"Observed it might be"!?!?! Wow. Coffee deficient-posting on my part.
Let me revise that to say "If you personally observed it, it might be enough to roll a spellcraft check, or if he was able to give you more specific details about what he means."
Also, everyone... check your PM inboxes.
I sent everyone a PM (except Timo, who I've already chatted with), but I know we're not getting notifications at the top of the screen right now with the new website design. Thanks!
GM Snowheart
Yup to a max of 3, Though now that you mention it I don’t think anyone has used one yet. Clearly need to challenge y’all with tougher opponents. >:-)
Daidalos Icarum
Hey! I used one to try a and trap Sir Balin’s soul!
Granted, I failed, and regained the hero point almost immediately from leveling up, but I did use it ;P
Ordywyt
Hey y'all! Good to be joining with you. Like Javell, I need to do hitpoints.
HD: 1d8 ⇒ 6
HD: 1d8 ⇒ 1, so, 6
Going to dot and delete in gameplay as well.
Considering hero points having a maximum of 3, we better do something with them this level then, lest they go to waste :)

Ordywyt
Decided to upgrade my armor to a +1 rather than masterwork, and buy an elixir of truth. Not that I don't have confidence in being an inquisitor... but you never know.
F. Castor
What's up Pixels and F Castor! I've never seen Pixels but I have seen Castor around for a good long time on these boards. But, you know, not THAT long. Don't want to make any of us sound old or anything. ;P
Old...? Pshhah... Wise certainly, older maybe, but never old of course! ;-P
In other news, Raevanis is finally complete, equipment and all. He does have leftover cash, but he is probably saving for an adamantine longsword or something. Heh...
Affyria Strex
Hello to the new folks, I look forward to playing with you all. :)
GM Snowheart
Dardalos, Timo, Affyria and Asturu: need a decision from y’all on what’s next. If I haven’t heard by noon, I’ll move you back to Aldrencross.
Daidalos Icarum
Sounds good to me; not much else we can do out here other than dispose of the bodies.
Asturu Renaro
Welcome to all of you! I'll have to sit down and read through the gameplay thread later today *and* through all the new backgrounds :D
GM Snowheart
Yup! And (gentle nudge) get you guys posting in the gameplay thread! ;-)
Our new arrivals are just talking to themselves right now. Even Daedalos’s usually loquacious self has fallen quiet. ;-)
Daidalos Icarum
Yeah....
Physics homework has been eating up a lot of my free time recently.
Timo Zoci
Ooh .. Physics. I loved that course. At least physics I, I was not a fan of E&M
GM Snowheart
Trust me, physics will still be there.
A good grade and job may not, but physics? That's forever. Prioritize, man, prioritize!
GM Snowheart
Also, for the 3 players who just joined, if there are things that aren't clear and you'd like some additional background, just let me know. I'm happy to summarize stuff. I know it's a lot of gameplay to read through and I don't expect you to do so.
Javell DeLeon
Yeah....
Physics homework has been eating up a lot of my free time recently.
Physics. I never took physics but man it just sounds like a nightmare.
Trust me, physics will still be there.
A good grade and job may not, but physics? That's forever. Prioritize, man, prioritize!
Timo eyes the newcomers warily. "Who are these fools. I know no one by the name of Terrick and I have no patience for..."
Lol! Good ones. :)
Ordywyt
The temptation to start the conversation with Timo with:
"By lordy, my name be Ordy."
But man, is that out of character.
By the way, Ord-eewit is how I pronounce it in my head. Feel free to to use anything different. It's not like I would know.
Daidalos Icarum
Eh, it's my favorite class at the moment, but some of the homework assignments just take forever. Especially when I didn't see that one was almost due.
Ordy- well, aren't you supposed to be a master infiltrator? Doing something really out of character would be perfectly in character then. ;)
Also, do you guys have character pictures?
Javell DeLeon
Ohhhh, okay. Ord-ee-wit. Sounds good. But don't be surprised if Ordy pops up every now and again. ;)
Yes. I finally found one and had to change Morthos's avatar because of it. I couldn't find one I liked that matched the previous avatar so I just went with another avatar.
It's in his profile at the top of the page. Or very near it anyway.
Affyria Strex
Oh, one other suggestion, since the new additions to our party got wealth by level (I think, correct me if I'm wrong), maybe us original ones can divvy up the gold we've earned so far before starting a new tally?
I haven't been really paying attention to gold we've earned, so Affyria is still broke :P
Javell DeLeon
@Snowheart: Wasn't a deal struck with an army of bugbears? If so, how much more time do we have left before things start rolling?
Basically here's what I've got from my past game(a few years back):
We're suppose to do something at a certain time and I can't really remember the exact details of it. Something about the bugbears(or whatever type creatures they were) were going to strike the town in like a couple of weeks or so and we're suppose to have something done by then that helps take down the town.
Am I close by any stretch?
GM Snowheart
@ Affyria: Divvy up might be a good idea. If y'all find yourselves short, let me know and I'll arrange a true up.
@ Morthos: Yup. You've got another 2.5 weeks for optimum timing. Longer than that, and the bugbear army starts to suffer attrition.
