Irakelesh |
Irakelesh sighs in frustration that the team can't seem to hit this new creature. "Hey guys, watch this!" He grabs a small flask from his belt. With his thumb he pops off the wax seal on the tiny flask and chugs the contents. Almost instantly Irakelesh doubles in height and thickness. He grins a mischievous grin at the creature. "Ok. Let's play now!"
He swings his morningstar, which also grew magically, at the monster.
morningstar,enlarged: 1d20 + 1 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 + 1 - 1 = 16
damage,enlarged: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 2) + 1 = 5
extract of enlarge person. Strength +2, Dexterity -2, -1 attack rolls, -1 AC
GM Pendrak |
Irakelesh and Aliva are still unable to touch the nasty creature.
"You think I'll fear you just because you doubled in size? Fools, fools!" screams the doru.
Fitliss Phitzinger |
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (18) - 4 = 14 Think that beats her DC, I’m going to act as if it does, correct me if I’m wrong
Fitliss finally gets back up on wobbly legs. He loses his balance for a moment, but manages to prevent another total fall. ”How are you guys doing up there?!” he calls worriedly. ”I would help, but I really need to go to the mausoleum!”
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (11) - 4 = 7
Reflex: 1d20 ⇒ 20
GM Pendrak |
So Fitliss was able to stand, but then couldn't move, but then didn't fall down again, right?
Fitliss Phitzinger |
Yes. Although, he probably didn’t have enough movement left after standing to try and move, so that second roll was kind moot anyways.
GM Pendrak |
I'll give G'nock and Ai'sha some more time to jump in in case they want to do anything different, otherwise I'll roll for them soon, just continuing their line of attack. If it makes you feel any better, this is basically the mini-boss of Act 2 of 3, so it's meant to be fairly hard.
Ai'sha |
"See, Irakelesh? Even this stupid thing thinks you're a fool!", Ai'sha strikes again.
Attack(AS, BA): 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 2 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 8
GM Pendrak |
Point Blank Shot: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 181d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
G'nock sends another arrow wide. The creature continues its relentless assault on Irakelesh.
Bite attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 291d4 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 11d2 ⇒ 1
Crit confirm: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 261d4 ⇒ 4
This time the floating head manages to bite Irakelesh on the shoulder, close to his neck.
Irakelesh takes 5 points of damage from a critical hit. Another DC 15 Fortitude save or 1 point of Wisdom damage. You guys are back up.
Irakelesh |
"Owww! You're really starting to annoy me!" The constant smile slips from Irakelesh's face for a moment. He swings with his morningstar once again but flails wildly in the air.
morningstar,enlarged: 1d20 + 1 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 1 - 1 = 5 Ugh.
Fitliss Phitzinger |
I assume I’m still running. More importantly, I have a life link to Irakeleah, so I should actually have all that damage.
G'nock |
G'nock advances on the creature, dropping his bow and drawing out his morningstar ... "Drop that fool, beast!"
morningstar: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 swish ...
Aliva Kulthane |
Aliva shakes off her run of bad luck, "Milani I know I am far from your attention right now in this land but I beseech your aid. Grant your faithful follower your aid in smiting this creature."
Morning Star: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 221d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
GM Pendrak |
G'nock tries the morningstar, but has no better luck. Aliva manages to strike the beast with her morningstar, but it seems to be resistant to the damage, and nothing goes through.
Yeah, Fitliss would still be heading for the mausoleum I'd say. More acrobatics checks.
Fitliss Phitzinger |
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (8) - 4 = 4
Fitliss slips once more and falls. ”Why did you to cast this spell, Ai’sha?” the stuck gnome mutters to himself.
GM Pendrak |
Ai'sha slashes at the div with her scimitar once more.
Scimitar, arcane strike and battle dance: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 251d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Crit confirm: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 161d6 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Oooh, almost a crit.
She delivers a powerful blow, once more showing that the creature can bleed.
Doru HP 17/20
For anyone doing the math I made a mistake on the total HP on this thing. I almost made a slight error earlier and Ai'sha's first attack should not have hit, but I'm going to let that one stand. AC is 22, HP total is 20. It is an advanced doru div.
This at least causes the monster to turn it's attention to the bard.
Bite attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 191d4 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 11d2 ⇒ 1
It bites into Ai'sha's leg in a painful chomp.
Ai'sha takes 1 damage and needs to succeed on a DC 15 Fortitude save or take 1 Wisdom damage. You guys are back up. Ai'sha, can you please go through and check when you have a chance how many uses of battle dance you've made in the current day? I know it is at least 3 or 4 in this battle, just curious if you used any with the other GM.
