[PFS] First Steps, part I: In Service to Lore (Table 3) (Inactive)

Game Master StephNyan

Map of Absolom

I'm opening the recruitment for the PFS scenario 'First Steps, part I: in Service to Lore'. In this campaign 4 new Pathfinder recruits will make their first steps, and become familiar with several of the factions they get to choose from.

First come first serve, as long as your character fits the requirements and you fit the activity requested. No double classes. 1 spot's reserved for a ranger.

Requirements:
I'm running this scenario for 4 characters, level 1 exclusive. I won't accept characters that have played this scenario before. It's fine if you've played it with another character before, but don't spoil anything for the other PCs.

Make sure the character you apply with is PFS legal. If you don't know how to make a PFS legal character, please read the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play. If you've read it and got stuck, I'm willing to help you.

If you've played other scenarios with your character before, please provide the Chronicle Sheets in your character's profile.

Activity:
I'm searching for an active group of players. Preferably more than 1 post a day. If real life prevents you from making any posts for a period of time, please let me know you'll be gone for some time. I'll consider pauzing the scenario for a few days, depending on how long it takes for you to return. Keep in mind if you miss out on most of the scenario, I won't be able to give you any rewards that come with completing the scenario.

GM style:
This will be my first time GMing a scenario. When playing a scenario with a PC I value roleplay highly, and so will I value it highly as GM. At the end of the scenario I'll give each player a Chronicle Sheet, which will prove your character has finished the scenario.

For those who want to read some more about the scenario:

Location:

In Service to Lore takes place in the teeming metropolis of Absalom—the City at the Center of the World. Here the Pathfinder Society makes its home, and Pathfinders from all over the world consider Absalom a second home, as many of their missions take place within the city’s walls. A settlement of over 300,000 souls, Absalom boasts many districts that are virtually cities unto themselves, and PCs in this adventure will visit several of them in the course of their mission.

Introduction to PFS and the factions:

Pathfinders explore Golarion in service to lore. This widespread group of treasure hunters, thrillseekers, sages, and voyagers make it their lives’ work to uncover lost artifacts, map neglected ruins, and learn forgotten knowledge. They do these things for the sake of lore, as well as for fame. The Pathfinder Society publishes the Pathfinder Chronicles, a multi-volume series of chapbooks highlighting some of the most amazing finds by field agents. Pathfinders are part archaeologist, part historian, and all adventurer. Many established Pathfinders make their own way in the world, following their interests or tracking down leads to greater mysteries. These established few are still subject to orders from their superiors, but the least prestigious tasks are usually reserved for those new to the organization. The Society is governed by the Decemvirate, 10 anonymous leaders who pull strings and guide the organization from Skyreach in the Grand Lodge of Absalom. They hand down orders from their secret posts to venture-captains, who in turn pass the orders to field agents. The Society has few rules, but all Pathfinders are expected to perform the Three Duties: explore, report, and cooperate. Idle Pathfinders are useless to the organization, and agents must seek out secrets or further their work in exploration of some kind, always growing and gathering knowledge. This exploration would be worthless if not for frequent reports. Pathfinders must send back accounts of their adventures, many of which end up published by the Decemvirate. Finally, Pathfinders are great heroes from dozens of countries and backgrounds with thousands of different motivations and allegiances, and the Decemvirate expects that individual Pathfinders will not interfere with one another, and absolutely never let a conflict between themselves come to blows. Despite the mandate to cooperate, Pathfinders have myriad motivations and often fall in with similarly minded factions within the organization, or external groups with close ties to the Society. As fresh new recruits, most Pathfinders know only the venture-captains who give them their training, especially Ambrus Valsin, the man in charge of daily operations in the Grand Lodge.

A gruff, no-nonsense man, Ambrus has little tolerance for laziness and often gives young Pathfinders their first taste of what being a field agent entails as a way of keeping them from staying idle too long. Among the various factions allied with the Pathfinder Society are five powerful nations locked in a shadow war for control of Absalom—Andoran, Cheliax, Osirion, Qadira, and Taldor. While the Pathfinder Society has no direct interest in this political standstill, they nevertheless have much to gain from allying with these powerful nations. Though they aren’t a recognized political body, the Varisian swindlers and smugglers known as the Sczarni provide their own support for the Society, acting as fences, contacts, or mules when the organization needs to get relics or agents in and out of hostile territory unseen. Within the Society itself, fractured groups such as the Shadow Lodge*, Silver Crusade, and the Lantern Lodge* each work to ensure the organization’s resources are applied where they feel they’re most needed, be that for the betterment of the active field agent, in distant Tian Xia, or spreading good deeds throughout the Inner Sea. A new batch of Pathfinder agents has completed their training and now stand fresh and wide-eyed before the towering structure of Skyreach awaiting their first assignment for the Pathfinder Society. Venture-Captain Ambrus Valsin has just the task for them, both to keep them relatively safe in the dangerous world beyond, and to familiarize them with Absalom, their new home, and some of the most influential allies of the Society in the City at the Center of the World.

* Note these factions don't exist anymore. For that reason you cannot join them.

Scarab Sages

Rabbai, checking in and dusting off the desert sand!

Glad to have you aboard Rabbai!

3 more spots open!

Current party members:
Ranger, half-elf: Rabbai Alaknar [VCavallo]

Sovereign Court

If you still need more players by Friday, Drop me a PM or just post here. I should have a character up for play.

