above attest to the tremendous fire that must have raged through this room in the past. Burial niches in the walls and the row of central pillars contain only fragments of burnt wood and charred bone.
The room stretches almost 100 feet in length, but the din at the far end is still audibly deflecting off the stone walls. The view is blocked, but you can hear what sounds like a few goblins talking among frequent crashing sounds.
Aramil Wellys
Shuttering his lantern enough so the light wouldn't give them away, he whispers, "Llach, Ziggie, can either of you quietly scout and see how many there are?"
He knew shuttering his lantern would hurt the humans' ability to see, but he thought it would be a good idea to find out how many there were before giving away their location.
Llaichrimosiach Ní Dorchaidhe
'I will.'
Does the fire damage look long past, or recent?
Since goblins have a habit of burning things.
And would this be two separate rolls?
Keeping to the wall, I'll go with any other person scouting.
Stealth: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
What a bag o'shite. At least we'll see the fumble rules in action.
Derkut Mar
Derkut tries to stop Lac, but when the Elf presses forward he peels off to the other side of the room and sends his falcon searching.

GM:I’ll wait for Ziggie’s response before resolving
Brewmaster Ziggie Ironstout
1 person marked this as a favorite.
"Don't worry, I got yer back! Let's see what those gobbies are up to..." Ziggie whispers as he follows closely behind Lacrimosa, paying close attention to his steps upon the stone but not the elf ahead of him when she stops and he bumps into her from behind, perhaps causing her to momentarily stumble.
Stealth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Nope, Ziggie is not the scouting type, but I'll have him try it this time because it seemed to fit with the new group starting to work together and giving Lacrimosa some face-saving excuse for exploding a rat skull with her footsteps :) Besides, he's behind a monk and a ranger, what could go wrong?
---GM Shadowtail24---
Lac gets moves quietly for a few steps and then his foot crunches on a bone he didn't see. His foot slips as it cracks and he falls sides into an alcove, dislodging the bones and relics kept there and banging them on the floor.
The building sounds stop abruptly, and soon scurrying feet are moving towards you from the darkness.
I made secret perception rolls for everyone againt stealth for the enemies.

We also did still have a few lanterns up. I'd like to wait to post an action until I see what a few other people are doing, since I go last.
Aramil Wellys
I hooded my lantern to avoid giving us away. Since our attempt at Stealth failed, however...
Aramil throws open the lantern, providing as much illumination as he can for the humans. He then sets the lantern down and casts a quick cantrip to inspire his allies.
Interact Action to open the lantern fully, Interact to set the lantern down, Cast inspire courage with the last action.
Llaichrimosiach Ní Dorchaidhe
I can't view the map right now, but I'll use as much move as possible, to Move up to the goblin (speed 30), and Attack Action kick twice, to silence him.
Flurry 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

damage 1: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Damage from flurry is combined into one hit, for overcoming DR (if any).
I'll make it non-lethal, as we haven't established they're doing anything evil or illegal yet.
If it took two moves, that will be it.
If it was one move, I'll have an action left, with which I'll enter tiger stance, for next round.
Llaichrimosiach Ní Dorchaidhe
Blimey.
Well, I'll have to dive in, and hope the others follow.
Add 1 to all attacks and damage, for inspiration, which I forgot.
Don't know if that turns a miss into a hit, as I'm unsure if they're flatfooted.
Gaetius Silanus
Unable to tell what exactly is up ahead in the gloom, Gaetius advances cautiously forward to support his companions. As he nears the goblins he seeks some cover behind a central pillar, and casts a quick shield spell to bolster his defenses.
Stride twice to get into position, use my third action to cast shield
Brewmaster Ziggie Ironstout
Ziggie charges up and takes cover just to the right of where Gaetius will be, fires his crossbow at Goblin-1, and begins reloading it for his next shot.

