Roland's song choice was awesome. That (Iris) was the theme song for a character of mine for the one campaign we actually played from 1-20th level. She was a warlock who every level became less human and more fey. For most of the campaign (from level 6 on) she was in love with one of her party members, but she never said anything because he was engaged to someone else. I told the GM outside of game, but the other players had no idea. As time went on we kept losing players and by the end it was just those two left in the party, with a couple of NPCs added for survivability. I think they were level 16 before she ended up accidentally blurting out her feelings. I don't know who was more shocked, the PC or his player. And then he kept her hanging for the next three levels before he made up his mind how he felt about her. :)
Anyways, that song always makes me think of Elijah Grace now.

This thought has occurred to her....but where else is a neurotic paper mage/ angry nature spirit going to find gainful employment? So she's barely older than her students and a walking bundle of insecurities. She shows up for class and at least attempts to follow the lesson plan....and this is actually an improvement on her predecessor who was somewhat prone to falling asleep in the middle of his own lectures. ;P

They only accept applicants who no longer have a soul...or is that a heart? Maybe both. Either way. :P

Oh weird, the Discussion thread didn’t do that “x new’ thing so I didn’t look at it for a bit.

Thanks, I like that song a lot too. That sounds like a really fun game, just from the point of being able to play out a love story over a long period of time. It had a happy ending I hope?
My two favorite types of stories personally are action adventures and love stories, so when roleplaying I have a great deal of fun in games that blend elements of both. This game in particular has a lot of draw for me because it combines powerful cosmic goings on with high school drama. Soooo much more fun than your typical: “Kill the troll, find a +1 sword.”

Yes, it had a happy ending. The campaign ended with those two getting married (the original fiancé had married someone else while he was away) and building a new kingdom for his displaced tribe. It was cool. It was the first time I actually got to get the whole story from beginning to end. :)
Sounds like we like the same sorts of stories. This is why The Three Musketeers will always be one of my favorite books. Action, adventure, and romance all in the same book. Perfect! And that's definitely what I prefer in games as well. Which can sometimes weird the guys out a bit, so I've learned to be careful of it in real-life games. But here it's easier to include more emotional themes in with the action-adventure. For that matter it's a lot easier to be over the top with the action-adventure in a PBP. Not that I have a lot of experience GMing in person since the one time I tried I had an emotional breakdown about three sessions in because the stress was just too much for me. The players were pretty bummed.

@ lynora
+1 to that ending, that’s cool.
It’s funny to me that you bring up The Three Musketeers, that was one of my favorite stories as a kid(well I read the young adults version my school put out, which may or may not have been the same as the real book. Hmmm now I want to read the original just to see.) Yeah that story kicks soooo much ass (didn’t really care for The Man in the Iron Mask on the other hand, different author anyway though, I think.)
What’s funny about role playing romance in around the table games is I’ve actually learned I can get away with being way more intense in my descriptions and conversations then the female players seem to be “allowed” to; just because the male players seem to sometimes have a reaction to them of either “this is kinda more than I can handle” or “wait are you flirting with my character or with me?” if nothing else, which can get really, really awkward fast (if slightly hilarious, if only from my point of view). Although I think it is less of a man/woman issue though than just the fact that we are all a bunch of dorks. It has made me the default “Romance Character” player in most of my games though, because with me people know it won’t get weird, which is cool, more romantic stories for me!
I’m liking PBP so far, the only thing I’m missing from an in person game is the energy of the snappy dialogue you can have with a real person when simple talking instead of posting in text, I really like the quick back and forth of that but it isn’t a terrible loss and the lag here has the advantage of letting you consider your response before you say it(although I haven’t really taken advantage of that yet, maybe I should, might lead to higher quality roleplaying =p)
Oh yeah, GMing a game can be pretty overwhelming, especially at first. I’m sorry that was hard on you =(
For what it is worth you seem to be doing an excellent job here.

The Man in the Iron Mask is by the same author, but Dumas was kinda hit or miss. That book and Twenty Years Later both kinda blend in my mind on account of both being so godawful bad. Stupid whiny Mary-Sue Raul. Authors should never write fanfic for their own work. It's just wrong. >.<
On the other hand, The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo are both utterly awesome. Well worth reading. The latter gets a slow start but is worth hanging in there for. The movies never quite do it justice...mostly because you need at least a miniseries to get to that many plot twists. (Also, the movies usually write out Haydee in the interest of keeping Mercedes as a love interest which makes me sad.) :)

sorry if my posts are... lackluster today. posting from my phone, and going to be out of town this evening, so posting will be sparse at best.
No worries. I think today we'll mostly be covering the week's highlights as opposed to needing a lot of interactions.