@ Daidalos: I'm a little dense. All this time you've been asking about the gatehouse... I finally looked, realized it wasn't on the slides, and have added it. Apologies.
Daidalos Icarum
GM- no problem. We all have those days.
I'm working on dividing the loot.
Some things we might not want to sell:
+1 heavy steel shield. Anybody have any use for this?
Mwk full plate
Composite shortbows (+2 or +3)
As it stands, we each get 1874.75 gp (after removing stuff like the potions and similar party goods, and selling our claimed gear). If we sell all of the above, the four of us each end up with 2412.87 gp. Your choice, and I don't know all of our current WBL.
Affyria Strex
Affyria uses a heavy steel shield, but I'll give first pick to any of the melee types if they use shields.
GM Snowheart
I’m expecting a busy day at work today but will try to have an update up.
Timo Zoci
Timo already has Masterwork full plate from the 9 trials and he fights two handed so a shield is out. The composite shortbow would be a step up from the bow he currently has, but he is so bad with ranged weapons it probably isn't really worth keeping for him.
Daidalos Icarum
Okay, well, keeping the shield (and swapping it with Affyria's current one) and selling the rest will net us each 2362.87 gp. That should put us all roughly within the ballpark of WBL for level 3, but still a couple thousand below level 4.
Affyria Strex
Alright, I'll claim the shield then, so we can start a new tally to include the new people now.
F. Castor
Also, for the 3 players who just joined, if there are things that aren't clear and you'd like some additional background, just let me know. I'm happy to summarize stuff. I know it's a lot of gameplay to read through and I don't expect you to do so.
Actually, can I take you up on that offer? Maybe a summary of what the overall mission is? Or perhaps a link to the post in which Thorn sent the older group on said mission and I can read from there?
Affyria Strex
It's in the 'To War' spoiler.
GM Snowheart
Absolutely.
Thorn has dispatched you all to weaken the Watchtower of Balentyne and leave it vulnerable to an attack from a horde of bugbears and others who have massed in the north. The Watchtower straddles a large canyon with a drawbridge and a heavily fortified gatehouse on the north side.
The bugbears are waiting for a signal, specifically a flare to be fired when you have weakened the watchtower as much as possible. The leader of the bugbear army said he can hold his army together at full strength for four weeks. After that, it will start to suffer attrition.
The party spent the first week scouting and gathering as much information as possible, and the last few days hunting down one of the captains and his patrol of rangers. That leaves 2.5 weeks to continue infiltrating and weakening the castle's defenses while the bugbear army is still at peak strength.
Some cleverness is in order. Too many "accidents" will likely alert the Watchtower's commander that something is amiss and order heightened security.
You know about an affair between one captain and another captain's wife. You know there are dwarven engineers helping to fortify and upgrade the watchtower and it's a long term project. You know a troupe of actors is expected in town soon to present a play. Servants and townsfolk flow fairly freely in and out of the Watchtower though the entrances are guarded and folks are checked before being let in. There are about 100 soldiers plus the officers, less the seven you've killed.
Javell DeLeon
That may be because we've been using the smaller and bigger text scaling options to denote whispering. Except, of course, the great irony is that even bigger text is smaller than normal-sized text since the website redo.
Yes! This here. Since the letters are bigger now, the [bigger] is now smaller. It's weird. They haven't adjusted the [bigger] yet. Of course, I can't even imagine how much bigger you could get with the words being so big now.
I click on my alias tab and it'll go to it but the window is closed with no alias's showing. I have to refresh several times for it to open. That happens randomly though.
I tried looking for an avatar for a pc and I never could get the pictures to pop up. All those options to select what type of pc avatar you're looking for was smack down the middle of the page. It was totally jacked.
They've got several bugs that need working out for sure.
Javell DeLeon
I guess y'all noticed Pathfinder 2nd edition is coming out. Gonna be interesting.
GM Snowheart
Yeah. I have such mixed feelings, but 10 years... that doesn't feel like a rip off to me, which is one of the things that killed WotC for me. Be interested to see what they do with it. I've bought so much damned stuff for -- I can't call it by an edition -- for Pathfinder, I'm cringing at the thought of investing in a whole new line of books plus Starfinder. But... maybe. I love Paizo and have always liked their products.
Javell DeLeon
Yeah I'm right there with you, Snowheart. TONS of stuff since AD&d 1st edition. Mostly, though, since the 3.0 days. And they do have great stuff which makes it difficult NOT to invest. But man does that mean more books. Sooooo many more books. Makes me tired just thinking about it. :P
Hopefully it's AT MINIMUM equally as good as this current edition.
Daidalos Icarum
It will be interesting, for sure. I'm equally torn- on the one hand, I love PF, and on the other, I'm really interested as to what they'll do now. I also suppose it'll make finding PF books in used book stores (my best friend) that much easier.
Still, I REALLY hope they don't mess it up and streamline it all too much. That said, if they do, I imagine there will be plenty of people out there who feel the same, and want to keep to the old, "it was better in my day, dang nabbit!" so it would still be possible to find other people to play with.
In any case, 10 years isn't half bad. And a lot of the stuff will hopefully be usable in 2.0.
GM Snowheart
Give a holler when you're ready to advance the clock. I've got an event queued but don't want to rush you through introductions and whatnot.