I have interest in playing a human alchemist. New to Pathfinder society play. And have no books so I usually use the srd. But will try to make a legal character without much help.

I'm going to dot this for now and make a character tomorrow, it's almost bedtime.

Silver Crusade

Hi. Definitely interested. I plan on playing a swashbuckler, Joffrey DeAlmas.

http://paizo.com/people/JoffreyDeAlmas

Also, first time playing PbP so any advice/suggestions/patience will be welcome.

@slin2678: Glad to have you, but please post all stats in your profile where I can see them.

@Escheton & Dalgar the Great: Curious to see what you guys will come up with!

So there's a ranger, and probably/perhaps also a swashbuckler and an alchemist. Seems like a fun combination.

Remember the first 4 characters to be ready will join the scenario: I want to start as soon as possible.

Sovereign Court

If needed.
Broker Dwarf Brawler (APC)

I have to freshen up on PFS rules but I am interested in a applying. I was going to say a human fighter but given the current make up I think a cleric or a bard might be a better fit in the group. I will post later this morning once I have details from what I have read so far a Bard might be just the thing.

@Aquanda: Looking forward to see your character. Indeed a bard or cleric would be nice.

Current party members:
Ranger, half-elf: Rabbai Alaknar [VCavallo]

Possibly joining Friday:
Brawler, half-orc: Broker [nightdeath] (You sure you want to maybe join, and not just join?)

Sovereign Court

I'm good either way. Another Meatshield would be good. I suppose.

Liberty's Edge

Escheton's character (WIP)

Current party members:
Brawler, half-orc: Broker [nightdeath]
Ranger, half-elf: Rabbai Alaknar [VCavallo]

Possible party members:
Alchemist, human: Riika Shaedestrike [Escheton]
Swashbuckler, human: Joffrey DeAlmas [slin2678]

(Finish those stats and you're in.)

I have put together Oric the Seeker (Oracle of Lore 1)

Oric was a street tough until he was called by Irori during a black out after a brawl went bad. The trauma of the vision returns to him whenever he enters combat now and can only speak in Celestial when he does. He immediately began seeking knowledge when he awoke walking directly to the Temple of Irori when he awoke still bruised and bloody.

I will Load up the Alias and distill the crunch to a stat block next.

Current party members:
Brawler, half-orc: Broker [nightdeath]
Ranger, half-elf: Rabbai Alaknar [VCavallo]

Applications:
Alchemist, human: Riika Shaedestrike [Escheton]
Oracle, human: Oric The Seeker [Aquanda]
Swashbuckler, human: Joffrey DeAlmas [slin2678]

(Finish your character, and post in this thread when you're ready. First 2 to be ready will join the 2 that are already in.)

Finished! Do I need to register with PFS to participate?

@Oric: Yes, go to "My Account" and register with PFS. Then create a PFS character and copy everything from Oric to that PFS character. Please provide your character's PFS number in Oric's profile as well.

You'll notice a character name can't exist twice, but if you change the alias Oric's name you can then name your PFS character Oric The Seeker.

@Oric: Two questions:

1) The feat "War Priest" is supposed to be this feat? (Warrior Priest)

2) How'd you get that +1 Cha to your AC? (Your Dex modifier goes to AC, haven't ever seen Cha going there.)

Sczarni

Yes. The feat is supposed to be warrior priest. I will clarify in the write up.

The cha to AC (and reflect saves) is an revelation Sidestep Secret (Su) for a Lore Oracle.

Still copying things over but here is the registered version.

Also I have picked 4 knowledge skills but if you have alternate suggestions on what might be appropriate please let me know.

@Oric: Well perception always comes in handy as a skill. Picking up social skills or knowledge skills can also be useful. It all depends on the kind of character you want to play.

In between scenarios you can change whatever you want about your character as long as its still level 1. You need 3 XP to level up, and you'll get 1 XP per scenario. So you'll have some time to test various skills and other aspects of your character in between scenarios before deciding on a final version with which you'll play from level 2 onward.

Silver Crusade

Hello all! I would like to be considered for recruitment. This would be my first Online Game, and I think that starting from the very beginning would be appropriate. I have played many Pathfinder Society games so I am not a complete noob.

My character is a young Paladin whose father served with the PFS until his untimely demise while on a Society mission to Fire Mountain. He always aspired to follow in his father's footsteps, a Paladin as well, and join the PFS when the time came. He is always looking to right the wrongs an protect the weak.

Although his mother is a once powerful sorceress and follower of Sarenrae, he worships Iodemae just as his father did.

Here is his profile link: Essam.

Thank you for the consideration.

Liberty's Edge

I think I'm ready. Not sure what else would be needed.

@Riika: You could add a backstory/personality, but stat-wise your profile looks ready. I usually value backstory/personality descriptions quite a bit. But, as I stated before, the first 4 characters to be ready for play will be accepted! :)

Final party members:

Alchemist, human: Riika Shaedestrike [Escheton]
Brawler, half-orc: Broker [nightdeath]
Oracle, human: Oric The Seeker [Aquanda]
Ranger, half-elf: Rabbai Alaknar [VCavallo]

Please move to the gameplay thread, where everything's ready to start play.

Recruitment is closed.

Essam and Joffrey, thanks for your application. The others just happened to finish their stats faster, and I was looking to start as soon as possible. I hope you'll find another campaign/scenario to play in!
