"Get your hands off me, I didn't do anything to you!" Ardeth says attempting to wriggle out of the bouncer's grasp.

Agility 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 5) + 3 = 11

male human

Ardeth manages to wriggle free of the bouncer's grasp.

Hey you slippery little bastard!

Meanwhile the guard that had been standing at the door to the bar draws his scimitar and moves to ready an attack on Juma, who just thumped the bouncer with the torch.

Guard:You're under arrest outlander! Assaulting a city guard is a death sentence, so I suggest you drop your weapon and surrender.

Here's a map of the interior of Jade Dancer. It is the upper level only (though it shows some of the common room. I'll try to throw together another one of the lower level. The bar isn't on this map, but it is located at the top right corner under the balcony. Around the balcony, you will note that there are alcoves with curtains. These are were the harlots go with their customers.

jade dancer

male human

I figure that Dorin and Xanos are around L4 and M4 on the map. Saul is at about k13, but heading down the stairs.

male human

So I'm assuming that Dorin and Xanos are sitting tight for now.

Round #2

Temur is still in the alley, but I'm not sure what he's up to, probably readying an arrow.

Ardeth is on the ground in the mouth of the alley with a thug hovering over him, said thug is drawing a club, but seems unsure of what to do. Juma (also in the alley) has a city guard on him demanding that he surrender and seemingly ready to attack him.

Saul has just made it to the bottom of the stairs in the common room. The other thugs that he called to have gotten up from their table and are hustling to the stairs, presumably to help out in the alley.

The city guards near Xanos and Dorin are still around them and seem to be looking to Saul for direction.

Feel free to act.

Ardeth is gonna run like hell then hide.

Agility check to clear bouncer 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 4) + 3 = 13

Stealth once I've run somewhere else 3d6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 1, 2) + 3 = 9

My thinking is, Xanos and Dorin aren't involved negatively yet. Temur is awol and Juma is either gonna let himself get arrested or get a death sentence put on all of us. If I run away, I avoid killing anyone, hopefully draw a couple of them off and we can always rescue/bribe/jailbreak Juma out of jail later. Especially if the cops are corrupt. Next time, we visit Saul in his bedroom in the middle of the night. Not somewhere public.

male human

Where you going to run? Presumably not down the dead end alley.

male human

Are Xanos and Dorin holding tight for now?

Past them and off into the city, look for a rooftop or sewer to hide in.

male human

Ardeth is suddenly on his feet and sprinting off into the city. The bouncer suffers a moment of indecision, as he seems to be considering whether to pursue the vagrant. Instead he opts to stick with the guard confronting Juma.

The guard is ready for a fight, but clearly not eager to engage Juma (he's probably praying that Juma will surrender and come quietly).

In the bar:

Spoiler:

Xanos and Dorin you see Saul hustle to the bar. He heads behind and seems to be fixed on a door behind the bar that leads to some sort of back room. Meanwhile the three thugs he called have made their way up the stairs and are about to head outside.

The captain of the guards motions to two of his men. Go see what's going on. Blow your whistle if reinforcements are required. I'm going to stay here a moment and finish up my drink. Two of the guards get up and start heading for the stairs. The "captain" and another of his men seem to be planning on keeping tabs on Dorin and Xanos.

2d6 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 5) + 4 + 2 = 13

Xanos whispers a single word in a long dead language and focuses his will. Waves of fatigue began subtley creeping into the captain's body.

male human

The captain lets a big yawn. Looks into his tankard of ale and then passes out on the bar table.

Meanwhile Saul rushes behind the bar and seems to be heading for a door that leads into some kind of back room.

Xanos looked over his shoulder and laughed. "Your captain doesn't seem to hold his drink well." he sneered at the other soldier. "And during some kind of brawl that takes your whole squad to quell? I am unimpressed."

