GM Chie |

Welcome to the PbP Gameday Thread for Cosmic Captive! If you could list me a few things, so when the time comes, we can get started!
1: Player or Forum Name (What you want on the Chronicle)
2: Character Name (That's the Second Line!)
3: Classes / Level (So I have a rough idea what to expect!)
4: Faction
5: Day Job (if any) and a roll to go with it.
Example:
1: Quinn Shannon
2: Grythyk (And Gamin!)
3: Battle Oracle 4 / Paladin 6
4: Silver Crusade
5: Profession(Soldier): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

![]() |

Checking in!
1: Lady Ladile
2: Liora the Skydancer
3: Sky Druid 1
4: Liberty's Edge
5: No Day Job
I'll post more later after I've had some sleep :)

![]() |

Checking in...
1. Eric Swanson
2. Jyrrar Rivurder
3. Monk (Student of the Stone)
4. Liberty's Edge
5. No Day Job.

Faelyn |

Hey all, the PC that I was originally going to bring is still tied up in another scenario so I wanted to give you fine folks to option of selecting which of the following PCs you'd rather have in this group. (All of them are 1st level, though most of them have played a few other scenarios before.)
1) Gage the Unseen (Halfling Telekineticist focused on traps/stealth)
2) Trixalana (Gnome Life Oracle)
3) Durun Ghosteye (Kellid Hydrokineticist w/ Ice focus)
4) Abdi Goldmane (Garundi Herald Caller Cleric w/ a focus on Rulership Variant Negative Energy Channeling)
5) Lorelei Adelardi (Ifrit Flame Dancer Bard w/ Flagbearer feat)

![]() |

Checking in!
1: JackieLane
2: Atronia Regillus
3: Skald 1
4: Liberty's Edge
5: No day job
We sure have a lot of Liberty's Edge members in this group!
For Faelyn, I'll let you pick the character you prefer, but since I'm playing a skald, I'd recommend you do not play the bard. Our performances can't overlap...

![]() |

Same as Atronia, I'd suggest you go with whichever character happens to speak to you the most! I think the tentative group composition (based on the signup sheet) is something like: Skald, Monk, Monk, Druid, Druid if that helps any :)
Also, huzzah for Liberty's Edge! :D

![]() |

I think I'll bring along my gnome life oracle for you guys, since my initial PC was going to be a healer also. While I would love to bring Abdi, I think having a full party plus the Elemental Eidolon would be excessive trying to avoid hitting some of the party with my Channel Negative Energy. He has Selective Channel, but a Cha of 18 so that leaves one party member and a companion that could potentially get hit.
1: Matt B.
2: Trixalana
3: Life Oracle / 1
4: Silver Crusade
5: None
*EDIT*
Here's the big question for you guys. As your healer, would you prefer Trix to have Selective Channeling and Channel Positive Energy? Or to go with Life Link and hook that up to our primary tank?
I think with a group this large, Channel would would better overall and that way I can focus my spells upon buffing with Bless and Protection from Evil, but I can work either way.

![]() |

I think Channel would work better for this particular composition too. Liora's also got one scenario under her belt already and will be using her 2PP for a Cure wand before we start, so there should be plenty of backup :)

![]() |

Hi all. Newt checking in.
1: Tim Minniear
2: Newt the Drowned (230524-11)
3: Druid (Elemental Ally) 1 (0 xp)
4: Grand Lodge
5: Profession (sailor): Profession (Sailor): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Other than that this special involves elementals, I'm not familiar with this one. I picked potentially combat neutralizing spells (Calm, Charm), but I'm not sure if those would actually help us. If anyone has any suggestions or advice, I'm open (e.g. 'in Specials, you can never escape the combat' or some such).
Newt also starts with his Earth Elemental (Kivi the Troll) out, which is an armor wearing, weapon wielding skirmisher who can disable devices. Can switch if there's time for the ritual as needed. Water = Tank(lite), Air = Scouting/Stealth, Fire = Damage

![]() |

For Trixalana, I agree channel would probably be best.
As for Best, I don't know much about these events, but your choices sound good. Also, can't you prepare your spells after the briefing? I'm fairly new to PC's and have never played prepared casters here, but I thought that was why venture captains usually ask if we have questions or need time for preparations...
Also, Chie, I'm not sure if I gave you my character number, so here it is: 250076-1

