I present Daviana Soldavaso (zolexa13), of Amaans, Ustalav.

I still need to take her shopping and fill in her fluff, but this should be all the rest of her crunch (in Profile). Already taken too long of a lunch, back to work!

I did take advantage of the 1 moving point. I took it from the 15 and put it on one of the 13s, to make 2 14s instead.

Dot for interest:

But, during the mean-whilst:
roll # 1: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 2) + 6 = 14
roll # 2: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 4) + 6 = 11 * (one point out)
roll # 3: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 6) + 6 = 18
roll # 4: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 4) + 6 = 13
roll # 5: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 4) + 6 = 11
roll # 6: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 4) + 6 = 15 * (one point in)

Decent set of rolls!
Quite good, actually.

I'll do the move a point thing too; make one of the 11's into a 10
and then make the 15 a 16 (14, 10, 18, 13, 11, 16).

I'll try to put together something with that in the next day or two.

Thanks!

Still working on the fluff, but here's the crunch for you:

Volos Popescu
Human Spirit Summoner (Life) 1

Crunch:

Traits:
Chance Savior: Fate smiled on you and Professor Lorrimor one day in the not so distant past. Through a matter of pure chance, you were in a position to save the late scholar’s life and did so. His gratitude was effusive, and he promised that he would never forget you. You are unsure of the nature of the summons in his will, but believe he may have listed you as a possible heir in thanks for saving him from an untimely demise.
The Stranger: Like the lone traveler that walks alongside the caravan for but a brief while, you have a way with strangers. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Diplomacy and Knowledge (local) checks to gather information. Additionally, either Diplomacy or Knowledge (local) becomes a class skill for you.

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 5) + 6 = 16
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 1) + 6 = 8
2d6 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (2, 1) + 6 - 1 = 8
2d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 3) + 6 + 1 = 16
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 6) + 6 = 18
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 6 = 10

18 16 16 10 8 8 is certainly an array I can make an interesting and powerful, yet flawed character with.

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 3) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 5) + 6 = 14

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 6 = 10
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 3) + 6 = 14

Huh. A 15 point buy. I know that's what APs are based on, but with such a roll method, that's overall under average, and a little disappointing. I'll see what I can do, I suppose. I'll be repurposing this alias, I've got far too many as is.

Wow! Let me just say, combining Carrion Crown with Ravenloft-style gothic horror is a fantastic idea. I love it. I hope you'll give me some consideration, since I'm a huge fan of having characters who are haunted, burdened with dark secrets or curses in the gothic style.

So here's my submission, dotting to get my rolls out of the way so I can build my character, who I'm thinking will be a Bard with the Archaeologist archetype. My background will be spoilered in my profile, which will have the dark secret and long-term goal of my character. I would ask that the players don't peek, to add to the fun of the whole thing.

(And right now I'm still writing it; I hope that it'll be up in a few hours.)

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 6 = 17
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 3) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 4) + 6 = 16
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 6 = 10
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 5) + 6 = 16
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 5) + 6 = 16

OK, crunch and fluff completed. Only thing missing is shopping, but I figure that isn't absolutely required at this moment?

2d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 1) + 6 + 1 = 14* one point in
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 5) + 6 = 17

I can make something with that. Something cleric like I'm thinking

Hi GM Wanderer! Chess here with my submission :) Arthorius is a Dhampir Alchemist. Background, concept, sheet, everything is already on the profile. Thanks in advance for considering me!

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 1) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 2) + 6 = 9

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 4) + 6 = 14
Rng does not like me today lol.

Very interested! Looking at making a Gloom Chymist (alchemist archetype from Blood of Shadows.)

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 3) + 6 = 132d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 3) + 6 = 152d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 = 122d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 = 112d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 1) + 6 = 112d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 3) + 6 = 13

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 2) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 4) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 2) + 6 = 9
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 3) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 6) + 6 = 16

Thinking of making a Human Ranger. Dragomir Novikov, Monster Hunter.

Did say it was a long-shot. Oh well, I did have a second concept for him when I made the character, I just have to dig through my files to grab it and change the background a tad.

