stupid button...accidentally hit the X and closed my browser. grr

i misread kodokura's posting. having reread it, i now understand what he was accomplishing. no one takes damage. alathea can post a double round for having posted an action that now no longer happened. Balefire anyone??!

i have updated the map and moved people to where they are based upon comments.

Running down the trail, you hear something odd. turning to look back you see an Illianer running, looking the worst for wear. he face is tore up, large gashes and infected wounds criss cross his face and neck. who knows what else is wrong with him. his hair is matted to his head, the cause you shudder to think about. Trollocs do be right behind me! Whether you do run or fight, you cannot rest!" he bellows, his steps getting a bit more lethargic than your fresh legs.

To provide factual evidence to his statement, you see several larger trollocs burst out of the trees along side him and give chase. these trollocs appear to be a bit larger and leaner. They leap forward, swords swinging wildly as their arms pump.
One trolloc appears in the midst of the group momentarily. a full head taller than the others, you spot a veil upon his face, and three spear points appearing in the air before him as he runs.
1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29

a spear, the size of a longspear in human hands flys through the air and hits merdrith, piercing her thigh and pinning itself to the ground causing her to stumble next to dengorin.
as she falls to the ground, one of the larger trollocs rushes up on her, ready to kill her.

As the spear flashes past him and hits the woman nearest to him, he sees another of the women throw her hands up, shouting for someone to grab the fallen one. An Ogier with a sword charged the Trollocs pursuing him, his blade sweeping over his head. Fortune prick me, this lot do be mad. But I can no leave a woman to the likes of these beasts.

Pausing in his flight, he bent and, partially supporting the woman, moved her closer to the rest of her companions under the cover of the sword-swinging Ogier.

1. At what point did Fia's group run past Rhoekk's group?
2. Wasn't Merdrith with Fia's group? When did we leave her behind? Fia was retreating at the rear of her group and would have noticed if someone lagged behind her.
3. Does Alathea's ward against shadowspawn still stand currently, and do the elite trollocs appear to be unphased by it?

Against her own advice, seeing Merdrith go down makes Analin stop running. She channels thick strands of air to pick up the fallen Aes Sedai. "Someone pull her! I can't move her very quickly!"

Arms of Air, level 3 (level 2 weave due to affinities) should be more than enough to pick her up. But AoA can only go 20' per round on its own- I'm hoping we can use it like a stretcher and someone can drag Merdrith along at a faster pace.

Sorry guys, for some reason my phone is having great difficulty seeing the map... I'm flying a bit blind :/ If it's possible for me to throw another fireball and hit a clump of these new trollocs and no party members I'll do that. I'll also stay by Alathea's side, going to her if I'm not already. And cheers for the retcon Rizzen - I think that's the first time Kodo's done anything really effective in combat, I was a bit devastated to have damaged everyone!

Male Human Cleric (cardinal) 3 | Councilor

I took a look at the map for you. You can easily throw another fireball and hit nothing but Trollocs.

Female Ebou Dari Wilder 11
current stats:
hp 33/44(with original constitution 68/77), weaves remaining 5/3/4/4/4/1/1

Retcon for the previous round:

Alathea lashes out with a fireball of her own, sending it hurling into the midst of the swarming trollocs.

Alathea is weaving a level 6 fireball, using a 1st level weave with her sa'angreal and meeting all required affinities. She'll center it in the middle of the back group of trollocs...say, AR17. (Since the map has been updated since last round, please let me know if the previous round's positioning would make this impossible or undesirable...I don't want to cause the very problem that got retconned!) That should be well clear of any of her friends. Damage is 6d6 + 11 ⇒ (5, 2, 6, 5, 6, 1) + 11 = 36, reflex save vs. DC 20 for half damage.

-------------

The current round (assuming that Merdrith is in Alathea's line of sight...the map makes it look like it could go either way):

Doing her best to keep up and channel at the same time, Alathea weaves cables of Air and wraps them around Merdrith. With a desperate yank, Alathea pulls the woman away from the attacking trolloc. She does not attempt to pull her all the way to where she stands, but only to pull her to safety...preferably behind Chen's whirlwind of steel.

Alathea is using Arms of Air (the non-violent throw) at level 4, using a level 0 weave and her sa'angreal. She's attempting to move Merdrith 20 feet down the path away from the trollocs.

