Hearing the children play, Professor Rokannon gives a double take and just stares at the children as they sing. He shakes his head and catches up with the others.
"That's the most appalling thing I've ever heard." He muttered aloud.

"I couldn't make out a word of it," Davor admits to Professor Rokannon.

Sorry, I screwed up the tombstone thing by assuming the Perception check was merely to notice that particular grave marker and figuring the spoiler was fair game once Zander indicated which stone was of interest to us.

"It was, it was like..."
He thought carefully, and began translating.
"'Put the body on the bed.'
'Take a knife and lop her head.'
'Watch the blood come out the pipe.'
'Feeds the stirge, so nice and ripe...'
"

He stops, shaking his head in appalled disgust.
"I mean, who sings a song like that? Who would teach such... to little children?"

Human (Varisian) Female

Not to worry Davor, my skills as a GM are far from well honed, if you guys can put up with me & still enjoy yourselves, the least I can do is keep going.

GM's Rolls:
Davor Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Professor Rokannon Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Tamarie Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Vivian Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Zander Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Davor Sense Motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

Vivian Sense Motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Zander Sense Motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Everyone but Zander:
You notice Lereia, who seemed about to say something when you all arrived, becomes withdrawn at Professor Rokannon's words, particularly his description of the song & his expression of distaste for the subject.

Initially concerned by the professor's words, Kendra's countenance takes on an expression of bemusement. "Don't you remember your own childhood rhymes, Professor? They do tend to the...
gruesome."

Davor shifts uneasily at the girl's inquiry about her pet raven and looks around, not wanting to be the one to deliver the bad news.

Doubt she'll take solace in knowing her raven's ghost is still around. he thinks to himself.

"Miss Lorrimor's right: Childrens' rhymes are a bit morbid in Ustalav, I'm afraid, Professor," Davor says quietly to Professor Rokannon.
"Although that part about lopping heads seems a bit of a coincidence after you mentioned about your old classmate talking about 'The Lopper' being a prisoner at Harrowstone," Davor mentions even more quietly, nearly a whisper.

Once properly prepared, you head back out toward the Memorial & the attendant fountain. Arriving, you notice a number of features which, for obvious reasons, were less immediately important the last time you were here.
Between the memorial & the stream is a smallish 'courtyard' of pale stone & gravel with a rather ornate fountain about midway between the Memorial itself & the stream, about 25' from the water.
The fountain itself is in two parts, a lower cruciform basin with four pools surrounding a central pillar. The 4-foot high pillar supports an upper basin 8 feet across and ringed by four stone gargoyles, which sit at each of the ordinal directions (NE, SE, SW and NW) and support the basin’s fluted lip, where water spills between the gargoyles into the lower basins toward a central drain and thence into the nearby river. Water burbles a few feet in the air from the upper bowl, from which clean water can be drawn for drinking while the lower basins can be used for bathing or washing. The fountain is in disrepair, with several of the gargoyles having suffered large chips and broken stonework, though the basins are intact.

Perception DC 15, 13 if you have ranks in Knowledge (engineering):
Something is blocking the drain beneath the grate of the lower basin and the grate itself has been recently disturbed.

Perception DC 18:
Also read the first spoiler if you have not already.
You notice a number of torn raven feathers falling into the fountain, you don't notice where they might have fallen from...

Professor Rokannon begins with investigating the enchanted arrows that were never identified in the first place. After that, the 'Planchette' and the rest of the things not identified on site.

lvl ? Paranoiac borderline Bi-Polar Game Master

Thanks to Professor Lorriomor's library, you manage to determine the properties of all the items found, even the more esoteric ones. Of course, it is well after your companions return this afternoon before you finish your determinations.

