GM Pendrak
After a few more feeble attacks from Selassie, Fitliss and G'nock, Ai'sha tries her hand. She slashes at the creature from behind, and although she hits it, she cannot overcome the strength of its material.
Scimitar attack using Arcane Strike: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 + 2 = 16Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
The water continues to flow out of the northern chamber, and it reaches a depth of about one-and-a-half feet.
The sarcophagus turns towards Ai'sha and attacks her.
Slam: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Slam: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Map should be the same, unless Aliva wanted to 5 ft. step into melee with the thing. You guys are up again (Aliva already acted this round though, and should wait until the monster goes again before acting). Selassie has 2 more rounds of air.
Fitliss Phitzinger
Fitliss keeps stabbing, looking around for something he can use.
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 12
Longspear: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 131d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Not looking for anything in particular, just anything Fitliss thinks could be used to advantage against this thing.
Irakelesh
What type of knowledge check could I use to find out about this thing?
"We are not making a dent in this thing at all. We just need to keep attacking." Irakelesh takes aim with his shortbow once more and lets the arrow fly.
shortbow,point-blank shot, into melee: 1d20 + 1 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 - 4 + 1 = 16
damage,pbs: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Ai'sha
I leave for one weekend and everyone is in trouble already!? :p
"Yeah! Try headbutting it, Irakelesh, i'm sure your head is harder than this thing is!"
Ai'sha changes her stance into a lighter one and her footwork starts resembling a dance as she once again attacks the creature.
Attack(Battle Dance, Arcane Strike): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

GM Pendrak
What type of knowledge check could I use to find out about this thing?
It would be Knowledge (arcana), as it is a construct. Out of character, similar to the dolls it has hardness 5, so adamantine would be the only way to ignore it. Fitliss doesn't see anything of particular use against this thing. Ai'sha and Fitliss miss, Selassie hits but does no damage because of hardness. However, Irakelesh does deliver a hit, and actually gets some damage through. I'll give G'nock a bit more time to take his turn, then it will be back on the construct.
Selassie has 1 turn of air. Water is at 2 ft., causing the room with the exception of the dais to become difficult terrain, causing half movement, and preventing charge, run, 5 ft. step, etc.
Selassie 15
Sarcophagus 14
A'isha 11
Fitliss Initiative 7
G'nock 4+
Irakelesh 4
Aliva (delayed)
Construct HP: 34/36
G'nock
|
G'nock takes another shot:
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
This is very different from his training; the patient instructor, the straw targets.
Yeah, and the sun was in my eyes. I do not like this "dice" tag you have taught me ...
GM Pendrak
The construct seems to be drawn by the one attack that has hurt it so far, and moves up and around, passing by Ai'sha and moving towards Irakelesh and G'nock. It seems slowed by the water, and can't quite make it there, but it looms up threateningly before them.
From the inside of the sarcophagus, Selassie maintains her resolve, but it is becoming difficult to breathe. She realizes she may soon need to hold her breath. She can feel the creature moving, and is rattled around a bit.
Ai'sha and Fitliss get attacks of opportunity. Then everyone can take their turns again. Water is at 2 ft., causing the room with the exception of the dais to become difficult terrain, causing half movement, and preventing charge, run, 5 ft. step, etc.
Ai'sha
"You stupid thing, don't move away!", Ai'sha strikes as the sarcophagus starts moving away, and then swings again after walking towards it.
AoO(Arcane Strike, Battle Dance): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Attack(Arcane Strike, Battle Dance): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
GM Pendrak
Ai'sha slices at the creature as it moves away, and a chunk of stone goes flying off. She then follows it, and hits it again, but the second time she is unable to crack through.
Ai'sha hits both times, but only the first one does enough damage to go through hardness.
Fitliss Phitzinger
AoO: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 171d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Fitliss hurrys towards the sarcophagus, his short, stunted legs making little headway.
Not sure of how full move works, is it doubled before or after difficult terrain. If before, Fitliss moves 15 feet, if after, he moves 10
Irakelesh
"Way to go Ai'sha! I saw a big piece fall off of that thing. Do that again!"
Irakelesh sees the sarcophagus move in his direction. "Uh oh. I think it's coming our way G'nock." He loops his shortbow around his shoulder and pulls out his morningstar. "I think I'm going to need this."
Two actions: put away weapon, wield weapon
G'nock
|
G'nock takes another shot (longbow, point blank):
Hit: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 4 + 1 = 16
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
To Irakelesh: "I do not think your people hold their breath so well as we; how long does she have in there?"
Selassie Radwan
Selassie lashes out with increasing desperation at the insides of the construct
attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
but is unable to balance well enough to hit
GM Pendrak
As G'nock fires his bow, the creature takes the opportunity to lash out at him.
Slam: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
It then tries to bite G'nock, and tries to slam him again.
Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Slam: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Fitliss and G'nock both hit, but deal no damage. Aliva and Selassie miss. G'nock takes 8 damage from the bite, and 6 damage from the slam, and is rendered unconscious at -1 HP. Selassie holds her breath. She has 28 rounds before she will begin to suffocate. Thankfully, the water seems to have ceased rising. You guys are up.
Irakelesh
"G'nock!" Irakelesh reacts in shock and steps forward towards the construct. He swings his morningstar with as much strength as he can.
Morningstar,flank: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Fitliss Phitzinger
"Yowch!" Fitliss grunts in pain as the link saps his vitality to heal G'nock. "That was worse than it looked!" he continues slogging towards the sarcophagus, laying a hand on himself with a prayer to Iomedae.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
G'nock is at 4, Fitliss's health remains the same.