GM Chie |

Thanks for the information Atronia!
The PFS numbers and character numbers are on the Spreadsheet, so I was planning on getting them from there!
As for Spells to Prepare, I don't want to give anything away, but I will give you 2 pieces of advice! If you have played a Multitable special before, this one is different in some ways, but Similar in others!
The other, is to read the description for potential hints! I'm sure that the Society would choose the right people for the job, so you would at least have this much information!
A Pathfinder Society Special designed for levels 1–11.
Astronomers have marveled as the famous comet Aucturn's Tear once more soars through the solar system, yet this cycle, strange portals have begun opening on each planet the comet passes, and a powerful entity trapped on the other side of these gateways desperately calls for help. To the Pathfinder Society, this is a once-in-a-human-lifetime opportunity to discover what lies through these portals—and either free the captive trapped within or ensure that it remains sealed forever.
The Cosmic Captive is a multi-table interactive adventure in which each group's actions contribute to the entire room's success.
Written by Matt Duval.
Last, but not least: Feel free to get Character Introductions started in the Gameplay thread! I'm planning on starting with your Society Liason later today!

Volyana (61375-5)
Monk (unchained) 2
Scarab Sages

I do have some rolls to make for some of my gear.
Acrobat's Pillar, DC 20 Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 Failed.
Surefoot Training Blocks, DC 15 Acrobatics: 10 + 7 = 17 +2 bonus to balance and climb, lasts 24 hours or until I fail a check.
Nine-section Whip Waster, DC 15 CMB: 10 + 5 = 15 +2 bonus to CMD versus manuevers targeting my weapon.

Re: Spell Choice - Newt, I'm happy to coordinate my spells with you so there's not too much overlap between us. Currently I've got a little bit of everything (Faerie Fire, Remove Fear, Snowball) but I'm happy to adjust as needed before we officially get started :)
@GM Chie - I need to update Liora's profile to reflect her previous game (The Confirmation) but she's going to spend 2PP to buy a Cure wand before we get started.
@All - The timing is unfortunate but I'm going to be heading out of town on Thursday to a convention and won't be back until early Monday morning. This will be my one PbP that I'll give priority to while I'm away and will attempt to at least get in a post once a day, probably in the evenings. However, please feel free to bot me just the same so things don't slow down too much :)

GM Chie |

Your wand might be on it's way Liora. Just saying.
Also, if you are heading out -this- Thursday until -this- Monday Morning, The gameday doesn't Actually start until Monday, so you should be fine!
I just wanted to make sure that everyone was on the same page before we got started for real!
Specials generally move pretty quick, especially on Play by Post! I'm going to post at least twice a day, and try to keep things moving!

![]() |

Hey, thanks! And really? I thought it was supposed to start on the 9th, or is that just the lead-in portion of the event?

GM Chie |

Would you believe that I thought Monday -was- the 9th, before looking at a Calendar today?
Leave me Instructions, and I will take care of you!

![]() |

So I'm running through my gear, and trying to trying to remember if I'm missing anything important. Currently I have:
• some pouches full of chalk dust, for invisible stuff
• CLW potion, CLW wand, troll styptic, for obvious reasons
• antitoxin and antiplague, also obvious
• magic weapon oil, for incorporeal stuff
• alchemist's fire, for swarms
Anyone think of anything else?

GM Chie |

I'm personally a big fan of the Spiritbane Spike for Incorporeal.
It's always good to have some different Weapon types and weapon Materials! (Bludgeoning, Piercing, Slashing, Cold Iron, Silver)
Something for Ranged combat (Javelins, Crossbow, Shuriken) and Something for Melee (Even a Dagger or Longspear can be helpful for a flank!)
One of my (personal) favorites for level 1 is a Cold Iron Kunai. It covers a lot of bases for 4 gp!

![]() |

I already got a bunch of shuriken, they're even monk weapons so I can flurry them. Spiritbane spike is neat. I think I'll pay up a bit and get a cold iron bich'hwa. It's a dagger with the monk property so I can flurry, 10 gp.

