Sorry about that fight, guys. That one came directly from the mod and I thought it would be cool, but with the paralysis gaze, so many saves, the grappling, and the blood sucking, it did not turn out as I had imagined. It was a chore just to get through it for me, as well as for you, and now it turns most likely into one of those 15 minute days from 3.0 and 3.5, because with all the Con loss, I am sure you are going to rest for a whole day and prepare lesser restorations, etc. I will use better judgment in the future.

Don't stress, I thought it was a great scene. Now Eli has to figure out how to keep his promise and survive. Tough Choices make for great role-playing.

I actually thought it played out well. It was really tough, in some ways one of the toughest encounters we've had.

And if I had played Dumah smarter, it may not have been that devastating. Right now, Dumah is in the mindset of finding treasure so he can track down Haleen again and get her out of debt/trouble. That's making him take chances and be more aggressive than he might otherwise be. But after this thumping, he has every reason in the world to tone it down. After all, he can't help Haleen if he's dead.

I also enjoyed the fight, especially since Jameena got to shine a bit and save people from certain death.

But yeah, this smells a lot like a 5 minute work day. In fact, I would really like to get back to civilization and adjust my gear before we press on. I equipped Jameena without having played her at all, and there are a few items I feel would greatly aid my efforts to keep everyone alive, and contribute more effectively.

It was kind of harrowing, with a couple of us blowing that save right off the bat. Good fight though. The group is kind of in a rough situation, but how we can back off with Eli needing to push on is going to be rough.

Lucendar is the king of knowing just how dangerous to make a fight that pushes us to the brink, but we are just able to press on through! I love these types of battles myself. Nothing ventured, nothing gained so to speak.

We havent had xps awarded in a bit, so maybe we are closing in on another level, too.

Eli, Vardishal's presence in the mod is to push the character toward exploring the underground portions of the House of the Beast without returning to civilization. You can rest without worry as long as you don't wait too long.

Not going to happen till you find the source of the magic.

Yes, I believe this is the sixth or seventh time that I have actually started to draft up my back up character for Dumah. :)

Yeah, I clearly felt the hard, cold touch of rails underneath my feet once Eli went all remote-controlled. No knock on you, though, I understand that is the way the AP is written. I'll make due and keep my eye open for useful items along the way.

Please be aware that I will be out from the 21st - 28th of August, as I will be on a cruise through the Caribbean, so do not fear, I have not abandoned you.

Have a great Trip, we took a cruise for our Honeymoon....it was AWESOME. See you when you get back!

Have a great trip! Thanks for the heads up.

Aye. Hope you have a good time. I took the wife on a cruise for our honeymoon, as MD did, and it was a blast. Relax in the sun with a cold drink in your hand...ahhh, to be back there again.

Male Human Writer 2/Dreamer 7

Awesome...have a great trip.

Sounds awesome Lucendar...have fun.

Just found out today I am going away for the weekend for a bachelor party gaming weekend at a cabin without internet access. I will be gone Saturday through Monday. Sorry for that late notice.

Sounds fun, Mythril. Enjoy and drink a cold one for me (and don't forget to tip the stripper).

Looks like the game is on hold for a while. I'll make sure to check the thread to see when people are back.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 16

Thanks we had a great gaming weekend. NO STRIPPERS, unless you count the Resident Evil Zombie figure we dressed in a Brats doll dress. That was a laugh. I'll check the thread, and anxiously await the return of the DM.

I am back and my cruise was a blast! Though Hurricane Irene cut our excursion to the Bahamas short, the rest was fun and much needed relaxation. Got a nice tan as well. So I am recharged and ready to continue DMing and thanks for your patience!

Male Human Writer 2/Dreamer 7

Yay! Welcome back. Good to hear you had a nice trip (hurricane trouble none-withstanding and all...)

Welcome back, Lucendar! 4 spectres, though? Someone returned in a pissy mood...

hp 61/61, AC 22/15/17, F +13 R +12 W +11 Init: +4, Perception: +0

Not to fret...your friendly neighborhood paladin is here to chase the nasty undead away with a healthy helping of nice, positive energy.

Also, to the best of my recollection specters don't wail. This must be something else, but what...?

Welcome back!

Glances at in play thread.

I think.

I did say Mage Armor was up, right?

Right? ;)

Hey all,

Just to let you know, I am going to be out of town this Wednesday through the following Wednesday. I do not believe I'll have access to a computer, let alone the internet, during this time. Please DMNPC Quzman as needed during this time.

Thanks.

Thanks Snigg, will try to keep you alive.

Bad surprise round for the party! Those die rolls for the saves were awful! Party looks to be in trouble, though that critical did help, a little!

hp 61/61, AC 22/15/17, F +13 R +12 W +11 Init: +4, Perception: +0

It's not fun if it's too easy...and you run a very fun game, Lucendar.

Don't worry, Jameena's got lots of nice healing coming up.

Not a good start at all for the party!

Please assist me with DMPCing Quzman. Any suggestions will be helpful!

How about "Quzman Kills flying horse!" That would be good, don't you think? ;}

Sure, if he could reach him, but he can't!

