I'm not a fan of 3p website stuff, so let me do some homework to see what is in the prd here at Paizo.
And now I am really going to have to close this down, wow I don't even know how many ideas are being thrown around at this point.
I'll make a list of potential players and their characters and post that. If you are serious about joining, and understand the strange nature of this game, and the strange nature of the DM, stick around and keep me up to speed about your ideas.
Thanks

DoubleGold |

The only reason why I don't use paizo is because I have a hard time locating some things.
If you can show me where the paizo races are, a link would be nice.
I'm able to located this thread, but I have the online campaigns section bookmarked.
Also, I've had strange DMs before, I appreciated strangeness.

Smith Johnson |

So I am working on where my character came from, and if I can, I would like to be a local.
Im thinking something like my house is being fumigated to get rid of rats and I need to stay at the inn for the next few weeks (hence why I am not, and probably cannot go home and am staying at the inn when things happened, Option A) and kind of get dragged into things unwillingly.
If I cant be local, then I will be traveling through (on holidays perhaps?) and just staying at the inn temporarily.

Generic Dungeon Master |

Here is what I am seeing so far (in order of when they expressed interest)
Compass Rose – Completed Character: “Rydwyn Illustra” Female, Elven (Drasbian), Ranger
Redshirt#3302 – Interested
Cyna Singer – Character Concept: Catfolk, Bard
Helio – Completed Character: “Diarmal Illustra” Male, Elven (Drasbian), Cleric
Lycrosis – Character Concept, Halfling (Eshian/Basconde), Witch
Theorythmus – Interested
Killautumn – Completed Character (?): “Felicia Fayweather” Female, Gnome, Druid
Riyah – Interested
Sapadian – Completed Character: Ribat, Male, Grippli, Fighter
Gobo Horde – Completed Character (?): *Smith Johnson*, Male, Human, *Rogue*
DoubleGold – Character Concept: Gunslinger
And here is my take on these submissions
Compass Rose – Character Accepted (You will be the second cousin of Helio’s Character, you’ve met before, and your knowledge of each other is up to you to establish), please think about the option you prefer to select for joining the game, and please make a post in the Discussion thread introducing yourself to the other Players
Redshirt#3302 – I am impressed by your play in LGOC! Looks like you don’t have a solid character concept yet, but I would love to have you join this game, and if you agree, we can add a character for you at a later time
Cyna Singer – that is a good concept and the party could use a rogue. Are you still interested?
Helio – Character Accepted (You will be the second cousin of Compass Rose’s Character, you’ve met before, and your knowledge of each other is up to you to establish). You’ve selected Option A, please make a post in the Discussion Thread introducing yourself to the other Players
Lycrosis – that is a good character concept. Are you still interested?
Theorythmus – you had some good questions. Are you still interested?
Killautumn – I like this character and I am ready to accept her. Are you still interested?
Riyah – maybe I scared you off, are you still interested?
Saradian – I’m not that excited about this character, but that’s not a no. Your net will be useless against anything larger than a medium sized creature, be ready for that! Also, Lore Warden might be a waste in any of my campaigns (as, sadly, one of my favorite players learned in one of my other games when he selected this class and I did not know anything about it, turned out it didn’t work out for him the way he had hoped). I’ll accept the character, but it might be a rocky start for both of us, okay?
Gobo Horde – great character concept, but understand it makes some “assumptions” about the setting, so we might stumble through that. You can be a local. I am going to send you a PM, if you don't mind, and work out details of your situation and I will try to keep it short and simple.
Double Gold – I am sorry to do this, but I am going to have to say no to adding another Gunslinger. I’m not a fan of the class, and here’s a tricky thing;
So
Two characters are in for sure, and ready to start, while there are a couple more that are ready to go, but need a little more work either on my part, yours, or both.
It would be very helpful to me, and I will appreciate it immensely, if you are a player who expressed interest but you have decided this game is not for you and want to withdraw, if you could post here telling me that you changed your mind. That way I won’t bother you with a PM.

sarpadian |
I understand that the net is going to be situational. This sounds like it's going to be a fairly laid-back game where people won't be overly concerned about my character not being hyper-optimized,so it seemed like a good chance to try this experiment. Honestly, I'm not too tied to Lore Warden; it was just the quickest way to get the net feats with a little bit of upside. As I stated in my first post, I already planned to multiclass, starting at level 4. If things don't seem to be going well, I don't mind multiclassing early. In that vein, do druids work normally in your world? Also, what do I need to do next?

