I just wish that if you were playing a summoner, please give instructions for your summons instead of summoning, then having the GM bot all the attacks. Hey, I have lots to copy and paste on phone too...
*makes whiney noise.* I should get cookies for botting summons...chocolate chip, preferably.
That was more on the lantern archons bit. Leopards, I understand work. But you could have run the attacks at the same time you ran yours, right?
Hirah Cheran
I probably could have (for the Lanturn Archons), but considering that post was made at midnight before a 5AM start for work, its very likely it just slipped my mind and I was probably focused on getting my ghost touch damage down first. Also remember, I tried giving instructions to summons last time (pre-dungeon), and it didn't go down so well :(
Anyway, I didn't plan on my summoning this round triggering off the scout. I kinda predicted they would all barge into the room all together but in hindsight, that probably wasn't their intelligent play. Anyway, I'll fix this by having the Leopards run around the corner / corridor, have them Smite, full attack the first thing in visibility. They probably then get instantly wiped out, but then I can hold/delay/ready to summon another batch when these bad guys actually do full engage as a team / group, and then I can try and put the Leopards behind them (which I'm kinda aiming for to prevent space taken up on the front line for Einar and Hirah to move. If they come in separately and not as a massive bullrush through the door, hey, thats all good too, we still outnumber them.
Leopards: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
There, no real loss.
Also I'm assuming that the blue skull thing has see invis active right?
GM Mort
Whenever you send something out of your sight, if you want things to be done, you need to be specific. Especially if the creature in question isn't too bright..i.e < 10 int.
You asked me to “delaying summoning of those Leopards until I can see the enemy clustered together, so I can get them all full attacking from the get go, ideally summoning them behind an enemy escape route.”
I got the impression you wanted to trigger to prevent the scout from escaping – le sigh - too many fiddly bits.
So what do you want to do with your leopards now? And yourself. I am NOT putting you too far ahead, since there is no way for you to know if anything has see invisibility up, and part of your orders were - not to place you in any danger from unforseen circumstances. Going too far in front could possibly put you in danger from unforseen circumstances, which as per my orders, I cannot do.
Slide 11 for you to view.
GM Mort
Also sorry - please retcon the invisibility spell, replace it with another action. You're under faerie fire and sickened for another 8 min or so. Invisibility would not work.
That's what I get for just reading botting instructions and following them mechanically...
Hirah Cheran
Curious as to how "waiting till the enemy is clustered together so I can get them all" isn't specific or clear enough but w.e, not going to argue this.
I'm sending my Leopards up the corridor, smiting, and attacking. Yes, they will probably die, yes, they will burn resources from them and probably deal some damage. Yes, I don't mind, because I'll have to dismiss them anyway to summon Leopards again so they might as well do some damage
Furthermore, there is no action to replace Invisibility, so don't worry about it. In future, I think I'll just not leave bot instructions and we can wait until I get home for the day. Just going to create less issues.
I'm happy waiting for them to (eventually) advance and for Hirah to stay in the room. They either move up and I get to summon something behind them, or they keep waiting us out in which case sickness / fairie fire expires. I'm happy either way.
GM Mort
You're up anyway - if you are doing anything or not doing anything - please state. For your summoning things behind them, you need to be within 45 ft of their back. As per summon monster.
GM Mort
K. Delay is fine. I'll just slowly need to work through those cats. Gah. Cats.
Mr. Whiskers
If Hirah delays that means she acts after someone else's action -- she can't interrupt. It gives her a full round of actions, but only between other's full round actions.
Ready is what allows someone to interrupt another action. It uses a standard action to allow you to do an action that interrupts someone else. Most common use would be an archer readying to shoot a caster as they attempt to cast. I've also seen martials use it to move up next to a caster as they start to cast.
I've seen a lot of people confuse the two.
Generally, I have only seen delay as being useful at the beginning of the first round. If someone is expecting a buff from a caster they can delay until after the buff goes off.
---
Too bad my bluff skill isn't higher. We could probably draw them in with a good bluff asking how long until the looting of the room is done.
GM Mort
There's no further saves. Once you get hit is a one-shot thing that lasts until the duration(fairly short) is over.
Mr. Whiskers
Reread pyrotechnics.
So, since it requires line of sight can we avert our eyes for a bonus? Sort of like holding your hand in the way to get rid of the glare of the sun?
I'm surprised by the raw number of Pyrotechnics spells cast.
Also, shouldn't Silyzil need to make the save since it require LOS for the spell...
GM Mort
I did make the save -Silyzil will. The first time she was out of the 120 ft radius. Counted it carefully. The frost giant closed its eyes so wasn't affected.
Mr. Whiskers
So Frosty is blind each round she casts?
Also, can we avert eyes or similarly get a bonus on the save by not looking at the frost giant's torch?
GM Mort
Frosty will be blind each round she casts, because he no likes fireworks. With averting eyes, let me check out forums.
GM Mort
Looked around - there's really very little about pryotechnics, or visual spell evasion(Glitterdust and the ilk) except by closing of eyes. Anything else is considered houserules already.
The frost giant's torch is put out by the pryotechnics attempt.
I'm thinking - if I do put an advert gaze for visual spells, what would be the effect if the creatures closed their eyes on their turn(since they would probably fail the save against glitterdust), so that they can take their full attacks with their eyes open on their turns.
It'd make better sense then failing the glitterdust save, be blind on their attack round and not their attack round.
Yeah sort of looking at game balance kind of issues here.
