Hallf the Scaled
Hallf's face twists with fury, as he gestures at a severed hand clasping a mace nearby,
"I do not know, but not all of us live. I cannot see why we live, this fears me, but I will make it regret leaving me alive. I am Hallf the Scaled, Druid and avenger of Sarkoris, I let my comrades say better rest they have more silver in this tongue."
Nathaniel.
|
"Aye. "Nathaniel frowns then opens his eyes wide in surprise. "Is that... Crissor, was it not? And Kenan? I remember, the first day we set out..."
Tapping his hat, the dinosaur glows golden for a moment then adopts Nathaniel's form, just twice as large. Hesitating but a moment, he flies forward and helps Hallf's air elementals bring the rest down from the crosses. "My party has a healer- I can rush and fetch her, if you need help..."
Crissor Salem
Crissor groans and trys to shake his head to clear his vision some.
Fort check, assuming my cloak isn't on

"I agree Kenan, while I'd like a bit of vengance getting off this thing is priority"
He then listens to Nathaniel and Hallf talk. While the elementals work on his bindings.
Kenan Borjigon
Nathaniel, it's good to see you. We are in a predicament here. We fought some kind of demon at the Fort of the Nail and lost. We don't know, why we survived, but are eager to find out what happened and to take revenge for our lost comrades. If we manage to recover, we would be pleased to join your party. There are dangers in the Worldwound, our small groups of crusaders can't withstand, as we unfortunately found out.
Nathaniel.
|
Nathaniel nods. "Like this you would be picked off easily, no disrespect to your skills. I will return shortly with my healer, if you all are stable for the moment."
Unless anyone seems to be immediately dying, he flies off to the group.
"Good news, of a sort- they are fellow crusaders, defeated by a demon and somehow laid out like that. I know two of them, Kenan and Crissor- I believe it is no deception. They are somewhat the worse for the elements, and miss Abigail they could use your skills. Shall we go?"
Hallf the Scaled
Hallf watches Nathaniel go, his suspicions slightly alleviated by his comrades seeming knowledge of the strange being,
"Sigmund can you heal us? We should get ready in case this is trick. Any of you think why we live, and why we have our gear?"
As he puts on his gear he scans the others with detect magic, searching for some lingering trick of the fiends.
"We need to think what to do with cursed mace to."
Liette d'Argent
"I'll go check them out," Liette quickly replies, unholstering a revolver and gripping her reins with her free hand. With a gentle nudge to the horse's flank with her heels, she urges the steed forward in a gallop. Dust kicks up from the horse's hooves as she rides ahead.
Approaching the crosses, the crucified see first the plume of dust in the heat haze, then the emerging form of a woman in a long white coat and mithral chain armor. The white-haired woman is young, barely out of her teens, and carries an etched revolver in one hand as she approaches on the horse.
"Gods above," is the first thing out of her mouth when she witnesses the crucifixion. Immediately, the revolver is holstered and she hops off of the horse, boots touching down to the ground with a crunch of sand and stones. "Don't-- don't struggle, I'll get you out." Turning to the horse, Liette starts searching Faraldur's saddlebags to see if he had any tools in them that could help remove the nails without doing further damage.
_________
I don't know if Faraldur kept anything on his horse, but Liette is looking for something to pry the nails out with, if there's anything available.
Hallf the Scaled
The elemental a should have released everyone long since FYI Liette.
Hallf gives Liette a small nod of greeting clearly still wary. Feeling the sun beating down he casts an extended protection from elements upon himself and upon Sigmund with his rod,
"Barrun dakk irr?" He mutters to himself.
Viorel Ariaza
Viorel nods at Nathaniel. "Let's see I will be damned if I will be fooled a second time with the same trick." With that he ushers his horse to start moving towards the other group. On his way up he casts detec magic to help reveal possible deceit. After making his way finally up there he pulls out waterskin from his backpack. The mage gives a small nod of his head to those of the group he regonizes. "You lot seem to have seen better days." He holds out the waterskin.
Since OOC I know these are PCs I did not make any rolls for the detect magic.
Kenan Borjigon
Kenan takes the waterskin too and takes a large pulp from it before giving it back to Viorel.
Then he checks his gear for completeness.
If we have some time left, I will use it to pray for my stalward companion, Tsonjin. I hope that he survived this.
Kenan goes a few meters from the group and prays silently to his Totem.
Hallf the Scaled
Hallf casts Create Water and steps into the shower soaking himself and collecting water in his mouth and cupped palms, repeating the process several times before looking to the new comers and warning,
"I change now," then after awkwardly gathering up all of Yarra's gear, grim faced he transforms taking on the huge form of a tyrannosaur and giving a mournful roar for his lost companion.
