Nice. Perhaps Farhaan could have sent me in your general direction!

That works. I was waiting for either Aleris or Turel to post in gameplay so that I could let them know that we had been abandoned. :(
My plan had been to beg Farhaan to hold our friend's rooms for a few days (seeing as we'd all paid for the week) so that we could have a place to stash our new recruits once we recruited them.
So Farhaan would definitely know what we're looking for.
I'm looking forward to hosting interviews for all of you in gameplay at some point, once we finish up Razor.
:)
Hmm
Kito the Scholar |
Samy,
If it will work for you, I think that I would like Terhk Fourwinds as my social contact. He would have used me as interpreter and translator.
The others I was thinking of were either the member of the Fading smuggler group or one of the two free-lancer fixers. Similar reasons, although it would be more about reviewing "found cargo manifests".
I can see this character being somewhat flexible about legality, but not getting into something that would hurt others.
Kito the Scholar |
Kito gives a resigned sigh and then fetches a few bits of dried fruit from her pocket for Thera. She holds it out for the bird to eat from her fingers.
Ra-Khefer |
As far as contacts go, I'm thinking Tarouk of the City Guard.
As watch commander of a precinct of the Wati City Guard, he is friendly, but unable to give Ra-Khefer more than a glorified mall cops job. So far.
Deseri |
I see this game came back to life is there a chance I could still be in the running for a spot with my little Oracle?
Harmose Al-Nefer |
Uh oh. Deseri's coming back? Harmose is in TROUBLE...
Deseri |
Well you were the one that brought me into this lovely game. It will be fun, don't worry ;) I always seem to be the naïve and oblivious one where you are concerned
Samy is there anything I need to do to my little oblivious Oracle?
Harmose Al-Nefer |
Oh, I know it will be fun. You're adork-able. Twitchy's never been able to resist her Ronk, and I think that Deseri has just as much mischief potential.
Aleris is right. Harmose will implode under the strain...
Kito the Scholar |
I don't think you will implode.
It is more likely you will get into trouble if you allow instinct to take over. Just calm yourself and think. Surely your magical training wasn't completely devoid of any training in how to think, right?
Harmose Al-Nefer |
What magical training?

Shush, Thera! No making trouble here.
Have some bugs and berries...
Kito reaches into a pouch and brings out a mixture of dead insects, dried fruit, and seeds that she hand feeds to the bird.
Aleris Somciel |
Deseri! Oh, this gets better and better >:)
I imagine our imaginary audience will be doing a lot of this during the course of our game...
Turel Garaldo |
First Regina...then Aleris..now Deseri...
I think Harmose won't be the first one to implode here... :P

But what a wonderful way to go
Entranced by a bouncy vision
It is one of the ways you grow
Sadly you take a hit to wisdom!
Samy |
Samy is there anything I need to do to my little oblivious Oracle?
As far as I'm concerned, no.
You might want to coordinate OOCly a little bit with Qari (oracle) and Harmose (a level of oracle in the future) to ensure minimal overlap, but that's just a suggestion, and I don't require that.
How are the rest of you guys coming on with finishing up the old game? Any ETA?
Turel Garaldo |
Yes the other game is just about wrapped up here. I am just waiting on Nefertiti and Zemwaar to finish their conversation then I will post a wrap-up scene.
Then its on to the desert :D
Samy |
Qari, I put you down for the Veins district and Farhaan contact.
Kito, I put you down for Terhk contact.
The following districts I think are still unclaimed:
Necropolis is mostly an off-limits site, and most humans visiting it are either affiliated with criminal gangs (smuggling, graverobbing or whatnot), Pharasma's church (doing ceremonies) or the city guard (patrolling). If your concept could entertain some of those, then Necropolis might be a decent choice.
Bargetown is essentially the slums. Again, people with criminals or city guard in their character concept would fit in well here. Also, coming out of poverty would be an angle that fits this -- having had to live here for an undetermined time because you've been down on your luck.
Outer Farms is what it sounds like. Farmers and herders. I haven't built a lot of background material for this because there were originally only six players so I only concentrated on the six city districts, but it seems like with more players, Outer Farms could come more into play as well.
With us now having eight players and seven districts, I guess we'll either have to double up on one district, or someone will be district-less.
Refreshing the character list, I note that it's starting to look like we're getting six Osirioni, 1 Qadiran and 1 Varisian. Would anyone like to play around with the idea of switching from Osirion to somewhere else? Could be cool to have a bit more "foreigner" color to play with.
Samy |
Please doublecheck your entry on the Character List and let me know what to write down if something is wrong or empty.
Kito the Scholar |
I can switch from Veins to Bargetown if you wish. If I did this, it would be a case of being a little short of money recently. I don't think it would make a big difference in my background.
I would rather stay Osirioni. I think what I have works best with someone local.
Samy |
Kito, I'll put you down for Bargetown, since in an earlier post it seemed like you didn't have a strong preference between Veins and Bargetown, and Qari seemed to have a stronger preference for the Veins. That good for both of you?
Also, here's my solution for the eight-characters-seven-districts problem.
As the Player's Guide mentions, later in the AP you'll do some exploring of Osirion's deserts. I will make the deserts an eighth choice. Someone with the Parched Dunes affinity will be more at home in Osirion's arid, sandy wilderness.
So here are the eight regional affinities:
Morning Sun - the noble district
Midwife - the temple/administrative district
Asp - the commoner district
Bargetown - the slums
The Veins - the industrial/dock district
Necropolis - the crypt district
Outer Farms - the rural district
Parched Dunes - the wilderness
If anyone wants to make a switch with the new option available, just let me know. Otherwise, fight it out amongst yourselves who gets what. ;)