So where we at? Time wise with those indoors, and round-wise?

male human

Juma has guard and two thugs on him. Three more thugs have just stepped out of the door of the bar. The city guard is waiting for Juma to put down his spear.

Ardeth has fled the scene (at least for the moment).

A couple of more guards are making their way up the stairs to help quell the disturbance. Xanos has just put the captain of the guard out (though Juma doesn't know this).

Xanos the guard standing beside the captain looks down at his unconscious boss.

Eh, Boss. This is no time to be passing out. Boss?

Meanwhile Saul slips through the door behind the bar.

Juma is free to act. Xanos and Dorin are free to take new actions as well.

If I can lose them and then make my way stealthily back on the rooftops I will.

"Dorin, head for the alley. I'll follow Saul. This idiot will have to chose between us."

Xanos stands up and makes to move toward the back.

I'm assuming there's latrines or something in that general direction?

male human

There's a doorway opening into latrines beside the bar. The door Saul just went through is behind the bar you are sitting at. The captain's head flumped onto the bar just as Saul went through the door.

Ardeth you can do that no problem. No one has really bothered to follow you. They were much more concerned about Juma.

Without a word, Dorin rises up to his full height, and moves swiftly, heavy footsteps taking him towards the alley.

First I will lose the disguise, then....

After escaping the men, Ardeth rips off his beggar disguise and climbs up onto the rooftops. He draws his bow, and heads back to the alley. Keeping to the shadows on the roofs.

Stealth (Agility, Assassin)3d6 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (6, 1, 4) + 3 + 2 = 16

He keeps an eye on the situation, ready to feather anyone who causes too much trouble.

male human

I'm kind of waiting on Juma here.

male human

The guard left at the bar looks a little flustered, as he watches Dorin get up and walk off.

Where' your friend going? Captain...?

male human

With Juma paused in the alley not taking any action. The three thugs that Saul had sent out join the guard and the other thug.

Now 5 guys are standing in the mouth of the alley facing Juma.

One of the thugs the just arrived looks to the guard and says in a gruff voice.

What's going on here?

The guard responds.

The Kushite smashed your friend with the butt of his spear and it looks like he slit the throat of your other friend. He doesn't seem to want to put down his spear and come quietly.

The thug's eyes turn angrily towards Juma.

Kill him.

They all rush in at Juma. The thugs don't have armour, but they have clubs and/or knives. The city guard is better armed (wearing mail and a scimitar).

male human

Juma, you glance back over your shoulder to see if Temur has your back, but he seems to have managed to slink off.

"He likes fights. Sounds like there's one out there. Me, I have to use the latrine." Xanos said with a shrug, standing and beginning to walk around the bar. "I guess since you're supposed to keep an eye on us you'd better come with me. You can help me hold it."

Had been kinda waiting to see if Temur or Ardeth or Dorian were joining in or Juma was to take on all five by himself. 3 to 1 certainly seems fair though. Ok Ok, a little unfair, but they have it coming! ; )

Still deciding to use non-lethal force on the guards but not giving a witt about the thugs, Juma roars his war-cry and launches himself, spear first, at one of the thugs.

Melee: 4d6 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 6, 3, 3) + 4 + 2 = 20
Damage: 3d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 3, 6) + 4 = 19
[Bonus die for warcry and another for cultural weapon master with a spear]

male human

Remember your war cry and cultural weapon die only apply to your attack roll, not damage, and you still take only the highest two dice, so your attack roll ends up being a 15 and your damage is 10.

Juma lunges forward impaling one of the thugs with his spear. It sinks deep into his chest, killing him instantly.

The thugs and the city guard rush Juma, seeking to overwhelm his with numbers.

They get a +2 to hit as a gang up bonus, but they are rolling a penalty die for the war cry.

