"I do make them. I have been working on ways to finish off undead more efficiently. Here let us see if it does attach. Ah Ha! Yes it does, though I only have one for you." She states and then gets excited when it does work.
GM Wolf
Most of the harpies fly into the spire as the darkness comes. A good 100 of them. Under a third of them are young. One squad of a dozen hover in the open space where the door would close. As another dozen fly freely looking for targets, these are uncovered fully. They screech as they find a spawn or two and deal with it using ranged attacks, it takes most of them to focus on one to take it down.
The spawn in the lead quickly retreat as there is no easy prey.

"I don't expect any true vampires tonight. But I have my stake ready if they do show up!"
"Hold onto the silversheen until we have them charging us en mass. Normal arrows. Toki if you want you can ride around but beware of the pit traps. We wait, they will come to us." He commands keeping his eyes alert to any movements. His sword attached to his back and bow with arrow in hands.
I will be accepting Raging Song, once I go into melee.
Koldur of the Axe
Koldur nods towards Olivra in thanks as he accepts the two crystals.
Marveling at their construction, it doesn't take long for the old arms master to attach both to each of his chosen weapon. Swinging both to get a feel for them, he's delighted to note that their balance isn't affected in any way by the crystals.
A flask by his side, Koldur prepares to doff its contents, considering that he might need it for future use.
As he waits for the battle to come engulf them, he begins to extend his senses around.
Koldur will accept raging song.
Crystals added to inventory.
Activating Centered Senses.
Hundor
He would be one of those out lighting the campfires as it gets dark and comes in with nothing following him.
He would accept the raging song once it begins as one hand is on his greatsword and the other is on a throwing axe. He waits.
Alembic
The idea for the pit traps is more like the Punji Stick traps used in the Vietnam war.
As night draws near, Alembic will take up a spot somewhat up the stairs so that he can cast and then move up as needed.
GM Wolf
A good half hour passes before you start seeing slow moving groups advance upon the spire. Groups of 5 to 10 clump together and move slowly.
As you chose to not state that you dug any pit traps, I guess there is none.
Toki Wolfrider
"I will remain close to hand, I can harass and distract the groups, that should let you shooters and close-in fighters do some real hurt too."
Toki rides around the front area of the spire, staying 50-100' away from the base of the stairs, looking for individuals to charge or stragglers to pin down.
Koldur of the Axe
Perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29

Ingvarr will provide ranged support by firing into groups of enemies that get within 200 feet (second range increment) using normal arrows. He won't activate any special abilities until they form some sort of coordinated attack.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Unsurprisingly, I will pass on Raging Song.
As the first group breaches their perimeter, Alembic gestures, and an explosion of light rips among them.
Okay, so Burst of Radiance is an interesting spell, to say the least. It is an AoE spell that does the following:
For all creatures, it is a Reflex Partial Spell (DC 19) that Blinds for 1d4 rounds on a failed save and dazzles for 1d4 rounds on a successful save.
If a creature targeted by this spell is evil, they also take 1d4 untyped damage/caster level (max 5d4), whether they made the save or not.
Blind: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Dazzled: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Evil Damage: 5d4 ⇒ (4, 3, 3, 2, 4) = 16
Seraphina Medvyed
"I do make them. I have been working on ways to finish off undead more efficiently. Here let us see if it does attach. Ah Ha! Yes it does, though I only have one for you." She states and then gets excited when it does work.
”Marvelous!” Seraphina exclaimed as she did indeed marvel over the crystal now attached. ”You must let me observe you crafting sometime. This is truly a useful, novel device.” She gushed admiringly.
He would be one of those out lighting the campfires as it gets dark and comes in with nothing following him.
He would accept the raging song once it begins as one hand is on his greatsword and the other is on a throwing axe. He waits.
Sera looked out anxiously the way Hundor had set out. Her vision was nothing exceptional and she tracked his progress mostly by the fires blooming into flame out in the night. Trying to look absorbed by her crossbow, she reached out mentally to Meir. ”You still see him? And nothing closing on him? It is too dark for me to see that far.” The dragonkin patiently replied in kind, ”Yes, I would tell you, were it not so.” Still she fidgeted and watched for him until he returned.
When Hundor was safely back and had taken his position near them, Sera stepped up beside him and placed her hand on his shoulder and along with a gentle squeeze, she flashed him her best ‘brave’ grin. ”If I should fall, look here.” She said as she turned her left wrist out and triggered the mechanism for the spring loaded wrist sheath. The little extender arm sprang forward, producing a wand quickly to hand. ”This is a wand of infernal healing. It’s not white magic, by any means, but it will keep you among the living just the same. I expect you could activate it as well as I.” She said and then told him of the command word for the wand and put it back in its place, rewinding the clockwork mechanism to reset it.
So he can access and use it if she falls unconscious.
Finally, as the enemy drew closer, she cast her preparation spells and got her crossbow ready to fire. She waited til an enemy came within both visible and crossbow range.(80 ft) That's probably close enough that Sable will release us to use the silvered ammo. If not, regular bolt.

The mobs don't move towards you any faster than before... slowly moving forward. The harpies outside soon run out of ammo and turn to their reach weapons. As Round 7 comes around the first one is caught by jumping vampire spawn. By then you can tell they have been busy as 50 zombies are now in view in groups of 3 to 5. The harpies had done a good job thinning the ranks. They fly back as the others move out, flying over the coming horde of undead and begin their ranged assault, keeping well above.
Rounds 1-7 please
After Sable's arrows, 47 left. Alembic fries 6 of them, 41 left. Though I need to know which perimeter that you speak of?When they are 60 feet away or what?

