If you do want to play the witch or any other character, the city of Katapesh is a perfect place to bring in you and/or MoB's new character into the story, once you guys figure it out.

Would it be possible for us to ret-con that Dumah picked up a scroll of gentle repose in Kelmerane and cast it on Ty's body? That would solve the issue, if we want Ty back.

Sure, we can say Father Abdallah cast the spell on Tyronel's body in Kelmarane.

Thanks, dm.

No problem, I would have suggested it via the priest if I had remembered the 1 day/level rule for Raise Dead, so it's all good.

I am working on building Dumah's replacement. The speak with dead would indicate he has found in the afterlife the family lost to him in his youth and is therefore at peace. So, that should save the group a few grand! Plus he still has a couple items of value from his person that could be distributed back to the group or sold if it could be justified in character. I think we were already eyeing his punching dagger for a sale item.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 16

FYI: I am going to be extra busy this weekend with out of town company and a big exegesis paper due on Monday. Probably wont get to post again until Monday.

Dumah's replacement hit points rolls:
Level 2: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Level 3: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Level 4: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Level 5: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Level 6: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Level 7: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Lucendar:

Spoiler:
When I added up the value of Dumah's gear, I came up with 11,533 gp. The majority of that value is the punching dagger he carries at a 8,302 gp value. I did not add the sale value of his spell book; rather I added the value that he paid to add additional spells to his book (scroll and ink costs). I hope that is okay; let me know if you want me to handle it differently. Right now I am just deciding a couple of details, buying gear and deciding spells. Then he'll be ready. He is a human wizard (conjurer, teleport subschool), level 7 with the Seeking Haleen campaign trait.

For markofbane:
Make it an even 13,500 gp then, exactly 10K under the wealth level for 7th level.

Holy cr@p - I just realized - Jameena had paladin's sacrifice prepared the whole time. I'm a little unsure whether or not she would have been within the needed 35 ft of Dumah (she was still 10 ft down the side of the pit when he got hit), but if she were, she would certainly have used it, probably sending her into the negatives without an immediate action available to use hero's defiance.

I think we are far, far beyond the point of ret-con, even if she was within range, but in the future, could all of you please help me remember stuff like this, especially if a character's life is on the line.

Oh, about your spells: During combat, you cast 2 grace spells, but you only have 1 listed as memorized on your sheet. Did I miss something?

As for paladin's sacrifice: Jameena would have dropped into negatives from the 36 points of damage, then taken more damage from the fall (4d6+2d6 spikes). So instead of the dead mage, there would have been a dead paladin.

Male Human Writer 2/Dreamer 7

@grace - I just looked over my posts. I cast it once during this fight, to get up from prone, and once during the fight with the death worm. But those were on two different days, right. So unless you also used grace while running Jameena (which I don't think you did), it should be ok.

@paladins sacrifice - True, Jameena would have perished. But she would sacrifice herself in a heartbeat to save any of the Sand Stalkers. No reason to dwell on that, though - let's just assume she was out of range and try to remember that I have that spell in the future.

Ah, ok, maybe that's where I was confused. Thanks for the clarification. There's also the issue of whether you need LoS for the paladin's sacrifice spell since you were 10' down in a pit, but like you said, let's leave that for later.

Male Human Writer 2/Dreamer 7

There is also one point where my description text says "Jameena dances gracefully around the ettin", but that is just fluff text for a 5 ft step. That may have added to the confusion.

Lucendar, here's the character I had in mind to replace Dumah. When you get a few moments, take a look and let me know if there is anything you'd like to see changed. Thanks!

MoB: Looks good, I love how this character gives off a totally different vibe from Dumah. Usually, people just play similar personalities, i.e. twin brother, etc., when a character dies, so I appreciate that you made him different.

Things I noticed:
AC should be 17, does not include +1 ring of protection
List DCs for saves next to your spells, like Stinking Cloud, or damage for Acid Arrow, on your sheet
List benefit of Augment summoning, combat casting, etc. next to feat

Looks real good!

Male Human Writer 2/Dreamer 7

Mark, you have elven weapon familiarity listed under racial traits. Spell and Feat selection look solid. We are going to miss haste and item creation, but you can't have everything.

On the subject of spells. It would make sense in character that we hand over Dumah's spell book to his old master once he shows up. Obviously, that would clash with WBL. Thoughts?

Thanks Jace. I found the elven weapon familiarity too; I did a copy and paste to get the character sheet template and missed deleting that one.

I am certainly not counting on him getting access to Dumah's spell book. It is entirely possible that the team may sell it to raise money for a raise dead, or encounter Haleen before Mahath and give it to her.

When I developed him, it was with the thought in mind that he'd be on his own looking for Haleen. The moment he connects with a group, he will certainly make adjustments for it including adding Haste to his repretoire.