Roll: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5) + 6 = 12
Roll: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 2) + 6 = 12
Roll: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 3) + 6 = 15
Roll: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 6 = 10
Roll: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 2) + 6 = 12
Roll: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 6) + 6 = 16

Here is Kip84's submission: Dragomir Novikov, Monster Hunter (Ranger: Divine Tracker)

I will begin transferring the character sheet into his profile over the next few days but for now it can be viewed here: Character Sheet

Backstory :
The Novikovs

The Novikov family has long been dedicated to eradicating monsters from Ustalav’s counties. Though not as large or well known as they were 200 years ago they are still known, perhaps feared, by some groups of monsters, particularly the undead and their creators. Almost all the Novikovs take up monster hunting, some even travelling with their family while they raise their children. They generally are taught their professions by an elder member of the family.

Dragomir was born to Rostislav and Sonja. He is their eldest child. He had two siblings, his sister Nadya and his little brother Dimka. Well after the passing of his Wife and youngest son Rostilav re married and now has two more sons Stefan and Zivon to his second wife Danika.

Dragomir’s mother and little brother died in a flash flood. The family was camped on the Moutray River, living on the road as they always had. It had been raining sporadically for weeks while Rostislav had been hunting down a small pack of Hell Hounds that had been plaguing the local farmlands. Sonja was nursing the infant Dimka in the covered wagon, Dragomir and Nadya then 9 and 6 were off playing and foraging for food, when a torrential downpour hit. The Moutray broke its banks, the wagon was swept away. Three days later Rostilav found Dragomir and Nadya sitting soaked to the bone by the river. Dragomir had explained that they had found Sonja’s body there caught between two rocks in the rapids impaled by splintered wood from the wagon. The rapids were too fierce and they had had to watch as their mother was slowly tugged from the rocks and swept away in the current. Of their brother they had seen no sign.

The death of his mother hit Drago hard but life as a Novikov had always been tough and unforgiving. He followed his father’s example, A stiff upper lip and an unwillingness to let anything defeat him, body or mind.

When Dragomir was sixteen his father had decided that it was time his training should begin in earnest. Though Rostilav would have liked to train Dragomir in the way of the arcane, the young man just didn't have the brains for it... So Dragomir was apprenticed to his first cousin twice removed, Katarina a ranger (the daughter of Nickolaus one of Rostislav’s great uncles. Over the next ten years they travelled the length and breadth of Ustalav together routing out monsters wherever they found them. At times they would stop in one of Ustalav’s larger towns or cities to spend a month or two studying. They often stopped in Lepistadt to visit the universities library. Though he only knew Professor Lorrimor in passing Katarina knew him well and had would often consult with him while Drago was studying.

At twenty four Dragomir had almost finished his apprenticeship. He and Katarina were visiting Karcau on rumours that some in the back alleys and waterways had had encounters with the restless dead. They wound up in the underwater labyrinths beneath the city tracking the signs of zombies when they were ambushed. Dragomir was attacked by a pale bloated peasant woman who had some type of wrapped cloth about her torso He dispatched her with a well placed arrow and a smashed vial of holy water, and had half turned to help Katarina when from out of the wrap appeared the animated corpse of a babe. Dragomir was stuck dumb with the image of his infant brother in his minds eye being swept down the river. When he came to his senses Katarina had dispatched the small zombie. Drago knew that it couldn’t have been his brother but he was hit with a wave of empathy for those who’s corpses had been forced into mindless slavery. They tracked down the necromancer who had been animating the dead of Karcou and dealt with him. From that time forward Dragomir dedicated himself to Pharasma and to cleansing Ustalav of undeath.

After the incident, Dragomir returned to Professor Lorrimor, to learn all he could of the undead to improve his already fine combat skills with knowledge of where and how to strike and which weapons worked best against them.

Dragomir’s sister Nadya was trained by Rostislav as a wizard and is off adventuring somewhere in Ustalav it’s been some months since Dragomir or Rostislav have been in touch with her.

Rostislav has settled down somewhat with his second wife Danika in Vauntil. Though he still patrols an area around the town and teaches his two young sons how to be Novikovs. Dragomir visits them as his travels allow.