Einar 'Kinslayer' Bjornson
I saw on the map where the giant was at the end of his round, before they acted, Einar would have known where the giant was before they acted, he assumed the giant would be moving toward him. So he was stabbing where he thought the giant would have to move through to get to him. Thus the attacks with the pole arm. I realize that's not exactly how combat works, but if either hit we might have come to some sort of arrangement.
Also the previous Giant was armed with a two handed axe which could strike from 10 ft away.
I'm afraid both would have missed even if the positioning was right.
Now about the haste attack. Can Einar delay that attack until he learns where the Giant is?
Could he drop the glaive and use a natural attack? or five ft step?
GM Mort
You can't delay but you can 5 ft in between full attacks. If you wanted to attack with your maw, you also could but you would take -5(and also natural attack would deal half str mod) for using manufactured and natural weapons in the same round.
I cant let you use claws even if you free action drop glaive because it's going to set some really weird precedents. I.e the part on, I take my full manufactured weapon attacks, then I drop my manufactured weapons and make my whole slew of natural attacks.
God forbid if you do it as a 4-armed gargoyle, which is definitely possible once you play with all those monstrous physique spells.
You need to complete all your attacks this round though, so you cant delay/ready once you have taken part of your turn.
GM Mort
Hirah could point out there's something down there with acute senses, but what's down there, she can't really see the giant in question.
The sequence would be: Mr Whiskers and Hirah see giant move halfway, stop. Grishelmuk touches giant, party hears it coming closer, but doesn't see anything. Hirah thinks there's something beside Einar, but can't really see what it is.
Hirah Cheran
All perception checks based on sight automatically fail. I guess I still have hearing, touch, smell etc etc but I'll probably need full vision to eventually get the rundown on the giant and then relay that. Which should be fairly soon as soon as we roll into R3. If I'm no longer blind now GM, then let me know, so that I can make a correct action. I'm pretty sure that its_now_that I get my vision back, but I'v learnt not to assume anything before jumping right in.
GM Mort
After Mr Whiskers, its all the bad guys. Those actions I took were all AOOs.
Greta is being a nice flanking buddy to Geist, I suppose.
Right you are about blindness.
GM Mort
Greataxe, PA, flanking: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (13) + 17 = 30
dmg: 3d6 + 19 ⇒ (5, 5, 4) + 19 = 33
Greataxe, PA, flanking: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22
dmg: 3d6 + 19 ⇒ (3, 6, 5) + 19 = 33
O' rly? One was + 17, the other + 12. The damage total happened to be the same.
But I mean if you want to correct my maths, I admit, I'm not perfect..I can make mistakes too. But yes, a nice tally of your AC would be nice, thx.
GM Mort
My BF showed me that Owl and I was tickled! Yeah, I get tickled easily. Me and me whimsical sense of humor.
Hirah Cheran
Sorry Einar, I used every action I had available to me, and still couldn't kill it off quickly enough :(
I don't know if your Blood Deflection ability turns a hit into a miss (immediate action), but its worth checking.
Hirah Cheran
Anything stopping us from yelling a warning as the blow comes through? Or are we not doing out of the box thinking.
GM Mort
No. There was nothing you can could do after you declared your last batch of actions.
GM Mort
Just a FYI - Time does pass when counting against the clock for a bag of holding.
Mr. Whiskers
Unguent of timelessness makes it pass much more slowly.
Mr. Whiskers
I'm willing to go either way.
We haven't met nor do we know where Jadrenka is, so I think more IC questions are needed.
Also, I'm at an anime con this weekend so expect limited posting from me.
GM Mort
Ask away IC. Players need to push plot for things to get done. Einar was always pushing plot, but now he's dead, someone will have to do it, and I don't care who.
Though I don't mind having some time this afternoon to...handle Einar's affairs.
Got it on the con.
GM Mort
Honestly guys, is it really so hard to have a conversation with an NPC(hell - I'm not even asking for diplo rolls) or even decide to haul your sorry @sses to Vurnin on foot?
I'll tell you continuing in Artosa will be an unmitigated disaster since you'll be running on 3 instead of 4(and I won't be making adjustments), and no there are no raise dead/reincarnate scrolls on the mod loot table, nor do I care to insert one(why should I - when the mod has already provided the means of dealing with it).
Not to mention it's unfair to Einar since he doesn't get to participate in the rest of the book, even should you manage it on 3 people.
Hirah Cheran
We can talk in greater detail with the NPC, I just don't want you suddenly springing a "lol now roll diplomacy" when I have jack in it, and Mr Whisker's isn't here to roll it. No-one is seriously considering pushing onwards into Artosa (or at least I got that feeling from Mr Whiskers and myself), but we do want to handle this conversation with this NPC carefully precisely because there are only three of us, if it goes south. Considering we are (probably) going to make a request for her to help out (considering we helped her with her mess) I think a diplo roll is probably going to come up sooner rather than later. Still, if you want to havewave that...
GM Mort
I'll handwave it, or let you use Crummock's/ Mr Whisker's diplo rolls.
You know, you could have...asked right from the start?
Hirah Cheran
There's no reason to think you would handwave it - its not like this has happened before? Less risky for me to assume it wont happen then assume it will and then get screwed over.
GM Mort
I don't generally make you roll diplo checks to yak with NPCs that often. You got most of the info from Ratibor without diplo checks, talking to Solveig also no diplo checks...
Einar talked to Barett without diplo checks too...
