Agraic |
"Someone get Chomper some healing-like, so as they don' get mauled while they're down there any more than they already 'ave?" Agraic insists while keeping his polearm at the ready to slash at any opponent that appears within reach.
Darshan the Pathfinder |
"Well, down we go," Darshan says. He lines himself up carefully, and jumps down to where Chomper is.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
Nonlethal damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Unfortunately, he does not jump quite as gracefully as he had hoped, and twists his foot a bit upon landing.
"Hurm," he says in a very dignified manner.
"Is there a preferred way to heal Chomper? Or should I use my healing wand on him?"
Shigeru Kotabe |
"I have a wand that is particularly effective on eidolons, especially when I use it." Shigeru calls down as he draws out the snakeskin wrapped wand he had previously used. "This pit could be a...screw it." he mutters to himself as he steps up to the ledge and, after a moment, hops off down into the space his eidolon had just previously been occupying. A surprised smile is clearly visible upon his face.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Chompy-o-Squish the Eidolon |
Chomper gets up and steps forward onto the corpse of the redead ghast, taking a defensive posture in front of Darshan.
Shigeru Kotabe |
Shigeru begins administering healing to his eidolon.
Let me know if/when things/people interject their actions as these castings are standard actions. Chomper will maintain total defense and actively perceiving with a +9 bonus until healing is complete after...nice, only 4 rounds.
Rejuvinate E., +1CL: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Rejuvinate E., +1CL: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Rejuvinate E., +1CL: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Rejuvinate E., +1CL: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Grandmaster TOZ |
4d20 ⇒ (12, 16, 3, 15) = 46
The cave is quiet save for Shigeru's chanting, until Chomper notices that something bumps the cask directly ahead of him, setting it to spin in the deep water.
18 Darshan
17 Chomper (Damage: 11)
17 Agraic
11 Kensaku
4 Shigeru
Three rounds have passed. What do you do? The rest of the party can have taken actions while Shigeru heals. The red square is where Chomper saw movement.
Kensaku Rekishi |
Kensaku hums a jaunty, if off-beat, tune while she waits for there to be enough room for her to move in to the horrifying death chamber, pausing to generate a light on a bracelet dangling on her wrist so she can see once she's down.
Darshan the Pathfinder |
Darshan moves over to the sold ground to the north. (How deep is the water? I'm assuming it's "shallow bog" deep, so it counts as difficult terrain. Let me know if swimming or something was necessary.) (That's one round.)
He gets out his own wand of Cure Light Wounds and attempts to use it on himself.
Use Magic Device: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
Golden light briefly shines on him, fixing up his minor wounds. 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
He then looks around carefully.
(Third round: active Perception.
Perception: 1d20 + 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (5) + (2) + 8 = 15
another +2 to find traps)
Grandmaster TOZ |
Light blue areas are shallow bog, double movement, dark blue areas are deep bog, quadruple movement or swim. The area is covered in darkness, so remember the limits of your light sources.
Grandmaster TOZ |
*insert Prince of Persia time-rewind effect here*
As Darshan prepares to use his wand in the light of his wayfinder, a furious rush of water parts to reveal another undead lunging for his throat, wet shriveled lips pulled back from sharp yellowed fangs.
Bite on Darshan: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Damage on Darshan: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Caught unaware by the lurking monster, Darshan feels a sharp pain of the bite followed by cold numbness as he pulls away.
18 Darshan (Damage: 9, 4NL)
17 Chomper (Damage: 23)
17 Agraic
13 Ghast
11 Kensaku
4 Shigeru
Since the ghast was presented a target, we're reverting back a round. I'm assuming that Darshan would activate light first in the pitch black darkness, so he has not had a chance to use the wand yet. Both Darshan and Chomper need Fort Saves against the stench, and Darshan needs one against disease and paralysis.
Darshan the Pathfinder |
Fort vs. Stench: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
For the next for save, spend 2 inspiration to add the inspiration die to the save:
Fort vs. Paralysis & Disease: 1d20 + 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (16) + (4) + 2 = 22
Shigeru Kotabe |
"Darshan!" Shigeru calls out, seeing his friend attacked by the drenched undead. A faint blue glow emanates from his hand as he incants. "Creeping chills of wintered halls, smash our foe with this Snowball!" A chunk of ice forms in his hand and he hurls it as hard as he can at the ghast. Sadly, it goes sailing overhead.
Ranged Touch into combat: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 6 - 4 = 5
Summoners have limited spell slots and I can't hit everyone with it right now anyway, so I'm holding off on haste.
Kensaku Rekishi |
Recognizing the danger and the difficulty of moving through the swampy soup, but also seeing there's not enough room just yet, she pulls a sea-green bottle from one of her pouches and downs it before taking a small skip into the hole. A transparent pink cloud of magical energy slows her descent and gently deposits her on the stones below as she readies her naginata.
Draw and drink Elixer of Swimming, 5ft step, and swift to Feather Fall
Grandmaster TOZ |
As Shigeru attempts a distraction against the monstrosity menacing Darshan, Chomper notices something else moving in the water to the south. Another ghast lurks beneath the water, drawing close to the summoner!
22 Ghast Green
18 Darshan (Damage: 9, 4NL)
17 Chomper (Damage: 23)
17 Agraic
13 Ghast Red
11 Kensaku
4 Shigeru
Looks like one got a little too hungry for its own good. :) No AoO however due to its improved cover under the water.
Darshan the Pathfinder |
Darshan takes a five foot step away from the water, draws his rapier, and carefully stabs at the Ghast.
Move action: draw rapier. Alas, I can't study this round, as I needed the move action to get out the rapier.
Attack, using Combat Expertise. I've included the -1 in the attack; AC goes up +1 to 22 this round.
Rapier attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Damage if hits: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Chompy-o-Squish the Eidolon |
"Bad bread water man protect Shigeru!" Chomper calls out as they splash their way deeper into the water. They then reach out a tentacle as far as they can and take a swipe at the head of the monster harrying Darshan.
Claw Attack: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (6) + 15 = 21
M/B/S Damage: 1d4 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Agraic |
Agraic sees the commotion in the water and grumbles a bit, tossing his guisarme into the water Dropping weapon, free action as he jumps down pulling out his shield and readying his cestus to strike at the nearest possible target.
Jump down!(Acrobatics): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Ignore 10' if jump down did not work: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Fortitude Save(vs stench): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
He then attempts to take a punch at the thing.
MWK Cestus(Power Attack, Furious Focus): 1d20 + 10 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 10 - 2 + 2 = 24
Damage(Power Attack, Piercing): 1d4 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 = 10
Grandmaster TOZ |
AoO on Chomper: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Darshan misses his strike on the ghast, but distracts it just enough for Chomper's tentacle to crunch into the things skull, leaving a heavy dent of crushed flesh and bone. The lurking undead snaps at the eidolons heels, or equivalent tentacle part, but cannot find purchase.
Nonlethal Damage on Agraic: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Landing heavily, Agraic steels his stomach against the stench of the rising monster and punches down hard. The watery reflection of Darshan's light causes him to miss, before a deluge of water heralds the ghast's attack. Not on Agraic, but on Shigeru!
Bite on Shigeru: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Thankfully, with eyes full of water and bereft of the element of surprise, Shigeru manages to dodge the yellow fangs.
22 Ghast Green
18 Darshan (Damage: 9, 4NL)
17 Chomper (Damage: 23)
17 Agraic (Damage: 1NL
13 Ghast Red (Damage: 10)
11 Kensaku
4 Shigeru
Red is no longer benefiting from the improved cover, so Agraic thinks he'll have an easier time hitting. Kensaku and Shigeru are up!
Kensaku Rekishi |
Excuse me, sorry, Kensaku apologizes between deep breaths, trying to not be overcome by the stench as she swings her naginata between her companions at the ghast.
Fort Save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Shigeru Kotabe |
Fort Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
His eyes watering from the stench, Shigeru draws a dagger. "I'm not *cough* good at this!" he chokes out as he attempts to stab the undead creature.
Dagger: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
P/S Damage: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
THis is why dump stats are bad, kids!
Grandmaster TOZ |
The Pathfinders attacks fail to strike true in the cramped spaces of the caves, as the northern monster flails savagely at Darshan.
Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Claw: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Claw: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Confirmation: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Damage on Darshan: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
The Vudran ducks and dodges, but an ill-timed dodge nearly allows the ghoul to tear open his throat, a deep gash opening on his shoulder.
22 Ghast Green

