Technical Question: When a paladin detects evil, is the process visible to others? Do his eyes glow blue or turn white? Or does he just concentrate? I'm not familiar with these details...

What I probably should have done was stated that the paladin stared at the bard and the gunslinger for a round each and then sent a private message to Scott stating that I was using my detect evil ability.

I guess that the question from Scott is more along the lines of "Does Halvor detect evil on every person he ever comes into contact with as a matter of course?" And if so, he should do the same for Helga as well. The point being that I've given you no reason whatsoever to suspect that I'm anything but a friendly nobleman. There are lots of reasons for him to do so. He may dislike Chelaxians. He may have heard of the Henderthane family. He may think that dark hair is a mark of devils. What's his motivation? If Raziel spit on his shoes or cast a spell on him, you and he would probably be at least mildly curious likewise.

And if you are going to detect evil on Raziel and don't want me as a player to know it, then yes, I would recommend that you private message the gm that you're doing so. I'm not trying to be combative here. If you detect evil on Raziel and Raziel as a character has no way of perceiving it, then I as a player will continue to play him as if he didn't know. If, as I suspect, a paladin detecting evil requires Halvor to stare at Raziel in concentration for approximately 3 seconds, then Raziel will most probably react in some way. The characters may be at odds, but I don't mean to insult you as a player in any way, George.

My apologies for causing a potential issue. I was not trying to cause problems. You are fine Nick, I did not take it as an insult at all. This is a learning experience for me. I did not think my action through or how to properly communicate it. I appreciate the constructive comments.

Thank you both for understanding. I also just wish to make this as fair as possible for both parties. Had Nick done it I would have asked him the same questions.

So George, is Halvor still going to detect evil on Raz and Jim? Also is he going to detect on Helga?

My apologies for being away without notifying you gentleman. I ran into a medical situation where I had to have a stress test done and the results are questionable, as to whether or not I have a true abnormal EKG or if it was an artifact due to heavy breathing on my part. The one definite thing the Cardiologist did tell me is that I have what is known as exercise induced asthma.

Before all of this happened I was trying to figure out the best possible way to communicate what my characters were thinking and going to do since I had a complete mis-step in my first postings.

Sorry for not communicating what was going on as well as being a way. My promise is to better communicate.
