Yes, the barrel is, to the best of anyone's knowledge, the 'real deal,' though there's going to be a lot of divination and scholarship to determine whether it has any historical or spiritual connection to Cayden Cailean or if it's just an old barrel. And Tersula and Durnil are in agreement - their plan is to find somewhere else to be - they hear Kaer Maga is lovely this time of year...
Lukian doesn't detect magic from the barrel or in the area of the warehouse. The place seems to be empty from the outside.

![]() |

I assume Cloudia will be disguise now (but that Lukian will save his magical disguise until we're sure it's needed).
Everyone else should use stealth and perception to make sure we're not being watched. Notably looking at nearby rooftops.
I suggest We go to the drop point, leave a note with our demands and exit.
Stealth: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (7) + 0 = 7
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Concept Note:
Dear employer,
You forgot to mention the value of the item you asked us to steal and the strength of the guards. We did successfully acquire the item, but we had to use a lot of resources and we want to receive more compensation to replenish our supplies and have our wounds cared for. We will be waiting at the <insert name of tavern>. Meet us there as soon as possible, or we will be forced to sell the item to another party.

Very observant little gnome is there is something to observe :). Not very sneaky little gnome
The note sounds like a great plan!

![]() |

So the idea is to have Cloudia go in and deposit the note while in disguise, then leave, and all of us wait for someone to come and try to pick it up? what do we do when they arrive? ambush them, or go to the tavern in question and try to get more info out of them?

Yes

Too many variables as they know the terrain.
go to the tavern in question and try to get more info out of them?
This. At least we're on equal grounds there.

Still a 7, lol

Sounds like a plan.
As Cloudia creeps forward to try the door, note in hand, she comes up short - the northwestern cargo doors seem to be boarded shut. The eastern cargo doors don't seem to have the same issue, but they seem to be removed from the track, so it will either take finesse to re-rail them or strength to physically move them. Taking a lap around the building reveals that the small access door on the north is also boarded shut, but may be able to be forced open.
Note the compass on the map - threw me for a loop while I was trying to decipher the scenario :)

![]() |

So there does not look to be any way of entering the building short of forcing a door? How were they expecting to have the barrel delivered if there is no door to go through?
If she can find a door with a gap in it, Cloudia slips her note through, and runs for it.

![]() |

Cloudia starts working on opening the door. She has no disable device and average strength, so she is at it for a while, all the while wondering at the wisdom of sending her ahead to leave a note.
"Wish I had brought a crowbar."
You know, this makes absolutely no sense. Why would they set up a drop off for a barrel and then lock all the entrances to the drop off zone?
After a minute (provided the door does not open), she gives up and goes looking for the others, checking occasionally over her shoulders for followers.

![]() |

I agree. Can the note be slipped under a door? or else just use a dagger to nail it on the door

![]() |

He will cast detect magic just to make sure this is not an illusion or something along those lines.

GMBot Mk III |

For reasons relating to succeeding at the Secondary Success condition, I would strongly suggest exploring inside the warehouse ;)
Lukian does not detect any magic in the area.
Mao, meanwhile, has decided to scout the area and gives a go at heaving open the door to the north.
Strength: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
"I guess someone knew their carpentry when they boarded this up - Uldar, you got that anytool I can borrow? Any of you want to try giving me a hand with this?"
Assuming A Second Chance, Plus Anytool: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 + 2 = 19
Mao's arms bulge with effort, and the door creaks under the strain, but it isn't... quite... opening...

![]() |

Cloudia throws her weight into it in an attempt to aid.
Aid: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Wimp. Unless she gets a bonus from the anytool too.

GMBot Mk III |

With a *CRACK!* the boards covering the door give way, leaving you able to enter.
Adjusted your map position - feel free to place yourselves as your explore the warehouse. I'll ask you to place a line indicating your path through the warehouse - if you do not put something indicating pathing, I'll just assume the most direct route.
Cloudia Perception: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (17) + 0 = 17
Lukian Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Uldar Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

![]() |

"Wow. That's a lot of boxes! If I were 15 years younger I could have a blast in this place."
Cloudia tries to get a peek in one of the boxes whose lid is not firmly attached.

GMBot Mk III |

The boarded-up windows make the warehouse dark, but you have doors open - we'll call it dim light, so I imagine that Cloudia and Mao might appreciate some light spells or wayfinders.
Cloudia looks inside one of the boxes - the entire thing is full of straw as a packing material, and by reaching in and shifting things around, she's able to find what looks like bottles and flasks for potions, beverages, and the like.

![]() |

Thank you.
The little gnome will activate his innate ability to create dancing lights to bring light to the darkness.

![]() |

Cloudia will put a light spell on the tip of her long spear as usual.

![]() |

Mao squints his eyes as he tries to adjust to the dim lighting. He thanks Cloudia and Lukian for providing lighting afterwards. He moves towards one of the corners of boxes and act as a lookout.
Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

Cloudia foolishly moves a bit deeper into the room after casting mage armor on Mao and herself from her wand.

GMBot Mk III |

As Uldar scans the room, he does notice something unique - a large footlocker in the corner with a prominent Keleshite scarab with Saraenrite stylings. It's tucked in the back corner of the warehouse, and is one of the few boxes of it's size in the warehouse that doesn't have other things stacked on top of it.

