Game Mastered Modules

I would like to see modules come to life in 3D with a real Game Master behind it. You would buy a ticket through the micro-transaction store and then show up at a specific time, just like you would with buying a ticket to the theatre. A module could run anywhere from a couple hours to upwards of five hours. The module would have only so many slots, but if there was enough interest more GMs could be used or more time slots made available. These adventures would include unique treasure and possibly titles upon successful completion. Nothing overpowering, don't want pay to win.

What are your thoughts?

I think that is a wonderful idea, Richter. I suspect they may already be headed in that general direction because one of the perks for Alpha players is supposed to be that they will be asked to play the roles of GM-directed monsters in in-game 'events'.

Sorta gives 'I'll be seeing you' added meanings...

I like the idea, but look at it from a business perspective. They'll have to have artists, authors, even possibly programmers for any special scripting. In order to justify the cost there would have to be dozens if not hundreds of people buying each module, and that would just be to break even. I think it can still be done, but there would have to be some requirements. First, I think the GM would have to be an established Paizo GM, like pretty much any of the people working on the superdungeon for the kickstarter. This would be to maintain quality control, so that people would buy the module. You'd also have to host multiple sessions, and pay that GM accordingly, so the "event" would have to last most likely weeks with 1-3 sessions per week of the same material over and over but with different players.

It's much more cost effective to just put a dungeon into the game and charge a microtransaction for that content if it's special or costs more than usual to put in. If it's a normal dungeon it should just be included since there wouldn't be special scripting or models beyond what you would expect to have to add periodically to the game.

Still, if you really wanted to make a super special event that you could buy into where there was an actual celebrity GM I think that could be something that would make some money and be worth it and fun for the people buying into it.

Yes I think there could be special GM run events such as these. Tickets per player could cost between $20-$100, and the events could run between 1-4 hrs.

Speaking of the superdungeon: I sure hope it isn't a one-use dungeon that can never be run again.

I guess the idea of players creating PvE contend (like quests, contend, dungeons, etc...) should be nice, for advanced development. I experiment this in Neverwinter MMO, and it was amazing.

Maybe adding some GMcontrolled monsters vs characters players (extreme well balanced) could add a nice way to PvP-Dungeon Crawler style...

For the bussiness perpective, I won't be mad to pay a diferent subscription only for GMing mine or GW's contend...

But again this is an advanced idea for further development the game way in the future...

I think in general I would rather not do GM run events. If the players aren't creating epic content as emergent behavior we're not doing our design jobs right.

That's different from saying there couldn't be epic content created by the game engine. There certainly should be.

I think GM run events prove in the long run to be things that cause a lot more problems than they solve. They tend to introduce all sorts of concerns about misconduct, they often cater to a very small portion of the players, and they also often misfire as the players creatively out think the plans of the developers in realtime.

Yeah, this was a thread necro from 17 months ago. I'm fairly sure Ryan said that in the interim.
