I think the website outages were more of a drain on the updates. I'm still liking the posting frequency, frankly, though I agree sandbox adventures are a little bit more challenging in a pbf format.
For me, it helps to remind myself not every post has to be a 10 minute well-crafted essay. Even a few lines of text can sometimes move things along.
Daidalos Icarum |
I think we might be better off with a "disagree to stop" method of deciding what to do- so, one person says the plan, and if one person agrees with them and nobody wants to do otherwise after, say, a day, then that's the plan going forward.
Alternatively, for something like dungeon keeping, we could (as might well happen in-character) assign someone to upkeep, and they organize the defenses, etc.
GM- I'm hoping for my next level to be Diabolist (in no small part thanks to our lack of a rogue), but I need a scroll of lesser planar binding to do so. Once we do level up, could I maybe 'delay' the level up until I get the chance to buy/find a scroll, so I can get the Imp and we can pick locks once again? In the meantime, I'd just stay as a 5th level wizard.

Daidalos's idea for planning I think would work

@ Daed: Absolutely fine holding off on the level up if you like. There will be an extended period in-game for rest and recuperation, followed by meeting a new (somewhat powerful) NPC in a settlement where you should be able to procure such a scroll. In other words, from a mechanics perspective, you won't need the level-up immediately, and from a role-play perspective, there will be an opportunity to get the resource you need.
GM Snowheart |
FYI, we're going on a small trip for a long weekend and my access will likely be limited to just my phone. So, my updates will likely be (mercifully?) brief, but I will aim to post at least once a day. :-)
Daidalos Icarum |
Re: dungeon defenses- I can do it if nobody wants to. It'll probably be fun, plus it's in-character pretty likely that Daidalos would enjoy bossing around minions and planning out defenses.
GM Snowheart |
Maps/handouts are updated. Consolidated/reorganized some of the other pages, added an image of Balentyne burning, and removed the maps of Balentyne to free up some space/bandwidth.
GM Snowheart |
Affyria, sorry for my rapid posting. I hope I didn't rob you (or anyone else) of some "screentime"; I just wanted to move things along while I had downtime (and she wasn't going to share much information then anyway.)
GM Snowheart |
For now, everyone should be level 5. You'll hit level 6 "soon", though. I think Daed was just waiting to level up because he has a pre-req he wants to hit first.
GM Snowheart |
Hey. Thanks for asking.
I nearly had a TPK just now in another game because I forgot to level folks up.
Daidalos Icarum |
Oh hey, I wonder what that must be like. Can't imagine a last-minute level-up making a seemingly hopeless situation manageable? Never had that happen before. ;P
But yeah, to qualify for Diabolist, Daidalos "Must have conjured a devil using lesser planar ally or lesser planar binding (or a similar spell) and successfully coaxed the fiend into performing a task lasting longer than 1 day."
Once we arrive wherever we're going, it's just a (fairly pricey) scroll, a DC 11 Caster Level check (AKA, I roll a 6 or better), and me either sucking up my pride and summoning a Lemure (+0 will save) or chancing that an imp (+4 will save) will fail a DC 17 save and I can convince it that it wants to serve me for a week or so.
Then, I'm golden.
Speaking of scrolls, anyone have any requests?

Well at least it's not a very difficult task. ;P

So, I have been trying to see how the Risen feat works after Raven's death. It seems to say that he will rise as a fledgling vampire -i.e. a vampire without all of the powers the template grants- after three days in the ground.
Given the elf's slow progression so far -it took him years to finally die from the unknown vampire's bite- the three days could stretch to more, say a couple of weeks, if it suits the game. Or it could just be three days.
But I am kinda curious about the "in the ground" part. If I am interpreting it correctly, it actually means he needs to be buried for that duration? In which case, he could simply remain dead for the entirety of the trip with the barge transforming slowly but surely -also takes care of the daylight thingy as there is only one cabin- and then get buried once they reach their destination and remain so for three days? And then rise as a 6th level elven vampire rogue/monk?
Thoughts?
Affyria Strex |
Burying someone on a barge seems problematic though. Maybe we can bury him in Farholde, under the assumption that we'll probably spend at least a little time there?
Affyria isn't great with knowledge skills (+5 in religion) so she won't know a whole lot about the whole undead vampire curse thing. Daidalos is probably a better IC font of knowledge, and he might know about needing to bury you.
GM Snowheart |
Sorry ... I feel like I've been apologizing a lot, but I've had to put some fires out at work and wasn't able to post
Please, no worries. In a way, im glad it’s work (and not a lack of interest), so I take that a a good sign. I’ve certainly been pulled a lot at work, too.
Daidalos Icarum |
I mean, I totally get it. Heck, I've been posting less often, and this is one of my favorite games. Life happens.
Daidalos Icarum |
Reading back through Gameplay to update the loot spreadsheet, and I can confirm that yes, going back through the battle with the magister and commander is just as hilarious on reread as it was the first time.
I have a brawler as one of my characters, and yet Daidalos, of all possibilities, has used more combat maneuvers, and gotten the most out of them, than all my other characters combined. And, of course, let's not forget the most important +/-1 in the history of the game. I have to fight back laughter just reading along.
EDIT: Having updated the loot spreadsheet more-or-less fully (just need to figure out the value of our spoils), I noticed a few unidentified objects: a magical cloak in need of ID'ing, and Chalices and Military medals that need to be Appraised. So, first I'm going to appraise the objects, since they don't have any retries, then roll for spellcraft until I get a decently high roll, and see how that works out.
Appraise (chalices): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Appraise (medals): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34

