I picked up Craft (Weapon), because I want to start working on an adamantine nodachi. I don't expect we'll have enough off-time to finish it, but I'd like to see it finished in maybe a level. Do you guys mind aiding the crafting process?

Getting 3 aids during the crafting process will provide +6 and will help greatly. Taking 10 is an option and I'll provide the basic tools for those who'll need them.

Afterward we can also make a better weapon for Fish! :)

There will be crafters at the guild. You might want to reconsider the crafting skill. More will follow when you get back to the guild.

I figured getting it for 1/3 of the usual cost by crafting it myself would be even better, but I wonder if we'll have enough time to do much crafting. Seeing as we've been away from the guild for a couple of weeks, the boy could actually finish an item in the time I could make a start xD I'll re-spend the rank I put in Craft (Weapons) into Bluff instead, for a total of +6 on Bluff.

An adamantine nodachi would normally cost 3060 gp. I'll need 2295 gp if the boy's going to craft it for me. Could anyone who doesn't want to spend money now maybe borrow 300 gp to Ama? You'll get it back after the next mission, with a free cookie! :)

Guild map | Jade regent

Adamantine would take a very long time. With a +10 bonus on craft it would take about 66 weeks before the weapon is finished. I'm still working on the NPC blacksmith class currently and I am not sure how long our little friend will take on the weapon.

F First Folk - Time Thief/7 (HP 52/52 | AC:19 | T:13 | FF:16 | CMB:8 | CMD:21 | Fort:+5 | Ref:+9 | Will:+5 | Death effects:+2 | Init:+3 | Perc:+5 | Speed 30)

Wow... isn't that a bit too much? To my understanding it'd be like this:

First you take the cost of the items in silver, and then you take a third of it. So that'd be 10200 silver for a third of an adamantine nodachi. 10200 would then also be the number you'd work toward.

It's DC 15 Craft to successfully work on the weapon. If he'd take take 10 with +10 in Craft he'd have a total for 20 on Craft. 22 if he'd use masterwork tools, because those give a +2 bonus.

Multiplied by the DC, that's 300 progress in 1 week without masterwork tools or 330 with masterwork tools. 300/10200 after 1 week means he'll have it finished after 34 weeks. 330/10200 after 1 week means he'll have it finished after 30.9 weeks.

I'm not sure how fast time will pass in the game, but that's still awfully long now I take another look at it... Could I have an indication of how many scenarios would pass in that time? :S

Guild map | Jade regent

I have never heard of the third rule. This is what I found:

1 Find the item's price in silver pieces (1 gp = 10 sp).
2 Find the item's DC from Table: Craft Skills.
3 Pay 1/3 of the item's price for the raw material cost.
4 Make an appropriate Craft check representing one week's worth of work. If the check succeeds, multiply your check result by the DC. If the result × the DC equals the price of the item in sp, then you have completed the item. (If the result × the DC equals double or triple the price of the item in silver pieces, then you've completed the task in one-half or one-third of the time. Other multiples of the DC reduce the time in the same manner.) If the result × the DC doesn't equal the price, then it represents the progress you've made this week. Record the result and make a new Craft check for the next week. Each week, you make more progress until your total reaches the price of the item in silver pieces.

It says the item price, which I assume is number one and not number 3 in the list. The third only counts towards how much the item costs. Adamantine is a very rare and valuable metal so I understand why it takes so long to create. It is a high level item after all ;P

On the subject of time... I don't have a clue. The desert mission took a lot of weeks to complete. So I am not too sure about the other missions.

I am still working out how the crafting class works :) Give me some more time and I will let you know how long it will take.

If my estimate of 34 weeks was only a 3rd, I wonder how you got the 66 weeks xD

But that'd mean Ama'd have to wait about 100 weeks... 2 years... for her weapon... And most of the time 1 game week already takes multiple real weeks.

I'll just wait for you to figure it all out, but I'm starting to think I'd prefer the old-fashioned way: saving up gp till I can buy it :P

Guild map | Jade regent

I created the NPC blacksmith class... It will take about 66 weeks to create the sword. It might be better to buy the weapon instead of letting the blacksmith create it. Cheaper items will take a lot less time to create.

THe earlier estimate was a bit jumbled up... The current one is with the skills of your little blacksmith!

After some time the girl will, after some time, be able to enchant your weapons and maybe craft potions. That is at least what I planned. Maybe you have other ideas?

I figured I'd pick a type of mushroom that suited the magical forest we ended up in. In Dutch we call it an "elfenbankje," which translates as "small elven couch." (Small couch, not small elves. Though they do actually mean a small kind of Fae-like elf, instead of the LoTR-ish elf.)

Turns out the non-dull English name is "turkey tail." Certainly less magical, but I find it quite a funny name :)

Stinky snagged a silver dagger when the cache was assembled, so subtract one from your total.

I thought someone had claimed the CLW, but if not we should definitely keep it on G.P. Someone other than Stinky might want to carry it; could come in handy in some unanticipated situation.

We should maybe keep at least one of the Talk With Animals, you never know...

The money would be good but there's no spending it if you're dead, so keeping the Cloak of Resistance (+1 to saves) might be wise. It should go to whoever has the worst numbers. (I'm on my smartphone at work so can't do the research right now.) But if y'all want to sell it that's cool too.

