Update on people :
Characters Complete (or nearly so) :
Ceres Telluris (Professional 1/Navy 2) - Lessah - Active duty naval officer, Shuttle pilot, Engineer
Fernán Miguel Gómez (Rogue 2/Merchant 1) - Tangaroa - Freelance Merchant
Lady Annara Utoxier-Lee (Noble 3) - Captain Wombat - Psion Diplomat & Noble
Vathan (Army 2/Merchant 1) - Jubal Breakbottle - Bodyguard & Hunter
Dr. ?????? (Academic 3) - Captain Cosmos - Doctor (of something)
People marking interest :
Grim - Specifics undeclared
Gandal - Specifics undeclared
Grand Moff Vixen - Specifics undeclared
Grimdog73 - Specifics undeclared
How game will start :
I'll start when I have 8 completed characters, or next Saturday, whichever comes first. I usually prefer 4 to 6 players, but I've realized that there's about a 25 - 45 % attrition rate after games start on the boards. So I'd rather start with 8 and lose 2 or 3 and not have to re-recruit a month later. :)
mdt
Ok, Grand Moff Vixen has bowed out officially. So, here's what we'll do. As soon as the currently 5 completed characters are fully complete and alias'd (which I think is mostly just Cosmos), I'll start the game. When the other 3 come in (if they do), they can be brought in relatively easily.
I'll be working up an intro post. Everyone finalize your choices on skills/feats/etc, and make sure your aliases are up and ready.

Since being chronically poor - while perhaps a good RP motivation - isn't super fun, I'll roll one more term.
Navy term: 1d20 ⇒ 6 Shore duty
A bit safer this time: She'll make the survival DC on a 1 :P
Not dying. DC 2+3: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Promotion DC8+2-3: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Decoration 20-3: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Edit: Nice! Hopefully I haven't used up all my good rolls for now ^^
Shore leave. Hmm - a good angle. Since the navy obviously employs more personnel then they need - many spend a lot of time grounded. Much like the astronauts of our time!
I'm going to go with, while Ceres have had some trips in space the last few years most of the time has been spend on terra firma. Since she did good last time the admiral and staff would like to see her train the new cadetts - hopefully imprinting something useful on them. Ceres herself is of course less then pleased. If only she had some influencial friend whom could put in a good word for her ...
Enter Lady Annara and I finally have some sort of tie in : )
Ceres would probably be looking for someone of her statue - and if she is recruiting? All the better !
Edit2: Right! Muster out rolls:
Item: 1d6 ⇒ 5 Additional term
Monies: 1d6 ⇒ 4 03
Dammit! I can never manage to strike the nice +1 edu or int. But what to do with TAS...?
Edit 3 - forgot reenlistment : ) DC 6: 1d20 ⇒ 17

No problem, I can easily add you when you get your character done. If you have access to either Traveller T20 or SciFi 20, you have the rules. If not, it's fairly simple and straight forward. The only tricky bit is your prior history, and I cna roll those for you.
Available classes and house rules are over on the campaign tab. So far we have a Psionic Noble, a Rogue/Merchant, an Army/Professional, a Navy officer, and a Doctor of some type (not sure if they are going medical or scientific).
mdt
The actual traveller T20 books are no longer available. However, the original authors stripped out the Traveller licensed bits (names of races, names of ships, etc) and created a SciFi20 system that has 90% of the T20 system in it. The only thing it really doesn't have is Psionics (which I can do for you if you want via the forum if you want psionics).
That's the link to the player manual, it's fairly cheap in US money (about what I'd pay for a fast food meal... probably slightly cheaper with tax). There's a couple of other books, but you shouldn't need them. Mostly those are making ships, making solar systems, etc.
Gandal
OK, just gimme whatever military/navy/mercenary/fighting class you think will be most needed (human female).
Better if she has mech/comp skills at least average, but really there is a lot to read and i hate reading PDF.
I'm good with everything doesn't involve too much social involvement or leadership.
Doctor Ziirkaa
Alias made for Captain Cosmos. Still working on Skills and Feats, It looks like I am going to have to download Scifi20 tonight. The downport doesn't seem to have skill descriptions for individual skills.
Here is my character sketch:
Doctor Ziirkaa is obsessed with his family's Vilani heritage. He has studied the technology and history of the Solomani empire. His PhD is in the field of Historical innovation. He is one of the planet's foremost experts on the technology that is gradually falling apart, particularly the theoretical underpinnings.
After a promising start to his career, his love of the technology has led to a career that is not very practical, shifting from specialty to specialty based on his research of history and technology.
I am happy to take on the "doctor" role.
Since it looks like no one else has hard core doctoring skills, I am thinking of taking on that as well, I don't want to step on anyone's toes. I am imagining he is not a certified medical doctor but has been involved in cybernetic experiments on animals, and has picked up medical skills, but none of the empathy.
mdt
Cybernetics would be extremely primitive (about what we have today) due to the planetary tech level. They have some plans for stuff still in archives, but the tech base just can't do the molycircs (molecular circuits) required for it.
So, ti sounds like Gandal, wanting a tech position, would do well as an engineer on the station. That would overlap a bit with Ceres, but not much. I'll work up Gandal's character here shortly.

