Ranger Shalelu |

With Stone's spell clearing the fear from her mind, Shalelu moves back toward the Sandpoint Devil, taking a magic arrow from her quiver, and launches it at the beast with deadly aim. But the arrow sails wide.
Comp. Longbow: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 1 = 121d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 1 = 9

Brandark Plainswalker |

Round 3; Huzza, I will not be headed to riddleport. . . just thistletop now. :)
Brandark reins in Abacus, and turns himself around looking for his dropped lance, and then drawing his axe.
Ho Abacus, we are going to have to do this the hard way.
Hey you hoofie, try someone your own size.
Free action, speak, handle animal. Move action draw axe, swift action challenge the odd looking horsie.
All allies will get a +2 to hit in Melee when I am threatening the Devil

Garrath Tricks the Giants |

Garrath's eyes go wild at the beast, and he swings again, sword thrumming the air.
attack: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26 As above, +2 for Brandark's ability
damage: 3d6 + 17 ⇒ (3, 6, 3) + 17 = 29

Brandark Plainswalker |

Garrath, I won't be threatening it until next round, unless it comes after me. :(

Mazra's BBEG |

The Sandpoint Devil has only once before faced a foe as formidable as Garrath, and that was a Stone Giant. With Garrath Enlarged, he is like a Giant.
The Sandpoint Devil withdraws from combat, flying toward the southeast.
Upper right on map. Garrath, being big, gets an AoO on the beast. Elektra still has an action in the round. Garrath maybe the most powerful 5th level character I have ever seen. Even more powerful than Eleisa. (Wink to Stone.) Unless Garrath manages to take the creature out with its AoO, it will fly 120 feet and be over the woods.
I will recap evening this evening.

Garrath Tricks the Giants |

"Run coward, and know that if you succeed, the same is waiting for you if you ever return to face this company!
attack: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18
damage: 3d6 + 17 ⇒ (4, 6, 3) + 17 = 30

GM Mazra |

Round Three recap
Elektra begins to Summon in a creature. By the way, what are you summoning in?
Orik's swings was futile as was most of his attacks of late. He will make a good town guard.
Shalelu's attack was no different than Orik's. She missed.
Stone anticipated the need and prevented Brandark from visiting Riddleport.
Brandark, the fear erased from his mind, turns Abacus around and draws his axe.
Garrath strikes a deep cut with his over-sized sword into the thick hide of the beast.
The Sandpoint Devil nays in pain from the strike. It decides this is not filling his belly and flies off toward the Southeast.
As the beast begins to fly off, Kelvin sticks an arrow into its leathery hide.
As Lyrie heads to the north, she disappears.
Round Four

Brandark Plainswalker |

Round 4
Seeing the rapidly disappearing woman Brandark pauses
My thanks for restoring my thoughts Stone, may the dawnflower ever be blessed, but now have to ride.
Brandark rescabbards his axe and then rides hard to catch up with Lyrie.
Sorry abacus, I hate to use these on you.
Brandark spurs Abacus on to greater speed trying to catch up to Lyrie, before she rides into trouble.
Oriks rolls were like mine, I just hope that mine continue to get a little better.

Ranger Shalelu |

Shalelu moves, grab another magic arrow and sends another arrow at the fleeing winged horse devil. The arrow hits true, but fails to penetrate the beast's thick hide.
Longbow with Magic Arrow: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 5 + 1 = 201d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 3 + 1 = 10
AC 21, just missed. Does someone provide Shalelu with any additional pumps? :)

GM Mazra |

Further Events
Elektra summons in an Air Elemental. (Token on map.) It flies and catches up with the Sandpoint Devil, but its attacks only harass the wicked beast.
Orik seeing the Sandpoint Devil move further and further away sighs, knowing his skill with a bow is not enough to overcome the growing divide. He notices the commotion to the North and moves in that direction.(Left side of map.)
Shalelu holds back Stone from enchanting her bow, "Save your spell, Cleric. It is getting too far away. At least we now know for sure that this beast is not legend."
Stone saves his spell.
In the growing distance the Sandpoint Devil turns on the pesky Air Elemental and vaporizes it in a cloud of fire. The injured beast continues its flight toward the Southeast.
Brandark doesn't see Lyrie anywhere.
What Lyrie is doing is unknown to the party.
The encounter is essentially over, but you can still have actions, particularly dealing with Lyrie. The map is no longer required. You will have no other encounters should you head on back to Sandpoint.

Brandark Plainswalker |

Brandark reigns in Abacus where he thinks she went missing, and then starts to look around.
KELVIN he yells, come help me track Lyrie, she has disappeared
He then looks around hard to see where her or her horse has gone.
percept: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

Brandark Plainswalker |

She cannot have gotten to far, she was on foot.
Brandark rides up the road a bit, and continues to look around, paying close attention to the dust that has been kicked up.
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

Brandark Plainswalker |

I lost track of her in this area
Brandark holds Abacus still in the area where he thinks he last had sight of her.