"Red" (the girl who didn't know hair could be cut) is a fairy reborn as a human so, like Ama, everything's pretty new to her. She's a little rowdier than Ama but I saw a lot of similarities. :o)

Now that I've read through the entire archive, I'm going to conditionally recommend Red's comic: Gunnerkrigg Court. It's set in an alternate-Earth techno-magic environment where more-or-less-humans and animals (and oh, such animals!) maintain an uneasy truce across the Annan Waters (which has its own secret, born of deceit and treachery).

It might seem ridiculously silly at first but the story elements aren't random, and as you read you'll discover this connecting to that which happened because of the other. The story just keeps getting deeper and wider. Technology, magic, robots, elementals, a distinct Hogwarts vibe at times, native spirits... this one has it all. I wasn't sure I'd like it at first, and in all honesty I'm not sure why I do... but I'm hooked. It started in 2005 but if you aren't aware of it, definitely check it out.

Another that's been going even longer (since 2003) which I will highly recommend is TwoKinds. The art's a bit rough at first -- the creator was a highschooler when he started it -- but improves quickly. The story is set in an alternate world inhabited by three intelligent bipedal races. Humans can wield magic naturally. The Basitin are warriors incapable of using magic. The Keidran -- essentially intelligent, anthropomorphic animals -- are the most diverse and flexible race. Related to tigers, wolves, foxes, or dogs, Keidran are decent fighters and can control magic but can't tap the energy directly; they have to rely on "mana stones" in order to cast.

It's a solid, well-written story with the requisite tragic hero, evil overlords, battles, and dragon(s). But it's also a story of friendship and growth, tolerance and acceptance, and multiple love stories all intertwined. And humor. Plenty of humor.

If you've somehow missed it all these years, do yourself a favor and give it a go.

DISCLAIMER: I doubt most would be offended, but be warned there are "gender hijinks," and some "real life" issues are explored (though tastefully so).

And by the way, I would love to roleplay in either of those worlds! :o)

Hey GM, is it your view that an item stored in a spring-loaded wrist sheath can either be ejected using the triggered clockwork (as a Swift Action) OR retrieved manually as a Move Action without disturbing the cocked mechanism? Thanks!

Guild map | Jade regent

The way I read it it's only as a swift action. It works the same as the non spring loaded version, but retrieving the item(s) is a swift action instead of a move action. I think it would be possible to retrieve the items with a move action, although you would need to be really careful not to trigger the springs and such. During combat that would be very hard or it would cost more time than a move action. Why would you want to retrieve the items as a move action? Maybe that makes it a little easier ^^

On another topic! I started this game with 4 players to see if it would be manageable for the simple me ;P Seeing that the game runs fairly smooth I would like to invite some other people. I think it would be fun to see some more people running around in the guild :) I will try and contact some players I already know and who's play style would really fit the game.

Your sheath analysis makes sense, especially in melee.

GM Dinuci wrote:

Well, in melee I want the option of moving to someone and jabbing them with a CLW wand in a single round. The SwA retrieval makes that possible even if the wand's not in hand.

Obviously the speed's not important outside of melee. And doing it in a single round's not always necessary even in melee (like if he's drawing it because he thinks he's going to need it later).

It's a Full Round Action to wind the clockwork (and fluff: wear and tear on the gears and spring). So it seems reasonable to manually draw and stow (like it was a regular wrist sheath) when the speed's not needed.

Totally unimportant, actually; very few situations where it'd really make a difference. I was just checking my options.

GM Dinuci wrote:

I think that'd be great! And does that mean you've gotten past your mental/writer's block? Earlier you were expressing concern over coming up with scenarios.

Great cue to again say how much I've enjoyed this game so far. Thank you all so much for letting me add my brand of craziness. We have an excellent (if strange) team, and I look forward to see what happens next!

You could also consider gloves of storing for the long run. Something I've used for storing wands and the such is a efficient quiver. 1800 gold and a ton of space, also with the use of quick drawing.

The mental/writer's block isn't gone just yet ;P Although I tested the dwarf fortress one yesterday and it worked out pretty well.

I have some other ideas but I need to work them out... I have a ton of inspiration material I just need to plow through it :P I also have a friend who has some scenario's he is willing to share. (Made at the same time as the ones you've placed so far.)

I really like this game also, have heard it recently from someone else also ^^ Does great to hear that I'm not the only one enjoying it.

Thanks for the future suggestions. For now, having recently invested mucho gold in an extra-dimensional backpack and mithral armor, spring-loaded wrist sheaths were... affordable. :o) Baby steps!

F First Folk - Time Thief/7 (HP 52/52 | AC:19 | T:13 | FF:16 | CMB:8 | CMD:21 | Fort:+5 | Ref:+9 | Will:+5 | Death effects:+2 | Init:+3 | Perc:+5 | Speed 30)
Abilities:
Motes: 13/13 | Aevum: 1/1 | Rune of Healing: 1/1

I think we could certainly use some additional members. It'll create even more opportunities for funny/weird situations! :P

And I look forward to the next scenario, with the bridge! :)

Male N Human Arcanist 7 | HP: 40/51 | AC: 20 (14 Tch, 15 Fl) | CMB: +2, CMD: 14 | F: +4, R: +6, W: +7 | Init: +6 | Perc: +0, SM: +0 | Speed 30ft | Resevoir: 5/10 | Spells 0/5, 3/5, 3/4 | Active conditions: none

I'm fine with more players! More the merrier.