Thug #1 3d6 + 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2, 5, 3) + 1 + 1 + 2 = 14

Thug #2 3d6 + 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (6, 2, 4) + 1 + 1 + 2 = 16

Thug #3 3d6 + 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (3, 6, 5) + 1 + 1 + 2 = 18

Thug #4 3d6 + 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (1, 4, 4) + 1 + 1 + 2 = 13

City Guard 3d6 + 1 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (6, 1, 4) + 1 + 2 + 2 = 16

male human

Thug #1= 9, Thug #2= 10, Thug #3= 12, Thug #4= 9, City Guard = 10

With Juma's defence of 1 the #TN to hit him is 10, so Thug #3 and the City Guard hit.

Thug #1 hits with his club 1d6 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 - 1 = 3

The City Guard hits with his sword 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Juma's armor checks

1d10 ⇒ 1 and 1d10 ⇒ 8

male human

Juma's armour holds up against the first attack and the club inflicts no real damage on the big Kushite. He's not so fortunate against the second attack and the guard's sword slashes across his arm for 3 damage.

Juma nets a total of 3 damage

male human

Ardeth you can join this fight in 2 rounds. You'll be on a nearby rooftop.

I'm not trying to be a dick, but given that you were disguised as a beggar and had to bolt in hurry it seems unlikely that you would have your bow on your person (as it would be very hard to conceal both a bow and arrows and would immediately give away the fact that you aren't a beggar). It would probably be hidden somewhere nearby where you sitting. If you want to spend a hero point you can use a narrative declaration to say that you had the foresight to stash it on a nearby roof top or the alley across the street, thus giving you access to it as soon as you get near the action. Otherwise it would most likely be sitting in the alley somewhere behind Juma.

male human

Dorin you can join the action next round, which is basically about to start.

The guard by Xanos seems flustered. He looks again at the captain, shrugs and heads off after Dorin.

Round #3 (I think)

Juma can act

Guards and thugs can act

Dorin is stepping out of the bar and seeing Juma fighting off four men. He can join the action.

Xanos is free to act and is presumably following after Saul.

Ardeth is making his way back to the fight, but isn't there quite yet. (next round)

Not having my bow is perfectly fine. Drug addicts who have been using in an alley all day don't have foresight.

HP 43/43, Temp HP 11, AC: 17, Fort +3, Ref +2, Will +7, Perception:+8, Channel 8/8, Bolster 10/10 Map Active Effects: message, stoneskin, spectral hand, fly Ritual Calendar

Yep. Following Saul.

Male Careers: Farmer 1/Barbarian 2/Mercenary 1/Soldier 0) (Phys:Str 4/Agil 1/Mind 0/App 0) (Combat: Brawl 1/Melee 2/Ranged 0/Defense 1) Lifeblood 14/14, Hero 2/3

Dorin noted the scene before him, and barked a booming laugh. Unslinging his hammer, he strode forward, prepared to even the odds. He seemed to have none of the restraint toward the guards that Juma was showing - the Aesir had been in the Wicked City too long to have any sympathy left for its guardians.

male human

Well Dorin you step out the door and notice Juma trying to defend the mouth of an alley against an angry pack of Saul's thugs and a city guard. He seems to be holding his own, but the numbers aren't in his favour.

Feel free to rush in and take action.

male human

Xanos you quickly duck behind the bar and follow Saul through the door. The door opens into a hallway that extends straight ahead of you. It is about 30' long and has two doors on the right. One is at the end of the hall and the other one is about half way down. Both doors look partially open.

Do you guys want me to use spoilers since different characters are in different places?

HP 43/43, Temp HP 11, AC: 17, Fort +3, Ref +2, Will +7, Perception:+8, Channel 8/8, Bolster 10/10 Map Active Effects: message, stoneskin, spectral hand, fly Ritual Calendar

personally I like being able to read the stuff I'm not around for. I can separate player and character knowledge, so it makes the story more like a novel.

