Part of that might be me bending the rules, using GM fiat? I wasn't doing it consciously, but in my head I think I was trying to put Spock in an aliens movie rather than an alien in a Star Trek episode. Also, there just isn't much information about the science of xenomorphs, so it didn't occur to me that there would be anything to notice in advance. They open when they detect a target, so it wasn't about to open until you guys showed up. Hope that makes sense. Everyone gets a Hero Point in acknowledgement of the Fiat.

Ho-ly shit, it's back up for real, probably?
Bartimaeus comes back from scouting.
"Nothing around outside but some 30 foot tall lizards. They seem nice enough, if you're into that kind."

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I don't know Roland that well, but the rest of you are some of my favorite people on the boards, so I truly do appreciate it. My worklife is crazy this week, but I'll see if I can get things moving.
Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
[ooc[That is pretty crappy, so let's assume that everyone can go before the facehugger. Let's assume that you all have a readied action at least to respond.[/ooc]
A strange sort of crab/spider looking creature with long legs and an especially long whiplike tail emerges from the invasion of the bodysnatchers looking pod. Whatever it is notices you, though it looks without eyes, possibly using some sort of vibrational detection. It doesn't seem to be using sonar, but maybe something thermal?
In any case, it leaps toward Roland.
I'm guessing that Roland will gun the face hugger down. Let's see what happens.

The gunslingers hands move with impossible speed. the bug gun roars several times.
I'll Seize Initiative if needed to go first
Revolver +17: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (8) + 17 = 25
Resistance DC =22 + Multiattack increase the attack’s resistance check DC by +2 for two degrees of success, and +5 for three or more.

Hey, you don't know for sure; it could have a Dodge of less than 2.
Startled by the appearance of something so ugly it could be one of his own kind in their true form, Bartimaeus narrows his eyes to make sure it's not.
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16
Move action, activate my Senses: Senses (0pp): Vision/Hearing Counter Concealment And Illusion (8pp) Check Required: Perception 7 (-4pp), Activation: Move (-1pp)
After satisfying himself it's not just an unfortunate, crazed Spirit breathes a sigh of relief.
"Phew. Not that it would've stopped me from blasting you, but at least I don't have to feel guilty about it." he says, appearing from thin air as a small ball of green flame launches from an outstretched hand at the creature.
Detonation: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Eh, MIGHT hit? It's a Damage 8 effect regardless. Fire trappings.
@Roland: You may need to double check your accuracy/damage bonus. A +17 is illegal for a PL 8 character; you could have at max a +16 to-hit on a damage 0 effect. FOr the Damage 7 your gun says, your attack bonus should be capped at +9 (we're locked to 2*PL for combined Attack roll and Damage effect).
| GM SuperTumbler |
Bartimaeus is correct on the numbers. Attack and Damage bonus are limited to double PL.
Toughness: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
The bullets tear through the alien creature as the ball of fire slams into it, tearing it to pieces and burning the pieces.
Where the fluids from the creature drip and splatter onto the ground, the marble floor hisses and smokes as it dissolves from the powerful acid.