Stone will cast
School: Abjuration [Good]
Components: V, S, M/DF
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Touch
Target: Creature touched
Duration: 1 min./level (D)
Save: Will negates (harmless)
Resistance: No; see text
Caster Level: 5
Vs. SR: +5
Concentration Check: +8
Cast Defensively: +8 vs. DC 17
This spell wards a creature from attacks by evil creatures, from mental control, and from summoned creatures. It creates a magical barrier around the subject at a distance of 1 foot. The barrier moves with the subject and has three major effects.
First, the subject gains a +2 deflection bonus to AC and a +2 resistance bonus on saves. Both these bonuses apply against attacks made or effects created by evil creatures.
Second, the subject immediately receives another saving throw (if one was allowed to begin with) against any spells or effects that possess or exercise mental control over the creature (including enchantment [charm] effects and enchantment [compulsion] effects, such as charm person, command, and dominate person). This saving throw is made with a +2 morale bonus, using the same DC as the original effect. If successful, such effects are suppressed for the duration of this spell. The effects resume when the duration of this spell expires. While under the effects of this spell, the target is immune to any new attempts to possess or exercise mental control over the target. This spell does not expel a controlling life force (such as a ghost or spellcaster using magic jar), but it does prevent them from controlling the target. This second effect only functions against spells and effects created by evil creatures or objects, subject to GM discretion.
Third, the spell prevents bodily contact by evil summoned creatures. This causes the natural weapon attacks of such creatures to fail and the creatures to recoil if such attacks require touching the warded creature. Summoned creatures that are not evil are immune to this effect. The protection against contact by summoned creatures ends if the warded creature makes an attack against or tries to force the barrier against the blocked creature. Spell resistance can allow a creature to overcome this protection and touch the warded creature.

Brandark Plainswalker |

At a loss as to how to stop her from running off further, Brandark puts Abacus in front of her, and uses him as a wall to stop her.
Hey the only way that I could keep up with her, is by using Abacus

Garrath Tricks the Giants |

Garrath runs at full speed to try and overtake Lyrie. 40' movement should allow me to catch up fairly quickly

Padre Zantus |

Between Kelvin's tracking, Stone's Dispel Magic spell, Brandark on Abacus and Garrath's speed, Lyrie stops running and submits herself to the party.
She makes no further attempts to flee.
The party makes it back to Sandpoint as the Sun sets over the Old Light.
A horn is sounded at the gates leading North on the Lost Coast road.
One by one the citizens of Sandpoint come out and surround the Heroes, patting them on the back and shaking their hands with cheers and hoorahs.
Father Zantus approaches the party, "Thank goodness! We were fearing the worst. Are you all OK?"

Brandark Plainswalker |

Sheriff, there may be other attacks, but not by the group that attacked here.
Brandark stiffly dismounts and stretches to his whole 4'3"
Ah that feels good to get off and walk for a bit
He then takes the lead for both Abacus, and the found warhorse and leads them to the stables where he will care for both of them.

Garrath Tricks the Giants |

It was time for fighting, and now the fighting is done. The time for fighting is past now is time for RUM! Garrath lets out a whoop and collects the girl that had given him the hair ring and lifts her to a shoulder as he heads to the Rusty Dragon.

Brandark Plainswalker |

Stone, I think you ended up with Calene's horse.

GM Mazra |

Stone, I think you ended up with Calene's horse.
Actually, Orik and Lyrie were on Calene's horse. Stone was on the horse found at Thistletop. You will soon learn that it is called Shadowmist. It is a warhorse. Its original owner was killed by the Thistletop Goblins. It was brought to Thistletop as a trophy for Chief Ripnugget. The Goblins tried to kill it as sport. But instead it killed two Goblins and injured Ripnugget. Ripnugget locked it in the shed where you found it. Ripnugget was hoping to starve it to death. You may recall there were Goblin corpses around the shed. By tomorrow a Speak with Animals and a little putting two an two together will string together this story.

Fair enough, I think I will end up doing that, at the very least to figure out he name of the horse. :)

Good Sheriff Hemlock |

After someone relays the Orik and Lyrie story, Sheriff Hemlock will ask that them to accompany him to the Sandpoint Garrison.
Lyrie looks at Sheriff Hemlock, "I had rather not."
"Oh, I insist," the Sheriff gives a head nod and three other Sandpoint guards approach closer including Zandu, Sargeant of the Guards.
"We are lucky to be alive Lyrie. Nualia was doing bad things, they will want to question us," Orik gently grabs Lyrie's arm and follows Sheriff Hemlock to the Garrison.

I will come to. I always wondered what it would feel like to be Wilber.

Cham the Halfling |

As the horses are stabled at the Goblin Squash for the night, the tired adventurers make their way to the friendly confines of the Rusty Dragon. The Halfling Brathana, excitedly greets the party, "We have a table for you. I will be bringing out Roast Duck cooked with Oranges, the spiced potatoes and carrots. But first Elven Wine for my lady." She will look at Elektra as the party begins to sit themselves. "Dwarven Ale for you," she acknowledges Brandark. "I will bring out a pitcher of the cool fresh spring water," she offers a slight bow to Kelvin. "The local Stout or perhaps something else?" Brathana will inquire of Garrath, the young girl smiling and clinging on to the big Barbarian's shoulder. "And what can I get for you? The Hard Cider perhaps?" the Halfling will look at Stone.
I am using Cham's alias from Giant Slayer for Brathana. It works!

Kelvin Fleetwood |

"Thank you Brathana." Kelvin politely digs into the food, and pours himself a glass of water when it is brought.
When the group is alone, "I am not to happy with this hero bit. It makes us known too far and too wide for my likes."
He reminisces in his mind about his friend Jharym, and the Ulfen men who killed him and were looking for Kelvin now.

Brandark Plainswalker |

Thank you as well, Brathana, but I wish a bath first. Once I am done, I will gladly take you up on your fine fare.
After 20 minutes, Brandark comes back down and rejoins the party.
I for one Kelvin, do not see an issue with that.

Garrath Tricks the Giants |

Garrath lets the girl down with a smile. "I am going to go take a bath. You will be here when I get back" Garrath sets her down on the bench and gets up to go bathe, grabbing a couple steins of ale.

That cider would be just the thing. Thank you. Stone will down his drink then head up to clean the grit from his toes. Why is that a problem Kelvin? Stone will ask when he comes back and starts to eat.
