With a nod to his companions, Bob slogs forward and makes a bee line towards the stairs leading up.
'This be the mcguffin! We's gunna see what foxy been upta!'

Vina makes a gesture to show Lakadee how to 'tuuuuurn' the door handle.
Gennnntly...
Then she nods.

Lakadee nods. Demolish trick override!
Lakadee Full Attack, double damage vs. objects
Slam: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 for dmg: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (7, 2) + 4 = 13
Slam: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19 for dmg: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (1, 5) + 4 = 10
| The World's Most Interesting GM |
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28 damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22 damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Like a wooden battering ram Lakadee smashes through the door disturbing a shelf full of glass ink jars. The shelves violently disgorge their contents upon Lakadee and Vina pelting them with heavy lead crystal glassware and splashing them with all the colors of the rainbow. After a while the clattering of wood panels and the tinkling of broken glass stop.
Lakadee takes 2 hp of damage from falling ink jars, Vina takes 1 hp damage from the same. Due to their rather colorful, florid and ultimately eye-catching new coatings they take a -10 on stealth checks until they get clean... not that it matters just now.

This large chamber is crammed with desks and lecterns designed for copying scrolls and manuscripts. Along the north wall, a tall, broad shelf sags with sheaves of parchment, while near the exit to the south, a stack of ceramic ink jugs stands near wall-mounted racks of quills. Two bays of windows on the west wall offer an impressive view of the Lodge’s greatest landmark, Skyreach Tower, while the eastern windows overlook the library’s main stacks.
Its 20-foot-high coffered ceiling bears an elaborate mural with stylized representations of ten gnome priests of Desna.
Outside the sky is still dark, with dawn still hours away. Like the rest of the building the room is light with everburning torches.

| Dean Kreighton Shaine |
Shaine takes a quick drag from a small flask possibly in an attempt to steady himself.
"You know that door was probably an antique, hundreds of years old." He says flatly.
"Well?"
Dawn Verda
|
"Yeah, well you can rebuild a new door, you have all that magic doodads. Foremother reminds us that nothing is eternal."
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
"Hey, is that the alligator we read about?" She points to the northwest, behind some of the desks. "We've almost got this figured out!"
| Dean Kreighton Shaine |
Map Updated.
"What? Oh yes, all wizards have a crocodile. Although most of them are--well, err um, S-T-U-F-F-E-D," Shaine spells out, "and H-U-N-G from the C-E-I-L-I-N-G."
The Master of Scrolls winks.
"This one ate a timepiece of mine that I am hoping to retrieve. So what is it that you think you've figured out, precisely?"
| Dean Kreighton Shaine |
"You probably don't visit many people, wizards or not, in their laboratories. What part of 'stuffed and hung from the ceiling' did you not understand? ...Oh no. Now look what you've done. You've made me upset him. It's going to be okay Snackums. It's late and you're cranky. I'm getting a bit cranky too." the dean adds meaningfully. "What time is it anyway?"
Elianna Morgethai

Another super busy weekend, sorry! GM would it be okay if Elianna had asked someone to tap her with the cure light wounds wand she carries before we got up to here?
Elianna steps in carefully around the fallen items and looks around.

"Not to question you, master, but the last clue we found suggested a crocodile would point us in the direction of a person who might be responsible for all of the damage you want us to stop. Also, I can't help but notice that the animal wasn't with you when you briefed us not long ago..." she trails off, hoping for Shaine to help her and the team understand a bit more.

"Well of course woman. It would be daft to let a crocodile wander about the archive for anyone to run into it. I mean let's be sensible here. It's not like I'm some raw recruit taking my 'dangerous pet' tiger or weird, idiot, monstrous companion into the tavern with me. I mean really who does that?" The dean pauses and looks between the party-members for some (probably) positive reaction. "I mean your wooden friend over there has a pet lemur, but I mean that's not the same as some horse-sized, wall-climbing gecko, right? Right?" He sounds almost desperate now. As if all rationality in the world might hinge on the correct answer, and that the wrong answer might bring the whole universe crashing down in a heap of incomprehensible nonsense.
"Anyhow, you said you found a clue? Let's have a look. I have a few ideas about this whole sorry situation myself. Give me your report, and let's see what you've found."
Vina Sitha
|
"Pet lemur???" says Vina angrily, all stuttering gone from her speech. "I'm a student of Master Shaine and he would never speak of his agents like this. Come clean now, whoever you are!"
Vina proceeds to cast detect magic!

Yes, Vina tapped Elianna earlier, as per my post near the beginning of the scenario i.e. she'll carry everyone's wand of CLW and tap between fights.

Dawn reaches into her bag of popcorn and munches on it. Ooh, this should get juicy. Do wizards... not have crocodiles? And Vina's way too big to be a lemur. Man, these book guys never get some fresh air.
"I mean, you could bring a pet tiger into a tavern. Everyone would just panic and flee. Then you'd have all the ale to yourself!" She giggles. "Now, if you visited a bunch of druids and tried to crash their party they would pet the tiger silly and give you all the wine you could ask for. And then some."
Razka Croyle
|
"I KNEW he wasn't down there!" Razka exclaims, jumping to a conclusion that justifies his existing belief.
"We've been chasing you all night, I'm going to enjoy this!"
Razka throws a bolt of magical energy at the crocodile, seeing it as the biggest threat. I mean...6 legs!

Vina maintains her detect magic pointed towards the crocodile and the fake Shaine. Round 2 - "Number of different magical auras and the power of the most potent aura."
Elianna Morgethai

Thank you Vina. Sorry I didn't see it. I'm having a hard time keeping track of anything in this game. I'll mark off two charges since she'd need more than what the gm rolled.
Elianna will move into the room to make herself ready to aid in defense of her team, drawing her bladed scarf from around her waist as she does. She casts chill touch on it, and as a swift action enchants it with her arcane pool.
| Dean Kreighton Shaine |
Razka's magic missile strikes the crocodile's thick hide with an audible thud.
Shaine turns to Razka and says: "Now, now, none of that young man!"
Into the admonition Shaine weaves magic.

Bob McCalister

A bit confused by the whole situation, Bob tries to figure it out...slowly. "So...erm, what happen to da Virml guy ya sent up here to copy down them scrolls he ruined?"
Slowly turning towards the croc, he adds "Iffen this is ya pet, gonna suggest you train him a wee bit betta..."

There is a -4 penalty for Edwin back being in the way.
Bob's shot parts Edwin's hair the way he likes it and strikes true. The crocodile slumps. It seems to flatten to the ground and then break apart into a thousand little squares of albino crocodile paper and spiral upward in a slow motion dust devil, disappearing before they reach the high domed ceiling.

In response to Elianna advancing Shaine cast his spell, and then moves back 20 ft, which because his back is to a wall means up the wall 20 ft. He traverses the space as easily as an elf-sized spider might. I've moved Elianna closer to Shaine on the map. I've also moved Razka back into the room since he had to be there to target the crocodile. Currently he is prone and cannot take any useful actions.
"It seems to me that I remember delegating that task to you all downstairs. And then you come up here and antagonize crocodile and then shoot him.
