I was thinking about doing something way different and trying out a different kind of race...more precisely creating something akin to the dragon born in D&D 4th edition. I wanted something strong that could do a decent amount of damage....but I kept thinking I didn't want to do something ordinary so....I'll have to work on it...and just see how it goes.
I don't want my character to overshadow anyone else. I was thinking abandoned shortly after birth? It would have to be a really good story.....I was even thinking about playing the character as a dude....but, I'm not sure how that would work since I can't seem to contain my nature and keep myself from bleeding through into my characters.....they'd be very self aware and in touch with a lot of feelings and crap and I just don't really see that working.
Thoughts?

Working on my concept now, usually start with a feel of the character, then a visual before they fully develop. Concept is a shaman/(ess). Once I pick a primary spirit everything else will come together.
@ Phaedra Rose. With the Race building, the Breath weapon option can be built up with additional race points. If you make an alternate racial trait that gives 1/2 Race Point per level instead of a skill point or hit point, you can have a breath weapon that upgrades, like does an extra d6 every 2 levels.

So here's some background info on the world and the game:
The country of Camaden is divided into five city-states with several villages and hamlets occupying the outlying areas. The capital of Camaden is Kalbern, located on the eastern coast. Kalbern is known for its vigorous trade and large presence of the merchant class. As a result, mercantilism is the main philosophy of Camaden, even beyond theism. Trade Princess Fiella Strombeck rules Kalbern, strictly but fairly. Though the gods play a large role in the world at large, Camaden is fairly secular.
Aravel, the second largest city of Camaden, is home to the elves. It is located in a heavily forested region of Camaden. Latherian Greenstep, an elf steeped in mystery, is the ruler of Aravel. Many travel to study in Aravel because of their world-class institutions. Aravel has the Silverspar Bardic College, the Goldleaf College of Philosophy and the Brasspin University of Sciences and Alchemy. While the names might denote a ranking of each area of study, Aravelians hold each in equal esteem.
Luth, home to the dwarves, dominates the mountains of west Camaden. A large tower is the seat of the dwarf king, Warrafin of the Iron. In stereotypical fashion, Luth is a mining town and the dwarves there are unmatched in their skill of crafting and appraisal. The phrase "In a Luthian's Eyes" refers to one's ability to see the true worth of something or someone.
Ganz, a city on the southern plains, is known for its temples and military might. Most of Camaden's warriors hail from Ganz. While their military force is the greatest in Camaden, General Alpert is a methodical and contemplative man. Though he has his own ideals, the general is content to maintain the status quo. Most religions flourish in Ganz as the Ganzites are religiously tolerant. Ganz maintains a healthy population due to its relief programs and constant employment opportunities.
Tull, the last of the city-states, is definitely not the least. The Ollison Academy of Wizardry is Tull's seat of power and its defining feature. Ollison is quite liberal in its teachings and no school of magic is prohibited. Of course, there is the occasional issue of walking corpses getting loose, but the headmaster, Diemos, is proactive about keeping Tull safe.
The game itself takes place in and around the village of Vinse. Once, several decades ago, an adventurer named Valentin Ironwolf erected a keep on a bluff near the forests surrounding Vinse. Ironwolf fought against the goblins and orcs of the area, but was unable to finish his keep. The goblins and orcs banded against him and slaughtered Ironwolf and his family, before turning on each other. Now, villagers are disappearing from the area and trade has ground to a halt. The keep has been referred to as Valentin's Folly or the Shadowed Keep and something foreboding is occurring within its walls.
---
Hopefully, this helps you round out your stories a bit. You can be a relative of Ironwolf's, a villager of Vinse or come from one of the city states. I'm rather lax about your origins this time around. I will work on deities in a little bit.

I've tweaked the background to allow for my oracle to end up where ever she needs to be, in this case, Vinse.

Okay, so with a little help...I think I've pretty much got it figured out what I want to do. I'll be a half orc, blood rager, with the draconic blood line.
That way it's not too overpowered, and I can gradually progress into her different powers without totally freaking out. It had to make sense to me, so thanks for everyones input.
She won't know anything about her parents though, since I'm planning on having her abandoned shortly after birth...but I'll work on all that when we're off work. I have an extra night off this week because I thought we were gonna have to go out to my parents to run them around....but, the doc cleared my dad to drive....so at least we don't have to deal with them. He just can't drive long distances, so I don't have to worry about them coming out here either.
Now if only I could convince my idiotic family out here to go out to mom and dads for christmas so I don't have to put up with ANY of them....that would be GREAT!!
If I could get the time off, I wouldn't even stay the hell in Arkansas for the holidays and get as far away from my damn family as possible. I hate hate hate the holidays and all their damn drama. I'm so totally over it it's not funny.
Okay, sorry for the tirade. I'm better now.

So...I'm thinking when she was a kid how tough life must have been for her....and tantrums even less fun for the the ones on the receiving end of them considering she probably didn't look very friendly at all if she got too mad.
I guess she'll just be grateful that her parents simply abandoned her and didn't drown her in a river right off the bat. LOL

Now that is the character for whom This image seems appropriate

Derika |

Except she's not green...not really. With the light green from her orc heritage and the blue from her draconic heritage....her skin is more like a turquoise color...not super scaly yet...but, she has some nasty claws when she wants em' if that halps with the picture finding.
I was really thinking of trying to play a dude....but, I really don't think I would be good at pulling it off. Henry even found a picture for exactly that....but he said it was kinda stupid looking anyways.
I like the fact that she grows into her powers...that makes sense to me. It would be too freaky if she just woke up one day and was all like, whoa...I got wings. She don't know anything about her history since she was just dumped off at a temple and left there. No one even knows who her parents are...so, waking up and finding one's self with all this stuff at once would be a bit much.
I'll look around too....why do I always have to have the craziest looking characters? LOL It makes finding an appropriate avatar a real pain in the butt.
I'm not quite done with her yet, but we'll be working on her while we're off too. I can really begin to see her development ya know? And I'm getting excited....
Here is the name and Avatar I picked though...I'm not totally settled on the Avatar....but, I was having a really hard time finding something that I really liked or fit with the character.

Derika |

Sorry....I just got up and haven't had time to work on anything. I barely finished buying her equipment before I laid down and then slept fitfully until about 10pm thanks to the dog and some totally freaky dreams I was having.
I'll try to get things sorted so I can post something....if not tonight than tomorrow. I feel like I need to have the background complete before I really post anything substantial. I have to know what motivates her and so forth and haven't figured that out yet.

Derika |

Sorry we were gone for so long....it took us longer than expected to do the laundry at his moms house and then I had to sit and listen to her talk out of her ass about stuff that she knows nothing about....so when we did get back I needed some time to wind down and relax.

Derika |

Okay, I'm up....but Henry is still sleeping. I'm off tonight though, which is nice. It means I have another night to rest up before going back to the grind. Maybe my shoulder will feel better by then? Anyways, hope everyone is having a good day.

I need a little bit, talk amongst yourselves. I gotta make sweet and sour chicken for us. Minus all the batter and frying and I'm using EVOO to fry the pieces of chicken in....so should be pretty good. I'm trying a new cooking sauce packet....so we'll see how it goes. Wish me luck.