No worries. :)

Hmmm... I'm torn, but I think I will go ahead and have it go off. So we can avoid further retconning complications, I will have it go off just on the other side of the one with Merdrith (the outer edge of the weave that is - not the center). I don't have my book with me atm, but it will be the largest sized dome of hardened air she can create (if memory served 50 ft radius? or was it diameter?), weaved in such a way to capture (and suffocate) as many trollocs as she can, prioritizing the elite ones, but it should hit a good number of the 'mob' as well, and hopefully cause confusion among those not caught as they'll suddenly be running full speed into a barrier with the weight and pressure of the ones coming up behind pushing them into and against it. (such is her thought anyway ;) Ref DC 20 (assuming lvl 6 weave)

Ok. Now that I have the rule book... the weave description says nothing one way or the other about what it would look like. While most things in RL appear differently between gaseous and hardened forms, this is hardly 'most things' or RL, and I don't remember exactly how this weave was described in the books. The weave may well be, and probably is 'invisible'. I guess that is a DM call.

I will point out a few other things though. Rhoekk would probably notice that two of the creatures he's aiming at have suddenly freezed up. Same for Kodo, who knows the weave Fia cast and would be familiar with its effects.

That, and when Fia readied this action (and when I believe she would have cast it - if that is not so, let me know Rizzen), she was:

* At the rear of her group, with her group presumed to be running away,
* on the opposite side of the "portal group" from where she is depicted now - i.e. between them and the enemy and thus blocking arrow shots (as was the rest of her group)
* looking behind her at said enemy (who at the point of her declared readied action was described as a 'many feet coming from the direction of the fort) and likely not aware relief was approaching or nearby.
* Did tell her group to "Go!" as she was readying the action :P
* When she turns after weaving to continue running away and sees the other group (or sees Kodo in front of her glaring and pointing as if casting in the direction behind her, she would / will shout warning as to what she weaved.

So yeah, sorry if I'm being obtuse or ridiculously anal on details (I can get that way), or some combination of the two. At any rate, I'm thinking some more DM adjucation is called for.

1) ok, where do you want to stand fia? move your PC to wherever you want on the board.
2)this week has sucked hard for me. so nothing from me til monday. unless i get some motivation to do something saturday, but more than likely monday.
3)with hardened air, it can be either clear or cloudy, depending on the caster. It was utilized in book 4 when nynaeve and elayne were interregating the Black ajah, and had used the hardened air weave to block their sight. so i will say at the time of casting you have to dictate what it is. if you tie it off, then that is it. if you maintain concentration, you can change it every round.

dammit, was ninja'd by fia.

have a good trip!!!

Male Human Wilder 8/ Asha'man 2/ Armsman 2 (hp: 69/69)

Okay, this post is dependent on Fia making her dome visible; if it's not, I'll post a different action.

Standing next to Alathea, and seeing her attention snap to the mass of trollocs charging out of the fort, Kodo resigns himself to not running yet. With a mere thought he sends another ball of fire towards the group at the back.

Okay, so this is also assuming that Alathea's fireball (which Kodo may or may not be aware of? I'm assuming her action is first) doesn't take out all of the new batch of trollocs. If they all fall to hers before I act, I'll obviously do something else, like ready a weave in case any tangos get past the front line and put Kodo or the other backliners in danger. I think AQ 17 is about the limit of my range (yes, I have use of a computer for the day!), so I'll aim there. All of the party members nearest the dome should be covered by it, but I'm pretty sure they're out of range.

So, just in case it's needed, here's the result for my level 6 fireball:

Fireball Damage: 6d6 + 10 ⇒ (6, 5, 4, 1, 4, 5) + 10 = 35

HP 156/156 | AC 32 (T 25, FF 28) | CMD 33 (35 vs. Disarm/37 vs. Grapple) | F +8 | R +13 | W +8 | Init +8 | Per +19 Aiel

Rhoekk turns his bow towards the new group of Trollocs, drawing his next arrow with an almost absentminded grace. From the calm and steady set of his green eyes, you would think him as at ease here as a shooting targets on the lawn at Belltine. However, when his eyes alight upon the strangely clad and giant trolloc, an eyebrow quirks in something like surprise; not as in shock, but more like coming back to the hold and finding the people absent and the goats wearing cadin'sor and tending the crops.

