I tried to recreate all your characters in my hero lab and realized that I needed about $75.00 worth of more data sets in order to completely do it. Sorry to say, as fun as our campaign is, it wasn't worth it to me to spend that much coin. Plus, for keeping track of combat things, I use Kyle Olson's Combat Manager software. That lovely little bit of software is a GM's best friend. It might be a tad intimidating at first, what with all the tabs, but it is VERY user friendly and he has a whole host of the monsters and NPCs that are listed on the d20pfsrd put in for use. Also, everything is customizable, you can edit monsters, augment them, add HD, add templates, etcetera. If needs be you can even a build a character or monster from scratch using the "Monster Editor." PLUS!!! You can import entire Hero Lab portfolios into both the Hero and Monster sections of the tracker. Couple all that with the fact that he has all the rules in searchable tabs, conditions that actually apply the requisite penalties when you add them (simply right-click and select "Add Condition") and you've got yourself one super useful tool. As far as combat tracking goes, I've never used Hero Lab, because I've used Combat Manager since I found it.

Combat Manager software.
That sounds really cool! Thanks! I will definitely check into it!
P.S. I'm about to send you a PM.
Stormstrider
Ok, I've barely started looking at Combat Manager software. and I think I'm already IN LOVE!!!! And it's free???? How can this be?
MENDED you are the greatest for showing me this! And not to mention it's creator!

Yeah, I won't run a game, PBP or tabletop, without it anymore. It is just waaaaay too handy, especially if you have the time to prep everything ahead of time. It even allows you to save the entire combat state for recalling later. The best parts of it, though, as far as I'm concerned, are: 1)the fact that you can open up Hero Lab portfolios, 2) search the rules expediently, and 3) apply conditions and the software actually applies the proper penalties and updates all the necessaries!

This did bring up 3 questions/issues for Boudacia. Nothing serious!
1. Your hex does not appear to be on your hero-lab sheet.
2. With an Int of 20 shouldn't you have 1 more Lev 1 spell? You get 2 bonus lev 1 spells right?
3. I don't see your patron on your hero-lab sheet? Both your hex & your patron are on your profile page though.See? In this case it could turn out beneficial for you! Another 1st lev spell maybe?
Wish me luck! Ozzy is next to be entered!
Good Luck.
I have been having some trouble with the technology.
I don't know why the hero lab sheet came out as it did. Maybe I can update it. The version of Herolab I have is not totally up to date, so can't be relied on fully. I will check but I think UR dead right about the level 1 spell.
Thanks.

Oh! Also forgot to say that I don't always remember, but I always double, and sometimes triple check my posts, so I usually catch it before someone else does if I post under the wrong alias. :)
I always proof read them once. Stormrider noted that I spelled "cliche" wrongly, which he didn't expect. Normally spelling errors are not worth mentioning on forums such as these. But I keep posting in my default alias.
Edit- Ironically I did it again with this post.
Tangar Tharbad
Mended, I was curious how you got your sheet to look like that in Hero Lab, is it a standard feature or some sorcery you've done lol..
Stormstrider
Stormrider noted that I spelled "cliche" wrongly, which he didn't expect. Normally spelling errors are not worth mentioning on forums such as these.
Why do people keep thinking I'm riding the storms? I cause the storms by striding in!!! ;)
And yes, normally I don't point out spelling errors, it just came as a surprise from you! Is my memory wrong in that you were an English major or something along those lines? or was that another player in Mended's game?

Boudacia wrote:And yes, normally I don't point out spelling errors, it just came as a surprise from you! I did an Arts/ Law degree, which is mostly Law, with an English major.
But that means you study literature, not do the kind of stuff done in English in high school.
But all that time at University reading and writing because of the subjects I was studying has had an effect. Being a bit obsessed by language as well does not hurt. It is kind of related to the puns.

About the character sheet I use. It is a free add on, done by a member of the Hero Lab community that is well versed in coding. It's a great sheet because when you "output" it, it creates an html sheet that is completely customizable. You can even turn on editing of the html sheet to get rid of things you don't want showing up, etc. Then I just CutePDF Writer print it from my browser. :)
In order to use the sheet you simply download it from the "Find Updates" mechanism. here's a link to a picture that shows where it is on that menu, or at least where it shows up on mine. I love the layout, the customizability, and the fact that it shows more breakdowns of info than the standard Hero Lab sheet. :) Enjoy.

cool, thanks... I'll have to see if I have it..

