DBH's Untitled Campaign (Inactive)

Game Master DBH

Sadly our Cleric of Besmara seems to have fallen prey to real life and hasn't posted for a week.

Luckily it has happened in the pause between books, so a new crew member is easy to fit into the party. We are looking for someone to fill the role of the party healer in fact.

Details:

7th level.
25pts.
Max Hp's at 1st level, take the average + 1 after that, or roll online, rerolling 1's.
Normal gold for a 7th level character.
No one is evil so avoid that if possible.
All races considered, but do read the S&S players guide to see what fits.
Two Traits, one from the players guide.
Current party is a Human Skald, Human Magus, Half-orc Barbarian/rogue, and a Traveller Gnome Alchemist/Witch.
You don't have to be purely the healer as long as you can cover it well.

Any questions or problems let me know.

7th level, you say? And the campaign I've been looking to play for a while? And my current favorite class?

7th level Cleric of someone-watery is on the way.

RPG Superstar 2013 Top 4

This got me interested. I'll cook up something. Probably a Warpriest (cult leader) of Besmara. ;)

let me see ....

Here is a little cabin boy ... I mean a Halfling cleric of Besmara ...

He was in a campaign that died quite early when the GM had RL invade his play. I can put the guy up to 7th level when I get home and get the points buy correct etc.... But a short starting background is there. He will be cleric/rogue a couple of levels probably ...

Also tend to try and go for building a character around the background, rather than go for the super powered character.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

As tempting as Besmera is I'm leaning toward a human cleric of Calistra

Cecic the Baseborn underway, cleric 5/rogue 2

Upon consideration my schedule is a little busy at the moment, what with pathfinder, life, and other stuff, all at the same time.

Jane looks up at how her god has described her. "I am a crypt breaker, not a traveler.... how odd." she goes back to pondering over her potions brewing on the still.

Side Note, My character doubles for a trap finding sneaky person..

Hmmm... let's dot this one.

A few questions:

Do you allow item crafting?

Background Skills?

Can we take a drawback for an extra trait?

Dot for interest, I'll try to get something up tonight.

Right now I am thinking of a Nagaji Orcale of the wood mystery. He is a primitive who grew up on one of the tropical islands in or near the Shackles. As an oracle he gets all the cure spells but he won't be specifically a healer.

Applying with Freigaar Stingtooth, warpriest (cult leader) of Besmara! Crunch finished, backstory is coming soon.

Crunch kinda set. Let me know if this build would work. Pretty heavily focused on healing and soaking party damage(Life link).

Haven't got the backstory set yet, but thinking because of his race he's getting thrown out of town? Have a cloak of human disguise, but I'm assuming someone saw through it and wants him gone?

@Peet, Item crafting takes place in campaign. Yes to background skills.

@Freigaar. I haven't played or run a Warpriest yet. Do they get the spontaneous casting of Clerics?

@Ni-jin. A straight no to Paladin. They just won't fit into the campaign, or with the crew. As for being run out of town, this is the Shackles, no one gives a damn what race you are.

Yes, they get spontaneous casting and they also have the fervor ability that can be used to heal. I plan on using the parrot familiar to deliver cure spells during battle. ;)

Noted:P I'll rework him tomorrow. Also, didn't mind lawful stupid but after reading a bit, I can see where that might be a problem.

Any possibility of a merfolk skinshaper druidess?

That's fine, as long as you can cover healing.

In-combat healing is generally dodgy at this level and above, so it would likely be using healing after fights or doing spot cures to keep people from dying on the battlefield. Since druids don't get channeling it would have to be cure spells and wands. If that's OK, then sure!

I'm not going to insist on Channeling, there are plenty of ways to keep the party topped up.

OK, cool. I notice nobody has taken any item crafting feats. You wouldn't be using featless crafting, would you?

How do you feel about custom wondrous items?

What about the traits?

Jane is a potion master... on her way at least.

Okay, May I present Shakaro Jun, Nagaji oracle of the Wood Mystery. Shakaro is a STR-based melee fighter who uses buffing spells and abilities to enhance both attack and defense. As an oracle he gets cure spells for free and lots of spell slots.

Character is mostly done, though gear is not finished and a few things need to be ironed out. I also plan on writing out his background in more detail but the point form notes convey the basic gist.

I have also included Craft Wondrous Item, as it looks like nobody in the existing party has it.

Quick Background:
* Raised to be the shaman of jungle tribe of Nagaji. Their village, Jun Tahu, lay on an island off the coast of Garund near a sea cove with a freshwater stream. Occasionally ships would arrive to take on water, and sometimes trade for supplies.

* Taught the "earth secrets" by a group of Ghoran revered by the Nagaji as the "Deep Jungle People."

* Village was plundered by pirates who kidnapped the surviving population, to sell them as slaves. Ship bore a red flag with a black skull and crossed cobras.

* Shakaro was the only survivor. Enraged and hungry for revenge, he waited for another ship to arrive. He swam out to the ship and stowed away, assuming that the ship would take him to the place where ships came from.