Generic Dungeon Master |

Well, sarpadian, how "civilized" can we make Ribat? Can we say that his people are well advanced, part of the regular tradinging and interating of the rest of setting's races? I'd like to have him be a character travelling from Southern Eshia (that's to the south east of where this game is taking place), and for some comedic, not overdone I promise, effect, I'd like him to be confused for a Bullywug, a race of creatures in the bogs here that are not as civilized, and sometimes problematic for the locals. He could be getting of the boat that is rowing up to Connie's Bright now. How does that sound?

Compass Rose |

Hey Sarpadian. :) As a newbie I have a lot to learn about PBP and party variance, as my small groups of friends never really provided such a wealth of differing and exciting ideas all coming together. I was trying not to say anything (sincere apologies) but for you what's an experiment is an awful lot like the character I already made for the game, down to the feats and gear. I don't mean to knock on him or anything, I'm sure you've been excited to play him for awhile, but I spent a long time working really hard on my version and making her lore-friendly (assuredly, way more strict than she needed to be, or even should have been!) I don't fault a frog man for excelling in swamp terrain, but I based an entire ranger off that concept and she's still not as good at moving through or surviving that environment as your non-ranger is. She'll never be, and it's taken so much wind out of my sails that I'm kinda not sure if I should stick around, you know? We're both two-weapon net adept featers in wooden armor.
I can try it since you and GDM are both cool with it, I certainly don't want to rock that rowboat we're both supposed to be coming in on. But this is more than a statistics thing for me: right now I don't feel unique from a story / rp perspective. I'm really sorry but I felt the need to bring it up before play actually started, particuarlly since Diarmal should be entitled to replace his family trait if I bow out.

Generic Dungeon Master |

You know, on the other hand, just thinking out loud here, it could be a unique role playing opportunity for both of you, as you meet and see that as different as you both are, you are in fact a lot alike, and you begin to wonder just how small the world really is. Getting to know each other, how you come from places hundreds of miles apart, but saw the merits of the same tactics, could be a jumping off place for many conversations (particularly if Rydwyn “keeps” mistaking him for a Bullywug, and is nervous about him being an uncivilized barbarian). Just a thought.
However, please don't take this as begging. There is no pressure. I hope it works out in a way that both players find a game they love.

![]() |

Cyna Singer – that is a good concept and the party could use a rogue. Are you still interested?
Does a bard qualify?
The Cyna Singer alias is just a PBP character that's been active for a year and as such has more posts than my normal alias. But you can call me whatever you'd like. :)

Generic Dungeon Master |

Sorry
Its so hard to tell who is who around here (said the alias of Terquem).
And I goofed that entry, Yes! I meant Bard in the first place, cause our first Bard, Captain Edward, bowed out gracefully (he will be getting on the boat and going back to the Tirtian Rose, at the request of the first mate).

sarpadian |
@ Compass Rose: I'm a PBP newbie too, and I guess I just learned that I should look at the other characters before I get excited and throw my hat in the ring. I appreciate you letting me know how you feel; I can't help fix a problem that I don't know exists. I understand where you're coming from, and I'm willing to try to meet you in the middle. Playing as a grippli who is a two-weapon net fighter is set in stone. However, if you want me to trade out swamp stride for toxic skin (and GDM allows it), I'll do that. I'm not sure what you meant by "lore-friendly," and how that relates to the problem, but if you want me to go straight fighter instead of lore warden, I'm OK with that. Wooden armor is the easiest part to fix: I'll go with studded leather. If GDM rules that studded leather counts as metal armor, I don't mind multiclassing into cleric or inquisitor (instead of druid). I hope this helps. If you still feel like one of us should leave, though, it should be me. You were here first, after all :).
@GDM: I'm fine with the civilized Grippli vs. barbaric Bullywug idea. Originally, the 8 Charisma was supposed to represent him not being sure how to act in civilized society; I guess now it represents him being somewhat touchy about the comparisons he gets. :)