Stormstrider! I forgot to tell you Happy Birthday yesterday! So sorry. I hope it was a good one. Big hug from me, and Chris says Hi! I also have a game question, ha! I used the background generator, but some of the fields are not pertinent to my character as she is a dhampir. Is that okay? I also didn't think at the time that you might want to do the rolls on here (and it was still a lot of rolling, even with some stuff not being pertinent). Also, Chris helped me come up with a small table to roll up how my mother "knew" my father, if she knew him at all. Yet another question:if I don't care for the traits that my background generation brought up, can I still choose others, especially if I can tie them in? If any of this needs to change, let me know. Hugs again, just for good measure! Love you Stormy!
Oh, I have also put in a bunch more on my character sheet!
MistressRandom
Hopefully Aldhranald and MistressRandom won't steal each other's spotlight as far as rogue skills go. I did take trapfinder as a trait so Aldhranhald can find and disable traps, even the magical variety. Since he's more a knowledge seeker, I'll try to remember to let your character be the trapper, and only have Aldhranhald step in if an Aid Another seems warranted. :)
I know this is coming back to you a bit late, but I have taken the rogue archetype Sniper that lets me hit, and sneak attack, from farther away, so I will not be trapfinding. Yay, no overlap!

As much as I'd agree on that particular spear, it isn't a long spear, but just a regular one. I'd also say that as it is, it's a flexible weapon, but probably still a strength weapon, I'd have to consult one of my martial arts friends for a real answer there..All probably moot as the GM has made his decision ...
If you don't mind my opinion (7+ years of martial arts and combat training with both military and police just so you know I'm not making this up), I'd agree with you on the strength ruling. A well trained spear user may be fast, but a great deal of what they do is strength based. Granted, the spear acts as a simple tool akin to a lever for multiplying force, but it's strength in the end that matters most. That's just my opinion though, and I won't claim expertise in spear usage, just knowledge of similar weapons and body physiology.
Sorry if this got overly long, I just really have a passion for fighting.
Boudacia
Sounds correct to me too.
I share your interest in Martial Arts Zero. I actually have 13 years of martial arts training, but sadly, due to various circumstances causing me to change styles and clubs, am not anywhere near as good as that time period may indicate. I only have any real knowledge of unarmed combat.
If we knew each other face to face it would be cool to do some sparring and the like.
Zero Zephyrus
Nothing wrong with that. My weapons training is honestly limited compared to most with equivalent experience, so you probably aren't that behind. My only weapon experience is knives, bo staff, escrima, and tonfa. The more tradition stuff isn't my forte. My instructor has a habit of pulling parts from several styles, so my personal style is like the mutt of martial arts.
Sparring would be cool indeed. What styles did you learn out of curiosity?

No worries, I understand passion ... I wish I had the practical knowledge on the subject.. I do have friends that do and I usually default to their knowledge, or what I can research myself..

I have done a stupid number of things in modest amounts. Really inefficient as I said earlier.
What I have trained most in is Tae Kwon Do and Tong Long [aka Mantis] Kung Fu.
I know some grappling too, but it is primitive compared to my striking.
The way I fight standing is mostly Tae Kwon Do incorporating a bit of other things, occasionally switching to Tong Long just to confuse opponents. You can't really do them at the same time. So I am some freaky hybrid too.

LOL.

Hey folks! Sorry for any delay, I've been without internet since yesterday afternoon sometime!
It's great to get on here and see 13 new game-play entries & 13 new discussions!
I'll answer/respond as quickly as possible, but today is a busy day for me as well! Doctor apptmnt this AM, and this afternoon I start back to work, and tonight is my weekly tabletop pathfinder game ... so please continue to be patient with me! As usual, I'll try to respond in the order I rec'd them.
A personal request for you prayer warriors out there, I know we have at least 2 or 3! And for any well-wishers as well. I'm out of my pain meds, though I've been stretching them out and making them last longer then the prescribed orders were, and the surgeon is giving me a hard time about getting more, even though I'm in serious pain when they wear off! I'm going to be talking to her this AM to try to convince her to give me more! I understand she does not want me to get addicted to them, but she is not aware that I did volunteer work for 2 yrs in a rehab facility that dealt exclusively with drug & alcohol addicts, so I know better than the average citizen the dangers & results of addiction. That is why when my doctor's orders say to take one every 6 hrs, I wait 7,8,9 or even 10 hrs before I take another! Any how ... sorry, Guess I wanted to vent. Thanks for reading if you did, and if not, no big loss.
MendedWall12
Prayers sent for the easing of your pain. Glad you are feeling better enough to go back to work even just part time. Glad your job was willing to work with you on that. There's seriously no rush here Stormstrider, we have ample opportunity to roleplay getting to know each other in the parlor of The Helmed Lady for a few days I'd say. So you do you, and we'll be here. :)
edit: Also!!!! Happy belated birthday!!! So sorry I forgot on the day, even after you reminded us.

Question for clarification please: Zero asked how I'm handling spell failure. My understanding of the rules is that a chance for spell failure occurs only if you are wearing armor that has a spell failure chance and you are using a somatic component correct? And in such a case, when someone wants to cast a spell, the DM first rolls a percentage chance to see if the spell was successful or not. Either way the spell slot or usage thereof still gets expended. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Otherwise this is how I'm handling it. Does that answer it?