* The ship was the Grey Gull, a pirate vessel. Within a few days, Shakaro was caught by the crew. He was given the chance to live if he "worked his passage."

* Though Shakaro was subjected to much abuse by the crew, he gradually learned the life of the sea. But he no longer has any idea where his homeland is, nor does he know what happened to his fellow villagers. His only hope is that he will one day see that red flag again. When he does, he will do whatever it takes to find out what happened to his tribe.

* The Grey Gull was defeated in battle, and Shakaro was either shipwrecked or taken prisoner. Then he could be found by the party.

Build Concept:
* Shakaro is an oracle that mostly uses spells as battle buffs to enhance his performance in combat, though he has some utility spells and a few attack spells.

* Shakaro fights with a large great terbutje, a big wooden club lined with shark teeth that functions as an edged weapon. It is sized for a large creature so he uses it with both hands at a -2 penalty to hit (basically the same schtick that Amiri, the iconic barbarian does). If he needs bludgeoning he also has a large club.

* His primary buff is divine favor which gives him a +3 to hit and damage thanks to the fate's favored trait.

* He uses his Wood Armor revelation to conjure armor made of wood. He also uses magic vestment and barkskin for long term defense buffs. So his AC is decent. The best thing about wood armor: it floats. :)

* He doesn't channel energy, but as an oracle he gets all the cure spells for free. Since he doesn't use his higher level spell slots that often they are mostly available for cure serious wounds spells. He also has lesser restoration though ideally for things like condition removal we should build up an arsenal of things like scrolls.

* Shakaro isn't that smart and a lot of his skills are just average for a character of his level. But he has most of the important bases covered.

@Peet. We're not using featless crafting, no one has bothered to take any, and it hasn't impacted them much. It's a very mobile campaign.

Depends on the custom Magic item.

Traits are one from the players guide, one of your choice.

How about the trusted healer the Crew started with? With investing half of the 23500gold into CLW wands I could patch up the crew through a book or two ;)

Just joking.

“Carve your name on the ever-changing sea with a saber of terror and triumph. Fight for plunder, fame, and glory, and earn your place among the legends of the sea.”

Ok! I've set up for level 7, campaign trait + one other trait, 25 points, standard starting wealth. Current druid spell selection is a mix of buffing and control with a splash of damage, plus a bunch of magic items for healing in a pinch and the ability to make healing potions (super-handy since druids get both remove disease and neutralize poison as 3rd-level spells, meaning I can make those as potions at a cost of 375 gp as long as I have an hour to kill!). Capable of skinshaping 3 times/day for 7 hours at a time, so there should be no trouble with stuff that happens on land. If I need an extended land adventure I can always prepare the fins to feet spell as well. Plus domain spells allow some flexibility with the group (can give other party members water breathing and freedom of movement) and domain power lets her throw her magic spear as an automatic returning weapon at no penalty if combat support is sorely needed!

The applicants seem to have died down, so I'm closing recruitment in 12 hours and will have the lucky character picked at that time. So any last minute changes or entries get them in.

Oh! I just realized that Jane (above) is one of the existing party members, not another applicant. :D In that case taking Brew Potion would be redundant. I'm leaning toward replacing it with War Blessing (nobility, water), which would mean that 1/day each I could give someone in the party a +2 on a bunch of rolls for one minute, and grant a weapon +1d4 cold damage for 1 minute. I could do a different feat, maybe some other item creation, if that doesn't seem handy.

Yep! I'm here to answer any questions if our lovely GM isn't able to.. or isn't around. :)

GM: I sent you a PM about these.

Looking at equipment for Cecic ...

Elven Chainmail +1, darkwood shield +1, lesser metamagic rod of extend, ring of feather fall, rapier +1 with agile enchantment, named blade Besmara's Needle or Mouser's Needle .... Gotta check the costs a bit when I get back, but that's about the size of it... but happy to work with you to finalise anything should you want Cecic in your campaign.

If you don't want another Besmara cleric, would be happy to go to Gozreh and use Gozreh's trident (spell) to use as weapon ... domains, oceans and storms.

OK, after some PMs with the GM I have rejiggered a few things. It was suggested that the Craft Wondrous Item feat wouldn't be very useful in this campaign, so I have swapped it out with Extra Traits. And since I won't be crafting I lowered Spellcraft and boosted Intimidate and UMD.

I still have about 150 gp to spend on mess kits, bedrolls, torches, and those kinds of mundane items.

For healing I have spontaneous casting and 20 spell slots. I have all cure spells and also lesser restoration. For other things it is usually better to handle them with consumable items anyway.

Shakaro

Well as always nobody made it easy for me. After going over the characters again and again I chose Niobe Aptos as our parties new divine caster.

Congratulations to Niobe, and sincere sympathy to the other applicants, drop me a PM of you wish to stay in reserve. This is the third callup we've had out of five characters. So openings can and do happen constantly.

Ah, too bad. Have fun guys!

If you want to revisit Shakaro I'd be happy to reapply later. But I won't be watching this thread so send me a PM in that case.