![]() |

Thanks for the bot, GM! I'll try to check in again tomorrow before my first session and/or when I have a break between sessions :)

GM Chie |

No Problem! If a bot needs to happen, my default is "Conserve Resources, while making Tactically sound decisions."
Also, Atronia, I have a gift for you! Check your Private Messages!

GM Chie |

When a wand is listed, assume Lowest Possible caster level unless listed otherwise!
That being said, it is a CL1 Wand of Cure light wounds with 10 charges. healing for 1d8+1!

Oh! Thank you very much! I didn't even know this existed. Can I apply the Tattoo of the Open Road boon right away, or should I wait until the beginning of the next adventure? Those elementals are scary. I certainly wouldn't mind a safeguard.

GM Chie |

Feel free to apply it right now! I know that the Multi Table Specials can be pretty dangerous for a brand new character!

GM Hmm |

★ - OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT - ★
Hey all, GM Hmm here. There’s been a crazy site outage going on for most Paizo users. For some reason I can get in while connected to mobile, so I’m just letting you know what is going on. Folks are trying to get back in and will post as soon as they are able.
Thanks for your patience!
Hmm

GM Chie |

Thanks Hmm!
For the rest of the table, you guys have a choice to make. Each path has it's Pros and Cons, so pick the one that sounds coolest to you!
You can always change paths later if you wish, but it will take a certain amount of time. I'll be keeping track of Elapsed Time in the top description, under the Maps Link!
My -best- recommendation is this: The Crater is probably the most Difficult, Combat focused, Knocking on the Front Door Path. If that's not what you are looking for, I would choose one of the other two!

![]() |

My OOC preference is to not go the most combat heavy way. Fate swings too erratically for 1st level characters. But I won't fuss if that turned out to be the consensus.
I guess my pick would be City of Ice. Sounds like a pretty set piece.

GM Chie |

Sounds like 3 for Ice, 1 for Earth, and two for 'Not Earth'
Ice is the winner then! I'll have a new map up in an hour or so!

GM Chie |

Hooray for Site Difficulties! Apparently Work has the 'Good Internet' so I'll get my posts in today! Yay!

![]() |

Same here... As of last night and this morning, I cannot access the website from home. My work Jetpack works though, so depending on whether I continue to experience this issues again tonight I may or may not be able to post after 3 PM CST.

![]() |

I'm having the same problem here. Even in my phone without the wifi, it doesn't always work.

GM Chie |

Well, I will make sure that posts are up to date before I leave work, and do the best we can!
Thanks for being so patient through these site difficulties!

![]() |

I'm back from my vacation but have been having site issues like most others. So far turning off my phone's Wi-Fi and activating the mobile hotspot seems to work so hopefully I can catch up later tonight after work!

![]() |

I just want to confirm something. Am I the only one taking the benefit from my raging song? 'Cause if I am I won't waste a turn starting it in the next encounters...

![]() |

I think Kivi did during the first combat but I'm not sure if any of the other eidolons will do so. Liora is more castery at the moment or she would :(

![]() |

That is what has surprised me so far. Of course, I didn't expect spell casters to rage, but in two scenarios I've never seen a monk take the buff and I have no idea why, other than roleplay reasons.

![]() |

So disappointed. I had the lyrics all written for this information I just shared, but I forgot them at home.

![]() |

I am with Volyana here. I believe monks are supposed to be calm and focused at all times, due to their training. It would be foreign to their training to lose control like this.

![]() |

Though I was just thinking, does anything in raging song actually say you lose control? You can't cast or concentrate, but there aren't any Monk things that require that outside of meditation feats.

![]() |

It doesn't say you lose control, just that you are not in a state of mind to do something that requires patience or concentration, like hiding or casting spells. You're also a little bit more agressive and reckless, I guess, which would explain the loss of AC. Focused on attacking rather than being very careful. (And no, that doesn't prevent you from fighting defensively). Still I get Jyrrar's point. A very ascetic monk might not want to let himself be influenced.
I'm fine with either, really. It's just I figured I should ask you both, considering that starting a rage for only one person in a very short fight (considering I sometimes don't even get a second turn to attack) might not always be the best plan.
