Willem dispaches yet another of the kobolds as he blade cuts a deep gash across the chest of his dark green assailant. Laiashi's attack, though deadly, misses its mark, leaving an opening for the red kobold who had been conducting the ritual to attack her in turn.
The kobolds continue their streak of utter incompetence, however, as the red kobold misses his mark entirely.
Unfortunately, the red kobold continues to prove elusive as it dodges Meredith's attack and sticks out a forked tongue at his newest attacker. "Nah nah! None of you bigguns will ever hit me!"
The rather impressive-looking kobold with scales that seem almost golden in color rushes into the ruined temple. Weaving his way past captives and allies alike, he makes his way right up to the strange fey creature threatening his invincible, but inaccurate red-scaled friend.
From the jungle, you hear the sound of vegetation being pushed aside by something potentially terrifying and deadly...
Denair watches the gold-tinted kobold stride up to her. Curious, Denair snaps her limbs at him like a frog would snatch a passing fly.
Denair continues her assault on the closest kobold.
"Wow, they are fast!"
Both of Denair's attacks miss their mark, the first one passing just over the kobold's head as she moves in to join the assault. The little reptilians' speed is certainly something to take note of!
The red kobold screams in rage as Jann tries to enter its mind and turn it against the other kobolds. Somehow, it manages to shake off Jann's spell. "Me no fight for you! Me kill you!!!"
Suddenly, the sound of some creature crashing through the forest stops as the source of the sound emerges. It's another kobold, but this one seems taller and stronger than the others, in its hand it holds a beautifully crafted sword. Its serpentine eyes scan the temple and it bares its teeth in anger. "Go! Kill! Fight! For the Golden One," it shouts to the others, raising its sword over its head.
The lighter purple kobold quickly steps toward Farshaya and stabs at the monk.
It fails to connect with the nimble human, however.

Farshaya twists back and to the side as the spear tip thrusts just by his shoulder. He continues the movement, spinning on the balls of his feet and allowing his momentum to carry his torso 360 degrees. His arms windmill around and rise up defensively, giving him the balance he needs to lash out twice with his boot, slamming the kobold's face from either side in quick succession.
The two quick strikes of Farshaya's feet destroy the purple kobold's face and send it sprawling to the ground, unconscious.
As the purple kobold falls, the kobold with the brown face paint launches its sling bullet at Farshaya, stepping into the motion to get a better shot on the monk.
The powerful-looking kobold who emerged from the forest rushes into the temple and rushes into the fray, but is unable to attack before the others have a chance to defend themselves.
The pinkish kobold follows its leader into battle and attacks Farshaya, though it does take a risk of him striking back.
Pink's spear is aimed directly at Farshaya's belly, sure to leave a deep wound if it hits home, but before the kobold can even get close, the monk lays the little creature flat with an off-handed deflection and throat jab combo.

Willem steps forward between his friends, blade in the air and banging on his shield. "Come on big guy. You and me, right now!"

Lai glances at the knight. Oh, that won't end well. She steps out of the way but continues her assault on the red kobold.

The poison from her left dagger spent, she tosses it aside and draws another from her sleeve with a flick of the wrist. With the two side by side, it's easy to see that one is better crafted than the other.

The red kobold finally falls to Laiashi's knives as the rogue steps quickly aside and lashes out.
Unfortunately, Meredith fails to connect with the spear she found among the leftovers of the Gold Crown camp. The weight is unfamiliar compared to her usual gear.
After his red companion finally fell, the kobold wearing a golden earring stabs at Laiashi with its spear to avenge its friend, then backs away from the Pathfinders, hoping maybe it can survive the day even if the rest of his friends don't.
Denair scoots around the battlefield and tries to smash one of the kobolds.
"Aaand squish!"
The white kobold bears its teeth in a wicked sneer as it shrugs off the magical assault and nimbly dodges Farshaya and Denair's attacks. He turns and snaps at the brown-painted kobold. "Get up here, coward!" He steps away from the warriors before him, draws a vial from his belt, and downs its contents. "Soon you will feel the wrath of the dragon!"
The brown kobold, following its leader's orders, rushes forward and strikes at Laiashi with its spear.
Between Laiashi's first dagger, and Meredith's spear, the brown kobold quickly falls. Only two kobolds remain! Perhaps Ser Willem's challenge will help him penetrate the well-equipped, white-scaled kobold's defenses.

