Midshipman Dortlin reporting for duty.
Real Name:Edward McGee
Character Name: Dortlin Golani
PFS #: 145373-8
Faction: Grand Lodge
Day Job: Profession Sailor: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Starting XP: 4
Starting Prestige: 0
Starting Fame: 8
Starting Gold: 1,431.5
Dortlin is a level 2 Hunter with a Frog animal companion. Dortlin uses a reach weapon and has Combat Reflexes. Hibbert the Frog also has Combat Reflexes.
Long winded explanation of shenanigans.
The tongue is a primary attack with 15 ft reach. But it can only grab or pull and once the tongue has grabbed someone it can't be used for anything else. When a target is grabbed by the tongue Hibbert is not grappled. Also a successful grab positions the target adjacent to Hibbert. Usually in the closest square to Dortlin. The forced movement doesn't provoke aoos. The jury is out on whether the tongue can be used at reach to help with flank. It is distracting but it doesn't deal damage. Up to the GM.
Of course cover blocks aoos so hopefully the front line won't be too crowded.

Want to put up a blank map so we can provide our character tokens?

![]() |

Are we really taking 4 days for the Q&A section?

![]() |

Didn't realize we were waiting on you, Thought everyone was waiting on someone else to ask questions. Slow paced is fine, Though hopefully not as slow as one of my recent games where it took 6 months to do one of the quests.

![]() |

The enemy Hibbert grabbed is currently positioned between him and Dortlin. Though since Dortlin has a reach weapon he isn't flanking with Hibbert yet.

![]() |

I don't think my frog gets a bite attack when it rolls to maintain a grapple because that is a standard action.

![]() |

Wild Empathy can help when using Speak With Animal. Though odds are a bit of food or something shiny would grant a good bonus.

Just a heads up. I will be leaving Thursday morning for a 4-day retreat at the beach that lasts til Sunday afternoon, then I have a Sunday night concert to attend. I will take my computer with me, but I may not be able to post much til after I get home. Please feel free to bot me if I delay the game at all.
On Monday, my dog goes into surgery and when he returns home on Tuesday, I will be on a full-time home care regimen with him. He needs to be walked with a belly band whenever he needs to relieve himself or get up to get a drink or eat, so it will be a busy time. (He's an almost 100 lb st. bernard puppy, so he can't be carried for these things).
I'll be able to post regularly again starting Monday, but perhaps not as frequently as usual for a while.... Anyway, sorry in advance for any lack of posting on my part. I will do the best I can.

Feel better Spark.
Rules question: Would casting Faerie Fire on the hobgoblin negate the miss chance?
Faerie Fire
A pale glow surrounds and outlines the subjects. Outlined subjects shed light as candles. Creatures outlined by faerie fire take a –20 penalty on all Stealth checks. Outlined creatures do not benefit from the concealment normally provided by darkness (though a 2nd-level or higher magical darkness effect functions normally), blur, displacement, invisibility, or similar effects. The light is too dim to have any special effect on undead or dark-dwelling creatures vulnerable to light. The faerie fire can be blue, green, or violet, according to your choice at the time of casting. The faerie fire does not cause any harm to the objects or creatures thus outlined.
Obscuring Mist
A misty vapor arises around you. It is stationary. The vapor obscures all sight, including darkvision, beyond 5 feet. A creature 5 feet away has concealment (attacks have a 20% miss chance). Creatures farther away have total concealment (50% miss chance, and the attacker cannot use sight to locate the target).

sorry for my absence... I have indeed been sick, and caring for a sick family member as well... the past week has been hell... I started a new round of antibiotics today and hoping they work.
thanks for botting me in my absence.

Dortlin, I can't find any rule that says Hibbert would not have the 20% miss chance for concealment even when grappling.
In fact, the only thing I find is...
Combat maneuvers are attack rolls, so you must roll for concealment and take any other penalties that would normally apply to an attack roll.
Is there a rule I am missing?

![]() |

No I just forgot. The aoo gets a miss chance. The roll to maintain the grab does not because if the grab is maintained the damage is automatic, It isn't a regular attack roll.
aoo miss chance 21%+ hits: 1d100 ⇒ 5
Not my lucky day. No crit after all. This is not an easy fight.

![]() |

Thought this was the gameplay thread. I'll keep the miss obv.

![]() |

Yes, this is a difficult fight.
I'm not a fan of the way this part was set up. It's more realistic, but it makes the possibility for a very hard fight.
If you encounter the hobgoblin oracle first, the hobgoblin fighters in the other room get to make perception checks each round and they join the fight as soon as they hear the combat.
If you encounter the hobgoblin fighters first, the oracle might hear, she doesn't join the fight, she simply casts more spells before you encounter her. (For example the obscuring mist would have already been up).
The combined encounter falls somewhere between CR 4 and 5.

Sorry I haven't posted the past few days. I'm graduating college tomorrow, so I've been doing things leading up to that and when I've tried to check the website in what little time I've had, it's been down.

![]() |

I want to wait for Spark so that I can 5-ft step out of the way.

![]() |

Thanks for GMing Michael. Things went pretty smoothly considering.

![]() |

I hope to have the game reported and chronicles done tomorrow.
Cool. I have a 1 - 2 game tomorrow. Wasn't planning on playing my Hunter but now I cam.

![]() |

thanks so much for the game, Michael.. and just in time to have Spark free for a con next weekend, too. Thanks for not critting me, lol.

![]() |

Thank you very much for running this. Does mine need to reflect me buying the javelin?

![]() |