The pause lasts the barest of an instant, but might have represented a surprisingly steady beat of his shots, had they been keeping time with this dance's particular tempo. A bare moment after that last beat however, the thrum of arrows resumes, in cadence with the missing beat. Seeing the dome fall into place over and around the trollocs, including the prize pig, he swivels to the left and rains his shots down on the trollocs there, picking out those along the periphery of the fiery explosion wrought by the man in the black coat.

Going for the one's furthest from Kodokura's fireball, firing through the trees.
1d20 + 18 ⇒ (14) + 18 = 321d100 ⇒ 411d8 + 9 + 3d10 ⇒ (3) + 9 + (1, 2, 8) = 23
1d20 + 18 ⇒ (12) + 18 = 301d100 ⇒ 111d8 + 9 + 3d10 ⇒ (4) + 9 + (6, 4, 9) = 32
1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 251d100 ⇒ 741d8 + 9 + 3d10 ⇒ (7) + 9 + (3, 4, 4) = 27 (to a tree, I presume)
1d20 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 221d100 ⇒ 281d8 + 9 + 3d10 ⇒ (8) + 9 + (2, 7, 9) = 35

ok, time to play catch up.

ryvins elsa impression: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16
freeze will save dc 20. Really? will...i may have to review that one.: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

charging up on the pinned aes sedai and her small group of friends, the trolloc suddenly begins to quiver and shake violently as a blue hue over takes its body. frost lines and icicles begin to form upon its body, slowing it down. bellowing in rage, a massive cone of frost erupts from its throat, showering everyone next to it with frozen spittle and phlem as it recovers from the chill that settled upon it.

chen rushes back towards the stuck aes sedai, and reaching over her, takes a massive gouge out of the trolloc. Normally blood and ichor would spray from such a vicious wound, but frost rims the sword as it is withdrawn, and the blood falls slowly to the ground in heavy sludge blobs.

Keelix moves along side the strange newcomer, and attacks the trolloc. His sword strike is perfect. the blade catches the trolloc in the mouth as it bellows in pain. a cut off yelp sounds suddenly from its mouth as the blade pierces the brainstem, killing the creature instantly. it falls to the ground in a heap.

seeing her friend and fellow aes sedai get hurt, analin steps back to get a better vantage point in all the chaos of melee. pinpointing her companion, she deftly weaves Air and begins to pick up and slide the wounded merdrith along on her back, the spear digging in and dragging behind her as merdrith slides.

Amorial, seeing an opening to hinder the trollocs, calls forth the trees and branches to stop them. limbs and weeds and vines reach out and grasp at trolloc limbs.

amorial, i dont think we ever settled on a dc for your entangle. we should work that out. for now, i am applying a DC 20 to it.

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25

ok, i see that i need to do some heavy dming on this. Since all but two of the nine failed their ref save to avoid entangle, all of them suffer from a -2 to their ref saves due to the -4 dex. two of them rolled below the DC 20 for the hardened air, so they automatically are hardened, but one had a save 21, but drops it to a 19 with the -2 ref save modifier, so 3 total trollocs will be trapped in the hardened air dome.

gonna take a liberty here...ok make that several as i see some situations just cannot happen.

Fia, ever the valiant guardian to her friends and companions, stands with Merdrith. Reaching deep, and not trusting her skill with the spear, instead channels threads of air, and encapsles the area in front of her in an attempt to stop, or at least slow down, the trollocs. Strands thicker than her wrist merge together, forming an impenetrable barrier. where some of these larger trollocs stand, the weaves seem to flow around or melt away, leaving them unhindered. others, the weaves almost melt and then resolidify, forcing the trollocs to leap to safety. Unfortunately 3 trollocs are not so lucky, and are covered up by the heavy air.

i already rolled for the hardened air in a previous post

Alathea, seizing upon an opportunity, hurls a massive fireball, not into the combatants, but up above in the air. the fireball explodes high in the air, but the flames shoot down and engulf the trollocs within the area of the hardened sphere. trapped within they can only burn in agony as the flames eat at their skin and clothing and armor. the hardness of the air prevents the sounds of their suffering from reaching yoru ears, but you know that the sound would be pleasant to hear. the other two trollocs simply suffocate in silence.

Seeing the fireball effect upon the near group, kodokura launches another one in the same position for the same effect.

Turning, the large trolloc runs back the way it came, leaving its companions laying on the ground, dead, and those trapped within the air to die a long slow death from suffocation...

Supporting the injured woman, Dengorin ran in the direction of these others. He didn't know them, and they didn't know him, but they weren't Trollocs, and that was all the important thing to him. Still, he hoped they had a way out apart from running, or else they would end up fighting this army of Trollocs regardless.