Thank you for your consideration. :)

I shall be rolling up a character, and I plan to let fate decide some things for me.

Dice:

Roll 1: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 = 11
Roll 2: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 6 = 10
Roll 3: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 6 = 10
Roll 4: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 5) + 6 = 17
Roll 5: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 6) + 6 = 14
Roll 6: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 6) + 6 = 18

Which I will be taking in order.

Now for the hitch, I found some random class/race tables, and assuming that the rolls fall within allowable classes, I will be those. (I will reroll if it clashes straight up with one of the two existing people or is disallowed)

Class and Race

Class: 1d100 ⇒ 87- Sorcerer. Works, what with us having an Oracle too. Spontaneous all the casting! I may alternately go Hybrid and be an Arcanist... they weren't on the list.
Race: 1d100 ⇒ 68- Human or Oread, will probably go Human.

More to follow shortly.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I must say, I am more than a bit shocked. Just over 24 hours and there have been 31 players who have expressed interest in the game, with 10 who have submitted actual characters for consideration.

***ABILITY SCORES*** If your rolls have a total modifier bonus of +5 of less, you may reroll your set. Additionally, in case you missed my previous post, you may move a single point from one ability score to another. Use this wisely.
- @Paranoid OldMan, @Belltrap this includes both of you.

I encourage people to dig in further to their character's motivations and psyche to help explain how they will work, both as a party member and in a Gothic setting. I like the the prevalence of Neutral characters, but if so encourage you to define the range of their personality. Ideas: A good drive with major flaws, an overarching almost obsessive compulsion, etc. Also, you could take the same concepts as script the character as Good but with flaws. I am still looking for heroic motivation (at least from some applicants), so do not think everyone needs to be flat affect or that you will not be selected with a Good alignment. A little material for your viewing pleasure.

Alright. Expanded a bit.

Bio:

Sini was born in the Kingdom of Pitax to a human father, Sebrek, and a halfling mother, Ose. They were common folk and worked as a miner and a teacher, respectively. While both of their professions were honest hard work, Sini had other plans for life. Working the family field was not her cup of tea, and the fact that her human uncle Vraan was a ship captain only boosted her aspirations to leave the life of mediocrity behind. Vraan visited his brother during his shore leaves, and they would discuss, among other things, the exploits of The Errant - Vraan’s coaster ship stationed on Pitax river to protect merchant vessels. While Vraan’s duty was not as adventurous as one would think, Sini still listened to his tales, made up or not, mesmerised for hours at a time. During her uncle’s visits, Sini expressed her desire to sail as a ship captain. Both her parents and Vraan were quite pleased with her decision, and Vraan helped Sini to apply for an officer training program as soon as she met the age requirement.

Captain Vraan would cover some of the expenses involved, and Sini joined the officer training program with the Pitaxian Navy. However - Siri found out that becoming a captain is easier said than done. She knew how to work people, she was not dense either. As a matter of fact she did learn quite fast. There was a different problem - the other applicants. With an exception of very few, all of them had family ties to wealthy merchants and nobles. And they let the plebs feel it whenever they could. On top of everything else, Sini - being a young halfling woman - was ridiculed for her height and strength, or the lack of those qualities, rather. She confessed this to Captain Vraan during one of her visits, but his response did not please her: “Sailors won’t respect you just because you want it. As a matter of fact, nobody will. You need to earn it, Sini!”

Sini did not find an opportunity to prove her worth to her “peers”, however. And while she was knowledgeable and knew how to work a blade, she was still mocked by the young aristocrats in her classes. This treatment lasted for years, and Sini was always on the lookout for an opportunity to prove herself to these people, no matter how much they pushed her away. When she reached the rank of midshipman, the Pitax Navy sent her and others of her rank to listen to a lecture on strategies in naval battles, delivered by none else than Professor Petros Lorrimor from Lepidstadt - one of the more prestigious institutions on the continent of Avistan. Sini was fascinated not only by the lecture, but also by the presenter. A man so knowledgeable and eloquent, that merely being in his presence would surely expand her limits as a student and a person. As soon as the lecture was over, Sini rushed to have a one-on-one discussion with Lorrimor. Unfortunately, Lorrimor had been on a schedule, and the talk was only brief one. After apologising, he suggested that SIni attends one of his classes at Lepidstadt. This invitation did not go unnoticed, and with the help of Captain Vaarn, she managed to convince her tutors to postpone her training to “improve her skill with the blade”, despite she was one of the better swordsmen of her rank.