So, depending on appraise results (and how much Diamond Dust we found/how valuable the golden Mitran sun we found with Father Donnigan was), and assuming we're keeping the CHA headband, Dastard Full Plate and basically no other permanent items, we each have on the order of 3,000 gp in spoils to do with as we will.
GM Snowheart |
Looks like the cloak was from the magister. That's a cloak of resistance +1.
Chalices are worth in total 1050 gp
Medals are worth 75 each (900 total)
Affyria Strex |
So that's 3390 total I think? Also, everyone okay if I take the cloak? I think most people already have a +1 resist cloak.
Daidalos Icarum |
I’ve got just over 3,500 gp each, and that is with keeping the cloak, but managing to sell the Havelyn family bible.
GM Snowheart |
Ah. Damn. And I see there were other things the value of which was being asked about. Sorry. Absolutely slammed at work.

Diamond Dust was 250 gp worth
Sun Emblem is worth 120 gpDaidalos Icarum |
Yes, I’m addition to whatever you had left over. That’s your share of the Balenyre loot, on top of any gear you may have gotten.
GM Snowheart |
I've updated the maps page with images for the Baron, heraldry for the House of Barca, and found a map to represent the first floor of the mansion. I'm not necessarily planning on using it, but sometimes helps to visualize things.
GM Snowheart |
Still level 5 but will be 6 soon (at least in game), so doesn’t hurt to have that ready.
I’ll give Morthos and Timo a little longer to post then move everyone inside.
GM Snowheart |
Let me know if I'm going too fast. I felt like things had kind of stagnated so I'm making an effort to keep the updates coming at least once a day, but if it's too fast now for folks, I can slow down.
Daidalos Icarum |
I can't speak for the others, but I like this pace. This week, I just have a ton of big homework projects due that are occupying most of my time. Usually I can keep up no problem.
Timo Zoci |
Its good with me. Daidalos tends to be more of our face man. Work blocked Paizo's website so I need to find my post times a bit more. I know there used to be an android app that posted. Does anyone know what it was?
Daidalos Icarum |
Wayfinder? I know it used to be a thing but I don’t think it’s still being maintained. I haven’t looked into it though.
Affyria Strex |
Yeah ever since the site got revamped the wayfinder app has been sketchy at best. Most of the times it doesn't update properly.

The following is Raevanis after his rising from the grave, so to speak. He should be correct, though I cannot at the moment doublecheck, but do plan to do it later. His equipment takes into account selling his masterwork longsword, longbow and masterwork studded leather and being a set of concealable thieves' tools, but it is one of the things I am going to check later on as he might keep the masterwork longsword for sentimental reasons.

Raven, if you wanted to have the longsword "reforged" as a rapier or something you could wield/carry, I'd let you just swap it out as is.
In completely unrelated news...
New avatars are available. Filters don't seem to be working on them, but you can sort by date and find the newest ones at the "top".

Dang that's a cool avatar. I need to look for some new ones now.

GM Snowheart |
Hey all. Just wanted to touch base. I may not have an update up until Tuesday. Although this is supposed to be a holiday weekend here in the US, I've been working non-stop to get a project done by an end-of-month deadline. Add to that my son has his 3-year check-up tomorrow, and I'm just swamped.
In the meantime, you may want to review the cardinal's wall of text to think about how you want to begin trying to find the Horn. Feel free to discuss amongst yourselves either IC or OOC.
Thanks for the patience. I hope all who celebrated it had a great Thanksgiving.
Daidalos Icarum |
Thanks! Thanksgiving was great.
I think the first thing we should try to do is track down/retrace the steps of Aiden Kael. Maybe if we ask around, someone knows where he was staying or something like that, which might give us some clues as to where we should not search, at least. Or it might be a dead end. But the only other way I can think of we might be able to find the ancient Daemon temple is to search the wilds personally, which sounds tedious at best.
Affyria Strex |
We could also visit a library and search for information on the death cult or the exploits of king Markadian I, surely there has to be some record of him wiping out that cult.
Timo Zoci |
I thought the location was known. I thought the other knot found the spire but then vanished. Am I misunderstanding something? Looking back at the wall of text it appears that the horn is under a great stone structure.
Also looking at the rumors I gathered, it appears there are several stone structures rising from the cayr baer (I'm sure I'm misspelling that one). I don't know how many towers there are but if there aren't many we could search them one by one