Thanks! And I forgot to say Happy Birthday to Chris! Sorry! I never can remember the date, other than sometime before mine, during the month of February! And, I know yours is coming up in March, but I can't remember the date either! Oh MY!
As far as your backstory & your 2 traits (and don't forget 1 drawback as well!) they are purely your choice (pending DM's approval once you let him know what they are!). So you don't have to stick to anything those rolls gave you. I don't even require a backstory, though it's nice! I'll look over your character sheet in a bit here to check it out.

You didn't forget Chris, his is one week after yours, silly. Mine is the fourth. I expect lots of presents!! JK! But for gameplay, I do know we don't have to do a backstory, it just helps me RP better. Besides, I want those invisible, arbitrary GM points you spoke of earlier! I've got my drawback for sure, and I'm mostly sure about my traits, but wanted to make sure of your ruling on this before putting them on my character sheet. Also, as far as RL, just be careful. That kind of thing (addiction) can sneak up on you. I wouldn't want to have to come down there & detox you!! That said, if you still need the pain meds, you still need them. Take your time, and don't try to do too much! I'm keeping my eye on you, mister!!

That sounds really bad. Pain you can put up with, but when it is all the time day after day it gets unbearable. I hope your doctor sees sense. The pain will practically certainly ease gradually as the wounds from surgery heal, so there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Getting back to work, even part time, is likely the start of things getting back to normal.
I didn't know about your birthday, but a retrospective happy birthday from me anyway. You turned 19, yes?

Stuff
Imma go ahead and guess Tamlara has red hair, since both your PBP avatar and the picture on your Myth Weavers character sheet have a picture of a pretty gal with lipstick-red hair. :) ;) Drop dead looks, and deadly with a bow... Tamlara the twice deadly sniper of the Echo Wood...

That's right, buddy! The picture on my M-W character sheet is pretty much it. She's tall, well-muscled, super-pale, with fiery red hair and the bluest eyes you've ever seen!

@ Tangar, apparently you need to change the permission settings on the picture of your axe. Or at least it said I don't have permission.

Nice! Though I had to look it up, to understand the reference, LOL. Don't get me wrong, I love Dr. Who, but I'm not exactly a die-hard fan. . .of anything, for that matter. Too many varied interests.

Ok, I see Aldhranhald's flirting with Tamlara already! Like the red hair/blue eyes Aldhranhald? ;)
Funny thing is, I know what she looks like in RL! I'm not going to say anything about that (she already knows what I think of her!)
Thank you everybody for the birthday wishes And the prayers & well-wishes for my pain. Just got back from the doc & she agreed to give me more pain meds, she just lowered the dosage. I took 1 as soon as I got them from the pharmacy & already feeling MUCH better! :D She is concerned that I'm still having this much pain this far after the surgery (that was 1/10), so she's ordering a CT scan within the next 2 weeks just to make sure everything's ok.

well who doesn't like a red head lol
I am sort of an outcast in town, though I have grown up here. That's why I'm hoping this is okay, I haven't heard back from Stormstrider whether Kagnin is friendly, indifferent or unfriendly yet, but I was hoping for this chance at an introduction, so hopefully it will be okay. Also, I have left him with a lot to think about/decide on, so it might take him a little while. *Disarming smile*
sounds like you did well on your background. I always find backgrounds difficult, if only in that I hate putting them to the printed word. I can create varied and interesting ones, just hate writing them out.. seems final somehow..
I'm hoping you have a good time here, I've done play by posts since about 2002, on various boards, at one time I was playing about 20 characters and running one game myself. Some nights we even got all of us together and had, what we called , Post-a-thons.. lol.. rapid back and forth posts that got us through a week or two of game in a single night..
with as many as are here and such varied schedules I'm sure we won't get that crazy but you never know.. maybe a couple people have the time and get some RP in on a nights stay at an inn or a late night conversation inside the spire on watch..
looking forward to more RP.. with our last player posting we should be good to go soon..
Tamlara
Yep, I have the basics done, and I can flesh her out as we go. Like I said earlier, I left Stormy with quite a list of things to "tink" on. . . And I still have to write out Tamlara's background (not a problem for me, just have to do sit down & do it) but some of it has to wait on Stormy's decisions as it could also affect in-game play a little.
Stormstrider
@ Tamlara, I received both your PM's. Sending you a PM shortly with some answers/suggestions. Just in case you don't know, watch for it at the very top of the screen, where it tells you hello.
GREAT intro! Fairly good job on your tag-line, but could use a little more work, same on you character sheet. Tomorrow I'l send you another PM with some helpful info on that stuff.

depends on who you talk too.. the new idea is that beardless women appeal more to guys not used to dwarven legacies, and want smooth skinned babes in their games.. lol.. this is a running argument in one of my game groups.. the GM just can't abide a bearded woman, and neither can the guy playing a dwarf lol...