Several months after Lorrimor’s lecture in Pitax, Sini was sitting in his history class at the University of Lepidstadt for the first time. When she asked the professor that they continue in their private discussion from earlier, she could feel her heart pounding and blood rushing into her already rosy cheeks. “Like a little girl…”, she laughed at her temporary awkwardness later on. She attended history and language classes on top of her training with the rapier. She tried to listen to Lorrimor’s lectures as frequently as possible, but it still wouldn’t be enough. Luckily for Sini, the professor agreed to private lessons in small groups and he invited her to join in. Occasionally, other students could not attend, and she could be alone with him. He was always courteous and sweet to her during their discussions. A nice change of pace compared to the rude buffoons back in the Naval Academy. Months went on, and Sini got her dueling scar from the her sparring at Fifthstones Hill. When the professor noticed, he joked about her finally becoming a woman. Sini, obsessed with her tutor, misinterpreted this and responded by stating that she already is a woman, but never had a man like him. She felt like her heart could break her ribs from the inside during the exchange, but Lorrimor was a family man, and insisted that their relationship remain the same as before. Sini was devastated, but managed to leave the professor’s office with only watery eyes. She skipped several days of classes, mourning her futile advance and reminding herself how dumb it was of her to pursue such a man, when she was just a commoner.

The same week, Sini received a letter from Lorimmor’s office. She hesitated to open it at first, but curiosity got the best of her. Perhaps Petros had reconsidered her offer and wished to meet her in person. She took a deep breath, tore open the envelope and started reading. Not a minute later, she was crying on the floor of her room, with a notice of his death in her hand, the ink on the letter smudged by her tears.

Scarab Sages

Sounds pretty interesting, I may put something together for this.

I don't suppose there's any way we could get the Spirit Master archetype to work with an Unchained Monk? No big deal if not.

As a more general question, does anyone know of a way to get Channel Energy as a monk (via feats perhaps)? Disrupting Fist sounds awesome in a campaign like this, though I might need to make a cleric/warpriest/paladin to make it work.

Anyways, stats!

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 6) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 2) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 = 12

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 5) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 1) + 6 = 12

Spectacularly average!

Fixed. Back to the Lore Warden he was originally imagined to be.

Personality, Motivations, and other Role-Playing notes:

Alana's overarching motivation will be to lift her curse -- to break the contract of her grandfather.

As a youth, my character was likely heading towards being a very Byronic hero -- living a life large and full of promise. Exploring crypts, getting into trouble and getting out of scrapes by luck and a little bit of skill.

After the curse, Alana still has flashes of that old personality. It's still there, but now layered with bouts of melancholy at her situation. In that way, she'll be much closer to a Gothic Hero, burdened with her curse and secret that she dare not reveal.

Personality-wise, the mood swings of the Byronic hero will be present. She'll sometimes forget her burdens, most likely during times of excitement and adventure, but then the weight will crash down on her and she'll have bouts where she is morose and withdrawn. But ultimately, she has enough resilience in her -- as well as her drive to lift her curse -- to pull herself out of the melancholy.

I would say that Professor Lorrimor was going to recommend Alana enroll in the Lepidstadt University where he could keep a close eye on her. I feel that saving her from the contract would be something of a side project for him -- feeling like his solution being stopgap at best.

Alana, however, viewed him with a mixture of resentment and respect. She certainly cannot deny that he saved her, but at what cost? How does one forgive such an act, even though to have done nothing would have been much, much worse.

Her motivation at the start of the game would be to to attach to whatever unfinished project he left at the time of his death. Partly out of the obligation she owes him, but also to gain access to his notes hoping to find out more about her situation that he may have kept from her. The fact that the Professor touched the lives of so many others will be compelling and help keep her as part of the group.