@MDT: I am not actually interested in pursuing cybernetics in the game. Cybertech is one of his technological fancies, and while researching that, he learned enough to "fake it" as a medical doctor. Basically it's an interest that connects my primary interest in advanced old empire technology with medicine.
Understood that it is more advanced than anything we are capable of making on this backwater hick world... That is exactly why it interests me.

Ok, I think that's done other than equipment, which depends on the muster out check (material or cash out). Need to know which Gandal wants.
If Anyone see's any glaring errors, let me know.
Also, Gandal will need to pick :
2 Traits
Favored Class Bonus for 3 levels.
mdt
Now i have t understand what that means :(
Not complicated. It just means your character graduated highschool, got a bachelor's degree in Information Systems, and then enlisted in the Navy four years ago and spent four years in the Navy learning more and more about technical stuff. She didn't get any promotions, so she's still a recruit. Based on your want of not being in charge of anything, I think it fits, she's kept her head down and tried not to stand out, and it worked, she ended up not getting promoted because of it.
The crunch bit should make more sense. :) The feats are in your PDF.

@Gandal - Shoot things eh?
I'll just slip in here and note that the 'Navy' class is the staff of the ships, not the eye-to-eye combatants (those would be the 'Marines'). Navy is a half speed BaB class with plenty of skill points : )
However - shooting things with vehicle and heavy weaponry (field artillery, starship deathrays ect.) does not operate via BaB, but the skill 'Gunnery'.
So 'Navy' might or might not be the right choice, given how you want to shoot things !
*bounces off to gameplay thread*

Lovely. I will take the 16.
Some of the crunch is now updated. Please take a look and critique my Knowledge skills. I took "The Sciences" as a general background of science. Then took some specific sciences that I am really specialized in.
Please let me know if you want me to handle it another way.
Working on Gear now.
mdt
Doh! Sorry Ziirkaa, yours is 12. I got you and Gandal mixed up for a moment. My bad.
Some good news though. Gather Information and Liason got rolled up into Diplomacy skill.
Also, you gain Vehicle/Wheeled, as a free feat. It's a world background feat. Let's you drive any wheeled vehicle.
K/The Sciences isn't really workable, too much to cover. On the bright side for you, your generic EDU check works for any knowledge you don't have ranks in.
If you want to do surgery, you'll eventually have to take that feat.
Doctor Ziirkaa
A TL 8 Linear computer would cost 1875 credits. This is a desktop computer, it's vastly underpowered compared to the the parallel systems that the nobles have (and the remnant synaptic system on the space station makes it look like a graphing calculator).
If you wanted the equivalent of a parallel desktop, you could by a miniframe. You'd need a house to put it in, obviously. A linear miniframe would take up a room, cost 18,750 credits, and be slightly underpowered compared to a parallel system.
To get an idea, imagine the computers of the early 90's. Those are linear. Modern computers are parallel. The planet can produce parallel, but they are not produceable in any numbers, and mostly you need to know someone to get one. They're all one-off systems, custom built for the intended recipient.
Now, if anyone wants a tech level they can't afford, they can make a Soc check (DC 20) to try to find someone willing to broker purchases for them. Doubling the price reduces the DC by 4 (quadrupling it reduces the DC by 6).
Considering my business, I at least need to take a stab at getting a parallel portable computer, and/or some sort of multi-scanner. What do I need to do/roll to buy/requisition one?
Other than that, Equipment is:
16,600 credits
TL 8 Med Kit 1250 Cr
Electronic Tool set 2000 Cr
Mechanical Tool Set 1000 Cr
Short Range Com 100 Cr

Not a problem on the Stamina.
Understand about The Sciences, your solution works for me.. wooo Hoo! 2 more skill points. ;)About the Surgery feat, I took it as my second bonus feat. I thought we met the Pre-reqs if our ranks+class skill bonus met the prereq. If that isn't the case I will swap it out for something else.
mdt
For pre-reqs on feats, yes. If it's something that's 'per 5 ranks' then it's actual ranks (Psionic feats kind of straddle the middle of those, and fall on the 'need 5 ranks' side). I just missed the surgery feat is all.
As to parallel computers...
Computers : The TL 7 computers are readily available.
The TL 9's are available if you have Merchant, Noble, or Academic Careers.

Hey mdt! I'd love to join this Scifi pbp, and you can look at my history to see that I am dedicated and well written.
My issue is that I have never played Traveller before, and know nothing of the setting. I can probably pick up enough to get a character together by Saturday, but do you see this being a problem?
