You think there is some kind of fungal infestation which has displaced all the local flora (and the fauna as a consequence). It is not native to this area, and probably came from the darklands or maybe another plane. It's certainly not a natural occurrence in any area of the surface you are aware of. It probably has a root source somewhere about.

Luckily it dislikes salt water or it likely would have infested the whole large island, and who knows what else.

Some distance away Janzadar grabs a rock or shell of good size and throws it on the island, preventing surprises.


It lands with a rather soft thud onto the carpet of fungus. Nothing weird happens.

There's little in the way of landmarks. It's pretty much a mushroom wasteland. To the west is the wreck of a ship on the rocks by the shore. To the east is a rocky promontory a bit offshore rising up 50'.

Jazadar moves towards the wreck.


Having headed to the west, Ivar sees the wreck on the rocks moving toward it, keeping an keen eye out for anything unusual. 'Nothing to worry about there.' Have convinced himself the boat was clear of any danger he climbs aboard., looking for any clues as to where it came from.

Ahead of you, between you and the wreck, you see a group of three humanoids. They are rather odd looking at a distance, and they appear to have noticed you, but then any color but gray really stands out in this landscape.

They start moving towards you with purpose. They carry spears, but are rather short.


'Probably should stop, don't want to look too threatening.' Ivar lifts his left fist shoulder height in the air, signaling to stop. Keeping his axe resting on his right shoulder he calls out to the approaching pigmies; "Stop there, that's close enough. Do you speak Taldane?"


Colonel, I´m sure in the Shackles they have spells to salvage ships, i know there´s necromancy to crew ships! Unfortunately that´s nothing i ever learnd though.

Lalali takes a good look at them, then shouts: Those aren´t people! That´s plants! Plantpeople! Kill them with fire! only to notice that she didn´t prepare any spells involving fire.

Acid splash: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 191d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 on the nearest one which is a good target.


Ivar is able to determine that the DR tends to resist piercing. His axe should work just fine.

Janzadar, seeing that his magic has effect, keeps shooting lighting.

And Jan manages to kill steal the last one before Ivar even swings his axe again.

Swinging his axe in an arch Ivar prepares to attack the little green guy again, then sees the a bolt of lightning fry the little attacker, Smiling "Nice shot Janzadar, frying the little buggers works for me." Looking at his crewmates, he asks "I wonder if the vegepygmies have anything to do with this island being fungus covered."

Ivar takes a minute to search the little spear throwers, then proceeds to the wreck with the intent of inspecting it.

take 20 (26) on perception checking the little guys, if Ivar can get to the wreck he would take 20 (26) on perception on the wreck


A close inspection of the corpse doesn't really reveal much. All they have are their spears. While they do appear to be fungus based creatures, that doesn't really tell you if they are the cause or the result of the fungus infestation.

You continue to head towards the shipwreck. It lies a bit offshore among the rocks.

An ancient wreck lies wedged between a pair of rocks here, yet despite its age, the ruined sailing ship at first seems in relatively good condition. The ship has no color to its lines, and is completely covered in a layer of soft gray mold. Even its sails appear fully intact, although what hangs from the spars is not canvas but sheets of thick, pale fungus. Several thick ropes of fungus connect the ship’s upper deck to the island almost like crude rope bridges.

It seems possible to get over there via the 'rope bridges' instead of by swimming.

'may as well get it over with.' Ivar nods in agreement with Malok, and begins crossing by using one of the 'rope bridges' "I'll give the rope bridge a try I guess."

drbuzzaard: do you need any rolls? If Ivar makes it across he will give the others a thumbs up and wait for them before he explores the ship in detail.


It is a fairly easy climb check at DC 5 to get across on the fungal ropes.

You cannot actually fall unless you have a negative climb number and roll low.

He waits behind for the others to explore the "ship".


You think the fungus is not really fungus, but oddly colored Twizzlers.


Ivar has a skill check of 5 for climb so I'd assume he was able to cross ok, of course he would stop and grab a handful of Twizzlers on the way across, is there a negative adjustment for only using one hand due to having Twizzlers in the other?


Only if you start to eat the Twizzlers, otherwise he is able to sashay across in style without rolling.


Lalali would take a good look at that fungus as well before trusting herself on such a fungusbridge...

Give it a try Ivar. I might follow. Even though it´s utterly disgusting. I´m getting a bit worried wether staying too long here is really healthy. Everything seems to be a fungus. The same fungus. Might be a very aggressive one. Perhaps those who attacked us were once human as well, who knows.


It appears to be a related fungus, and probably strong enough to support the load of a person climbing on it.

You also think your feet might be starting to itch.


After climbing off of the rope bridge-like thing Ivar looks around the fungus covered boat.
