You actually rolled twice on the two charts already, which is fine. Just fix the modifiers.

Ok Jubal,
30,000 stands (that was off anyway, should have been 50,000 with the modifier). Gun changes to Blade (since it would need to be rolled on the Barbarian chart). One blade up to 100 credits (or 90 credits in cash).

Sorry for the radio silence, busy doing 4th of july things.

No problem, I assumed people would be busy over the weekend. :)

Cool. 100 cr pays for my cutlass. How about my truck? ;D

Can I start with TL9/10 weapons?

I'm putting the last touches on my PC, will probably have an alias up for inspection sometime later in the evening.

Just another bothersome question - is it okay if I inject an attempt at an Master's degree somewhere between now and after the Bachelor's Degree?

Also - even if I rolled on Mustering Out benefits and such, would it be okay if my PC was still on the payroll and working - but on shore leave? I assumed working for the Navy (on a stranded world) is similar to a sailor or oil rig worker on earth - where one works for something like 3 months then have 3 months free and so on.

Look at the potential gains and please decide for me. I don't know enough to have an opinion. You said we could buy one TL9/10 weapon anyway, right?

Missed that the first time. Mongoose changed the vehicle stuff significantly. Here's about what you're looking for.

Chaznaki ATV (TL7):

This all terrain cargo vehicle is rugged and has a long range capability. The unique arrow shape of the hull is pleasing to the eye, yet also helps with navigating off road in rough areas. A single control pod forward allows the driver excellent field of sight while driving, and the larger passenger compartment behind can comfortably seat two passengers. The rear cargo compartment has 50 cubic feet of space. It's half-track design allows it to move with speed on the road, and with good speed off-road. It's performance degrades somewhat when loaded with cargo, however. The designers installed four track drive trains to increase off-road speed and maneuverability, at the cost of higher maintenance and repair. Cost : 7,200cr

You may take as many terms as you like. You just max out EXP at 7000. You continue to age (which can be a problem!). So if you want to go for a Master's degree, that's fine. You don't gain EXP, but you do gain age (and the possibility for something bad to happen). Mustering out doesn't necessarily mean you aren't working, it just represents that you are ending your prior-career mode. It means you're done and ready to start the game. So your mustering out would have to happen after any Master's Degree attempt (as it might affect your muster out rolls).

It is merely two years (or one, if I fail). I'll add it then and hope for the best =)

There is nothing the Master's Degree can actually do with my Muster Out rolls - so I'll keep them if that is okay ^^

Admission, DC 11: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Graduation, DC 11: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

Nope ^^ Nothing then :P

Btw - p281 in Traveller's Handbook contains personal computers : )

DOH!

Thanks for pointing that out. :) The book is a little hard to find things in sometimes. I'd have expected them to be in the equipment section!

Datasheet:
Lt. Ceres Telluris, of Telthani's First System Fleet

Ceres takes enormous pride in her placement in the Navy and as such takes every opportunity to introduce herself with her naval title. Telthani have only one fleet, making the destinction meaningless - but still, it feels so good to say!

Ceres Telluris grew up in the suburbs of Tentatha, in a small appartment house with her parents. They were hard working folks and as a result, the young girl spent significant time with her grandparents (mothers side). They were both astronomers, and Ceres inherited their sense of wonder and amazement about space. However, from her fathers side she also inherited technical knack and blended the two into her very own dream of working as a space engineer - abroad the Space Station with the Navy.

After collage, Ceres went straight for higher education. During her time at the University, she enrolled in the Navy OTC program - something she always dreamt of. Ceres graduated at the top of her class, and was accepted into the honour rolls and now holds an Bachelor's Degree in Space Engineering.