17 Chomper (Damage: 23)
17 Agraic (Damage: 1NL)
13 Ghast Red (Damage: 10)
11 Kensaku
4 Shigeru
Alright, time for counter attacks! Darshan has one more save against paralysis from the claw now.
Darshan the Pathfinder |
"I say!" Darshan says with affront as his shoulder is torn.
Fortitude: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
He studies the ghast, so as to strike as true as he can, and then stabs at it.
Move action: study target.
Attack with Combat Expertise. AC is increased to 22 for this round. Attack includes -1 for Combat Expertise and +2 for studied target. Damage includes studied strike.
Rapier Stab: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Damage if hits: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 6) + 3 = 10
Unfortunately, he studies his target so hard the forgets that you must actually thrust the rapier to attack with it.
Agraic |
The seemingly backwoodsy warrior blinks as the thing doesn't attack him but the squishy caster next to him like he wasn't even there. He's wise enough to not want to risk getting whacked moving past the thing, but not wise enough to realize he's corking up the works...
Enterin' Rage. Guarded Stance. Darkvision 60'
"Alrigh', y'don' pissed m' 'ff! ARRRRGGHHHH!!!!"
MWK Cestus(Power Attack, Furious Focus, Rage): 1d20 + 10 - 2 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 10 - 2 + 2 + 2 = 30
Damage(Power Attack, Piercing, Rage): 1d4 + 4 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 2 + 2 = 11
Grandmaster TOZ |
As Darshan assumes the proper form and prepares to strike in the next instant, Chomper sees through the clouding water another prune-skinned corpse swimming closer. The newly arrived ghast breaks the surface with its dark, wet hair in a momentary misjudgement, making it easier to spot. Agraic proceeds to cave in the menacing monsters chest, which seems not to affect its breathless attacks despite the massive damage.