GM PLEASE NOTE: I chose the contract devil because it's a medium-level threat that would trounce a low-level party, and fits everything that I need nicely. However, there's lots of other types of creatures that could be on the other side of the bargain -- demons, djinn, demigods, daemons, dragons... other things that start with "d"... fey, witches and warlocks, and countless others. If there's another creature out there that you think fits your campaign better than a devil, just let me know and I can rework the backstory.

Unfortunately, nothing's really coming to mind with my array. I'm a +1 off from a reroll, unless I were able to bring myself down to +5 total by switching a point around, but that's sketchy and in poor taste. Have fun, all who are selected, and good luck to you all!

Thank you for the heads' up!

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 6 = 17
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 6 = 10

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 6) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 1) + 6 = 8

Will settle on where to move the point around when I whip up a character sheet.

That said, is there anything off-limits or too dark for a backstory? I'm considering having my character's backstory involve an act that's morally repugnant in a moment of weakness and passion, something he has sworn he will never repeat or enable in another, simultaneously harboring terrible guilt and a craving for redemption, even as he tries to escape what he did.

Likewise, I'd like to ask fellow prospective players if there's anything you'd be uncomfortable in seeing in a fellow PC – it's important to me that my character backstory wouldn't make anyone at the metaphorical table uncomfortable or diminish their enjoyment.

I'd be interested, if you're OK with someone who hasn't played much Pathfinder, or recently played much at all.

(please note, first time using the dice)

Abilities: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 4) + 6 = 13
Abilities: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 3) + 6 = 11
Abilities: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 2) + 6 = 12
Abilities: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 3) + 6 = 11
Abilities: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 4) + 6 = 13
Abilities: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 2) + 6 = 12

Second roll since first is less than +5,

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 2) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 3) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 2) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5) + 6 = 12

Seeing some great proposals at the moment, really intrigued to see the fluff behind some of the combinations. I will update the full list this afternoon of all applicants. Also, please do not hesitate to ask any questions.

@KalDragon you are still under +5, go ahead and roll again.

Attempt number 3

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 1) + 6 = 9
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 4) + 6 = 16
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 4) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 3) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 3) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 5) + 6 = 15

This is going to sound strange, but if you're choosing between my character and Daviana Soldavaso, I'd appreciate it if you gave it to her. I know Zolexa 13 irl and she really wants in on this game and I'd rather she get it than me if it comes down to the two of us.

GM:

One other thing: if you've read the backstory, you'll notice I've never mentioned whether Grandfather DeVere is alive or dead. He's obviously not around at his grandchild's 18th birthday. I'm not going to say which, since something like that would be better left for you to decide! (Though I'm thinking that Alana and her parents probably believe he's dead.)

Anyway, I like to seed the future story with as many potential surprises as possible. :)

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 6 = 17
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 6) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 6 = 17
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 3) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 2) + 6 = 14

I have a character from a failed Carrion Crown game I think I will retool. At my own peril, I might go for a mystic theurge build. It seems at least somewhat plausible, with those rolls. :P

Either that, or I will go the evangelist or exalted route.

Liberty's Edge

I think I need to scrap my monk. Getting touches put on an Alchemist (Chiurgeon archetype) at the moment. Can't get a reasonable gothic hero feel out of the monk in my head. :) Would it be OK if I swapped them out one for the other GM?

Withdrawing Jeydanan. Instead, submitting Vaak, Sylph Alchemist.

@ Wayward Wanderer:

I've done the number crunching bits on Hero Lab for my submission.

He will be under the name Úrtnechech, which is an alias I've not yet played in a game with.
I'll have to edit this alias to update him.

I was out and about today tending to insurance and other fun stuff like that.

I'll work on hammering out a plausible back story and subscription for Úrtnechech in the next day or two.

If you could let me know if I made any 'oopsies', that would be super.

Thanks!

Should be all set. Let me know if anything seems weird.

Would you prefer stats/history/story posted here or kept on the character?

ATM, everything is in my profile.

Dragomir's Character sheet has been properly transferred to his alias profile.