G'nock |
morningstar: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
G'nock is flustered by the way this vile thing is dodging his blows; what does he need to do damage to this creature?
Irakelesh |
Irakelesh swings with his large morningstar again. "I think we're going to have to work smarter, not harder." With a small flash of inspiration Irakelesh tries to alter his descending stroke at the last moment in hopes of getting inside the monster's defenses.
morningstar,enlarged,inspiration: 1d20 + 1 + 1 - 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (12) + 1 + 1 - 1 + (3) = 16
damage,enlarged: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 3) + 1 = 7
GM Pendrak |
Scimitar, arcane strike and battle dance: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 201d6 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (17) - 4 = 13
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (14) - 4 = 10
Bite attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 111d4 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 31d2 ⇒ 2
Ai'sha keeps fighting, but is unable to land a blow.
Fitliss is finally able to stand up, and he makes his way out of the grease.
The monster continues it's relentless assault, trying to bite Ai'sha again, but she dodges it's attack.
By the way, I'm going to be adding a Google Slide to this campaign for maps soon to replace the current map system, just so you know.
Back to you guys.
Doru HP 17/20
AC 22
Fitliss Phitzinger |
Sorry, I’ve been having trouble telling when it’s my turn.
Fitliss shakes himself, trying to get rid of the feeling of the grease. ”Well, that is one experience I don’t want to repeat!” he declares before setting of down the hall for the exit. As he goes, he casts another worried glance over his shoulder back up the stairs towards the sounds of fighting and frustrated shouting. Right, it’s that building outside with steps down?
GM Pendrak |
Yep, the stairs at B4 lead down to it. Posted the wrong link for the downstairs.
Irakelesh |
"Well, we all seem to be very good at missing this thing." Irakelesh grunts as he swings his morningstar at the creature again.
monrningstar,enlarged,inspiration: 1d20 + 1 + 1 - 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (17) + 1 + 1 - 1 + (3) = 21
damage,enlarged: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 5) + 1 = 10
GM Pendrak |
Fitliss makes his way over and pushes the doors open, revealing the daylit courtyard.
Meanwhile upstairs G'nock and Irakelesh are both unable to hit the creature, though barely for Irakelesh.
As Aliva calls out for a tactical withdrawal, Ai'sha takes one last cut at the creature.
Scimitar, arcane strike and battle dance: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 141d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Crit confirm (if needed): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 231d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Scimitar AoO, battle dance: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 201d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Crit confirm (if needed): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 201d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
The doru laughs manically.
"Oh, hoho, you'll not escape so easily! And I'll not be trapped," it says, as it flies across the room, and once out the door, it bites Aliva.
Bite attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 281d4 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 01d2 ⇒ 1
Aliva takes 1 damage and needs to make a Fort save or take 1 Wisdom damage. Irakelesh, G'nock (natural weapon), and Aliva get attacks of opportunity against the doru, then it will be your guys turn again.
Aliva Kulthane |
Morning Star: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 71d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Fort Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Man we suck at hitting anything
Aliva grunts at the thing bites her and as her own weapon misses terribly
Irakelesh |
Well, a 21 doesn't hit? The best I can roll is a 21 so I guess my only chance is a crit or flanking. I have no other attacks that can fare any better. I think G'Nock is the only one who will have a chance.
Irakelesh swings at the creature as it moves away from him. Then he follows the creature and tries to hit it from the back.
monrningstar,enlarged: 1d20 + 1 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 + 1 - 1 = 13
monrningstar,enlarged,flanking: 1d20 + 1 + 1 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 1 + 1 - 1 + 2 = 22
damage: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 4) + 1 = 7
I think that's a hit! Does my "enlarged weapon" count as a magical weapon to bypass DR?
GM Pendrak |
I think that's a hit! Does my "enlarged weapon" count as a magical weapon to bypass DR?
AC is 22, so that does hit, but it doesn't do any damage. It's DR 10/cold iron, so you'd have to use a cold iron weapon to do normal damage.
Irakelesh and Aliva are both unable to capitalize on the creature's reckless move.
GM Pendrak |
Stealth: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Perception: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (9) - 2 = 7
Stealth: 1d20 ⇒ 11
Perception: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (15) - 2 = 13
Bite attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 291d4 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 21d2 ⇒ 2
Bite crit confirm: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 261d4 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
As Fitliss walks out into the garden on the way over to the mausoleum, he thinks he might hear something moving, but at a glance he sees nothing. But as he gets closer to the mausoleum doors, he hears it again, a skittering on the sand, and as he turns, he sees the most enormous centipede he has ever seen, a monstrosity with a lashing, whip-like, double-tail.
