No. Originally, if you came this way, you would have found the tree already dead. I used the tornado as an opportunity to let the characters witness the tree's death. It was inevitable.
That's sad.

Valjoen, could you give me a random language that could be explained as having come from that geist essence along with the familiarity with alchemy?Infernal. Alchemy was developed by Elanil, the Joyous. You can read more about it here
As for UMD, I like your ideas. You could always use an essence. Putting it on the Ioun stone, would basically grant Ruza a knowledge base to offer assistance. I'll look to weave in some other options for you.
Neat, Infernal it is.
Now I just need to get some Ampoules to make the UMD thing work--and keep Niyut the Ever-Hungering from draining them of essence :p.

My usual unlimited internet source just got unexpectedly cut, so I'll have to make do with a slower, metered source for an unknown amount of time. Among other things, my post rate will drop to twice a day, at the most.

The sort where the cable companies don't give a rat's naked tail about your other bills, just the one you have with them :p.

Same here, this sort of quiet is quite unusual from him.

Sorry. work took a turn for the worse yesterday. I'll try to get an update up tonight. It's been a busy last few weeks for me, and the pace of the game has slowed... due to me. We'll get it picked up again. asap.
Niyut
I am sorry to hear that. I am just happy that you are okay.
Gruskorb
If Gruskorb makes it within 20' of the ground and sees there is danger to Niyut/Malz, he will drop to the floor, almost certainly using acrobatics for no damage. It would be OoC for him to do so otherwise though.
I hope this fight doesn't bug anyone.
Niyut
I think he cast fly on you, Gruskorb, although he called you Garidan and he misspelled Truk's name.
Gruskorb
GM, please assume Gruskorb uses the flight and lands in a sensible place if he sees the situation at hand if possible (20' away from the bugs opposite from Niyut/Malz). Given I don't know the beasts' reactions, I'm not sure if placing him in a particular spot would be god-modding.
Valjoen_GM
Map is up. Didn't realize the link was broken.
Gruskorb, the cavern is high enough to fly over them if you'd like without an AOO. You have 60' flight, so you can get to the far side of Garidan's ant, but not Niyut's.
Niyut
Garidan, your sister can move independently of you, correct? I would really like those shadows.
Garidan Vissir
Garidan, your sister can move independently of you, correct? I would really like those shadows.
Whatever gave you that idea? She's confined to an ioun torch, and thus limited to the same range of movement--orbiting whoever has possession of the stone, that is--that an ioun stone can manage, though she can conciously direct her path within that restricted range. Really, I'm suprised that Valjoen lets me tamper with the light levels it emits, though it's probably due to being such a minor effect on overall gameplay.
So I can dim the lights down until the ants, or Niyut, are in shadow. But that's about it.
Niyut
Oh, I thought I say it move about investigating things on its own. Dim the lights please around Niyut. In terms of general battle protocol, it would be helpful if you could keep dim light on hand at the beginning of the battle so that I can use Mirror Image. Since I can use them as swift actions, it could have prevented me being hurt last round.
Garidan Vissir
Right now, Niyut is in dim light; the torch's area of normal light is--if Garidan's escape and subsequent 5-foot step took place--just 5 feet around his new position. Since the dim light is another 10 feet beyond that, Niyut falls right into the shadowed spot (if her own escape attempt and step succeeded, of course).

I will be mostly unavailable this entire week. I am volunteering as a camp counselor and the only free time we get is a little bit in the late evening before we go to sleep. I may be able to slip in some small posts during that time, but I wouldn't count on much. Apologies for the short notice, and please DMPC me as needed.
Valjoen_GM
Sorry everyone. I wasn't able to get connected to the boards Sunday or Monday. Not sure if it was me or Paizo. Anyone else have issues?
Garidan Vissir
Nope, no issues on my end. But then, I haven't been on as often as usual myself.
Garidan Vissir
It's those damn goblins that are to blame. Every night, after the last Paizo employees clock out, the little bastards ride the connection into the ground with their MOBA tournaments and Twitch streams.
Truk'tosh
The forums have been a nightmare for the last couple days and it seems to be region-based.
This is the first time I've been able to get online since Saturday.
Gruskorb
Appreciated efforts by all; I thought a few of us were goners there!
Regarding Gruskob's necklace/its essences: I haven't forgotten them. Rather, I was trying to discern what sort of item the talisman would be. While the essences have their own properties, I'm thinking the tower of necromancy and the chimera sinew can provide interesting flavor. If you're open to it, GM, I would like to have the item take on a bit of forceful personality of its own, perhaps not sentient in its own right - at least not yet - but pushing Gruskorb in emotional, unconscious ways. At the start, I'm thinking the item might be sensitive to those just on either side of death's door given some osmosis of the atmosphere in the tower where its starting components were kept.
Gruskorb wanted the mandible to add that "victory" to his memento...
Valjoen_GM
Works for me. Do you see this "sensitivity" affecting game mechanics or just RP?
Niyut
Are we doing a full rest? If so, I'll bond with a Life-aspected spirit to get lesser restoration. Otherwise, I'll use a scroll on Gruskorb.

Mostly RP. Maybe something akin to Deathwatch later along the line with an essence or something, but it will cause him to ponder the differences in the world with the recently-deceased or soon-to-be.