DM Jelani
Viorel detects no magical auras other than the party's gear. After a minute or so, everyone is hydrated and has their gear on.
Something is going to happen, but I'm waiting for everyone to check in before it does. I know Abigail is away this weekend and weekends are rough for Sigmund. Once I've heard from Barek, Abigail and Sigmund I'll move this on.
Hallf the Scaled
The tyrannosaur growls and weaves its tiny forearms before saying,
"Illusion cloaked as woman, told us was Crusader so we would open the door of the church outside Fort Nail for it. We were wary but it simply attacked, stunned me, used reverse gravity and savaged us. I think Sigmund see it true. Sigmund?""
Nathaniel.
|
Given that he is himself a giant dinosaur, and blue at that, Nathaniel shows no surprise at communicating with a t-rex. His eyes do go slightly wide at his words, however. "Illusion, woman, reverse gravity... does the name 'Raina' mean anything to you?"
Crissor Salem
Crissor getting geared up and testing the string of his bow growls.
"Raina? By Erastil that was her name, if it even 'was' a her."
He kicks a mound of dirt in frustration and then smiles a little.
"Onto cheerier topics, I believe I can heal the lot of us."
He pulls his holy symbol out and dusts it off to get ready to channel when everyone is in range.
Hallf the Scaled
"You know of this creature Blue One? Nathaniel? And you others, Abbey Gale I have heard but I do not have names for all."
The tyrannosaur rumbles eyes narrowing and tail swishing as its snout twists in a snarl. Nodding at Nathaniel's words Hallf replies,
"I see, then we are one in our desire for vengeance. I wish us to join forces. I would return to Fort Nail and claim it. What of the rest of you?"
Abigail Garrett
Abigail moves slowly, staying behind and taking her cues from Viorel, as they had discussed being tricked before. Threats are often obvious, but not always... she thinks as her vision shifts to reveal auras.
Sitting atop a large feline with a golden shining pelt, Abigail is a tall woman in her fifties with a polished appearance. Her dark hair is tied back in a bun. She has a fine and regal complexion, with high cheekbones and a thin chin. Her dark grey eyes are even and calm, as is her smile, never expanding too far, humble, shy, enticing. She wears a shining breastplate adorned with a great falcon, wings spread, and carries a longspear made of a light shade steel atop a straight ash shaft.
As Viorel relaxes, so does she: "Allies in a forsaken place! Surely this is the work of Erastil, bringing comrades together, uniting us to face the dangers of this world. I am Abigail, and this is Sacha. I can help with your wounds if you let me, but I have little power left in me, by His grace; I can only attend to the weakest." she says as she plays behind the ears of the feline.
I have no more channel until we rest. Not sure whether I'll have time to heal one before something happens. If it is possible, let me know.
Barek Wound-blooded
Barek keeps an eye on the new group, and does not react upon recognizing some of them. He does growl and clench his fists upon hearing about this 'Raina'. "It seems we have a particular enemy in common. One wonders why it left you alive. But then I often wonder how we were able to escape."
Liette d'Argent
"Y'know, I ain't a Calistrian lady,' Liette comments as she rests her hands on her holstered guns, strutting around the reassembled group of other crusaders. "But this sounds like a good time for some ol' fashioned revenge." The gunslinger's attention flicks to Nathaniel, then over to the others.
"Name's Liette d'Argent, this group's tactician and, uh, mundane artillery." A quick look is given to Viorel with a smirk. "Who're you all, since I ain't had the pleasure yet. An' how bad d'you want t'kick some big, angry demon backside?"
Kenan Borjigon
I'm Kenan Borjigon. I'm a passable archer.
DM Jelani
I don't know what's up with Sigmund, but I'm gonna go ahead and move this on. We'll say he's in shock right now, give him the dazed condition and be done with it. If he returns the dazed condition will disappear.
About a minute passes as the groups introduce themselves and the crucifixion victims rehydrate and gear up. Sigmund seems to be in a state of shock. He's just sitting on the ground in front of his cross staring into space. He allows Kenan and Crissor to get him into his armor and silently accepts some water, but then sinks back down into his torpor. That's when the ground tears open in two fifteen foot long chasms. Clouds of black smoke, fiery light and the stench of sulfur precede the expulsion of two eight foot tall, winged, scaled demons. Their vulture like heads rest atop pale, purplish, emaciated, humanoid frames. Dirty, ragged, feathered wings extend back from their shoulders to form nearly twenty foot wide wingspans. Both their hands and feet end in raptor's talons.
The two demons shake off a cloud of loose feathers and some kind of purplish dust, and shriek a challenge to the group of crusaders, ambling forward to attack. Hallf hears a voice in his head. Her voice. "You're alive because it's more fun for me this way. Silly monkey. Heeheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheeeee."