Compass Rose |

I really appreciate your response, Sarpadian. I would like to meet you in the middle too. I know that I already finalized my stats, but if it's all right with GDM, I'd like to propose the following changes to my character as well.
1) I'll get rid of the net and future plans for it entirely. Just because she's a thrower doesn't mean she needs to throw that. I'll stick with spears. I'll change out those aspects of her character sheet, and replace her net feat with a swamp one.
2) When I reach level 2, I will probably skip two-weapon fighting in favor of the two-handed ranger option, or ranged if any of that stuff works with spears (I don't believe so).
3) I appreciate your talk of the wood armor. My thought was mine was primitive, perhaps made of the same stock of the bog, and while normally weak to fire I imagine dunking myself into the murk would give it a temporary resistance. Mostly, I like how there's no swim penalty due to it being buoyant.
4) Apologies on lore-friendly, I didn't mean your class. I meant I'd used a race that was native to his campaign setting. But as DM he fully allowed ideas from outside that, and I have no right to second guess him or you.
~Megan

Generic Dungeon Master |

I'll do some homework, but my instinct is telling me that "ranged" ranger feat progression can be applied to Thrown Weapons. Now if they are helpful in this regard is another question, but if you both work out something that you can both agree upon, and the game is still going to be something you think you'll have fun with, I promise to work what I can to adjust rules to fit your character idealizations.
I don't think I like Toxic Skin, but let me see if I can find something better suited to this campaign. Can I do that?
Thanks for keeping me in the loop.

Generic Dungeon Master |

sarpadian - maybe you'll like this suggestion
We trade out Swamp Stride for "Jumper,” but to make it so that you are getting something specific to this adventure, I add this to the Jumper Racial Trait
" - Also, when this character is prone, but not otherwise prohibited from using a move action to stand up from prone due to some other effect, standing up from prone does not provoke Attacks of Opportunity, and the character can take a single five foot step after successfully standing up from a prone condition.”
If you read the game thread, then you would know, as a player, not as a character, that there will be monsters that “trip” characters, a lot!

sarpadian |
GDM, I like the revised Jumper trait. So, to be clear, I'm switching Swamp Stride out for the revised Jumper trait and taking studded leather armor instead of wooden armor (which costs an extra 5 gp, so I'll make that change too). How do I get everything into my profile? I see spaces for my ability scores, but does everything else go in the box labelled "About Ribat," or am I overlooking a tab or something?

DoubleGold |

If this looks good, I will make a full alias with background.

Rydwen Illsutra |

(Unfortunately nothing in the two-handed fighting skin sounds appropriate for a piercing weapon, so ranged looks like a decent place to end up GDM. Even though it's called "Archery" only one or two require the bow, and I can skip the feat options that allow for multiple throws in a round. It leaves my combat growth on rails but they're rails I'm fine with. Those are just the freebie ranger feats anyway, I can always get melee ones through my normal level ups.)
Sar you can click on Rydwen's picture to the left, or any of the fine folks in-game, to see the various ways we've each cobbled together the About box. It's not the most elegant, but it gets the job done.

Generic Dungeon Master |

sarpadian - yes, in the "About" box you can play around with various styles of formatting and fill it up with as much information as you think I need to know.
DoubleGold - looks great so far, have you tried creating an Alias yet? With your choice of an unusual race, for the setting as I am imagining it, I have this idea that I want to suggest to you. Can we gate your character into the setting through a "spatial anomaly" so that he or she suddenly appears on a world other than their home world with no clue as to what is going on or why, and then I can spin that into the distortion of the planes idea of this adventure?

Generic Dungeon Master |

I'd like to keep the background simple, you are from another world where magic works very much like it does here on Hamth, but there, armor does not interfere with magic the way it does here, and you'll discover that soon. Your Armor, by the way, should be just a little more advanced than this setting would be able to provide.
So, if we were to say that this setting is comparable to 17th century Europe, your armor could be more like late 19th century, even taking on a semi-"Gaslamp Fantasy" look if you are into that sort of thing (I certainly am!)
Perhaps your character is a volunteer in a research experiment, and something has gone wrong. You can make up as many details of your home world as you are willing to spend time and effort on.

