Almon...take a look at this magic statue. Can you tell us anything about it? It's magical but not evil as far as I can tell
I know Almon says he's busy but hopefully he can chime in here

Sorek takes a step into the room to get a better look, making sure to avoid that large flagstone in the front of the statue
Perception : 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19

When you enter the room, the statue’s mouth animates, and it speaks: “What do you wish? Experience or a reawakening?”
WabbitHuntr
"what does everyone think about this talking statue "
the phrase be careful what you wish for comes to mind... Particularly in an evil dungeon

It's a holiday weekend so I want to wait til tuesday to give others a chance to log back in and give their opinion on what we should do here. Aggy should be back from vacation and let's give Almon til then to chime back in. If Almon is still absent in the beginning of next week well...that's a separate issue. Hope he rejoins us. It really just takes checking the thread a couple times a day and then only 5 minutes to post something
I'm saying this is a potentially big decision because if this "what do you wish for" experience option, is a one time per party one character level up...I would prefer the character leveled up to be our Wizard or our Cleric. It would be nice if Aggy could cast Detect Curse from FGG. on this statue.
I'm not suggesting Almon or Aggy be the guinea pig. I'm thinking this may actually be a real option to level up. But it would be nice to cast detect curse on it first.
brvheart you know I want a fast paced game. But I understand that not everyone can post at that pace, particularly over holiday weekends. Also I want to be fair to everyone and not have this feel like a one man show. Yes I try to speed us through the mundane parts of exploration like 'do we open the right door or the left door', but for important stuff it would be nice if everyone chimed in so...Chime in everyone!
brvheart
Not a problem:) I am doing a 16 hour BBQ today so I am pretty much occupied with that all day today and recovering tomorrow!
brvheart
Thanks, just waiting on the pork butts so we can have pulled pork:)
Aggrammar Deepdelver
Hmmmm... My gut feeling tells me RA is always out to kill you, so I am expecting that asking for 'experience' means a nasty monster will pop up to make short work of us all - if we kill it, we get 'experience' :D
I'm lost on the 'reawakening' though, I gotta admit.
Still, I'm all for having Aggrammar as the guinea pig - we gotta risk some, else there is no point in coming to RA in the first place :P
As for casting Detect Curse, I am planning on always leaving a slot open in all spell levels from here onwards (had been doing it with level 1 spells already), so if brvheart is ok with it, I can memorize it now (think it takes about... 15 minutes?), and cast it.
brvheart
Aggrammar, you are a cleric so your spells are granted to you once per day at the same time per day. If you leave a slot open it can only be used for spontaneous healing. Only wizards memorize spells.
Aggrammar Deepdelver
Huh... I beg to differ, as per the info here - quoting:
Casting Spells
Whether a spell is arcane or divine, and whether a character prepares spells in advance or chooses them on the spot, casting a spell works the same way.
Spell Selection and Preparation: A divine spellcaster selects and prepares spells ahead of time through prayer and meditation at a particular time of day. The time required to prepare spells is the same as it is for a wizard (1 hour), as is the requirement for a relatively peaceful environment. When preparing spells for the day, a cleric can leave some of her spell slots open. Later during that day, she can repeat the preparation process as often as she likes. During these extra sessions of preparation, she can fill these unused spell slots. She cannot, however, abandon a previously prepared spell to replace it with another one or fill a slot that is empty because she has cast a spell in the meantime. Like the first session of the day, this preparation takes at least 15 minutes, and it takes longer if she prepares more than one-quarter of his spells.
Thoughts?

that's why it's so important to have a cleric as the divine caster instead of an Oracle. . The ability for a cleric to have access to their whole spell list with a 15 minute delay is incredible. . Cleric =batman

Gamey afaik. As for the spell, I do not use the source so you will need to detect it RAW via detect magic.
WabbitHuntr
it's by FGG same publisher as RA. So I thought it would be allowed material. That's why I mentioned and provided the link for it.
oh well... If Aggrammar can't cast that spell we'll have to wait for Almon. Hopefully he chimes in tomorrow. . Til then we are in a holding pattern

You can find spells out of the Book of Lost Spells, hence the title and then have a chance to learn them. Either way, it is not cursed so waste the slot.

Nuala investigates a bit closer to check for traps..