Liette looks visibly nervous around the gnoll, but his demeanor changes everything. Crissor's definitions of his role and duties assail Liette's expectations of gnolls as barbarous slavers and scoundrels. Erastil's name being invoked elicits a smile from her as well, something she never presumed she'd offer a gnoll.
"I take it you're the commander of your team," Liette surmises, once again trying to inject military command structure to something decidedly civilian. "We've a druid of ol' Deadeye with us," Liette notes, nodding back in Abigail's direction. "Though I'm wondering at her age if she should call him young De--"
That's when Liette's conversation is broken by the sudden fissure of the Worldwound and the emergence of two hideous vulture-like demons. Reaching for her revolvers, she hops away from Crissor. "I have the bark skin spell in my armor! Strike it with an open hand to receive it!" Swiftly drawing both of her revolvers, Liette looks first to the Vrock over by Nathaniel, then swiftly changes her focus to the other.
"Vrocks! They're immune to lightning and resist magic!" It's the first thing that comes to mind to declare, breathing in deeply after the warning and focusing her attention on the Vrock's movement patterns, looking for an opening to fire.
Inheritor, guide me. Show me my enemy's weakness, show me their faults and their follies. Guide my aim true and my allies, is repeated in Liette's mind, a mantra and a tactic. Apologies for the delay, getting going now!
Awaking to a nightmare, Sigmund soon succumbs to delirium. Those nearby hear him mumbling, slurring his words to the point where they become unintelligible. He barely registers as his companions dress him, and drinks the water with apathetic autonomy. He is not comatose, but his eyes do not focus on anything in front of him; he stares into some other place, instead. Even the open chasms that spit forth the winged demons do not draw his attention.
With the deceit and crucifixion, Sigmund is re-living his betrayal at the hands of his former fiancee. If he also hears the telepathy, it will snap him back into the present: the woman who betrayed him this time is *here*. Until then he will just delay, dazed.

If you beat a DC 24 Knowledge (Planes) you recognize these as Vrocks. That gives you its demon traits
Immunity to electricity and poison.
Resistance to acid 10, cold 10, and fire 10.
Summon (Sp) Demons share the ability to summon others of their kind, typically another of their type or a small number of less powerful demons.
Telepathy.
Except where otherwise noted, demons speak Abyssal, Celestial, and Draconic.
A demon's natural weapons, as well as any weapon it wields, is treated as chaotic and evil for the purpose of resolving damage reduction.
If you beat a 29 knowledge planes, you know that Vrocks can release spores that grow rapidly in the flesh of their enemies causing damage over time.
Viorel recognizes that these demons are summoned.