Professor Rokannon:
I have updated the Campaign Page to include the current 'loot' of the party. This includes what each item is. That said...
Haunt Siphon: These glass vials are held within stylized cold-iron casings etched with strange runes, necromantic designs, or other eldritch markings. Within the vial roils a small wisp of white vapor, churning as if caught in a miniature vortex of air.
To capture a haunt’s energies within a haunt siphon, you need only twist the metal casing to open the vial in the same round that the haunt manifests (a standard action)—this can be before or after the haunt has acted. You must be within the haunt’s area of influence to use a haunt siphon. When you activate a haunt siphon, it deals 3d6 points of positive energy damage to a single haunt.
If it deals enough damage to the haunt to reduce the haunt’s hit points to 0, the mist inside the haunt siphon glows green—if it does not reduce the haunt to 0 hit points, the haunt siphon is still expended and becomes non-magical. It may take multiple haunt siphons to destroy powerful haunts. A haunt that is neutralized by a haunt siphon takes a –5 penalty on its caster level check to manifest again after its reset time passes.
A haunt siphon that neutralizes a haunt can no longer be used to harm haunts, but it can be used as a grenade-like splash weapon that deals 1d6 points of negative energy damage with a direct hit. Every creature within 5 feet of the point where the haunt siphon hits takes 1 point of negative energy damage from the splash.
Brass Spirit Planchette: A spirit planchette is typically found in a wooden case along with a thin wooden board printed with numerous letters and numbers. Nonmagical versions of these divination tools can be purchased in curiosity shops (typically costing 25 gp); while these items can be used as alternative components for augury spells, only magical spirit planchettes allow users to communicate with the other side. Three types of spirit planchettes exist—brass, cold iron, and silver. Each in turn allows an increasingly potent form of divination effect to be utilized. A spirit planchette requires a board to move upon, but this “board” can be made up of letters scribed upon any smooth surface—it need not be a prepared board for a spirit planchette to work.
To use a spirit planchette, you must rest your fingers lightly upon the planchette’s surface and then concentrate on the planchette (as if maintaining a spell with a duration of concentration) for 2d6 rounds while the planchette attunes itself to the ambient spirits of the area. After this time, the planchette begins to slowly slide in random patterns across the board—at this point, questions may be asked of the spirits by any of the individuals involved in the séance. The consequences of each question asked of the spirits depends upon what type of planchette is used for the divination. The spirits reply in a language understood by the character who asked the question, but resent such contact and give only brief answers to the questions. All questions are answered with “yes,” “no,” or “maybe,” or by spelling out a single word from the letters arranged on the board. The spirits answer each question either in the same round the question is asked (in the case of a yes, no, or maybe answer) or at a rate of one letter per round (in the case of a single word being spelled out). A spirit planchette may be used once per day—the maximum number of questions you can ask with it depends on the type of planchette being used.
Communication with spirits can be a dangerous task, for many spirits are jealous or hateful of the living. Every time a spirit planchette is used, the user must succeed on a Will save to avoid being temporarily possessed and harmed by the angry spirits. In some areas where the spirits are particularly violent or hateful, this Will save takes a –2 penalty. The DC of this save depends on the type of spirit planchette being used. Anyone who fails the Will save becomes confused for a number of rounds (depending on the type of planchette being used), and no answer is received. The spirits in the area are not omniscient—the GM should decide whether or not the spirits would actually know the answer to the question asked, and if they do not, the answer granted is automatically “maybe.”

It's a DC 10 Strength Check to level up the grate...
Considering I can think of no reason why you couldn't 'take ten' on this, I'm ruling that you do so.

Beneath the grate, you find a mold-slicked brown sack, tied with a cord.

inside the sack:
You find a muck of bird feathers, bones & deliquescing flesh. You also find a fine gold ring with a sigil on it.
Knowledge (local, or nobility) DC 13

You know what check I'm talking about:
The sigil is that of a minor merchant lord known as Antrellus Ghalmont. Now that you think about it, nothing has been heard of him, or his wife, for several years.

You're right, Davor. When you're a girl, you soon learn that if you can stick it in, you can pull it out.

Vivian grins wickedly, green eyes sparkling, then takes a more serious face, and put on the long sleeved shirt and the old gloves

More seriously, as a follower of Pharasma trained in helping to the delivrance of babies, it won't be the first time I put my hands in a dark and dirty hole. Unfortunatly, it won't be the first time either I pull out some dead corpse. Sometimes, if you can't save the baby, you do your best to save the mother at least. Lets just hope this rotten bird didn't polllute the water with diseases... We shall tell the priesthood. I don't know if you can detect diseases, Davor? It would be best anyway if the priests bless this water, or something like that.

She retrieves the sack without much difficulty, opens it cautiously- and not too wide- and shows out the gold ring

I guess this raven wasn't part of the nobility, but i'm pretty sure the local priest will give us the answer in a flash. Unless someone recognize it? By the way, have any of you managed to find out why I asked for some pins?

why not? Here's what I'd like you to watch carefully, Tam": look for any prints around the memorial, if you can still find some. Look for a place to hide, or where someone could have hide the night they wrote this thing with blood. Look for everything tied to the prison on the memorial, get a close look on the statue, takes some notes if necessary... and everything you could think of. I'm sure your keen senses will be invaluable. But beware.... next time you won't escape a girl's shopping spree so easily.

Technically, you are all at the Memorial, you are less than 50' away from it right now, the fountain/courtyard serves as a kind of 'public area'. It appears as though it might be a kind of 'picnic spot' when the weather turns warmer. Remember, this is essentially late February, well North of the tropics so it is still quite cold. Don't worry too much about it, I am going to assume you are dressed appropriately, but keep it in mind.

Turning to examine the memorial statue, the first thing you notice is that, for all his other faults, Sheriff Caellar didn't lie when he said he would see to it's proper care. From here, you would hardly know that it was spattered in blood & gore yesterday.