I've made a few changes:
Swapped 1 point from Con to Str, (as per your ability generation rules)
Changed Cleave feat for Weapon Focus: Longsword
Changed his armour from Scale Mail to Chainshirt.
Changed his club for a silvered light mace

Added a Drawback (overprotective) and another Trait (Armour Expert).

@ Wayward Wanderer:

Hi!

Xunal here.

I did the 10 minute background thing for Úrtnechech, and got his profile mostly updated.

Just need to do the actual backstory thing tomorrow.
But at least I have a good idea of where to go with that.

Thanks!

Ten Minute Background:
Okay, it took me a lot more than 10 minutes to do this. But here it is:

Step 1: write a minimum of five things about your character’s concept and background, which you think are the most essential parts of your character.
1. Úrtnechech is a former half-orc purpose bred chattel slave from the city Katapesh, who was sold to work the mines in Cheliax. His first master was glad to be rid of him, because of his relentless refusal to kowtow to authority.
2. He was put on board the Chelish slaver, the Painful Delight. The Painful Delight was liberated by Andoran pirates a few days after leaving Katapesh's waters. In the confused fighting of the boarding action, Úrtnechech had his first bloodrage and killed several Chelish crewmen with the manacles he was wearing.
3. He spent the next few months working as a scout for Andoran authorities on he border with Isger. He's capable in a fight, but shines in loose formations.
4. During one such patrol, Úrtnechech saved the late Professor Petros Lorrimor from a band of brigands. The Professor promised to reward Úrtnechech, who almost forgot about the incident until he received a summons to Ustalav for the reading of the Professor's will.
5. He has no idea how he came by his aberrant/arcane blood; as a chattel slave, he has no knowledge of his lineage
6. Úrtnechech kept his manacles from his brief captivity on the Painful Delight, and had them turned into a set of spiked chains.
7. Although his captivity on a Chelish ship was short, it left him with a loathing for all things Cheliax.
8. A lifetime of slavery has left Úrtnechech introverted, often morose, by nature.
9. He is intensely loyal to his friends and those who aid him — and equally intense in avenging friends who are wronged.
10. He doesn't mind a dust-up as a good bit of fun, just like Obelix, the famous mighty Gaulish warrior

Step 2: List two goals I would like Úrtnechech to accomplish in the course of the game.
1. Fulfill any obligations of the Professor's will, as it is the first time he has been so rewarded by anyone
2. Kill as many abusive slave owners as he can get away with

Step 3: List two secrets about Úrtnechech. One Úrtnechech knows. Another Úrtnechech is unaware of.
1. During his rage on the Painful Delight, Úrtnechech killed several crew who tried to surrender before the Andoran crew entered the ship's hold, where this took place
2. One of the surviving Chelish crew, Ixorus, was witness to this, but Úrtnechech thought he died

Step 4: Describe three people tied to Úrtnechech though blood, romance or honour. Two are friendly to your character, and one is hostile. All can do something useful for you, in the right situation. You can include an enemy of yours here as well, so the GM has an instant NPC nemesis to use against you.
1. Friendly — Loena, a halfling Eagle Knight in Andoran; she realized his rages were arcane in nature and helped him control it (a bit). Because of this friendship, Úrtnechech understands the Halfling language.
2. Friendly — Angild, an Ustalav dock worker in Caliphas who Úrtnechech met when he first arrived in Ustalav. They soon became drinking buddies on the docks and cracked a few skulls in the unruly part of town.
3. Hostile — Grelo, a member of Caliphas' city guard whose pride was wounded by Úrtnechech, a lowly half-orc brute, who saved him from being beaten to death by a gang of local toughs
4. Optional Enemy — Ixorus, the Chelish slaver that Úrtnechech thought had died

Step 5: Three of Úrtnechech's memories. For context and flavor.
1. Being flogged several times on the Painful Delight, but refusing to knuckle under despite the pain
2. The indescribable euphoria that came with his first bloodrage, which he had not expected
3. His first real friendship, with Loena, the halfling Eagle Knight in Andoran

Optional Step 6: Design notes for Úrtnechech
• In spite of his upbringing, Úrtnechech received enough kindness from people to keep him from turning to evil
• He is not afraid to use brutality to those who deserve it, though
• He balks at taking orders from people who are not his close friends

How do you feel about taking applications from pbo rookies? I'm yet to play but keen to learn, if you'll gibe me a chance I'll throw my hat in

@Raisse The Spirit Master would require a substantial rebuild for Unchained Monk. A Warpriest (archetype: Sacred Fist) is essentially a monk/cleric, and they do get Channel Energy at 4th level.