Straigt after university, she entered cadette training with the Navy and served her term as Ensign. During the Solar Storm incident, she volunteered to ferry the demolition experts to the incoming asteroids during the Operation Shield (the Nacy codename for the project, which aimed to deflect the trajectory of the incoming rocks with carefully placed explosives). When Project Shield proved too inefficient (the demolition experts worked slower then anticipated, unused to zero-g) she was part of the task force which instead used the antique shuttle weaponry to blast the asteroids off course. For her participation in these events, she earned a promotion and a citation for Meritourous Conduct Under Fire - in this case, malignant high-velocity rocks.

All participants of the Navys OTC gets a series of basic courses with mostly historical content, aimed to instill a feeling of awe. And to make sure the High Command isn't embaressed should the jumppoint ever open. Topics such as navigation (both stellar and planetary), navy customs and jump procedures are discussed and complimented by grueling tests and simulations.

A navy officer is expected to know both how to lead and obey - true even for the small but proud Telthani System Fleet. The commissioned officers are expected to know how to organize and put the grunts to work, even if such skills are mostly used during drills planet-side.

Ceres major area of expertise is space engineering, but due to the limited number of personel deployed she is expected to have passable knowledge in many subjects. Basic maintenance tasks of various sorts fall under her responsability - from fried electronics to leaking vents and first aid.

When not maintaining the space station, its crew operate it as a glorified weather satelite. The stations scanners are used to monitor both planetary and solar weather, patching the data trough to metrological stations on the surface of Telthani itself. When the opportunity came, Ceres took the chance to broaden her skillset with a basic course in Surveying. Astronomy had fascinated her since she was a child - an alternative carrer choice had she not joined the navy engineers.

Traits: Ship's Crew (Climb), Patient Calm (T\Engineer), Tireless Logic

Even since the artificial gravity seldon works as advertised on most of the space station, there is a lot of climbing to be done. Climb there to fix that, climb that to fix the gravity - then climb back. And for economic and safety reasons, jetpacks are merely for emergency uses during spacewalks.

The Navy engineers are drawn from those with the patience to work the ancient devices without loosing temper or patience. Always dreaming of a position aboard, Ceres took great care to hone herself into such a person. The act of working with complex engineering became like a solemn prayer, giving praise to the wonder of the machinery and her luck for working with it.

A brilliant mind ready to tackle any challange, Ceres is driven and posess the skill and willpower to pull trough in challangeing times.

Drawback: Naive

Ceres combat experiance is limited to weapon drills and live fire practices. Well, there was that one time when a racoon managed to slip onto the base - triggering an intruder alert and searchparty deployment, but that was solved with leftovers from the mess and a tovel. The concept of a pub-brawl is as distant to her as the rest of the Imperium appears to be.

Feats:
Armour Proficiency (Light, Vac Suit), Weapon Proficiency (Marksmen, Laser, Ship's Weapons),
Professional Speciality (T\Engineering), Vessel\Wheeled, Vessel\Ship's Boat
Skill Focus (T\Engineering), Low/Zero-g Adaption, Low/Zero-g Combat, Damage Control

This is what I got so far. Lacking equipment (but I have a decent idea). I tried a new thing now, with the traveller char-gen system and all, and put bits of fluff sandwitched with the crunch. I'll need to do some for the feats then a general description too.

Anything weird so far =)?

Perhaps some formatting too ... : )

Perfect. I'll finalize equipment and fluff by tomorrow latest.

Looks good Lessah.

I do like the character gen for Mechwarrior, Traveller, etc, it helps you build a believable back story, and sometimes it throws you for a tiny loop (like the bottoming out on Masters) that makes the character more interesting. :)

Cool thanks for posting TL stuff GM, Ill do skills and TEch

Looks like I missed a benefits roll for being "O1" in the merchants:

Cash benefits - 1d6 ⇒ 5

Also, we're using paizo traits and drawbacks?

@Tangaroa - Yes, you can use paizo traits & drawbacks, just refluff them to fit the genre.

Here is a profile for Fernán Miguel Gómez.

