Daidalos Icarum |

I think(?) we're ready to move on. It seems like we have a general idea of what's next (i.e. having Kiffex trail Eddarly to give us a way to report him to Mott), and that's the most important thing at the moment. If anyone still wants to stay in-scene, though, we can keep going.

Daidalos Icarum |

Timo- if I remember correctly, there were four captains, the Lord Havelyn, Father Donnigan (Mitran cleric), and Tacitus (wizard with an affinity for fire spells)

Daidalos Icarum |

So out if curiosity, where are we all sleeping? There’s eight rooms, and supposedly a bunch of dwarves also staying here?

GM Snowheart |

Lol. True. I don’t think they considered that when making the map. About to watch Black Panther but will give it some thought.

Timo Zoci |

I somehow like the fact that Timo is a heavy sleeper

Asturu Renaro |

Good Lord, the rampant font size mania is making me feel like I'm on acid.

Daidalos Icarum |

Ah, it's not that bad, is it? ;P

GM Snowheart |

Strange. It’s gotten better for me., but not you?
Lol. Whoa. I did this as a joke but it got quite weird, actually. At least on my iPhone. “Gotten better” is supposed to be “bigger” but it wasn’t much bigger, so I made it bold, and it got really small.

Javell DeLeon |

Affyria snorts as she peers at the label on the wine bottle that the innkeep set down in front of her. "I'd rather not deal with that she-devil all too often, if it's all the same to any of you. Even with their knack for contracts, they are a treacherous lot." She looks off to the side for a moment, and adds, "No offense."
Lol!

Daidalos Icarum |

.. please stahp ._.
But I thought we're supposed to be Eeeevillll...
;P
Daidalos Icarum |

I think we're going to write a note to Captain Mott telling him that his wife is cheating on him, then give it to a servant (to deliver immediately to Mott) once Eddarly goes to visit. It seems the most straightforward and lowest-risk plan.
Unless anyone doesn't like it?

Ordywyt |

The only thing I don't like about it is that it gives evidence that someone planned the encounter. But word-of-mouth is too risky, so I think the note is the best option.

Affyria Strex |

We could always use Kiffex's spell-like ability to plant the suggestion in Mott's subconscious. "Do you really know where your wife is right now? Perhaps you should check in..."

F. Castor |

The suggestion option seems like the one that leaves the least physical evidence. We could go with that and still have a note ready in case Mott saves successfully. And do we need a servant or could we simply use the iron circlet and have one of us deliver it themselves in disguise? Some skill in Bluff would be required in that case.

Daidalos Icarum |

Ohhh... I hadn't even thought about suggestion. Yeah, I guess that could work, but it runs the risk of him saving and realizing he's been attacked with mental magic. We could give it a try, though, with the note as backup.
So is that the idea? Keeping an eye out for when Eddarly goes to visit, then have Kiffex suggest he go to his wife (with a note backup if it goes sideways)?

Affyria Strex |

Even if he makes his save, he'll never be able to spot Kiffex, he has a +31 to stealth when invisible.

Daidalos Icarum |

Wouldn’t that be +51 if he’s immobile?
I’m just more concerned with him going on his guard and suspecting an attack. So far, secrecy is our greatest ally. If we do go the route with the note, Kiffex can always make it disappear once the Captain is gone.

Daidalos Icarum |

No kidding. Way to go, Affyria!
Now I'm itching for when I finally get my own little devil. Three levels to go, I can do this.

Javell DeLeon |

Now I'm itching for when I finally get my own little devil. Three levels to go, I can do this.
Lol!
I gotta say, THAT'S weird. Affyria has a familiar and she's a cleric. You're a wizard and you have to wait until 6th level to get one?
First off, I didn't even know clerics could have familiars AND I thought wizards got familiars at 1st level!
Well, I'll admit, I'm tripped out on this one. :P
What is the Pathfinder world coming to with all this kind of crazy upsidedownness? :P

Daidalos Icarum |

To be fair, I'm not actually getting a familiar.
I'm getting an animal companion.
Confused yet?
(My archetype trades away arcane bond, and the nerfed version of the diabolist does give a familiar, but I get to use the classic one, so no familiar for me!)

Asturu Renaro |

Back in 3.5 you could grab an elemental domain and enslave/control an elemental as a cleric. Ha, if you had multiple elemental domains you could even have more of 'em. Theoretically. Not that it was OP or terribly useful, but still.
Also, Kiffex has one amazing stealth modifier. I'm envious.

Affyria Strex |

Well he has a +11 stealth, but invisibility adds +20 on top of that, or +40 if he remains immobile, like Daidalos said.
The familiar I got is part of my fiendish vessel archetype from the ARG, I believe.
But yeah, an imp familiar is pretty damn handy, especially at these low levels. Normally you can only get them at lvl 7 with the improved familiar feat.

GM Snowheart |

Sounds like we've got a plan for Mott and Eddarly. Do you want to do anything while Kiffex is working his magic on that, or wait to see what happens?

Daidalos Icarum |

If Asturu is up for it, I wouldn't mind taking a peek inside the dwarf's room for into on Balentyre.

Asturu Renaro |

I'm down. Perhaps the dice roller will love me this time when it is time to stealth up and disable stuff.

Javell DeLeon |

To be fair, I'm not actually getting a familiar.

Confused yet?

HA! An animal companion?! Man o man this just keeps getting weirder. I've NEVER heard of a wizard with an animal companion. Man that is different. Pretty cool though.

Daidalos Icarum |

HA. I love it when they roll badly in saves.