Chomper can take his action given the new information, then red will go if it is still standing.
Chompy-o-Squish the Eidolon |
Chomper's eyes narrow in fury as the dark red stain appears on Darshan's shoulder and like a chorus of feral cats they growl. Reaching out, they proceed to disassemble the undead creature that hurt their friend, all the while eyeing the second one behind them.
Claw 1(Power Attack): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23
Claw 2(Power Attack): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 22
Claw 3(Power Attack): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31
Claw 4(Power Attack): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26
Damage 1(PA): 1d4 + 15 ⇒ (3) + 15 = 18

Damage 4(PA): 1d4 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16
Rend Green?: 1d4 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
Full round action to attack using power attack targeting Red. If the first two hits connect and trigger the rend damage then direct the second two hits to Green even if Red is still up. Otherwise hit Red until it drops, then hit Green.
Grandmaster TOZ |
Chomper smashes his ghast once, caving its head in the rest of the way and sending it under the water once more. (NO DISASSEMBLE JOHHNY FIVE!) Turning to flail at the second ghast, there is a pause as it appears to be standing very still. And then slowly, its head slides off its shoulders from the wicked cut of Kensaku's naginata.

So yeah, cover doesn't stack, so Kensaku was supposed to hit before. Carry on!
Chompy-o-Squish the Eidolon |
Upon seeing the closest foe slump into the water Chomper shrugs, turns, and drifts menacingly towards the next target.
So I guess it was a standard to smash red, free to turn and eyeball green, then a move to trundle through the water 5 feet.
Kensaku Rekishi |
Kensaku, slightly surprised that het blow actually did hit, believes the threat to be over and pulls out the plain wooden wand from before. She speaks the command word and touches Shigeru with it in order to start closing up his wounds, though she frowns as the magic sputters a little bit.
UMD: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (5) + 17 = 22

Shigeru Kotabe |
Breathing a sigh of relief as the ghast sinks into the water, soon to take the stench with it, Shigeru draws his crossbow off his back. He takes aim and fires at the last one, thankful of Darshan's light.
Crossbow: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

Darshan is up, before the ghast strikes!
Darshan the Pathfinder |
Having studied the target, Darshan again tries to strike a vulnerable spot. (Since he didn't do damage last time, he can still take advantage of the study.)
Rapier stab: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Studied Strike Damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 4) + 3 = 11
As he stabs the creature with his rapier, he tries to dig around inside the ghast to stab some additional juicy bits.
Confirm: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Additional Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Grandmaster TOZ |
Darshan lunges forward to attack the ghoul, but it is no longer where it once was. Chomper sees it lurk back around the cave wall to the left, disappearing from sight.

Party is up!
Darshan the Pathfinder |
OK, I'm confused... I didn't realize that Chomper was going after the ghast that was facing off with Darshan, and thought that that ghast was still there. Since I didn't believe the map had changed, and Darshan was still next to the ghast he'd been fighting, I didn't look at it. The ominous "before the ghast strikes" led me to believe that it was Darshan facing off with the one ghast in front of him. Darshan wouldn't have lunged at nothing; can I redo my action given that?
Darshan the Pathfinder |
Replace previous action turn: get out wand of CLW, hit self.
Use Magic Device: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Damage healed: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Current turn action:
Double move, updated on map. Rapier in one hand, wand in the other; it's like a swashbuckler who doesn't understand Main Gauche.
Chompy-o-Squish the Eidolon |
Chomper sighs in frustration, wishing Shigeru had offered them a swim speed during their last upgrade, and double moves to up to where the ghast just was.
Agraic |
"SUMB$&*! MOTHERF&&~IN' WATER!"
Agraic growls as he picks up his guisarme and makes his way over to support Darshan.
Double Move
Keepin' th' rage goin, cause don't think anyone has a way to clear the condition if he stops...
Shigeru Kotabe |
Shigeru grabs his backpack with the hand holding his knife and lifts his weapons and gear above the waterline as he trudges through the murky depths.
Double move action.

Agraic moves up to provide a counterpart to Chomper should the multilimbed entity wish to move up.
Don't see an attack option, double movement not quite all used up to get to flank for Chomper.
Chompy-o-Squish the Eidolon |
Swim Check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Hearing the yelp of pain from their friend, Chomper frantically begins trying to swim to catch up.
Full round action to move 1/2 speed, making the DC 10 for calm water. Goodness these guys are fast. Must have a swim speed.
Kensaku Rekishi |
Kensaku runs up and leaps into the water and starts swimming, hoping to get in to help before Darshan ends up Ghast food.
Double move to swim, can't fail cause of the Elixer of swimming giving me +10
Shigeru Kotabe |
Reaching under the waterline, Shigeru pulls a crossbow bolt from his hip mounted quiver and knocks it into his crossbow as he struggles to move uphill through the water.