Works for me. In thinking about it, Outer Farms could also work with my background, it would just change what my parents did for a living.
Put me in whichever of those isn't otherwise filled.
Harmose Al-Nefer |
My background is set in Gameplay. I'm Osirioni and with all sorts of noble connections.
Samy |
I should note that the affinities do not necessarily mean you are *from* that region (although you may be). It's just a place that 'clicks' with you, whether or not it plays a significant part in your background. Could well be that you've never been there before (as is likely the case to non Wati natives), but when you walk in for the first time, it just feels right.
Deseri |
Necropolis or Parched Dunes could work for me if you want
Kito the Scholar |
Updated Kito's background for Outer Farms. See if this works for you Samy. Feel free to make suggestions on alternate ways to work the translation and contact into the background.
Kito grew up on the far outskirts of Wati, in the farming area that surrounds it. Her parents ran a small farming supply store that was along one of the routes caravans frequented. She always found the caravans much more interesting than the farms. There she met people that spoke different languages and had tales of far off places. She quickly learned all of the common languages used by the traders along with a few others. New languages always delighted and fascinated her.
Terhk Fourwinds runs one of the caravans that often passed by the store. When he learned of her linguistic talents, he started bringing her texts to translate from the ancient dialect. He would also frequently mention her to any foreigners in need of a translator.
Although a follower of Pharasma, she is not a strongly religious person. She grew up in the religion and hasn't wandered away. She was much more interested in their texts about history than those about spiritual matters.
In her early teens, she found and took in Thera, her 'pet' thrush. Those with a more objective view might say that Thera found her. Taking lessons from the bird, Kito has slowly been growing in arcane learning and magical power.
In addition to the magical lessons Thera provides "her mistress Kito", they share gossip from around town. It is amazing how much the bird overhears.
She has been supporting herself acting as an intermediary between merchants, translating discussions or documents as required. She is always very polite and does her best to be fair in such dealings, although the details of any business deals bore her.
Social contact:
Terhk Fourwinds (male half-orc), owner of Terhk's Fine Expeditions, a caravan company and desert travelers' lodge. She has served as an interpreter and translator for him.

People, I apologize for the delay, but I have been messing around with what to play :D
I think I finnaly nailed it down though - still missing some equipment and traits, and unsure on skill spread, but here are the bare bones (in the alias).
I also already have a background in mind - just need time to write it down.
As for affinities, I am not yet sure.
Polux |
Analysis paralysis is a terrible, terrible thing...
It is horrible :D
Polux |
That puts Kito pining for the farmlands, and we're left with just Erianna's opinion on Necropolis versus Parched Dunes.
For some reason I'm feeling the Parched Dunes more :D
And I think it will fit in better with the background I have in mind.
Qari Falexia |
Okay, I finally got Occult adventures in. I'm just fired up to play a kineticist, especially since we have a ton of oracles now.
Would it be okay if I were to try one, Samy? I'm not sure on what element to try, but I am thinking Aether. I've never played one, so we could all learn together if allowed.
Qari Falexia |
Kick butt! Give me a day or two and I will try to get one put together...thanks for allowing me to try out a brand new class!
If anyone sees any errors with the build as I put it together, please yell at me, and I'll try to get it lined out.
Samy |
No worries, I'm intentionally trying to broaden my own horizons as well. I know zero all about the kineticist, so we'll see how it works out. I'm not going to be policing sheets heavily, so you guys either do it yourselves or communally -- or don't. I'm gonna focus on the storytelling part.
Harmose Al-Nefer |
What you're not going to be a smoking hot flame oracle and get Harmose all hot and bothered?
Phew!
Kineticists are fun. I look forward to seeing what you put together, Gerald!
Samy |
As an unrelated aside, I encourage not to worry about min-maxing your characters. You're gonna be eight, and I'm mostly not going to be adjusting fights, so the combat part of the AP should be on the easy side. So this is going to be an opportunity to play concepts that you may have wanted to play but have had to weed out because they were on the weak side numbers wise.
