Kelvor of the Shundar-Quah
|
Kelvor advances to the turn in the hallway, checking what's around the corner.
Tarrow
|
Concerned about the plants...
Tarrow whispers to Kelvor, "Let's go slow and keep a good look out toward that next door, I don't like all these dead plants.."
Actively perceiving as we head toward that next door.
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Kelvor of the Shundar-Quah
|
Kelvor agrees, silently, with Tarrow. He slows and begins paying particularly close attention to the hall and its oddities.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Armun Govil
|
Armun follows, trailing behind somewhat. He also keeps an active lookout for trouble.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Pribam Pey
|
"Definitely. Let us proceed."
I moved Narvik and Pribam's pogs into the usual marching order, leaving a space for Armun.
Rene Duquesnoy

You open the door..
This strange dome-like room is mostly unassuming at first glance, but upon gazing upward, the magical nature of the chamber quickly becomes apparent. Looming trees with black bark and dry, writhing branches extend from the arched ceiling one hundred feet above, defying gravity and growing downward rather than up. A fine layer of soil covers the stone floor of the room below, and several sets of bloody footprints lead
from the northern doorway toward the door to the west.
Pribam Pey
|
Pribam casts detect magic and commences scanning the room from the doorsill.
If any Spellcraft checks become necessary, here are a couple.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (17) + 15 = 32
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (8) + 15 = 23
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34
Armun Govil

Armun peers at the tracks. "I'm hardly an expert, but they are curious indeed..."
Survival: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21

Revealed more of the map
Pribam sees that the whole room is magical. The trees and flora remain alive although they should have been dead ages ago.
Armun thinks there are 2 sets of prints, one humanoid, one animal.
Tarrow enters the room and doesn't see anything
(moved the party both inside)
All of a sudden, a large creature jumps down. He emits a loud bark that sounds extra dimentional.

Will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
If Kelvor is not transported away I will use the wand of bull's strength on him once again. If he disappears from my reach I will instead cast Doom on the creature (DC 14 Will save).

Armun considers what the creature is...
Knowledge Nature: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Armun then tries to resist the creature's effect...

Will save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 +4 more if the bark is a sonic effect
Knowledge(nature): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26 as called for regarding the bark
If bark save failed: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4 times five distance
If bark save failed: 1d8 ⇒ 5 direction
Pribam Pey

Pribam wonders what he knows about this odd creature.
Knowledge(?): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19 +1 if arcana, dungeoneering, local, planes, or religion
Specifically, he's trying to figure out if it would be worthwhile to start a countersong.
Rene Duquesnoy
|
The bark is not a sonic effect, so Pribam teleports 20 ft south.
The creature is a Barrow Hound (large fey)
Constant see invisibility & speaks sylvan.
Besides the dimensional bark, it can howl.
Pribam Pey
|
Assuming South is toward the bottom of the map, that put Pribam in the same square as the Barrow Hound, so I put his pog 1 square further South than that.
Pribam Pey
|
Kelvor presumably steps in and power attacks with the cold-iron end of his earthbreaker.
Earthbreaker (+1 cold iron) PwrAtk: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 22
Damage: 2d6 + 20 ⇒ (5, 3) + 20 = 28
Pribam Pey

That damage for Kelvor was too low. I see he has overhand chop. It should be 1 point higher, for 29 points total.
Rene Duquesnoy
|
Thwack. That hits for 29.
Barrow Hound up.
Bite on Kelvor with vital strike
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
2d8 + 9 ⇒ (5, 2) + 9 = 16
I believe that hits.
Free grab
1d20 + 16 ⇒ (14) + 16 = 30

Narvik's Round 2 action will be to cast Cause Fear on the creature DC 14 Will save or be freightened for Rounds: 1d4 ⇒ 1. A successful save means it would be shaken for 1 round. If the creature is 6 HD or more it is immune.

Pribam draws his cold iron mace. He then begins the parable of the Night Wedding.
"The mayor of Pilgrimage, soon after that town was founded, decided that he should take a bride...."
Perform(oratory): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
Kelvor now has a flank, and everyone is inspired via bardsong (+1 to hit, +1 damage with weapons, +1 on charm and fear saves)
Armun Govil
|
Armun will start singing, Inspiring Courage (+1)
"Well, it's many a day I've travelled a hundred miles or more
But a saddle on a sow sure I never saw before"
Pribam Pey
|
Unfortunately, no. It provides morale and competence bonuses that do not stack with another inspire courage.
Pribam Pey
|
If it would help, I can change Pribam's action to popping out his wand of cure moderate as a swift action and healing Kelvor for Cure Moderate: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (7, 6) + 3 = 16. Since he's grappling with a large creature, which I missed when I wrote Pribam's action, I think he's pulled into the hound's squares, so Pribam should be able to reach him.
Armun Govil
|
Hah... Pribam, we gotta stop typing simultaneously :)
Ok, since Armun was technically before Pribam, he'd inspire courage.
Pribam, that means you wand I guess. That work?
Rene Duquesnoy

Sounds good.
Narvik causes fear on the Barrow Hound.
It is unaffected.

Kelvor is still grappled.

He actually has fired in two different rounds. It's the baddie's turn now, then we all get to go again.
Kelvor of the Shundar-Quah

Ah, I see. So many posts this morning!
Rene Duquesnoy

@Tarrow: The howl is different than the bark. So you get to attempt the save. Shots still go off though.
2 bolts fly past the nasty barrow hound.
Release Kelvor (free action) then same attack on him.
