The arrows strike the nymph and definitely get her attention. She begins moving towards the manor looking at the window were Erik is posted and casting a spell she sends a bolt of lighning into the window.
damage: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 2) = 8 reflex 18 for half.
The satyr follows her closely and will draw his shortbow and shoot at Erik as well.
attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 281d6 ⇒ 1
Three manor guards move to intercept the nymph but as they approach are blinded by her beauty.
The pixies use entangle to slow those on the ground.
reflex dc 14 or become entangle if your on the ground outside the manor.
your go again
Lyaro Swordstar |
Reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Lyaro dodges the entangle and then if he can he moves upto the Nymph and attacks her non-lethally.
swift action activate Arcane Strike +2 dmg
non-lethal Scimitar: 1d20 + 13 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 13 - 4 = 151d8 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Bleyz |
reflex save: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30
Bleyz seems unaffected by the entangle, (though I think you're still slowed while in it, even if you make the save - and the aoe is like 40' radius, which is huge)
Bleyz |
will save if nec to get to and attack the nymph: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34
(gm - any chance of trying to grapple her this round?)
Bleyz |
If Bleyz can actually get to the nymph this round, here's his contribution to the grapple:
cmb to grapple: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32
Erik Haakon |
Reflex save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
Erik twists as the lightning crackles towards him, minimising the impact. As he does so a small arrow grazes his arm but he barely notices.
DireMerc |
It is very difficult to approach and grab someone without looking at them so every round if you are within 60 feet of her I will say there is a 50% chance you accidentally look at her and need to make a save.
Bleyz saves regardless so no need.
Achren 50 and up will save needed: 1d100 ⇒ 39
Lyaro50 and up will save needed: 1d100 ⇒ 47
Because of the Entanglement Lyaro and Bleyz cant quite make it to the Nymph but they get close (within 30 feet)
Since he is flying Achren does make it and he grabs on to her. She screams and flails about trying to get free.
cmb: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
The Satyr drops his bow and draws a pair of short swords running to place himself between the Nymph and the approaching Lyaro and Achren.
"Bring it on humans! We will reclaim our Oasis!"
Lyall |
"If it's right under their lawn, you may have to deal with the fact that there's no way you'll hold it very long against the city of humans nearby. You'll simply be slaughtered by those less merciful than us."
Achren Brayland |
Achren speaks to the Nymph,
"My lady, we truly wish you no harm. My claws could be shredding you right now, but I do not believe we are enemies. Will you call a truce while we discuss the situation?"
diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Devyhn Rhyker |
From the doorway, Devyhn raises his crossbow and prays to Pharasma that his aim be true and the wound be without mercy.
Casting true strike on his hand crossbow, and using his bane class ability (swift action) to make the bolt fey-bane.
DireMerc |
"Cease fighting" says the Nymph finally.
The others all stop and wait.
The nymph deactivates her blinding beauty ability.
"You wish to speak then we will speak but Anvanory will pay for what he has done. He took our homes to build his own and we will reclaim out land." she says.
"This land is not yours!" says Naila approaching with an escort of a dozen guards.
"It was sold to us legally by the queen of this country" she says
"She is not our queen and this was not her land to sell!" says the satyr.
Devyhn Rhyker |
Devyhn lowers his crossbow, then approaches the nymph and satyr.
He stops to stand between Naila and the nymph, looking back and forth between the two. Finally, he turns to Naila. "What do you know of the settlement of the oasis? Did your father speak of seizing it from fey creatures?"
DireMerc |
"The fey did not make themselves known until after the manor was built and even then they simply sent an emissary to demand that we leave this place forever, of course we ignored him." replies Naila.
"You think we cant defend ourselves? True we did not expect such a strong resistance but you haven't seen our true strength yet! We have the portal to the first world. If the one who is many decides you are a treat she...him?...They will unleash the Jabberwock and you will see who is laughing then!" says the satyr
"Allan! We do not speak of such things!" says the nymph
knowledge the planes or arcana or history.
DireMerc |
The First World is so called because it is believed to be the gods first draft of a subsequent plane that would later split into the Material Plane and the Shadow Plane. It is coterminous with the Material Plane and the Shadow Plane, but exists outside the standard cosmology, being somehow “behind” the other two planes. It is the birthplace of the fey race and were the most powerful fey reside.
The First World is an infinite plane of constantly varying wilderness, with trees as tall as mountains, living bodies of water, and travelling faerie courts. It epitomises the chaos of birth and fertility. Conditions vary dramatically from place to place. What would be considered to be laws of nature on the Material Plane are no more than local by-laws in the First World, and even these by-laws can be overturned (even unconsciously) by those with sufficient willpower. Times and distances are unreliable in the First World.
Areas of stability do occur. In some cases this is apparently a random event; a current of stability flows through the First World, leaving behind an area of certainty which might range from a narrow trail a pace or two wide up to a vast swathe hundreds of miles across. These stable zones eventually decay back into the natural uncertainty of the First World, a process which might take hours or centuries. It may be that these are gradually increasing in duration.
More commonly, stable areas exist where there is a connection to the Material Plane. Stability seeps into the First World at these points, much to the disgust of the locals, who seek to repair the damage and punish those they consider to be responsible.
Of course, this is a two-way process. The fertility of the First World also flows through the connection into the Material Plane, with unpredictable results often causing lush jungles in the surrounding area.