Relishing a fight with a worthy foe, Willem bats aside the big kobold's weapon and thrusts forward with his sword.

Willem's knightly challenge drives him on to single-minded focus on his opponent, and he is able to strike true with his longsword, finding a gap in the kobold's armor and slicing its shoulder deeply!
The bedazzled kobold with a golden fang lunges forward and strikes at Meredith, who had finished off his brown-painted friend moments before. The summoner deftly knocks aside her attacker's spear, however, and prepares for a counter-offensive.
"Oh no! Boss, look out!" Denair scrambles to get into range of the golden kobold. She decides to hold back on her raw strength and favor accuracy over force.
"Leave her alone! You don't want to see her mad!"

"Woah now!" Farshaya is more than a little shocked to see the kobold so easily avoid his strikes, as the others had fallen so quickly.
"Nice hit, Ser Will!" Farshaya calls gleefully as he bounds off to the side to try and surround the kobold warrior. He jabs and delivers two quick, spear-handed thrusts at the enemy's side.
Denair's determined strike fells the last of the kobold grunts as her arm slams down with the force of a falling tree.
Elsewhere on the battlefield, Farshaya steps around the powerful kobold warrior and delivers a flurry of blows, the first of which catches the white-scaled reptilian square in the jaw.
The kobold leader shakes off Jann's spell and manages to dodge Saritirnen's spear. Willem seems to pose the greatest threat to the warrior, so he steps past Jann and gives a high-pitched roar as a gout of flame erupts from his mouth.
Denair decides to circle around from the northern side to keep it flanked. "Kobolds can breathe fire? Why didn't you tell me, boss?"
Denair thinks for a moment, and then decides to change tactics. Instead of trying to bruise him, she carefully reaches her branches around his leg and tries to trip him.
She's certain it wouldn't have gotten through his tough scales, but maybe it was enough to topple him over.
Denair's long fingers find a sure grip around the kobold's ankles, and she is able to pull him down.

With the kobolds around her down and bleeding, Laiashi moves to her dwarf ally's other side and stabs downward.

Everyone tries to take advantage of the kobold's vulnerable state, but the creature remains aware of his attackers and avoids everything that comes at him, though Meredith's spell will keep him from doing anything else for a few seconds!
Before Saritirnen even has a chance to take another chance at attacking the kobold leader, Farshaya falls from the sky like some kind of wild, kobold-smashing comet, and drops a massive elbow on his enemy. The kobold convulses, trying to get its breath back, but it slumps back down to the ground a moment later, unconscious.
As the last of the kobolds falls, the prisoners leap to their feet and shout for joy! "Thank you thank you!" They all shout, crowding around you as they struggle against the thin, frayed ropes binding their legs. You quickly confirm that the prisoners are the rest of the miners captured from the Gold Crown camp you had come across earlier. Because of your quick work getting here, they all survived!
A leather satchel bearing the Glyph of the Open Road—the insignia of the Pathfinder Society—leans against the defaced altar; it is the only trace of Venture-Captain Nieford Sharrowsmith. Within are spoiled rations, an elixir of vision, and one of his field notebooks. Flipping through the notebook, you find the final entry to see if it provides any insight into what became of the wayward Pathfinder.
Any questions for any of the prisoners, or would you just like to accompany them back to town?

"Are you unharmed? We came here to-" Meredith is clearly uncomfortable as the crowd swarms around her. Denair, on the other hand, laps it up and lets people shake her hand or pet her fur and urges Meredith on, tugging her armor. Meredith eventually gets the hint and smiles a bit more, with her flowers blowing on the breeze.
Eventually Meredith looks through the satchel. "Laishai, you should take this elixir. It will render you invisible, briefly."
Meredith offers whatever she can to help the prisoners continue.
"Have you heard of Sharrowsmith? We've been trying to track him and were led here. A lot of people are blaming him for the kobold attack on the Gold Crown mining company, but-" She turns to the leader's remains. "It sounds like the Winged Guardian is the real culprit."

Ser Willem pats Farshaya on the shoulder. "Nice work friend. An amazing display of combat finesse."
Looking to the crowd, he beams. "The Pathfinder Society is glad to help all of you back to town." He starts untying and checking for wounds on everyone.
When he is done, he says to his compatriots, "We should find this Winged Guardian and mete out justice or we will be back here again."