Aliva Kulthane
I am out of healing spells
Aliva takes a breath calming her nerves, lining up her shot she takes aim and releases an arrow.
short bow + PBS: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 161d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
G'nock
|
G'nock struggles to his knees, uncertain where this new vitality arose from. Half crawling, half swimming, he attempts to get some distance from the thing, so that he can again use his longbow.
GM Pendrak
Neither Irakelesh nor Aliva are able to hit the creature, the latter because of the cover provided by her own allies. G'nock manages to crawl away and stand up, picking up his bow as he does so.
Selassie and Ai'sha get their turns, and then the monster is up again.
GM Pendrak
The animated casket focuses its attacks on Irakelesh.
Slam: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
The creature slams down on Irakelesh, knocking the air out of him. The creature's bite also finds purchase in his shoulder, rending flesh.
Ouch. Irakelesh takes a total of 9 damage, and you guys are back up. I'm really hoping things turn your guys way soon, because this has been ridiculous.
Irakelesh
Irakelesh nearly collapses as the casket slams into him, wounding him grievously. He takes a 5 foot step back away from the casket and downs a potion of healing.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Five foot step SW, then CLW potion put me back up to full health.
GM Pendrak
There is nowhere to 5 ft. step to avoid an AoO while drinking the potion, do you want to try an Acrobatics check to tumble back past Fitliss, or risk the attack?
Irakelesh
Can I do a perception, or knowledge(arcana), to see how injured it is?
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Knowledge(arcana): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16 untrained so max 10
GM Pendrak
Yes, you could use a Perception, but you didn't make it. I'd venture a DC 15+CR would tell you if it is closest to 100%, 75%, 50%, 25% or 0% health, while a DC 20+CR would tell you 100%, 90%, 80%, and so on. I'll say you can do it once per turn as a free action. Now, did you want to provoke, or try the Acrobatics?
GM Pendrak
Slam: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
The creature smashes Irakelesh over the back of the head as he tries to tumble away.
This keeps getting worse and worse. Irakelesh takes 8 damage before he gets away. If someone wants to grab the potion Irakelesh had in hand and pour it down his throat, we can use the maximum roll that he got for 9 healing, but for now, Irakelesh is at -7.
GM Pendrak
Fitliss, Ai'sha, G'nock, and Selassie can act. Oh, by the way, the water seemed to stop increasing at the 2-foot mark. The deathtrap seems to have been designed to fill the room and drown you, but perhaps because of age it worked defectively (and that isn't me giving you a break, that is how it is in the adventure).
Fitliss Phitzinger
"If you don't mind Irakelesh, I'm just going to get your alchemist's fire out of your backpack," Fitliss says, rummaging around inside of the prone man's pack before retrieving the flask and handing it to G'nock. "Here you go!"
I'd somehow justify that, but I have no idea how. Gave it to him because I'm pretty sure it would be a standard action to pull out that flask, so I can't use it.
Ai'sha
Ai'sha stepts toward the construct once again, returning to her dance-like footwork and delivering a shoulder-powered slash to the creature.
Attack(Arcane Strike, Battle Dance, Flank): 1d20 + 2 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 + 2 + 2 = 25
Confirm Crit?: 1d20 + 2 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 + 2 + 2 = 23
Damage(Arcane Strike): 1d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 1 = 7
Critical(Flame of the Dawnflower): 1d6 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 1 + 2 = 6
"Take that! Stupid sarcophagus! Let Selassie go if you don't want another one!"
GM Pendrak
Ai'sha delivers a mighty blow to the creature, drawing its attention away from her injured allies.
Meanwhile, Selassie tries once more to bust out of the creatures chest, with no such luck.
Light mace: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
G'nock launches another arrow at his foe, striking it in a weak spot.
Longbow Point Blank Shot: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
The sarcophagus lurches towards Ai'sha, swinging its massive arms down at her once more, and leaning in to bite.
Slam: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
She dances around the creatures attacks.
You guys are up.
Selassie 4/10 HP, 26 rds. of holding breath
Sarcophagus 19/36 HP
Ai'sha 8/10 HP
Fitliss 8/10 HP
G'nock 4/13 HP
Irakelesh 2/10 HP
Fitliss Phitzinger
G'nock still hasn't gone, and he is the one with the fire.
Fitliss takes another stab at the thing. "At least the water stopped," he says cheerfully
Longspear: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 141d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
GM Pendrak
I rolled for G'nock, but I forgot about the alchemist's fire. He'll use it this turn, he got in a pretty good hit anyway with the bow that time.
GM Pendrak
Since Irakelesh was knocked unconscious he did not move. However, if you want to wait for Ai'sha to go, and if she 5 ft. steps north after attacking, the monster will likely follow, unless someone else does a lot of damage in the interim. That way you don't provoke for standing up.
G'nock
|
"I hope this is the weapon I think it is," says G'nock to Fitliss.
G'nock hurls the Alchemist's Fire:
1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 4 + 1 = 16
Ai'sha
Ai'sha attacks once again, changing her stance from an agressive high guard to a more conservative "plow" guard and stepping back as the construct seem set on attacking her.
Attack(Arcane Strike, Battle Dance, Expertise): 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 1 + 2 = 23
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 1 + 2 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 1 = 4
Crit Damage?: 1d6 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 1 + 2 = 6
5ft step north after attacking