The jabberwock is not a creature of the Material Plane, but one from the primal world of the fey. It comes from a region of reality where life is more robust, where emotions are more potent, and where dreams and nightmares can come alive. Even in such incredible realms, though, the jabberwock is a creature to be feared. It belongs to a category of powerful Creatures whose shapes and types run the gamut of possibility—a group known collectively as the “Tane.” Of the Tane, the jabberwock is said to be the most powerful, but the others in this grouping are far from helpless. Said to have been created as goliaths of war and madness, dreamt and stitched into being by the strange gods of this primeval reality, the Tane are as mysterious as they are powerful.
When a jabberwock comes to the Material Plane, it does so to spread destruction and ruin. Typically, the monster seeks out a remote forest lair at least a day’s flight from civilization, then emerges from this den once a week to seek out a new place to destroy. It has no true interest in amassing treasure, but often gathers objects of obvious value to bring back to its den in order to encourage heroes to seek it out—to a jabberwock, it makes no difference whether it seeks out things to destroy or lets those things come to it.
Devyhn Rhyker |
Knowledge, planes: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (14) + 16 = 30
"Beware the jabberwock, my son, the jaws that bite the claws that catch..." Devyhn recites reflexively.
He turns to speak with the nymph.
"In this world, deserts are most inhospitable to life. Oases such as these are essential to survival. Is there no compromise that could be made, where mortal and fey could coexist in peace?"
Lyaro Swordstar |
kn planes: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31
kn arcana: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (1) + 16 = 17
"Oh Goody we're in the middle of a conflict"
Lyaro listens in to all that is said and seems to be running over thoughts in his head, he finally nods and starts speaking
"Good Lady, maybe you and Master Anvanory can come to an accord, he currently is in a spot of bother, i'm pretty sure he would be well disposed towards you ownership if you were able to use you powers to help rather than destroy and you dn't get into a fighting conflict this way"
Lyaro looks at Naila pointedly.
DireMerc |
"Faldus is dead?" says the nymph.
"No matter retribution must be had against all who still trespass on our lands. You burned it. You burned an entire grove and planted wheat. Wheat! Instead of thousand year old trees!"
"No matter lets take them to Lamasara and turn them in to the authorities for arson and attempted murder. The queen will send troops to clear out the rest once she hears of this." says Naila.
"Shyka is not to be trifled with mortal. She is one of the eldest and this garden is hers. If she learns that we have lost the garden to humans her wrath will be unleashed and there is nothing we can do to stop it."
Lyall |
"Does wheat have some less lease on life than trees in your book? Are a thousand short lives less valuable than one a thousand longer? Could we compromise, I don't know, by making a garden around and in the fields at certain points? Make the prettiest farming field ever made?"
"If I were you lot, I'd be worried that said wrath would fall on you as well for losing the garden to a dead man. I mean, how long has it been since he took it over, and you're only noticing or doing anything about it NOW? The trees are already dead, and barring a LOT of diamonds and a VERY potent druid, I don't see that changing."
Devyhn Rhyker |
"So do you propose to express your outrage at death and destruction with death and destruction, then? If you press your attack, the oasis will not survive the war. You will have claimed, at best, a Pyrrhic victory. We are willing to listen, and we are willing to sue for peace and compromise on your behalf. Is it not better to share the oasis than to rule over a smoking hole in the earth?"
Achren Brayland |
"So, you were quite happy for them to trespass until they burned the trees, meaning that trespass is not the issue, the trees are. Naila? was it known that the trees were sacred to the First World? Who sold you the rights to the Oasis and did they pass that on? or were they trying to stir up trouble by not mentioning it? How long ago were the trees destroyed? Was it your people that destroyed the trees? When was it done?"
DireMerc |
"My father wanted to plant crops and there was no room so we had the workers clear a space." says Naila.
"You had no right" says the nymph.
A dryad walks up to the group. "Those trees were our homes. Most of us moved deeper into the forest and bonded new trees but some of us didn't make it out." she says.
"...I didn't know...sigh...We aren't leaving but until my father is returned to life you have my word no more trees will be warmed. Once he is back we can discuss this matter further." says Naila who seems somewhat disturbed by this news.
"...This is acceptable but this is not over you will need to speak to our leader and make things right with her but we will give you some time to prepare." says the nymph.
The fey make their way back towards woods.
DireMerc |
You head back towards the manor.
"I apologise for getting you involved in that but without your help this would have gone far worst than it did. I will see to it that you are compensated for your efforts." says Naila.
In the meantime Lyall gets a message delivered by a small bird. It's from Reginar the venture captain of the pathfinder society. "Arkon has run into some problem in the Mwangi expanse and needs help. He got involved in a dispute between the Aspis consortium and some wilds elves and was captured. They are holding him prisoner. They will only negotiate with another elf and you are the only one in the region. If you are able write a reply on the back of this note and return it to the messenger. Then take a ship from Lamasara to Bloodcove I have an agent that will meet you there with the details."
Lyall |
Lyall's eyes brighten considerably at the prospect of working with Arkon again, and does not hide his enthusiasm all that well.
"Farewell gentlemen, it has been.. an eventful journey with you all. May we meet again at the center of the world. Or some other such poeticness." Lyall doesn't seem all to sincere, but not altogether insincere either. Which for him, is a pretty good first step.
Lyall departs.
Bleyz |
May you live in interesting times.
Achren Brayland |
"I think the fey leader will still want to speak to Lady Naila. Agreements would only be binding if done with her. I doubt we would be able to pacify them alone, though it may be interesting to see if they have any insight into our investigation. Perhaps an amicable agreement may induce them to disclose what they know."