I have 52,985 credits left. How much for a small jet (probably more then I can afford). How much for a high end computer (at least, one that a merchant/rogue can get a hand on)? How much for specialized equipment to fabricate computer or security card identities?

And a profile ! Yey =)

A TL 8 Linear computer would cost 1875 credits. This is a desktop computer, it's vastly underpowered compared to the the parallel systems that the nobles have (and the remnant synaptic system on the space station makes it look like a graphing calculator).

If you wanted the equivalent of a parallel desktop, you could by a miniframe. You'd need a house to put it in, obviously. A linear miniframe would take up a room, cost 18,750 credits, and be slightly underpowered compared to a parallel system.

To get an idea, imagine the computers of the early 90's. Those are linear. Modern computers are parallel. The planet can produce parallel, but they are not produceable in any numbers, and mostly you need to know someone to get one. They're all one-off systems, custom built for the intended recipient.

Now, if anyone wants a tech level they can't afford, they can make a Soc check (DC 20) to try to find someone willing to broker purchases for them. Doubling the price reduces the DC by 4 (quadrupling it reduces the DC by 6).

For those who lucked out on the mustering out and got a ton of cash, this is an option for spending it. Or you can put it in the bank and hope you find someone in game to be a go-between for you.

As far as computer or security card identities, there's not really a lot of use for those. Most people use mechanical locks. The only places that use electronic security are the government buildings, the space port, the space station, and some of the clan holdings. Most of them use physical human backup on anything sensitive or valuable.

It should be noted that there's a low incidence of violent crime on the planet (something about not trying to rob the guy in a back alley when it's very likely he's going to be packing a heavy pistol, at the very least). Most crime involves smuggling people or property from one Holding to another.

For example, some Holdings adhere to a strict 'no alcohol' or 'no benditru ciggs', while others don't allow gambling, or what have you. Illegal activity is more about smuggling alcohol or benditru cigarettes, or running underground gin joints or gambling halls.

With such a small population, outright theft does happen, but it's usually on a small scale. Hard to palm off something without being found out.

A local manufacture 2 person jet (the equivalent of a jet/turbine powered cesna) runs 20,000 credits new. A new helicopter will run you 82,000 credits. Used prices are generally about half that cost, but you don't know who had it and what they did to it before you bought it.

On computers and tech levels ... ^^

Couldn't find the scene without the subtitle, sorry bout that =)

LOL, not sure what movie that's from, but yeah, that does give a good example. :) Although the one in the wall is an electromechanical as the T20 rules call them. :) Basically, vacuum tube and mechanical control runs. Univac.

Hmm. I picked up a Parallel portable comp - which would be out of my TL by the latest notes.

Natural 20 on Soc, here I come!: 1d20 ⇒ 15

Shoot .P

I guess I'll have to settle for a brick then ^^

On another topic, I was reading up on TL and homeworlds (p31, THB) and noticed that the 'backwater smuck' Edu penalty might go away when one attends university. Is The University cool enough to provide this benefit : )?

Nope, it's still something of a backwater. It was originally a TL 10 university, but it's fallen on hard times, and the faculty is suffering from inbreeding as far as ideas and training go. It's still better than a TL 8 world should have.

Roger :)

The movie is Iron Sky, a finish independent film. Action (less then the youtube clips would make you expect)/Dark Comedy/Satire or something ^^

Teaser

Trailer

Do note, the casting of the US president was done years before anyone (in Europe/outside Alaska) had heard of Sarah Palin. There is a bit of vitriol in about (world) politics in general, but that coincidence is by pure (un)luck.

