The elf slides back further into the pipe, just in time to avoid an explosion of excrement. From beneath the hill of semi-solid sewage a foul-smelling tentacled horror erupts. It has several long long tentacles three of the four covered in barbs while the fouth seems to be where it keeps its cluster of eyes. What can be seen of the body is round like a huge potato, set upon tree trunk-like legs. The mass splits open like a grinning Jack-O-Lantern revealing a set of terrible teeth like stalactites.

It bellows like and ox, swings its great mass and chomps its teeth in Numalar direction!

Tentacled toothsome terror! Each PC may make one Knowledge (dungeoneering) check and open all the spoilers their result allows below.

Knowledge (dungeoneering) DC 14+:
The creature is horrible sewer-dwelling aberration known as an Otyugh. This one appears to be a mutant as it has three grasping tentacles rather than the normal two.

Knowledge (dungeoneering) DC 19+:
Otyughs are intelligent and live in the most poisonous places (sewers, middens, mires, magical toxic waste dumps, where they live on carrion, and 'waste', making them popular allies for many savage dungeon-dwelling species.

Knowledge (dungeoneering) DC 24+, OR Knowledge (dungeoneering) DC 19+, plus a Heal check DC 12+:
Naturally they are immune to disease though they in turn make excellent carriers for several maladies.
This otyugh appears to be half-starved.

Now now these are civilized lands, it would be a 'nightsoil golem'.

I'll go with it. Neither the otyugh nor the bear trap are the source of the entrancement.

Zokon struggles to free himself from the trap and does so. He pries the rusty jaws just wide enough to slip it over his boot.

As Durgan moves forward one of the creature's python-like tentacles lashes out for him. But the hooked appendage finds no purchase on the dwarf's armor.

I take it the "maybe" implies that I could use draconic defense here, but since I was flat-footed I don't think I can take immediate actions to respond. If I can, I happily will.

Numalar tries to concentrate on a spell as the tentacled creature approaches. He focuses, and then shouts "Qa' quv!", and a tongue of flame pours from his mouth onto the otyugh.

Yeah, I finally got around to researching the ruling on immediate actions. Numalar takes 9 points of damage.

Maybe, correct, and no. The captivation lingers one round beyond the song, however a big aberration-thingie attacked the group allowing everyone a new save for that final round.

Yeah, I will use windy escape draconic defense. Is the constrict damage a separate attack? I would think that normally since the grab ability is part of the initial attack and the constrict is part of the grab, they would all be one attack, and DR would apply to the total.

Technically it is a second attack, with its own attack roll, that it gets to make for free, if it hits with the first attack (not like sneak attack or poison where all the possible damage is all rolled into one attack). Think about it like this its tentacle hits the spot dead on where Numalar was standing until he turned into a whiff of fiery brimstone, and as it was retracting Numalar phased back in a hair too soon at which point the tentacle just wrapped around him.

I'm still captivated, so how does that work with the suggestion? While captivated I can't do much more than defend myself.

Note that if Scarlet can act, she's going to fight that big ugly thing threatening her new friend. She can get the keys later.

Scarlet:
The immediate captivation (from A) is winding down on Scarlet, soon she will just be charmed by A. I don't think there is any real interaction between the two effects. On makes you 'come hither' and the other makes you a new buddy (who you can certainly disobey--for 'their own good'). Had B entranced Scarlet she would have been compelled to leave her new friend behind.

Zokon is the first to draw in front of the next grate. It too contains an aquatic-seeming elven woman. When Zokon arrives the woman lets fly a shaft from the crossbow she has aimed at the grate. Zokon watches as the fletching passes inches from her nose still entranced by her song.

Edit since Scarlet didn't leave her new best friend. ;)

Illthir blows a soft whistle that quickly grow into a small window, blowing over the small cluster that were gathering around the second cell. The refreshing breeze snapped them out of the lure of the weird song.

Casting Reinvigorating Wind. It removes Fascinated + Flat Footed in a 30' cone (among other things). Hopefully this will get everyone back somewhat to their senses.

Yes, sorry we were/are maybe in rounds. I forgot to get the board up, but we can kibitz now.

Reinvigorating wind doesn't actually list captivating song among the effects it cures but it seems like a close enough adjective to fascinate that we'll go with it. End captivation.

I should be cross with you--very cross, but I am not. If we were alone you and I would give you a big jagged scar, right there, to remember me by. Maybe next time."

She blows Zokon a kiss and moves back down the pipe and out of sight.

Oh sorry! I simply thought it was some modified version of Fascinate they used. Ah glad to hear that it worked out anyhow : )

"Good riddance..." Illthir mumbles to herself and clutches her polehammer. The trip to the sewers hadn't been made any better by enchanting aqua elves. Or the tentacly beast. Glad that they were gone - all three of them. What she really didn't want to think about was their exit. Swimming trough this water? Bleh!

Though she was a bit curious about that song. It would be really handy! But that's not for now. She still had that Mite flute to look into too.

"I suppose we have gotten rid of the beast. At least until they find 'another pet in the bog'. But ... I'm not sure if I care if 'Needles' gets snacked on in a week or two." She rubs her poor nose trough her scarf. "We should retrace our steps and check that the way is really clear, just so we can get out of her as soon as possible!"