Zachary side-steps past the dwarf (Ziggie, an odd name for a dwarf, but easy to remember at least) and then sprints up to the elf, Lac (Zach ponders for a moment the neigh universal complexity of elven names, but quickly discards this line of thinking in favor of focusing on his current predicament), ready to support her if needed.
Unfortunately my move speed is only 20ft/stride, so I had to spend all my actions just to get close.
---GM Shadowtail24---
Lac's attacks both miss the goblin in front of him, but Derkut manages to connect and Ziggie fells the goblin in front of Lac with a perfect shot over the elfs shoulder and into the goblin's head.
Proximity reveals two more goblins behind the pillar.
Round 2
They attack Lac and Derkut.

Don't think Derkut or Aramil's actions will change mine, so here goes.
'Someone watch that passage, to our backs.'
Action 1 Adopt Tiger Stance
On a critical success, the target takes 1d4 persistent bleed damage.
While in Tiger Stance, you can Step 10 feet as long as your Speed is at least 10 feet.
Action 2 Flurry
Attack 1: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 1 = 13
Damage 1: 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 1 = 8
Attack 2: 1d20 + 0 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 0 + 1 = 5
Damage 2: 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 2 + 1 = 10
Ugh. Terrible.
Using a step, step ten feet back to the pillar, to allow Zac to take my place.
Action 3, use Ready, to prepare a Stride, if enemies appear along the corridor.
Gaetius Silanus
Isn't Step an action? Unless monks have some thing that lets them step for free.
Seeing his new gnomish companion getting the brunt of it, Gaetius moves up to support him. He calls out "Fear not Derkut, I have your back!" as he enters the fray.
Stride up to the square just adjacent to Derkut, then melee attack GB3 twice - it should have cover against me.
Attack 1: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 = 7
Damage 1: 1d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 1 = 9
Attack 2: 1d20 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (8) - 1 + 1 = 8
Damage 2: 1d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 1 = 12
Wow, such fail.
Derkut Mar
Yeah, Lac, how did you get the step without an action?
Derkut grunts in acknowledgement of Gaetius, and swings twice. He connects a crushing blow with the but of his glaive that crushes the goblin's jaw. Derkut nods firmly and steps back, motioning for Gaetius to take the lead.
attack1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
attack2: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (18) - 3 = 15
damage 2: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Zachary Arimaz
As soon as Lac steps back, Zachary swings at the distracted goblin.
Attack 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Attack 2: 1d20 + 4 - 5 ⇒ (8) + 4 - 5 = 7
Attack 3: 1d20 + 4 - 5 - 5 ⇒ (6) + 4 - 5 - 5 = 0
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
His first attack connects, his follow-ups serving merely to keep the goblin on its toes.
Llaichrimosiach Ní Dorchaidhe
Sorry, thought Step was still a free action, like the old 5 foot step.
It doesn't draw reactions, but is still an action in itself.
So I can do the step, but not hold a readied action at the end.
Aramil Wellys
Aramil carries the lantern closer to his allies, singing an inspiring ballad.
pick up the lantern, stride forward, inspire courage.
Llaichrimosiach Ní Dorchaidhe

No, I forgot, but it really only adds 1 damage, since I'm pretty sure their AC is still higher than an 8 =P
Brewmaster Ziggie Ironstout
The Brewmaster finishes reloading his crossbow and takes a shot at the next goblin lined up for him in the row (goblin-2) and begins reloading for a third shot.

Gaetius Silanus
I think taking out the goblins is the priority here, not healing Derkut so that he can just get damaged again.
Gaetius raises his longsword overhead, and calls on Iomedae to help him strike down the goblin. "By the power of The Inheritor!" he shouts, as sword and cleric are infused with a divine glow. Then, looking all heroic, he strikes down the goblin before him.
Attack 1 (with Weapon Surge): 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 1 + 1 = 16
Damage 1: 2d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (5, 4) + 3 + 1 = 13
Attack 2: 1d20 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 + 1 = 17
Damage 2: 1d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 1 = 6
First action, use a spell point to cast Weapon Surge, second and third actions are to attack goblin 4. I think both attacks should hit, so that is nice :)
Gaetius Silanus
OK, I will use the action to stride, moving through Derkut (difficult terrain), and north around the pillar. I've moved my token to reflect this.