GMBot Mk III |

Uldar does not see the trap, or any locks for that matter, and flips open the footlocker unimpeded.
Several letters from local collectors and aristocrats offering to purchase the keg are in plain sight on top of the footlocker. The footlocker also contains what appears to be a client list, a Pure Legion uniform, and several official papers discussing the Pure Legionnaire Parani Akar and her record of blackmail and extortion while in the Pure Legion - looks like these were probably stolen from a Rahadoumi military or guard's office. Alongside the official papers is a printed broadsheet, alerting the public to be on the look-out for the escaped ex-Legionnaire, as she was apparently able to escape prosecution under the Laws of Man and was at large.
Also in the footlocker are a potion of delay poison, a potion of cure light wounds, a suit of masterwork agile half-plate armor, and a golden statue of Iomedae worth 600 gp.

"I think this is the proof we are looking for! No need to catch them redhanded. Let's get this footlocker to Torch! Mao, you are the strongest of us, so you get the honor of carrying it to our cart!"
Let's get out the same way we got in!

![]() |

"It can't be so easy. Be on the lookout. If we are caught with these someone might want to paint us as complicit."
Cloudia hurries to the exit to see if any trouble is on the way.

![]() |

Mao gives a few stretches and tries to heave the footlocker.
Do I need to roll for carrying or just base it on the amount of weight I can carry.

GMBot Mk III |

Mao easily lifts the footlocker into the back of the cart and the you all begin rolling back towards Torch with the evidence you've collected.
Mao Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Parani: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Your route takes you right through the God's Market itself, and soon you're in the thick of the riot of tents, hawkers, and the faithful seeking relics and guidance. You pass a number of Greycloaks - tall half-orcs, a couple dwarves, one gnome riding atop a wolf-ish looking dog - but none of them match the description of Parani Akar that you've received so far.
At least until you hear some muttered cursing from up above you, and an arrow arcs out of the sky to attack Mao.
Attack: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
It's a quick and sloppy shot - if Mao had been aware of it, it would have been no trouble at all to dodge it - but as it is, the arrow comes as a painful surprise. And there, crouching on a tent overlooking the main boulevard, is Parani Akar.
Mao's wound begins to itch and burn immediately.
Mao Fortitude Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Whatever was on that arrow leeches strength away from Mao. 1d2 ⇒ 1 Str Damage
New map up! Even with getting her in her "Plan B" position, this is set up to be a pretty hard fight for you all - give it all you got!

Mao sees the danger of being out in the open and runs towards the tent to take cover, taking out a potion.

Mao easily lifts the footlocker into the back of the cart and the you all begin rolling back towards Torch with the evidence you've collected.
How much time has passed since the previous encounters? Because we did have some buffs running (Mao got a Protection from Arrows (50 minutes DR10 vs arrows) and a Mage Armor(1 hour), which would give Mao flat footed armorclass 17. Also as nobody claimed the Delay Poison potion, I suggest we have a rolloff who has it on them.
1=Cloudia
2=Lukian
3=Mao
4=Ulgar
delay poison: 1d4 ⇒ 1

![]() |

If the buffs have run out, Mao needs to make another savingthrow. If he rolls low, I'll use my coin to give him a reroll.
Uldar also walks towards the tent.
"As a Greycloak you probably don't know this: What's the battlecry of a Paladin of Abadar?"
"CHARGE!"
Uldar casts Hideous Laughter (DC 16 will) at Parani.

GMBot Mk III |

You're right, those buffs would probably still have been up. So we'll ignore both the damage and the arrow, and Mao, depending on what your potion was, I'll let you retcon that move if you want.
Will: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
The woman remains looking stony-faced at Uldar, not even a flicker of mirth crossing her face as the spell breaks over her. "You have funny sayings, orc-man? Well, have you heard of a Rahadoumi kiss? It looks like - THIS!" She swiftly fires a pair of arrows, one after the other, at the half-orc.
Attack, Rapid Shot: 1d20 + 13 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 13 - 2 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Attack, Rapid Shot: 1d20 + 13 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 13 - 2 = 25
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Both arrows hit Uldar, though only one actually manages to pierce his armor. (10 damage)
The woman gives a whistle and the hawk screeches, lifting into the air and then dive-bombing the gnome.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2
The hawk, however, is unable to get past the gnome's mage armor.

Parani, Talon

Cloudia puts a little distance between her and the hawk and casts bless, keeping an eye out for the inevitable reinforcements and doing her best to hide.

"You are a fool! Mao is going to beat you to a pulp!"
Intimidate (demoralize): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34
Uldar will make a tactical retreat into a tent.

![]() |

You're right, those buffs would probably still have been up. So we'll ignore both the damage and the arrow, and Mao, depending on what your potion was, I'll let you retcon that move if you want.
Mao, as you are allowed a retcon, what about getting out the potion of Bulls Strength we found earlier and immediately drink it. :-)

![]() |

"You are a fool! Mao is going to beat you to a pulp!"
Intimidate (demoralize): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34
A result of 34 should be enough to make her Shaken for a couple of rounds, so with the -2 on saves, now would be a good time for those Save or Suck spells. :-)

![]() |

Yup. Instead of moving, Mao will drink the potion of bull strength. That takes up both my move and standard action, right?

![]() |

Also, is there a way to climb up the tent where Parani is? How high is it up there? And can it take my 40 ft. speed to take me there during my move action?

![]() |

Yup. Instead of moving, Mao will drink the potion of bull strength. That takes up both my move and standard action, right?
Indeed, draw potion, drink it, 5 foot step towards the enemy. :-)

![]() |

Also, is there a way to climb up the tent where Parani is? How high is it up there? And can it take my 40 ft. speed to take me there during my move action?
Depends on the height of the tent and if you are trying an accelerated climb. If it's 10' high, I think you can make it with a single move and a successful accelerated climb.

![]() |

Is the tent slanted where she is standing and what would happen if she failed a grease spell ST?