Xanos strides down the hall, pausing to push the first door open and peer inside.

male human

Looking in the first door, you see a dimly lit room. It appears to be a living space. The room has a cot on the floor and a wooden table with some stools around it. There is a flickering lantern on the table that provides some illumination. You notice several cards and dice on the table, as well as couple of wooden bowls with some stew partly eaten stew in them. A trunk sits on the floor near the cot. It has a pad lock on it. You don't see anyone in the room.

HP 43/43, Temp HP 11, AC: 17, Fort +3, Ref +2, Will +7, Perception:+8, Channel 8/8, Bolster 10/10 Map Active Effects: message, stoneskin, spectral hand, fly Ritual Calendar

Xanos shuts the door audibly and continues down the hall.

Male Kushite; Barbarian 1/Slave 0/Gladiator 2/Mercenary 1, Str 4, Agil 1, Mind 1, Appeal 0, Brawl 1, Melee 2, Ranged 1, Def 1, Health 12/16, Hero 5/5 Armor 4

Still avoiding lethal force on the guard, Juma lunges at another one of the thugs
Melee: 3d6 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (4, 5, 3) + 4 + 2 = 18
Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 4) + 4 = 9

while to the guard he yells "I have no quarrel with you Guard! If you wish to live to see your wife and children leave now while I put these dogs down!"

male human

You run another of the thugs through with your spear and take heart to see Dorin coming out to join the action.

The city guard is about to heed Juma's words and turn to run, but just as he does so he sees two more of his compatriots as well as Dorin who is being followed by a third guard. The reinforcements gives him heart and he turns back to the Kushite.

This is your last chance to drop the spear and surrender Kushite! His voice quivers a little as he speaks, as he is clearly still not entirely confident he and his men can bring Juma down before Juma guts him.

The other two thugs take a couple of steps back go on full defence as the guard attempts to parlay.

I kind of forgot that the captain had sent 2 of his men away to check out the alley, and then there is another one following Dorin

So the situation outside the bar is now Dorin and Juma mixing it up with 4 city guards and 2 thugs.

Dorin pretty much all the enemies except for the final guard that followed you are between you and Juma. That means you have 3 guards and 2 of Saul's thugs right in front of you, as well as 4th guard just behind you.

Male Careers: Farmer 1/Barbarian 2/Mercenary 1/Soldier 0) (Phys:Str 4/Agil 1/Mind 0/App 0) (Combat: Brawl 1/Melee 2/Ranged 0/Defense 1) Lifeblood 14/14, Hero 2/3

Dorin lumbers forward, bellowing a challenge as he goes. He raises his immense hammer, and lets fly with a crosswise swing designed to send one of Saul's thugs flying from their feet.

male human

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 = 11
1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Dorin takes a mighty swing with his maul, smashing the thug in the chest. Blood spews out his mouth as he goes hurtling backwards and crashes to the ground.

male human

He's still alive, but only barely.

male human

2 guards attack Dorin. One of them is the one that was with the captain and followed Dorin. The other one was beside the thug that Dorin just smashed.

+1 gang up bonus

Guard #1 2d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (5, 1) + 2 + 1 = 9
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Guard #2 2d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2, 5) + 2 + 1 = 10
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

male human

Dorin manages to fend off the first guard, but the one behind him manages to slash him.

1d10 ⇒ 1

male human

Lucky for Dorin, the big leather belt he is wearing bears the brunt of the sword slash.

Dorin takes 2 damage.

male human

The last thug and the other 2 city guards attack Juma.

guard #1 2d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (1, 4) + 3 + 1 = 9

guard #2 2d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (5, 3) + 2 + 1 = 11

thug 2d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2, 1) + 2 + 1 = 6

Because Juma is defending the end of an alley I only gave a +1 gang up bonus even though he has three guys on him

male human

Juma fends off all but one of the attacks.

Armour check: 1d10 ⇒ 8

Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

male human

Unfortunately, his armour doesn't help him and he takes 5 points of damage from a scimitar slash.

male human

Juma hasn't acted this round, but everyone else has gone. Not sure where Juma is at.