An explosion of blood blossoms out from the Vrock's center mass where a bullethole has penetrated its chest, spraying the ground with the blood of demons and sending the bird-like demon staggering back from the force of the impact.
Viorel turns around at the shouted warning. He starts casting his spell imidietly doing his best to keep the horse steady, grateful for the fact that it is trained for war. "BAREK WATCH OUT!" The mage calls out as he launches a spehere of fire behind the demon letting the flames engulf it while leaving the mighty warrior out of the fire's reach. The demon leaps up out of the way of most of the blast, but the fire is so intense that several of its wing feathers ignite, and the flesh on its legs sizzles and blisters.
Hearing Barek growl, Kenan reaches reflexively for 3 arrows from his quiver, makes a small step to get in a better firing position and fires them against Bareks target, hitting the Vrock in his usual tiny triangle. A tiny triangle which blows a hole straight through the gunshot wound already put in the creature's center mass by Liette. The demon's torso collapses and as it begins to flop into a pile on the ground, it dissolves and melts away into burning ash.
Abigail's eyes narrow as she takes in the foes erupting from the ground. Immediately, she feels Sacha under her react and she lets her companion loose as he circles the horses to get to the demon. As he does so, she hums a prayer to keep it safe from harm. The Vrock swipes at Sacha as he approaches but the puma ducks his talons. The lion's teeth flash in the desert sun as he bites at the demon, but the thing's thick hide protects it from the blow.
Hallf studies the creatures before acting trying to discern the nature of the purple dust, but is unable to place the magics going on. Cautious of this demon's trickery he waits to see the results of his comrades actions before making a move.
About to exchange pleasantries with Abigail the intruding flying demons elicits a growl of annoyance from Crissor. At once holds his holy symbol out and prays for the prayer to channel. "Erastil I beseech you to aid me in healing my friends and allies so we may face this darkness!" A burst of gold green light washes over Viorel, Sigmund and Kenan healing them.
Hallf summons a young ankylosaurus which charges the vrock in front of it using the bone club upon the end of its tail to overcome the taller creatures reach. It's tail smashes down upon the side of the Vrock's head causing the creature to stagger dazed by the jarring force of the blow!
The druid then stalks forward himself towards the demon all the while scanning for signs of their true foe who he knows must be near... "That b~$!# Demon spoke in my head, she may be near. She thinks to play with us!"
The remaining Vrock reels under the force of the dinosaur's blow, momentarily dazed. Hallf hears the voice in his head again, "Sorry to do you like this again, but you're just too dangerous." Then aloud he hears a word he doesn't understand from behind him somewhere. His body locks up rigid just as it did in the church.

Hallf, you're stunned for five rounds. Anyone who can beat an 8 perception with a minus 5 penalty for the sounds of battle heard a strange word be spoken from somewhere behind Hallf, and then sees Hallf go rigid.
You guys are up again.

Hallf's will batters fruitlessly against the prison of his mind and body again, but at least he has an agent in play in the form of his summoned dinosaur - though without direction it is little more than a dumb beast targeted at his foes. He recalls vaguely having heard of a ring that can be used to counter a certain spell and wonders if he should seek out such a thing...
The ankylosaurus bellows as it swings its bone club of a tail at its bizarre foe again, striking home, but failing to daze the Vrock which has apparently readied itself and avoids being putout of action this time.

Round 2
Reacting to the same voice a moment later Viorel turns his attention to the crusader in dinosaur form. "The Vrocks are summoned here, someone is behind this, possbily invisible! Behind Hallf" As the mage tries to convey the information he pulls out a bag of powder from his back pack before starting to cast his spell, trying to force the magic down from the shaman with his own arcane energies.

Dispel Check DC 11+CL, 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15 :/ Yeah pretty sure power word stun is not done with CL 4
Now using the powder to reveal invisible creatures, what would be the mechnaics for that? I mean assuming right squere and there actually being something there.

If you beat a 20 you notice that the word was spoken from the east (right) side of the canyon, somewhere behind (to the right of on map) Hallf. Nothing appears to be over there except for the shrubs/cacti, some stones, a scorpion scuttling away from the noisy fight, a lizard trying to crawl/hide beneath a stone, a couple of small beetles trundling along oblivious to the larger world around them. Ah, and a vulture perched up there on the lip of the canyon.
Liette d'Argent
Out of curiosity, did the Vrocks not do anything? I can't find their actions anywhere. If that's the case, and the Vrocks are just standing around, I think I'd like to try a Will save from Liette to disbelieve an illusion. She's heard the story about the demon appearing as a woman, so something like this being unreal -- especially now -- seems possible. Y/N?