Frick on a stick....bad time to roll low on to-hit.

I'm very concerned for Ty here.

Tyrone: Sorry for the bad news. I failed the 2 saves for you also when I rolled them. Thought you would do better. We'll see after the fight, if the party survives, what happens.

Quzman: When you get back, your bonuses with the bow are wrong (not +9 as you list them in your profile). +6BA + 3Dex +1 MW = +10/+5

LOL, I figured after those rolls that things might be bad for Ty, DM. That is all part of the game, don't worry about it. If we make it out, the party can talk about what role they might need, or if we want to bring Ty back to the party!

hp 61/61, AC 22/15/17, F +13 R +12 W +11 Init: +4, Perception: +0

I vote some kind of healer! Sarenrae knows I need all the help i can get keeping the rest of you alive.

(I kid, I kid...Pick whatever you like if we can't get Ty back to life.)

Ah yes, the classic healer's lament... panels 4 and 5.

A man in loose fitting robes and a tribal headscarf steps out of nowhere and addresses you in a warm tone, "Greetings fellow travelers. May the sun's blessing be upon you this day! May Sarenrae's light guide your path to glory, fortune and good health! My name is Rahim Al Alam. How may I be of service to you?" Rahim bows deeply as he speaks.

Sorry for the interruption... I just couldn't resist. ;)

That is some tough luck on those save rolls Gerald! :(

Go Sand Stalkers!

I am actually thinking about some sort of witch. Healing and arcane will help alot. With Haste and two meleers, I think damage is probably taken care of, so maybe some debuffing and secondary healing would help.

hp 61/61, AC 22/15/17, F +13 R +12 W +11 Init: +4, Perception: +0

The way Jameena is built, she is going to be hurting more and more to do some serious damage as we face tougher opponents. As it is, her normal, non-smite dmg caps out at 10, which is barely a scratch for most enemies in our CR range, and gods forbid I'd have to overcome some kind of DR. And without 13 STR to get Power Attack or being able to wield two-handed, there's not a lot I can do about it.

I made this post but it disappeared earlier, so I'll try again.

I am thinking three different options, and would like the group's insight on what they would prefer.

A Witch. I would be able to help Jameena with the healing, do major debuffing of enemies, etc.

Ty. If we need direct damage, Ty can do that just as well as just about anyone from range.

A sorcerer/warrior/dragon disciple. Major melee damage dealer. That will be another lightly armored meleer, though.

What does the group think?

Great saves that round, even with the -4 penalty, or most of the party would have been ash!

Gerald wrote:

I think any of those would be fine. Does one jump out at you as something you've wanted to play?

I'm fine playing any of them, MOB. I like Ty and I like both the other ideas as well. That's why I want the group's help!

hp 61/61, AC 22/15/17, F +13 R +12 W +11 Init: +4, Perception: +0

Do we level right away, or do we wait until we rest or get back to town?

Of the options Gerald has presented, I'm more inclined towards either getting Ty back to life or going with the witch. I think melee is crowded enough as it is with three of us rushing forth at the foe. And Ty has been a major contributor to overall damage.

As to our new level, I'd like to get some input.

Feat selection:
Lots of options here. Since we have already established that Jameena will never be much of a damage dealer, I'm leaning towards feats that instead help out the team or hinder the enemy in other ways than hp. Top options are:
Enforcer (because I can deal nonlethal dmg without penalty),
Outflank (teamwork, so someone else needs to take this as well) or either Extra Channel or Extra Lay on Hands.

Spell selection:
I've got the 2nd level spell slot down to two choices:
Fire of Entanglement - very iconic for a Sarenrae-worshiper.
Paladin's sacrifice - makes it easier to keep everyone on their feet. It is easier for me to get a swift self-heal off than a channel or standard action Lay-on-Hands.

In any case, here is my hp roll 1d10 ⇒ 4 - looks like I'm taking 5 hp for this level.

Assuming you rest, either now or after you investigate the rest of the tomb, you can level.

Gerald, there is one caveat with Ty coming back to life. The trip will not be as smooth as it was with Quzman, with the party simply traveling to Katapesh. The module details several events that occur between now and the party traveling to the main city, which would mean that you would have to wait numerous posts before Tyronel could even participate in the game. Obviously, I could get a new character in quicker. Take that into consideration.

If the party was willing to do the hard work of bringing Ty back, would you allow Gerald to play a temporary PC someone we could meet and adventure with who could then be regulated to an aquatint NPC (no longer adventuring) when TY was resurrected. Assuming we can make that happen. Just a thought that would allow Gerald to keep Ty but not have sit out of the game for an extended period of time.

Looks like I get 5hp

So is the consensus that the group wants Ty back? If so, that is fine with me, and DM if it takes a bit to get me into the game, I understand. I'll do what the group wants, as I do like Ty.

I like the option where you play a new character while we chug Ty's charred bones around in a bag. Then if we get a chance to Raise Dead, we can decide if we bring him back or stick with our new friend.

I figure we go back topside and see if perhaps the Carrion King had some captives who have stuck around and would like to join.

Good point, Jameena. Let's see what Lucendar thinks about that.