Generic Dungeon Master |

Compass Rose - back when I was a very young man, I had a friend who could throw four knives at once, by holding them between his knuckles. he also juggled and worked the Southern California Ren Fair, so don't overlook multiple thrown weapons in a single round, I'm up to working it out if we need to.

Generic Dungeon Master |

yes, you should be getting off of the boat, which is within sight of a crowd gathering at Two Barrels Tavern
But please visit the Discussion thread, and introduce your character there, before posting in the game thread.
It is Night. It is Dark, but there is lantern hanging on the front of Two Barrels

Felicia Fayweather |

Yeah this is my gnome, and I'd love to hear it! (Sorry been busy the last few days!) I set it with a different buy system but this will be what I'll be using. I'll gladly change back story as needed or recreating the alias under another name to make it within you have set out. But yeah, just an impulsive, really curious gnome druid who talks a LOT.
EDIT: Yeah I went ahead and updated the stats for your game, so it's all in congruence with your requirements (Sans gold, which I had less of. So the remainder she will pocket!).
EDIT EDIT: Yes! Very Interested! Bah! It wasn't bolded! To the seven hells with your thick letters!

Generic Dungeon Master |

Felicia - would you mind if I sent you a PM with a short explanation of how I would work you into this game?
Jazz Krazz - I am hoping it is a fun, and good role playing experience. I'll try to do what I can, but you know a lot can be done to improve how the role play goes on in the game thread if players are willing to talk to each other out of character in the discussion thread about things they might want to say or do, just so each player has some kind of warning and doesn't get blindsided by an excellent role play post that leaves them unsure of what is going on. Am I making any sense? Anyway. Would you please post in the discussion thread, when you have a moment and introduce yourself. Also, I am going to ask you this, but you can say no if you want to, when your character enters the tavern, and speaks for the first time, your words will be unintelligible. Your character does not, in fact, speak common. This will be awkward at first, but there is an in game fix waiting for it to happen, is that acceptable?
Theorythmus might be creating a Tengu fighter to join the game and I will be introducing that character in a similar way to Jazz Krazz
All - this might seem like it is getting out of hand, and there will be complete understanding on my part if any player feels that this is not what they were looking for in a game. I hope those that stay enjoy it, and can take time to get to know the other players well enough to get into a rhythm everyone enjoys. Thanks!

Generic Dungeon Master |

I don't want to run it into the ground, you know, and test the other player's patience, but you could type nonsense, use the spoiler like you did above so I know what you are saying and as quickly as I can, Paulina will come to your aid, then you can switch to typing your spoken words as normal
Oh and by the way, I never mentioned this, but the formatting I like (and it seems everyone already has a good feel for this) is Bold for spoken words (and you can use quotation marks if you are a purist!) Itallics for in character thoughts, and OOC fonts for direct questions out of character to the DM or other Players

![]() |

Fair enough, I'd rather limit my character to knowing the languages he knows, people communicate with me through sign language while speaking in common, then at level 2 I take linguistics as a skill to learn common, because enough sign language has been done where I pick up on the common words.
Or if someone knows my language they don't have to use sign language and I won't have to look at them directly, not sure if any player knows any of my languages though.
I hope you are okay with that? I was thinking of a really good way to roleplay.
Reading your gameplay thread, I'm already seeing some excellent roleplay involved.

Generic Dungeon Master |

Well, I am trying to bring into this setting some non standard races and since the whole game started out with this idea in my head of alternate universes collapsing in on themselves, I will gate in your character ( and a few others).
So, no one on this world (with the exception of Paulina) will understand you no matter how you try to communicate (Unless you speak in a language that is [b]Draconic or a language associated with an outer or inner plane and another Player Character speaks that Plannar Language
When you first appear you will be a bit disoriented, but when you try to speak to someone in your normal way of communicating, you will only get stares of confusion, you can then try other languages. It might help to ask, the other players if they speak any plannar languages or Draconic in the Discussion thread and work out the scene before we muddle up the Game thread. By the way have you visited the Discussion thread and introduced your character?