@Bimpnottin I am totally cool with you switching your submitted character.

@Ringok so heard. As of right now I have not made any selections, though am planning to do an extended sit down tomorrow to review all current applications (I am off all day and the wife is working).

@Ironclad Nomad All are welcome to apply.

TO ALL APPLICANTS I continue to be impressed by the number and quality of the submitted characters thus far.

First, I want to toss out a reminder that your character will be primarily judged on the quality of the backstory and personality, rather than the crunch. As such, I encourage all of you to focus on that side of your character.

Second, if you have added any content for your character as a post and you have also set up an Alias for the character, please add that additional content into the Alias (it simply makes tracking everything easier). I am not requiring Aliases at this point (as I know some people do not like having a bloat of Aliases.

An Alias Trick for Applications:
That said, you can create an Alias and fill it in completely, then rather than posting from it, post a link to it instead. If never posted from, the name can still be changed later for future applications.

Third, to those who have submitted a concept or simply just rolled stats, time is not up yet. I encourage all to get their proposed characters up.

Finally, I want to include the list of applicants below. I have reorganized the applicants categorically so I can evaluate similar characters side by side, not necessarily because I will select one from each category. In the end, the four that I feel will work best with the existing group, each other, and create a compelling storyline, will be selected.

Wonderful! I'll get to work ASAP!

My submission (still a work-in-progress; need to stat out familiar):
Raggy Mandy, Witch (Tatterdemalion)

@ Wayward Wanderer:

Hi again!

I updated Úrtnechech here with a backstory and everything.

Let me know if any of it needs a tidy.

You sure have your work cut out for you with all the applications you're getting.

I already have lots of unused aliases.
I got carried away long time ago with that.
Oh well, doesn't hurt.

Thanks!

Will have my submission ready today!

Storyteller Shadow submission complete!

Background:
Genevieve Ree was born in 4689 AR in the town of Ravengro. The only child of a family several generations removed from any claim at Aristocracy. The last vestiges of wealth are land holdings that Ree’s father had to work practically by himself as the birth of his first, and only child, Genevieve for some reason left his wife barren.

Life was normal for Genevieve, hard but normal in the dark lands of Ustalav. At least until Genevieve reached puberty. Then the things started happening. Objects moving of their own volition. Strange phantoms appearing and causing damage to the house and lands. Matter converging on visitors to the house!

The Ree’s were at their wits end until they realized that these manifestations would take place whenever Genevieve was near. They thought the worst, their own little girl was the subject of some sort of evil spirit! They turned to the Church of Pharasma for an exorcism which the Clerics deemed “satisfactory”.

Still the events kept taking place. By the time Genevieve was 15, the Ree’s were ready to give her to an orphanage that could better care for her and deal with whatever was afflicting her when it was suggested that the family visit Professor Petros Lorrimor. Wanting to hold on to their only child they agreed.

Genevieve was sent to the Professor at the University of Lepidstadt. He worked with Genevieve for only a week until he understood the nature of her affliction. She was not possessed by a spirit or a demon but the recipient of strange powers of the mind. The circumstances that took place around Genevieve were as a result of her own limited understanding of the world. Though intelligent, Genevieve had a limited understanding of the world and as a result lashed out at those things that gave her cause of concern or fright.

The Professor worked with Genevieve so that she could control her powers and better interact with the world as well as her own fears. By the time her University was at an end, she was given a scholarship to study there once she came of age because she was so gifted. The Ree’s were relieved to have their daughter back but also happy that she would be away for University as they feared what the locals would think once they knew that not demons or spirits but Genevieve herself was responsible for the odd things that took place on their farm.