Almon...take a look at this magic statue. Can you tell us anything about it? It's magical but not evil as far as I can tell
I know Almon says he's busy but hopefully he can chime in here
Almon looks over the giant head statue and tries to determine what it could be as well as the nature of the magical auras emanating from it.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16 If it is a magical object
brvheart
Not an object. That would be a knowledge arcana, but the DC would be quite high.
Aggrammar Deepdelver
"Let's risk it lads - we already knew we wouldn't die of old age, right?" - the pragmatic dwarf chuckles - "And if ye do, will ye tell yer grandchildren ye didn't speak to tha statue cause ye were afraid it would bite? Naaah!" - the smile seems to be imprinted in his face.
"Let's go fer the experience then - I'm lost as at what tha 'reawakening' is, an' I don't think I needs it" - he adds.
If we've got a consensus, Aggrammar will move forward, spewing 'Go on then! Gimme experience ye messed up statue thing!'
brvheart
rnd: 1d100 ⇒ 89
Aggrammar, you are now a level 5 cleric. Put your XP at the beginning of level 5. Almon, not quite high enough for fulfill another's wish. Not everything in RA will kill you, just most things!
Sorek
not sure I like seeing that 1d100 roll in there.... but so what, it WORKED! Congrats Aggrammar.
Anyone else want to give it a try? Almon?
brvheart
Almon goes in and nothing happens. It does not even speak, but he does still detect magic.

Dang! I wasn't expecting actually gaining a level! :D
"Well, I'll be..." - Aggrammar blurts out - "I'm feeling different lads... Cannot be certain but, it seems ta have worked" - he adds with a huge smile.
As Almon examines the statue further, he continues - "Ye think we can get it to do it again Almon?"
Almon Elros
"Hmm... there appears to be magic left, but something feels different about this. I am not sure that we should be greedy with this magic. It asked if we wanted experience or reawakening. Perhaps it can grant each but only once. All that is left could be what it considers reawakening. If one must sleep before they can awake, then I fear, I must die, before they can be reborn. Or worse, it could awaken something dark and terrible within this dungeon."
Almon seems troubled by his musings of this riddle.
"Perhaps I could try. Maybe my concerns are unwarranted."
Almon walks closer to the statue. He turns to his comrades. Then, looking back at the statue, he says, "Experience."
Almon Elros
"Appears that the statue no longer fulfills that wish. I do not wish to see what happens if the living request to be reawakened. Perhaps should one of us fall, we may test that wish as a last resort."
WabbitHuntr
"Magic like this is fickle. It was worth a try. Let's check the room for any hidden treasures and then move on "

"It probably take time to recharge.. Knowing this place you probably just sucked some poor soul's life experience away to power the dam thing.."
Sorek
Or it senses that someone here has benefited from its Wish and will not activate in his presence. Aggrammar leave the room and let Almon try it again. Let's see if that works
brvheart
"The dam thing must sleep." And thus there goes your second and final wish of the day
Sorek
"And thus there goes your second and final wish of the day"
Well then...let's clear the rest of this level, find somewhere to sleep, and then come back to this room and see if we can get 2 Wishes out of it tomorrow. Sound like like a good plan?
@brvheart Nothing found when searching this room?
Nothing seems to be happening. Let's continue exploring the rest of this level and come back here tomorrow and see if its magic has recharged
Sorek
"nada. Two 9th level spells not enough for ya?"
Two?? I haven't a damn clue what that second one was about!
I just figured if RA is throwing us a bone here we'd be foolish not to take as much as we can, cause it's probably just preparing us for something unfairly difficult later in this level..But maybe I'm overthinking things.
Ok Aggrammar..Doesn't look like this statue has anything more to say to us TODAY lol Let's see what else we can find in the other rooms
Sorek
lets go back into the hallway and continue west.
perception rolls for the first door we run into:
perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
Sorek
west down the main hallway we go hi ho, hi ho, hihohihohiho
brvheart
The corridor broadens into an open chamber here, with a very high ceiling (60 ft.). The northern wall is lined with five statues of gargoyles in
niches.
WabbitHuntr
Perception : 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25
Perception : 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31
Detect evil then magic scanning all the gargoyle statues trying to determine if they are just statues or creatures about to attack us.