Personally, I liked it - but there could have been more action and less ... messages : )

Mdt

SciFi20 has IUS in addition to Brawling. Are you combining them? Or should I take them separately?

cheers

Update on people :

Characters Complete (or nearly so) :

Ceres Telluris (Professional 1/Navy 2) - Lessah - Active duty naval officer, Shuttle pilot, Engineer
Fernán Miguel Gómez (Rogue 2/Merchant 1) - Tangaroa - Freelance Merchant
Lady Annara Utoxier-Lee (Noble 3) - Captain Wombat - Diplomat & Noble
Vathan (Barbarian 1/Merchant 2) - Jubal Breakbottle - Scout & Merchant

People marking interest :

Captain Cosmos - Specifics undeclared
Grim - Specifics undeclared
Gandal - Specifics undeclared
Grand Moff Vixen - Specifics undeclared
Grimdog73 - Specifics undeclared

How game will start :

I'll start when I have 8 completed characters, or next Saturday, whichever comes first. I usually prefer 4 to 6 players, but I've realized that there's about a 25 - 45 % attrition rate after games start on the boards. So I'd rather start with 8 and lose 2 or 3 and not have to re-recruit a month later. :)

Quick note - Ceres is Professional 1 / Navy 2, and a trained Engineer : )

Yeah, I don't think in a space campaign the two feats are worth a full feat. They are combined.

Ceres Telluris wrote:

That's what I put... :)

Right :P

Would you think the Barter feat should give +2 to Diplomacy and Appraise. since of all the skills you folded into Diplomacy?

I general there are a number of feats which give +2 to a specific skill. For pathfinderization, it seems giving +2 to two skills (and +4 to anything that hits 10 ranks wouldn't be terrible.

I'm not terribly picky myself on the matter though. I could take it or leave it.

Lessah wrote:

- Finnish (or Suomaleinen).

What sort of languages do we have available, since I guess my character has 7 (Int + 3 linguistics) to start.

Barter feat giving +2 to appraise and diplomacy seems fair.

Languages : Terranglo (a bastardized homogeonization of English, Spanish, and a dozen other languages). Unless you have ranks in K/Hisotry, that's probably it. People with medical training would have Latin. Beyond that, you can save those slots for future (note that if you do run into aliens, not a foregone conclusion, learning an alien language will take 2 slots, one for speaking and one for writing, human languages, if you encounter others, will only require 1 for both, due to commonality).

Chaznaki ATV Except, obviously, no turret. :) And where the back two wheels on this is instead two pairs of tracks (four tracks total) under the rear of the vehicle. With it's low cargo capacity (only 50 vl), it's really a sport ATV, very popular with hunters and back woods people, although it's used for small cargos (people using it for cargo usually take the seats out of the back and use the passenger space for cargo, netting another 220kg vl of cargo space).

I speak spanglish. Gotch. (I know, I know: it's a creole.)

I always enjoyed the premise of 2300 A.D.: everyone spoke French. Kind of like elysium I guess?

2300 A.D and Traveller were actually merged at one point. I have some old books that are labeled Traveller 2300 AD. So yes, it's very similar.

In fact, when they merged, they used warp points, rather than jump drives. I prefer warp points. Bypasses the whole deep space thing, and makes tramp freighter's make sense.

Stutter drive! The new 2300 AD Mongoose Book isn't half bad, although I understand it just recycles a lot of older material verbatim.

It dos, when I play tested it, I broke the system with robots. Old traveler was golden age SF, so computers where big, ship crews had guys who just targeted guns etc.
But with cyberpunk and AIs of the 90s on SF now has computers in mobile phones, kind of makes golden age look dumb. With cash Computers and robots can be used to make combat units. They rob the bank with the players sip cold drinking on the beach. I really did this to show how broken it could be made. So they changed the cost for robots AI to make hard to pull that off. But also hard to make, the manufacturing bring limited and controlled by the powers that be. AI robots registered and monitored in real time on high tech high law worlds.

On another not , With a "fall" world like this one, tech range 0 to 9. tech 9 stuff become air looms and colecters items. High cost, hard to get hold of, only for the rich, connected and powerful. But also nearly impossible to manufacture, as key parts or prosseses where fine off world.

Just adding to the mix.