At the age of 18, Genevieve started at the University studying Science and minoring in the powers that she had developed naturally so that the understanding of her own nature could blossom. Genevieve has a thesis related to the interaction of her own powers as “science” and NOT magic based, which if she is right could be a major finding! Genevieve kept up a correspondence with the Professor for the last several years while at the University. She has not seen him in some time and now that she is about to graduate does plan to visit him soon to thank him for what he did for her.

Grey Karlov:
Grey Karlov
Male Human Alchemist (Gloom Chymist)

Few Inner Sea nations host embassies to Nidal or Nidalese ambassadors, but in Caliphas, capital of Ustalav, romance between one such Nidalese ambassador and a scion of the noble Karlov family of the County of Caliphas blossomed, leading to romance. From their union was born a boy, Grey Karlov.

It is from his mother that Grey first learned the principle that power comes at a price. She explained to him that long ago, Nidal was in grave danger. Though many would tell Grey he was a dark god, evil, even, alone amongst the gods did Zon-Kuthon extend to the Nidalese a chance to survive. He could keep them safe, if they swore their loyalty to him, and so their exchanged their freedom for safety.

Unfortunately, childbirth took a considerable toll on the Nidalese ambassador, leaving her with a frail constitution – though she lived long enough to see her son through many of his formative years, long enough for him to mourn and grieve when eventually she passed.

Having always felt that he did not quite fit in with his Ustalavic peers, he had few bright spots remaining to him following his mother's passing. One was Euphemia, a daughter to his father's sister and a ward of his father. They were close as siblings, perhaps even as close as childhood sweethearts – in their innocence, the line between the two was blurry.

Another was his father's twin brother, an Ustalavic Pathfinder of some repute, the young Grey eagerly exchanging letters with his wandering uncle and listening, wide-eyed at the tales that were woven whenever he visited.

Despite this, however, when Grey's mother's successor to the station of Nidalese ambassador arrived in Caliphas, he was quickly taken under the ambassador's wing, and, discovering his knack for alchemy, he quickly learned everything he could of Nidalese alchemy and glooms, magical fields of darkness from the Shadow Plane that could be momentarily animated with the use of strange compounds. It was under the guidance of this alchemist that Grey even began to experiment on himself, successfully altering his own physiology to see, even in complete darkness.

Grey, however, remained unaware of the growing rivalry harbored by the Nidalese ambassador for an up-and-coming advisor to the Prince, who skillfully stymied the ambassador's influence.

An ill wind was blowing the day the Prince's advisor and Euphemia's engagement was announced. Though at first he tried to bottle up his feelings for his cousin, eventually his mentor was able to coax the truth from him, discovering his pupil would make the perfect pawn.

Though when his mentor first broached the topic of love potions, Grey dismissed the suggestion out of hand, as the wedding grew nearer, Grey became more and more distraught as it became increasingly apparent that the marriage would, in fact, go forward without falling through.

It wasn't, however, until the eve of the wedding that, in a fit of desperation and passion, he gave in to the insidious whispers of his mentor and his own worst impulses.

It was at the last moment, at the very brink of consummating a repugnant act which would have tainted him forever, that he came to his senses, repulsed at the man he was becoming and what he now knew himself to be capable of. Though it broke his heart, he fled into the black night, vowing never to return, and to never again abuse his alchemy to such ends.

It was on the road he discovered Professor Petros Lorrimor, robbed by bandits and beaten half to death. Turning his alchemy to nobler pursuits, Grey stabilized the professor and, bringing him to the nearest inn, nursed the man back to health. For a time thereafter, they traveled together, and even when they parted ways, they continued their correspondence as colleagues.

Upon hearing of the passing of one of his few friends in the world, Grey did not hesitate to begin the trek to Ravengro.

More average than a can of tomato soup... That said I'm thinking of a monk build so it would work...

@GM: are archetypes from Occult Adventures allowed? Sarianna was originally built to be a Ghost Rider cavalier, with a splash of monk thrown in so that she could actually bite people properly.. would this still be on or do I need to come up with something a bit different? I'll update her profile when I know what I'm updating to! :D