Sorry I didn't get to post this morning. I got behind this weekend due to the tornado that passed by here and didn't finish the paper that was due today done until just moments before it was due. I will get caught up in the morning. I agree that we gather the loot and head towards Katapesh ASAP. Eli will use the wand to help heal everyone up and then will use his detect magic to try and identify the new magical gear while they travel. If you want to roll that out for me before the morning go ahead, otherwise I will take care of it when tomorrow.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 16

I think that the web ate my post...it says I made one but I can't see it. Long story short...I got behind this weekend due to the tornado's....I agree with whats been said....I will update tomorrow.

I hope you and your family came through them okay.

Yes we are very lucky, we are about 20 miles south of Henryville IN that got hit real bad, we were hunkered down with our upstairs neighbors watching the radar and news feed as it went by. We spent several hours just waiting.

Some friends of ours near Cincinnati, OH were also very lucky. The tornado that took out their small town, Moscow is about 80% destroyed, took out the houses in front and behind them but left theirs standing with some damage.

I know how you are feeling, MD. I am down in London, KY and about 8 miles north of me, a little community got hammered. Around 10 deaths, IIRC. It's terrible.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 16

Was that West Liberty?

Nope. That is more east than me. I have been through West Liberty a ton back when I was younger, though.

The community in my area was East Bernstadt. A mobile home park was hit and decimated here.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 16

Wow, Glad you are okay!

XP update: You all have 29,750 after the last fight.

Tyronel and Dumah: Ok, as I understand, Dumah does not want to return. And Tyronel? In game terms, though you will be 7th level as well, you will be 4750 xp behind the rest of the group (25,000). I just want to make sure you are ok with that. If not and you wish to bring in a new character, you will only be 500 xp behind the group. Let me know.

I'm fine with giving Ty another shot, DM. Even behind in xp, I am good with that.

Quzman is carrying the following:

+4 Wisdom headband
+2 Greataxe of Defending
+1 Shocking Longspear

I wouldn't mind keeping the wisdom headband, but it's also worth enough it might be wise to sell and use for other items. The weapons can be sold, as I never remember them. A big hitter like the axe could be good against something with DR, but it's also a +3 weapon, and worth a lot. I could get a +1 greatsword or something a lot cheaper, even after the loss on sale.

After figuring things out in terms of raising Ty, Quzman would also like to see about upgrading his armor and weapons. Weapons of mithral/cold iron might not be a bad plan.

Also, GM, on the last legs to town, or around town Quzman would like to try and find a new ally to replace his fallen Ky. I am not sure how you would like to handle this.

Also, Ty has a really groovy axe that the party could sell. You know Ty doesn't like to melee, so maybe it could be sold and he could get a slightly lesser axe and give the party the extra cash.

Male Human Writer 2/Dreamer 7

After a look at the books of Eli, I suggest we sell off the following items:

Item - sale value

MW shortspear - 150.5 gp
Cloak of resistance +1 - 500
Ring of protection +1 - 1,000
Necklace of Adaptation - 4500
6 Composite Longbows (+4 Str) - 1,500
8 Chain shirts - 400
8 MW scimitars - 945
wand -- spiritual weapon CL 3 (20 charges)- 450
+1 breast plate - 675
+1 great axe - 1,160
+2 Greataxe of Defending - 9,160
Breastplate +1 (large)- 775
+1 Greataxe of Human Bane - 4,170
Chain shirt +1 (small) - 625
2 Kukris are masterwork quality but not magical - 308
Black Diamonds (1000gp value each) (5) - 5,000
+ 1 Shocking Long spear - 4,152.5

For a total cash sales value of 35,786 gp.

In addition, there is the En-Nebi (magic dagger that is cursed w/ lycanthropy) - to be handed over to the temple for destruction.

Edit: added calculations and fixed minor errors.

Can I get a breakdown of that calculation?

As to En-Nebi, a paladin would not sell a cursed dagger; he/she would destroy it or give it to the Church to purify.

Sure. Edited the post above.

Thanks!

Eli, please delete all the items listed in Jameena's from the Books of Eli as they have been sold. Subtract 6000gp for Tyronel's return to life and then you may split the 29,786 gp as you see fit.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 16

I will mark them as sold.

fter paying for the spells I say we split the remaining 29,786 into 6 shares. 1 each for: Ty, Dumah, Jameena, Quzman, Eli, and then 1 for the party fund. Obviously we will send Dumah's to next of kin, or set it aside for Haleen.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 16

A six way split would be 4964 GP each

hp 61/61, AC 22/15/17, F +13 R +12 W +11 Init: +4, Perception: +0

A six way split sounds fair.

