The Lost Voice |
Hello all.
I desire to run a game. It was pointed out on another thread that those of us that have been in a few games should run some to return the favor. The ratio is not important, though 2:1 or 3:1 was suggested, and I decided to adopt the idea.
Now, that said, what I am looking for is that those that are interested work together with another person that is interested to come up with a good backstory for the two of you. I will only be taking pair submissions, and for the initial accepting I will only be accepting one pair.
For the pair submissions, the setting is pretty malleable. I'm adaptable, and have the time to make at least a post a day, and manage maybe one or two more, depending on the urgency.
There is some game information below, but please, post your interest, and find a partner. If you intend to converse at length, please PM each other. Players of all shades of experience are welcome. If you are paired, please mention it so that others do not spend more time looking than you need. I look forward to seeing what comes, so please, show me your fluff!
...My, that declaration sounds a bit silly, doesn't it?
• The setting will be Golarion, and all Pathfinder material is acceptable. However, if you build an undefeatable team, or unbeatable creation, the fun ends, and I will end the game with a hand wave and an epilogue.
• Where in Golarion is dependent on the pair, as is the goal.
• I want to help write a story and create characters that are memorable, not provide an example for your number-crunching.

Interesting; while I realize you're not too keen on number-crunching, I find myself fascinated by finding builds that work well when paired, as opposed to the usual aim of finding ones that work when deployed singly. And of course the RP challenge of a pair is interesting.
Brendan, pair up?
Off the top of my head- you play as a cavalier/other mounted warrior, I play as your Synthesist quadruped mount. If that's too 'undefeatable' for the GM< of course other options to be found. Story-wise; I've been reading up on the darklands and found them quite interesting. Having two friends be accidentally trapped down there and trying to get out seems fun.

This sounds interesting, given at least one condition I would like to see:
I've been wanting to play a pair of characters involved in a romantic relationship going adventuring together for a long time now. I think their relationship could add a very interesting dimension to a game like this. I would like to play opposite genders and I could play either side, though I would prefer the male side if I get to chose. So, would anyone like to pair up with me given this?
Additionally I'm wondering about the following:
@The Lost Voice: What do you think of Gestalt? With a pair of characters it'll be much easier to fill out the various roles needed in a party with gestalt? I know you haven't really specified anything about the rules for character creation, but would that be an option?

The creation rules will be announced to the pair that gets picked based on the story, but I will say don't count on Gestalt.

I rather like this idea. Any ideas for where we would be from? I am fairly familiar with Taldor, Andoran, what little there is on Lastwall, and bit from the Shackles. Taldor and Lastwall have minimal information about them but a wealth of potentially fascinating encounters, be it combat or social.
I do prefer melee to casting for my class, with the exception being an alchemist or a cleric. I have fallen in love with Alchemist, role-play aspects and mechanically.
oyzar |
Where we are from largely depends on the story we want to make. Let's brainstorm through PM (or skype/hangout). I'm also fairly familiar with Andoran as well as several other places scattered over Golarion.
You playing an alchemist sounds like a good idea to me, it's quite a versatile class. With so few people I believe we both need to be able to handle a multitude of roles. I generally prefer to play a character with some casting, though usually not as the sole focus.

Early levels is what I was thinking, depending on the backstory. It's a flaw of mine that I've noticed the higher a party gets, the harder it is for me to conceive of a threat that could rouse the adventurers to something if they aren't following a hook.
Conversely, in the earlier levels, almost everything looks like a threat, and you get to see more of the motivation of the characters before they can solve most things that would threaten a hamlet or village with a wave of a hand, or an afternoon's fight.
In this case, since I'll be working with two people, Leadership is entirely possible, but starting at the level that it can be acquired hand-waves a lot of the character development.
-Of course, that's just my experience, and the circles I've played in.

This sounds very, very intriguing. I've been dying to play something home-brewed in Golarion, and a duo sounds great. Alas, it seems I am the odd man out at the moment. I'd probably want to play a martial class of some sort. Ranger, slayer, swashbuckler, or uc rogue come to mind. Mesmerist and Kineticist are also very interesting. The type of a game I'd be interested in is something based in Kaer Maga (Duskwardens?) or a game that starts in the surface and ventures into the Darklands (basically a better version of Second Darkness).
The real question is who shall join me on this great adventure? Send me a PM if you're interested, I'll be sure to check my in-box often.

I will also say, for any of the aspiring GMs that come across this post, and look through it: "Feel free to approach any of the submissions at any time, for a game of your choosing." Especially if you dig one of the ideas that gets presented and I don't end up choosing it.
Please, please, feel free to approach the players to run with you. I'm all for it.

Lost Voice, I was wondering if Death's Adorable Apprentice might submit as part of two different pairs.
The reason why is that DAA has played Ronk, the Abbott to Twitchy's Costello, and we were thinking of doing a comedy goblin musical duo as our submission, but we don't want to leave Oyzar out in the cold.
Ronk and I previously played together in We Be Goblins: The Musical. Okay, that wasn't its real name, but that's what it became. We did full out musical numbers. Sometimes the bad guys joined in the chorus. Together... we were EPIC.
We're currently playing in WBG II game that I think very likely to die due to GM apathy. We'd love the chance to continue singing and stabbing our epic goblin story. Maybe we could do the tale of our gobliny honeymoon with you?
Twitchy Boom Boom |
Actually, can we make it level 3, Ronk? Less math if I don't have to level Twitchy down...
We should probably also sum up the backstory for Lost Voice a bit, linking to key songs and musical numbers, and including our joint interest in sartorial display (aka awesome goblin hats.)
Twitchy is very bright for a goblin, she actually thinks things through, which usually ends very badly for her and her plans. Ronk is the world's cutest feral gnasher barbarian. He doesn't think. He just runs in and wrecks all of Twitchy's carefully laid plans. Together we sing a lot of parodied Disney.
Our background is the module We Be Goblins module, except with lots of added musical numbers. We got the treasure, killed the evil witch, fell in love and got married.
We're ridiculous and awesome rolled up in one very odd musical package.

I would prefer that each person have only one submission, though if I'm following the thread correctly, Brendan is looking for a partner, since Arkwright withdrew. Try contacting them before that. I'm not specifically against it, but I'd rather not leave someone out if it can be helped.

I did have some specific requirements that are not for everyone though, not sure if Brendan would be thrilled about that. I really like what I got so far with Death's Adorable Apprentice, but I understand it if she wants to go continue her story with Twitchy Boom Boom instead. It would mean a lot less work for her as we still have some work to do in developing our story.

Ah! HERE is the link that I referred to in my opening post about a playing:running ratio.
Thanks flykiller!

I realize you are possibly unavailable to comment at the moment, but I was wondering what format you would like our final submissions to be in. Would you prefer one single outline submitted per pair or would you prefer to read each character's background individually and see how well they mesh together? Or something else?

@Oyzar - Nice to run into you, I submitted Issi Flamehair alongside Evan Rivers in GM Guiseppe's Kingmaker game. I'd be happy to talk about an idea - we could even use Issi and Evan ;)
Equally I'm open to trying something with someone else if there's anyone who'd like to join me!