The Count of Monte Cristo all day. Been trying to find the book. I want to make a character like this now.
Edmond Dantes is teh awesome. :)
You can get the ebook for cheap (99 cents) or Barnes and Noble have an inexpensive paperback version. That's where I got my copy. It got difficult to obtain through the library since Ann Arbor library has this bad habit of only keeping recently published books. :/

Phaezeriel doesn't really have any plots that need to be resolved at the moment. He will stop being so awkward around Roland with time, and conversation will not really hasten that; he is too wary. Same applies for Tyrrin. The only thing that might be interesting is the explanation to his friends why he is suddenly so different. (particularly with Vai since he can no longer use magic.)
Wyrd has potential for interesting, but nothing that need be dealt with during the coming week. He is going to be pretty occupied with learning to cope with school without letting his temper get the better of him. He will also spend some time in the school's forge, which will be of interest to anyone else who uses it.
about the forge, is it it's own separate room? is there anyone else at the school who uses it? was it spawned for Wyrd to use?

the forge is it's own separate room. It was spawned for Wyrd to use. But now that it exists some others may trickle in to use it from time to time.

But no Haydee. Which makes me sad.
Yeah. Dantes getting his revenge of Fernand is way better when he's not worried so much about Mercedes.
The book is a bit different on these parts, Mrdarklight. The revenge schemes are WAY more convoluted. Also Luigi Vampa rocks much.

For advancement...
Krays will comfort and pamper Ephebe, but not unto annoyance.
Ryuzo will spend all of his free time with Nala, but not unto annoyance ;)
Ghalen has done all of the research he needs to get a good idea of how things went down. Dunno theres more to do with him except get him tangled in someone else's plots...
Genosuke will be Genosuke.
Hellboy... Sir 'not yet appearing in this film' :P

Hmmm same author, huh? I wonder why I thought two different people wrote them, maybe because they compare to each other so poorly=D.
The downtown Ann Arbor library, the one by the bus station, actually had a pretty impressive selection of books in my opinion when I was visiting some time ago, sad to hear they aren’t as good anymore(if that is the library you are talking about.)
I know they built a pretty huge library in Ypsilanti awhile ago, you might want check that one out just for fun. They might have a better selection, it is nice.
lynora
They're building a new main library building so collections are kind of in flux right now. I can still request books from other library systems through the state library system, but I got tired of fighting with the A2 library bureaucracy when they kept doing crap like not notifying me when requested books came in or not processing renewal requests. And it turns out they can charge you more in fines than a book is worth. >.<
Ypsi library is not very close to here, but it is gorgeous. Used book store is still cheaper than all the library fees. Sadly.

Lol, that does sound frustrating. Yeah the Ypsilanti library is a beauty(that is prolly why they put it way out there, so the rest of Ypsi couldn’t slime it with its trashed vibe=D.) I hope the new Ann Arbor one will be as cool.
*Apologies if you’re an Ypsi fan but I call ‘em like I see ‘em. Although, I guess Depot Town is pretty cool ;)
lynora
Nah, you're right. Is how it is. Depot Town is nice. The rest of Ypsi is not so much nice. I live in Ann Arbor on the east side, not too far from the border between Ann Arbor and Ypsi. There are some nice neighborhoods in Ypsi, but they are outnumbered by the bad ones. And Ypsi schools...*shudder* There's a reason we chose to pay more in rent to stay in Ann Arbor.
Dogbladewarrior
That’s cool, Ann Arbor is really nice, from what I’ve seen. I have a good friend who grew up around there and has told me a lot of stories about that area as well(he loves it). He is a Huron high school alum and went to the U of M. Kissed a girl for the first time at the Top of the Park and learned the art of charming incoherent rambling at the feet of the legendary Shaky Jake himself. He kinda makes me want to live there someday (and no, that has nothing to do with Ann Arbor’s prevalence of coeds or the joys of the Hash Bash.)
<.<
>.>
I swear!
lynora
It's a great place to live. The amenities of a big city without actually being one. ^.^
Hash bash is not really so great from my perspective, but I'm the sort of person who hallucinates every time I have a fever so mind-altering substances are way overkill. :P
And Art Fair. >.<
You can spot a local by seeing the reaction to those words. The ones who cringe and roll their eyes are the ones who live here. :D
One of the famous restaurants here, Angelos (awesome french toast and pancakes btw), actually shuts down for a month every summer just to avoid art fair.

Nice!
Actually what’s funny about the Hash Bash is that(at least when I was there) no one was smoking or selling because the police were out in force, wanting to hand out money making tickets. I just like the idea of celebrating my favorite non cooking herb. =D
Is the problem with the Art Fair just that it shuts down downtown really bad? Or is it the tourists?
Don’t think I’ve been to Angelos, but I did go to an Indian restaurant and a Mongolian barbeque that were awesome, there was a good Italian place too, can’t remember any of their names right now though for some reason.

Re: art fair, yes. Traffic and tourists pretty much shut down the whole town. It's a nightmare for locals.
The mongolian barbecue is bd's Mongolian barbecue. Real clever name. :)
Indian could have been shalimar, Mahek, or that one tiny place whose name I always forget.
Good Italian would be Palio, gratzi, or paesanos. The other place in kerrytown is very nit good. Argieros s the name I think.