Up to you guys.

Looking over some stuff under the campaign tab, I notice that Garidan's armor lacks the innate values. Here they are:
Innate: AC +6, Max Dex +5, -1 ACP, 15% Arcane Failure.

Niyut posted twice, but the page break might obscure the longer post.

Time for me to start putting some serious thought into how I want to enhance that ioun torch, and to that end, I'll throw out some ideas I've come up with so Valjoen can plot out what sort of essences Garidan will need to collect.
1) Considering the torch's base purpose, and how Valjoen has let me play with that to some extent, it's a pretty good idea to grant the torch further ability to generate and manipulate light. Here's a few things I'd like to be able to do, at will for the effect that aren't explicitly magic in origin.
- Increase the existing area of the light currently generated, with a commensurately larger dim zone;
- Refocuss the light from a torch's area to a bullseye lantern's cone;
- Control other, nonmagical light sources at varying distances--make them brighter or dimmer (with an adjusted consumption of their fuel/burn time), change their colors, even extinguish them;
- Generate magic light and darkness effects of various potency, such as dancing lights, darkness, daylight, faerie fire, and sunbeam (to name just a few that I can recall from memory);
- Control magical light sources (ioun torches, everburning torches, and so on) in the same manner as nonmagical sources mentioned previously;
- Manipulate/interfere with magic light and darkness effects cast by others, such as enhancing or reducing their effect.
2) Give 'Ruza the ability to interact with the world somewhat via minor spells like prestidigitation and unseen servant. Further enhance her with actual skill ranks so she can make aid another checks.
3) Grant the ioun torch--which is basically an ioun stone reject--ioun stone powers that Garidan can make use of.

I already have plotted out her base magical abilities as your bonded item. These, however, are some great ideas for add-ons as you imbue her with essences.

The torch becomes bonded once the first essence is added, right? I can't actually recall whether or not that's the case.

True, but everyone's third bonded item was inherently magical to begin with. So, I've given the torch some magical properties, but Ruza hasn't discovered them yet.

Ohhhh! Well that's going to be riding my curiousity right into the ground now, lol.

@gruskorb: Truk'tosh asked you about the mysterious locked box he found can you examine it and ask the druid about it?

Valjoen_GM wrote:Pending particulars of conversation with Siv.Essences...
Gruskorb - has 3 unassigned EE, one each from the Bone Golem, Tupilaq and Huntmaster Ghoul, & an unassigned Earth Essence from the Tupilaq. Indicated that he's saving essences for his necklace. You'll have time to complete the basics of your necklace during this rest stop if you want. Just give me some context in the gameplay thread.
Halting in order as necessary depending on time/level restrictions, Gruskorb will be imbuing his necklace with the following essences in the following order:
1. Earth Essence (Tupilaq)
2. EE (Huntmaster Ghoul)
3. EE (Bone Golem)
Sorry, my edit about the box must not have made it. Posting now....
Valjoen_GM
What base effects are you looking for the Ethereal Essences?
Options are:
Imbue Item (unlimited)
..Deflection Bonus (AC): 1 ethereal essence per +1, compounding
..Insight Bonus (any): 1 ethereal essence per +1, compounding
..Luck Bonus (any): 1 ethereal essence per +1, compounding
..Morale Bonus (any, except Str, Dex or Con): 1 ethereal essence per +1, compounding
..Spell/Feat/Etc. Effect:
....1 ethereal essence: up to 2,000 gp
....2 ethereal essence: 2,001 to 8,000 gp
....3 ethereal essence: 8,001 to 16,000 gp
....4 ethereal essence: 16,000 to 32,000 gp
....+1 ethereal essence: per 16,000 gp over 32,000 gp
As for the Earth Essence:
The necklace gains +5 Acid resistance. (Secondary Effect) 1/day you gain: Seek Target (Su) You can smell or taste a drop of blood, lock of hair, or other portion of a creature's body as a standard action. For the duration of the effect, you constantly knows what direction that creature is located in, and gains a +20 insight bonus on all Perception checks made to locate the creature. The effect lasts 1 hour per character level.
Also, you still have:
..Unassigned
....(EE5) Bone Golem - saving
Niyut
If I can make a suggestion, Gruskorb, take the Earth Essence into yourself. The base benefit +5 of X Resistance is lackluster on an object.
Gruskorb
I love the map!
+1
And my apologies, Niyut is correct; I'd misread the category for the particular earth essence benefit and would like to have Gruskorb self-absorb it; depending how this goes, Gruskorb may/not use the remaining EE on the necklace afterwards.
Garidan Vissir
I think Garidan's air support trick has potential, but could use a little improvement. Malthazir, would be you be willing to learn the web spell and make scrolls of that spell for Garidan to use?
Valjoen_GM
@Gruskorb
- No problem on the Earth Essence. I'll apply it to your body. Still need to know what bonus/effect you want for the other two EE's.
Valjoen_GM
Sorry for the delay today. I'll get a post up in the morning to get us started.

I know that sometimes it doesn't update you when I post close in time to you, but I want to make sure you saw it. :-)

If that is the same gnoll archer who attacked us after we left East Gate, I'm incredibly impressed with either her tracking abilities which even teleportation couldn't evade or the luck of the nascent gnoll empire.