Javell DeLeon |

Per the "90 seconds": For all you folks who know nothing about this fight, man I heard all kinds of stories from friends who "saw" the fight.
"I went to go get my popcorn and by the time I came back and sat down, it was over! I missed the whole fight!" was the most popular saying.
And folks were mad because it was pay-per-view and they didn't even get to see it. HA! Yeah I thought that was pretty funny. Still do. :)
Personally I was never into boxing and never saw the fight at the time(didn't have satellite) but man I love watching these old fights. Not sure why. Tyson was an absolute beast among men. He was only like 19 or 20. Would've easily dominated heavyweight boxing for YEARS to come but made some really poor choices in life and only had about a 3 or 4 year run and that was it. Kind of like Tiger Woods, only, there's no going back to boxing once you get to old.
Obviously it was the "popcorn" bit by Diadolos that reminded me of this. :)

Daidalos Icarum |

The character/player divide is strong with this campaign. You almost have to feel bad for the captains.
In other words, good job GM. You're really selling it.
Per the fight.... yeah, I wasn't even alive back then ? (sorry if that makes you all feel old ;)) So this is the first I've heard of it. Still amusing.

Asturu Renaro |

Damn, that escalated quickly. Well, the quick outcome of the duel might've frozen Daidalos and Asturu in their tracks as I doubt they got much further than the scouting part of their infiltration mission in this little time?
If not, I'm fine with 'moving' on to their sidequest of getting to ze Dwarf's chambers.

Daidalos Icarum |

So, are we planning on storming the castle tonight? Personally, I think we might be best served by waiting until tomorrow night- that way, Daidalos can use a few spells to cover our tracks in the dwarf's room. With only one captain left, our time pressure is slightly relived (we don't need to worry about Eddarly leaving), and I wouldn't mind having a day to scribe a scroll of Protection from Energy.

Javell DeLeon |

Sounds good to me.
Question though: Now when you say "storm the castle" what does that actually entail? Me - being a fighter type person and loving massive battles - thinks: "Kill kill kill! Everybody dies! Raaaaaaah!" But I'm gonna go for broke here and say that's not what we're gonna do. ;P
So that's why I ask. :)

Daidalos Icarum |

The reference I was going for was "Have fun storming the castle!" but in reality, it's much more likely to be a stealth mission, kind of like how we did Branderscar. Possibly with infiltration, possibly by using the secret passage.

Javell DeLeon |

HA! That is one of my favorite movies! And I'm always impressed when "you young whippersnappers" know of this movie. :)
I was at Six Flags a few years back and I have this shirt that's completely black except for the "name tag"(which is actually part of the shirt) that's in it's typical name tag spot. The name tag says: "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die".
Well, I was in line on one of the rides and this teenager in front of us goes, "Oh I love that movie!" The other teen didn't recognize it but she did. And then she got onto her friend, "How can you NOT know that movie?!" It was pretty funny.
Blows me away when the younger generation recognize such. Especially a movie from the 80's that did so terrible at the box office but is now a cult classic.
I typically get a comment or two when I wear that shirt out. :)
And cool, I figured it was stealth related but I figured I better ask just for clarification purposes. Thanks!

Daidalos Icarum |

It's such a great movie. So many fantastic scenes.
GM, l don't suppose we're leveling up any time soon, are we? Trying to topple the fortress at lv.3 just seems a little suicidal.
;)
*slides Snowheart 20 gp*

GM Snowheart |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

"Oooooh, shinies!" <pockets gold, checks AP progression>
With seven of you, it's less suicidal than one might think but... yeah, go ahead.
*DING* Everyone is now 4th level

Daidalos Icarum |

Ah, true. A double-sized party would make it less dangerous. *tries and fails to remember that we do, indeed, have new people*
Still, no complaints here!
I may or may not have recently gotten bored and pre-made leveled up stat blocks for most all of my PBP characters, triggering my question.

New extracts known: Bull’s Strength
Studied Combat (Ex) With a keen eye and calculating mind, an investigator can assess the mettle of his opponent to take advantage of gaps in talent and training. At 4th level, an investigator can use a move action to study a single enemy that he can see. Upon doing so, he adds 1/2 his investigator level as an insight bonus on melee attack rolls and as a bonus on damage rolls against the creature. This effect lasts for a number of rounds equal to his Intelligence modifier (minimum 1) or until he deals damage with a studied strike, whichever comes first. The bonus on damage rolls is precision damage, and is not multiplied on a critical hit. An investigator can only have one target of studied combat at a time, and once a creature has become the target of an investigator’s studied combat, he cannot become the target of the same investigator’s studied combat again for 24 hours unless the investigator expends one use of inspiration when taking the move action to use this ability.
Studied Strike (Ex) At 4th level, an investigator can choose to make a studied strike against the target of his studied combat as a free action, upon successfully hitting his studied target with a melee attack, to deal additional damage. The damage is 1d6 at 4th level, and increases by 1d6 for every 2 levels thereafter (to a maximum of 9d6 at 20th level). The damage of studied strike is precision damage and is not multiplied on a critical hit; creatures that are immune to sneak attacks are also immune to studied strike. If the investigator’s attack used a weapon that deals nonlethal damage (like a sap, whip, or an unarmed strike), he may choose to have the additional damage from studied strike be nonlethal damage instead of lethal damage. If the investigator chose to make an attack with a lethal weapon instead deal nonlethal damage (with the usual –4 penalty), the studied strike damage may also deal nonlethal damage. The investigator must be able to see the target well enough to pick out a vital spot and must be able to reach such a spot. An investigator cannot use studied strike against a creature with concealment.
Swift Alchemy (Ex) At 4th level, an investigator can create alchemical items with astounding speed. It takes an investigator half the normal amount of time to create alchemical items. He can also apply poison to a weapon as a move action instead of a standard action.
