As you head onwards toward the Barrow.
Tully: "I thought the barrow would be easily explored, it being so well known and not even hidden from view that it would have been looted long ago."
The hill (or mound) before you has a diameter of over 500 feet and rises some 100 feet. As far as you can tell, there’s only one entrance, on the west side. A dark tunnel bracketed by two standing stones, a lintel stone between them linking the three into an inset trilithon.

Broccan Dunchad |

Broccan draws his sword and moves cautiously toward the entrance.
He keeps alert for danger, and also looks for anything that might be of interest.

A short inscription is carved deeply into the lintel stone…..

Just inside the doorway within a small chamber is an altar, spiral carvings decorate the walls, floor and roof, across the way work runic script has four lines on the far wall.

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
The dwarf peers into the darkness and at the inscriptions, but he doesn't recognize the language, so he's glad for the druid's translation.
"'sat somethin' fam'liar t' anyone?"

Edrukk Thorvirgun |

"'t 'ome, th' obvious route, 'at's th' one where th' traps be. Th' 'idden route's th' way those 'n th' know would enter. If'n 'ere be traps, 'tis fewer o' them." *shrug* "But I dinna know if'n 'is was designed by dwarves. Le's 'ave a peek, eh?"

The secret door passes into what can only be called a maze, of passageways…..the non-uniform and treacherous in corridors are not laid out with mathematical precision. The flooring is subtly uneven, imperceptibly rising and falling, so that not every passageway begins or ends on the same level.....
The stairwell leads not into a chamber, but into a maze of passages….
Simplified
In a recessed area ahead of you, you see a creature of some sort....

Broccan Dunchad |

Broccan moves forward, interposing himself between the creature and the group - sword at the ready.
"Can y' talk? Or'r y' noth'n but'a mine'less mons'tr?"

Edrukk draws his greatsword. "'ere now, what's yer story? What be keepin' ye from restin' quiet-like?"
Stepping forward to assist Broccan, readying an attack if possible.

Hermes Depuis |

Hermes slowly joins the group, he says absentmindedly to no-one in particular, "You know those words ... They were a once-famous excerpt from the Saithnasmal, the contemporary epic poem describing Saithnar the Warlord's successful efforts to repel the invaders threatening his people. This particular stanza represents his speech in the midst of the final battle admonishing his soldiers to follow his example and fight on, even though mortally wounded by enemy treachery. Interestin eh?
Seeing the group look to the danger ahead, he readies for action, getting his shortbow ready to shoot.

Broccan is now insane.....
Broccan
Insanity is like a permanent confusion....can be broken several ways...
d% Behavior
01-25 Acts normally
26-50 Does nothing but babble incoherently
51-75 Deals 1d8 points of damage + Str modifier to self with item in hand
76-100 Attacks nearest creature (for this purpose, a familiar counts as part of the subject's self)
A confused character who can't carry out the indicated action does nothing but babble incoherently. Attackers are not at any special advantage when attacking a confused character. Any confused character who is attacked automatically attacks its attackers on its next turn, as long as it is still confused when its turn comes. Note that a confused character will not make attacks of opportunity against any creature that it is not already devoted to attacking (either because of its most recent action or because it has just been attacked)

Sorry about this, Edd....
"Die, y' airy l'il devil!" Broccan cries as he turns and begins hacking at Edrukk with his sword. His eyes are wide and foaming drool runs from the corner of his crack-toothed mouth.
Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Edrukk Thorvirgun |

Did you rebuild Alkaid? I thought she was also a warpriest...
Both of the fighter's attacks hit, but the dwarf fixes with a stare and says, "Broc, me boy, ye need t' learn t' 'it 'arder."
Turning back to the resident of the maze, he adds, 's fer ye, ye twice-dead abomber-nation, Ah dinnae what ye did t' me boyo 'ere, but Ah'm gonna 'ave a word wit' ye."
Assuming it's within a 20' movement, let's see how hard I can hit it. If it is too far away, I will use my minor destruction blessing to enhance damage rolls by +3 instead.
Attack!: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28 Melee +2 greatsword, sacred weapon, power attack, furious focus, vital strike
Damage: 4d6 + 12 ⇒ (2, 3, 2, 5) + 12 = 24

Edrukk Thorvirgun |

Gotcha. Here's hoping a near-crit threat is sufficient to hit - Broccan's the damage dealer around here, but I tried to rebuild the dwarf as a warpriest that could deliver a little pain when the need arose.

Broccan Dunchad |

Broccan expression of raving madness melts away to one of bewilderment.
"Wha' happ'ned? Why's she got me truss'd up like'eh goose? Why're y' point'n tha' wand at me? Di' sum'n kill th' dead thing?"

Hermes Depuis |

"Come all and sundry, let the goodness in your hearts strike at the undead, let your strength of mind protect you from its deathly presence, as did Jorgen of the Golden Heart battle in the Ice Mountain of the Damned. Where is silver sword shone brightly, blinding the undead with its righteousness and sending their lost souls back for Pharesma's judgement." Hermes says loudly, as he starts to recite the epic poem of the defeat of the undead rising in Irresen.
Inspire Courage +2 attacks and damage, +2 on saves vs fear and compulsion.