Meanwhile upstairs, G'nock swats at the doru as it passes. The div cackles and bites into Aliva's neck, sending sprays of blood everywhere.
Aliva takes another 5 points of damage, and 2 Wis unless she makes her Fort save.
The giant whiptail centipede will act at the bottom of initiative, so right before the doru.
You guys are back up.
Fitliss Phitzinger |
Fitliss turns at once, spear thrusting out. Iomedae, grant that I can defeat this thing alone.
Longspear: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 81d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
GM Pendrak |
I think I messed up the link to the downstairs map. It's possible that Fitliss will want to rethink that when he sees the map, and actually I don't think he can get to the creature to reach it with the longspear. This is a truly massive giant centipede, and it crawled out of the dried up pool here.
Edit: Map has been upgraded to Google Slides. It should be editable by anyone, so from now on if you want you can move your own guy on the map. Link is by my name.
Ai'sha |
I don't have the time to go back and look at my spell and battle dance usage, but I believe Ai'sha is out of resources at this point.
Also, I can't move my token at the map, it is view only at this points
Ai'sha moves toward the Doru and strikes again.
Attack(AS): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 Confirm?: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 Urgh!
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 1 = 9
GM Pendrak |
Also, I can't move my token at the map, it is view only at this points
Map should be editable now.
Ai'sha hits, but again the damage is not enough to go through the creature's strange defenses.
Fitliss Phitzinger |
Oh. Fitliss eyes the centipede around the corner, preparing himself for an attack while getting into position for a dash to the mausoleum.
Readied Longspear: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 211d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Irakelesh |
I don't see how we get through this one. None of us have cold iron so it is very difficult to do any damage on the Doru. I don't think Fitliss can handle the centipede by himself but none of the rest of us know that it's there. I think we should seriously consider running away...
Irakelesh moves forward to the Doru and swings his morningstar at it again.
morningstar,enlarged: 1d20 + 1 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 + 1 - 1 = 20
damage,enlarged: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 2) + 1 = 6
Aliva Kulthane |
Well I announced the plan then it flew out the door and will just follow us along.
"Milani grant me your strength" Aliva's muscles harden as she glows with a bright green light.
Divine Favor with a fervor point to cast swiftly.
Morning star: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 1 = 71d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 1 = 4
Irakelesh |
Yeah, I saw that. But maybe we can lure it back into the room and then get out and close the door. Maybe... Or maybe someone will find a cold iron weapon just laying around.
GM Pendrak |
Just out of curiousity I went back and as far as I can tell you guys did find 10 cold iron arrows (in the first tomb) and 5 cold iron arrows (from the sandman). Or at least you should have. I'm not sure who would have them.
GM Pendrak |
The other problem would be that no one made the knowledge check, so no one knows about the creature's damage reduction, or at least what specifically overcomes it. It could be silver, adamantine, or pineapple that overcomes it for all you know.
Also, I'm going to go ahead and say due to the dangers present currently, that going into the mausoleum right now is "obviously harmful" or at least unreasonable, which would negate the suggestion, so Fitliss can act as he pleases now. Also the centipede has 15 ft. reach (20 with tail-slap) so the readied longspear wouldn't be of any use.
It might be best to retreat and regroup.
Fitliss Phitzinger |
Fitliss blinks, eyeing the giant centipede. What am I doing, abandoning my friends like this?! Without another thought, he dives back into the mansion, hobbling at a full run for the stairs.
GM Pendrak |
Waiting on G'nock. Meanwhile, you guys should make a plan as to what you will do next.
GM Pendrak |
With things turning against them, Pharasma's Seekers beat a hasty retreat. Thankfully the doru doesn't pursue the larger part of the group as it flees downstairs, and the giant centipede in the courtyard can't make it into the doors, so Fitliss also escapes. Together the group runs down the dusty street of the necropolis, back to the Living City of Wati.
Okay, so for equipment you've got the Sunburst Market, but for scholarship (to figure out what you were dealing with) you'll need to make a Knowledge (local) check or a Diplomacy check to ask around.
Irakelesh |
"Well, this is a messy situation. Let's see what we can find out about that thing. I'll ask around." Irakelesh approaches a pretty, young woman, "Excuse me miss. I must say, if we had women as pretty as you back home, I never would have left." He flashes her his most charming smile. "I'm new around here and have some questions. Do you have a moment?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (19) + 0 = 19
GM Pendrak |
The beautiful ebon-skinned Garundi woman in a blue silk dress with golden vines sewn in stops and looks at the Keleshite investigator, "What can I do for you?" she says, smiling brightly.