Well, the world originally was a TL 7 to 11 world, it's fallen to a TL 4 to 9 world. It's getting to the point where TL 9 stuff is made only in small dribs and drabs. There's some TL 10 and 11 stuff still on the planet, but it's not going to be available to the PCs. The shuttles and space station are a prime example, they are all TL 10 and 11, but they are not something the PCs are going to be able to buy.

Btw - from Traveller's Aide 1, Personal weapons (Same source as the Snub SMG). Since someone was looking for it - and it is a fitting attachment to a short-ranged shipboard weapon : )

Laser Dot Pointer

Only any use at very short ranges, a laser pointer puts a red dot where the round will go, greatly simplifying aiming. This gives the firer an advantage in rapid point-and- shoot situations. This equates +2 to hit in T20, but only at close range. Dot pointers can be fitted to any firearm.

Since my gun is worth 800 Creds and the pointer 250, I was planning on picking it up and coughing up the last 50 creds from my (famished) wallet.

Is that okay?

(There is also Electronic sights and HUDs, which is basically a Smartgun System - expensive and way out of our league)

Fairly done. Dropped Outdoor Survival for Sniper to represent his experience as a hunter.

Let me know if you want more fluff. The bones are there enough for me to know where the character is going, but let me know if you need more.

EDIT Thanks Lessah. I bought 3 of those pointers.

cheers

Just a note - it appears as if T20 uses DEX instead of STR for close combat to hit rolls (p 148, THB).

Will we be using this or pathfinderize it back to STR?

Ah, so that's why they ditched weapon finesse. Well, I'm interested to know the answer to that question.

Perhaps ones choice of either Str or Dex ?

GM my idea for Lady Annara Utoxier-Lee is that she runs an PI Agency as a business.

Special Circumstances Inc

A consultancy for Businesses and Nobles, They come to her with desecrate problems. Could be finding a Noble's runaway child, Hijacker/Kidnap investigation, Security Risk assessments, nothing unsavory.

If your ok with that, then any Players short of cash as PCs.
Could have done work for Her and she will lone them Cash if they ask, loaning your PC the money your short off etc.

This may be a great way to also get the PCs to all know it other. Thier on her books and may even have worked together.

what do you think.

She has an office in the City and a PA as her starting place.

Señora, it would be a pleasure to work with you and your most excellent agency from time to time. Your beauty and wit inspires even the most humble man's heart to unimaginable heights of excellence. And let me say, I am not unacquainted with the shadows that lurk in some peoples hearts.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

O yes Fernán would be on her books, with his skills and slick manner.

Please read - Game writing Sample:

The Lady Annara looking over at Fernán now standing in her room. he had not been there a moment ago. Rachle came in a stopped in shock.

"It's alight Rachle nothing to worry about. Mr Gómez here is just paying us a visit, please carry on writing up the MillHill Report"

Rachle a small woman with classes nods and gos back into her office, soon computer keyboard typing can be heard.

Annara then looked back over at her guest. Behind her the large tinted windows showed a view of Tentatha city. The Office was in the up market end of town, around her where law firms, accountancy company's and HR business. hers was not like that, after her time in the Diplomatic core she had found that others needed her help with problems. Things that like the Diplomatic core needed to be handles with discretion. She had on her books and number of people with talents that helped her deal with such problems. Her guest was one such. She placed a cup she was going to start drinking next to a large sign on her desk.

Lady Annara Utoxier-Lee
CEO Special Circumstances Inc

Then lady Annara Smiles at Fernán.

"You seem to have once more got past my security Fernán. I really need to get better locks. I'am happy to see your slick tongue is as golden as ever but."

She opens a draw in her desk, bring out a petty cash box.

"are you here to wax lyrical about me or like last time. Have you got some angry father after you Fernán?. In other words how much do you need to borrow this time."

She takes out some credit notes

"Normal conditions, it comes out of your fee for your next job. You sweet talking gigolo you"

If there was one thing that was constant with lady Annara, It was her business tone and manner. Polite yes but always with the business.