Would you guys have a problem with Jameena selling off the Ring of minor cold resistance on her own, in order to use the money to upgrade her armor instead?

I think she would benefit more from an enchanted mithril breastplate than the cold resistance. And she won't be able to afford that, unless she sells the ring. I'm also considering trading in the ring of protection I'm wearing for an amulet of natural protection, since that will stack with my AC bonus from smite.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 16

One of the reasons I keep the master treasure list is to help us remember where we got everything and where it went. If I have noted that it was given to a character than I am assuming it becomes that characters personal treasure. At that time they are responsible for keeping track of it on their character sheet, and the player is free to use it as they wish...including selling it for upgrades or different stuff. Brebork left the group he kept the items his character had been given. I am treating the items that Dumah had as his, to be given to his next of kin.

Also Jameena, remember I gave you a +1 leather armor, that Eli had been wearing. You can sell it to help up grade your armor. It was part of the trade off for Eli getting the +3 chainmail.

hp 61/61, AC 22/15/17, F +13 R +12 W +11 Init: +4, Perception: +0

Awesome. And the +1 leather should make it possible for me to get some better items.

I have a dilemma:
I currently have a +2 CHA headband, and because of Dervish Dance, a +2 DEX belt would also make lots of sense.

The mechanical benefits are sweet as honey:
+2 DEX = +1 to-hit AND dmg, +1 AC, +1 Reflex save, +1 dex-skills.
+2 CHA: +1 1st level spell slot, +1 to ALL saves, +1 AC and to-hit during smite, +1 cha-skills.

However....fluffwise, it's boring. Unlike this item:

Gods and Magic wrote:

Sash, Dawnflower

Aura faint abjuration; CL 5th
Slot belt or head; Price 2,500 gp; Weight

DESCRIPTION

This long strip of red Qadiran fabric is designed to wrap around your waist or head several times and be held in place by its ankh-shaped clasp of red gold. When worn, you remain comfortable even in warm environments as if protected by endure elements. If you unwrap it to its full length and hold the clasp in your hand, you can feather fall once per day, briefly leaving behind a trail of pleasant red-gold light as bright as a torch.

If Sarenrae is your patron, once per day by command, you can use the sash to cast cure light wounds. You may trigger this ability automatically if you are reduced to –1 hit points or less, though thereafter you must recharge it by placing it in strong sunlight for 8 continuous hours. At will, you may cause the clasp to shine as brightly as a torch or cease this illumination; the light is warm, feels like sunlight, and is enough to make sun-fearing creatures slightly uncomfortable but not enough to cause them harm.

CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS

Craft Wondrous Item, cure light wounds, endure elements, feather fall, light; Cost 1,250 gp

So...what to do...give up some pretty substantial, but boring mechanical benefits for some decent ones which flavor-wise fits the character much, much better?

Well, in the end you can use all 3 really. The sash uses either the belt or head slot, so if it's in the head slot, you're fine. The CHA headband uses a different slot (headband rather than head), so it's all good. However, affording all of them are the issue I'm sure. I'm still up in the air as to how to reconfigure my equipment too.

Also, guys, remember that a couple of potions of Fly for each of us would not be a bad investment. At this level, we need to have that base covered in the case of an emergency, or pit, lol.

hp 61/61, AC 22/15/17, F +13 R +12 W +11 Init: +4, Perception: +0

Whooot, thanks Sniggevert! I can't believe I missed that head and headband are two different slots. I almost feel like giving my Superstar tag back...well, almost.

Then I think Jameena will make the following gear adjustments:

Sell:
+1 breastplate - 675
+1 Leather armor - 580
Ring of protection +1 - 1,000
Ring of cold resistance, minor - 6,000
Savings and party treasure - 5, 145

Total: 13,400 gp

Purchase:
+1 mithril Breastplate - 5,200
+2 Dex belt - 4,000
Pearl of power (1st level) 1,000
Dawnflower Sash - 2,500

Total: 12,700 gp

Cash left: 700 gp

Okay guys, Im not too familiar with weapon rules, as you all might remember. If Ty wanted to enchant his magic bow further, like getting perhaps the Corrosive enchantment, which is the cost of a +1 bonus, how much would it cost for that to be done? Is it possible to do that in Katapesh, assuming Ty could afford it?

Since it's already a +1 bow, you should be able to pay the difference to upgrade, as long as a crafter is available (so up to Lucendar). The cost of a +2 enhancement is 8,000, and the cost of the +1 was 2,000, so it should be 6k to upgrade.

Correct and enhancing a weapon, suit of armor, or shield takes 1 day for each 1,000 gp in the price of its magical features. So, if you have the 6K, you would have to leave your bow with the crafter for 6 days.

Hmmm...okay--that makes sense. That will have to wait then!!