I see no reason for that. At all.

With no immediate threats, Keelix swiftly cleans his blade and sheaths it. Then he turns to run, pausing to scoop Merdrith off the ground as he passes her, speaking to the assembled channelers as a group, "I have her, please release her from the Power." Trusting to Fia to watch his back, he concentrates on putting the shadowspawn behind him and heads for the portal tree.

Amorial thanks his plant brethren apologizing for not being able to do more for their plight he too turns and runs back towards the portal.

Rhoekk hesitates long enough for his companions to fall in beside him, and then he starts moving with them, covering their rear as they move.

So, out of curiosity, has everyone missed that I'm carrying the injured person (Merdrith)?

Chen stares at the frost ridden Trolloc, Rhoekk stands beside him, as the rest of the party flees towards the portal.

"We should not let that thing leave here alive!" he shouts over the din of panicking Trollocs and burning forest.

His massive hands grip tight on the hilt of his blood soaked blade. "I shouldn't run." he thinks aloud.

He takes a light step forward. "I'll not abide that Shadow cursed being breathing on the morrow! Cover me!" he shouts to Rhoekk.

At a sprint, he charges the close and retreating aberration of an Trolloc.

Charge attack: 1d20 + 17 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 17 + 2 + 2 = 25
Damage: 2d8 + 21 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5, 1) + 21 + 2 + 2 = 31

I think yes but Rizzen will retcon in his post tomorrow. Fog of War and all that.

Not at all. It just does not matter to Keelix since you were only partially supporting the person whose leg is injured. You are an unknown person to us, and while Keelix may not like Merdrith, neither is he keenly interested in having you be the one helping her run away. Particularly when you are doing so in a manner that means she has to use her own injured legs and someone else is trying to use the power to help move her. Hence, keelix scooped her up off the ground and is carrying her. He can move with her in his arms much faster than she can hobble along, even being partially supported by a stranger that came out of the woods with a bunch of Trollocs. A stranger who Keelix never actually saw trollocs attack.

Emphasis mine. Even if you are actually carrying her, Keelix will be insisting that you relinquish her to him.

Just so we're clear I'm not using the Power to support her. I wasn't sure if your post asking her to be released from the Power was directed at me or if you just hadn't seen my posts. I though it was only directed at the channelers.

As the other man moved to take the injured woman, Dengorin was shocked to see his eyes were golden yellow, like a wolf's. Relinquishing his support of her, and somewhat uneased by the sight of the golden yellow eyes, he heard one of the Ogier shout that he was attacking the Trollocs. Turning, he shouted, "You can no stand against that many Trollocs! Turn and run!" Knowing he could likely move faster than the others with that fancy earring he'd found, he stopped running and drew his sword, ready to stand with the Ogier if need be.

No confusion. I added that part to cover the intended action of Analin so that all circumstances were dealt with. :)

When Dengorin turns back to the fight, Keelix slows for a moment, his eyes narrowing suspiciously. He is carrying their injured, however, and once again picks up speed, barely slowed by the woman he is carrying.

Alathea begins to flee to the portal with her companions, but Chen's word's hold her up. "He is right," she mutters, and turns away from the doorway. Weaving ropes of Air as thick as she can manage, she binds the strange trolloc in place for Chen.

Alathea is using a level 0 weave (with sa'angreal and all affinities met) to cast a level 5 harden air weave. She intends to immobilize the trolloc by wrapping him in air, leaving only his shoulders, neck, and head free. He needs to make a reflex save vs. DC 19 to dodge free.

As Keelix pauses in his movement, Rhoekk calls back to him, "Keelix Andren; or you, the one who flees," gesturing to Dengorin, "I need arrows. Lend me the aid of your quiver."

So, I haven't been tracking arrows in forever, and while I started with a large number (I think I had two quivers, mine and the one that came with the white bow), chances are at the rate I've been firing them (4-5 arrows a round) that I should probably be running out about now.

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
hmmm...interesting.

rhoekk, thats fine. i havent been tracking also, so your thought is valid.

chen, what is your weave resistance at?
everyone, the dc for weave resistance on the trolloc is 30

i will wait for alathea to roll for weave resistance, as it will dictate what the trolloc does.

Pausing, Keelix slips the quiver off his back and hands it to the Aielman, "Use them well, Rhoekk."