"Of course Seraphina, it would be nice to have others in the workshop again." She states with warmth.

He watches what Seraphona shows and is interested as he *hmms* and *ahhs*. Then he relays, "sounds good."
He fidgits around as there is no target for him to easily hit, then thinks about their strategy and the flames. He puts the throwing axe down and slams his sword into a crack of the stairs. Then he ascends the stairs to find a reach weapon... not seeing anything that will fit his small stature he returns and rearms himself with his small greatsword and small throwing axe. Then he waits. Unmoving like a mountain, the aged dwarf stays very still as the beginning cries of battles rises up around him. The song from flights of arrows fails to ruffle him even as prayers and spell chanting augments the musical chaos of a battlefield and still Koldur remains unflappable.
Energy begins wrapping around him as protective and energizing spells suitable for battle coils around him and his senses starts expanding further and further into a semi sphere reaching out from the Weaponsmaster.
He knew that these were only feints meant to test their defenses and drain their ammunition. The real foes have yet to show themselves.
And thus he waits. Ready to enter battle once the line breaks as expected and their undead foes show their cards...........

In addition Rognar takes half damage from any damage done to Koldar and Johanna
Ingvarr Battlecaller
Reminder for us all--when Ingvar has the Raging Song active, you may accept it on your turn (or automatically accept it if you are unconscious--which is good because you gain 1 hp/level and auto-stabilize).
Raging Song: restricts you from spellcasting like the barbarian's rage and penalizes your AC by 1, but it gives you +2 Strength, +2 Constitution, +2 Will saves, and converts 5 points of lethal hp damage to non-lethal damage if you go below 0 hp while raging (plus auto stabilize if you are below 0 hp). Note that the +2 Constitution gives you +1 on Fortitude saves and an extra hit point per hit dice.
In addition, at the beginning of every battle, he releases a 'Battle Cry' as a swift action. You get +1 Attack and +4 Saves versus Fear, with a chance to reroll a failed fear save 1x (at the cost of losing the benefit of that Battle Cry).
He has other spells and special abilities as well that help with failed saves and such, but we can deal with that on a case by case basis.
Most of these buffs stack, except with Bless (both morale bonuses to hit and saves versus fear)

Round 3: Apply Silversheen.
Round 4: Ready Shield
Round 5: Kiss the blade and call for blessings for her allies.
Round 6: Ready attack
Round 7: Ready to attack first adjacent enemy.
Johanna, Rognar posted that he cast prayer in Round 2, so you might want to retcon that and cast on a later round so you don't waste the spell.
Seraphina chewed her bottom lip as she watched Sable and Hundor cut down the zombies that encroached their hastily erected fortifications. As Alembic prepared to cast, she considered dropping the crossbow and doing the same. But she still had silvered bolts to fire and she wanted to be ready when Sable called for them to be loosed. So she scanned for a clear line of sight on one of the cannon fodder undead. She spotted one threatening Meir but felt sure she could not accurately target it around his massive dragon frame so she targeted the one in the opposite corner.
Targeting Black at the bottom left corner of the barrier since it's not in melee and should have no cover from her shot.

Round 8
A very large dwarf waits for his foes, watchful for surprise attacks.
Seraphina Medvyed
Sensing a very large Dwarf looming over her, Seraphina looked back at Koldur. "Should I move? You can probably reach them if you step in front of me." she asked as she reloaded to take another shot.
I know she doesn't actually need to move since he can pass through her square but Sera can 5-foot step, if need be. Targeting Black again unless it has fallen, if so, 5-foot step forward and fire on Purple.

Exasperated, he starts shaking out his drawing hand in the hopes of remedying whatever malady is plaguing his aim.
Just realized that in the previous combat post I made, I didn't notice I had a crit threat on one of my shots. From the looks of it, it would've confirmed too, and that would have been triple damage. Ah well, probably too late to change it now.
Johanna "The Cat" Sinclair
I forgot my crystal damage on round 8. 1d6 ⇒ 4

Koldur of the Axe
Round 9
"Don't mind me lassie, I'm just waiting for when they stopped sending fodder and come at us for real." Koldur remakrs as he shifts a foot to see if the vampires would actually do so.
GM Wolf
Round 8
Rai shoots at the zombie hitting it. You can't tell what effect it has on the undead. Koldur waits. Johanna slices as Seraphina hits its head with a bolt, its body dropping onto the wood and flames. The smell of burning rotten flesh is bad but you know it will get worse! Toki rides by running through one of the undead's skulls. Ingvarr hits his target and its momentum slows a bit.
Rai, I took the crit into effect, taking one of them down. Toki, what round are you posting for, what are you targeting, are you using ride by attack? Give me more man! I put in arrows for how you are moving adjust as necessary. Alembic does not have the range to cast slow.
power of wind: 1d8 - 4 ⇒ (2) - 4 = -2
Meir: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 5 - 1 = 17
Meir: 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (2, 1) + 10 = 13
Meir: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (11) + 5 - 1 = 15
Meir: 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (1, 5) + 10 = 16
Johanna, the front wooden barricade are also bon fires, do you wish to step into the flames to get to the zombie?
Rai shoots another arrow well over the head of the intended target. Seraphina hits the same target as Rai and it drops. Koldur waits. Invarr hits the same target again and it appears to wince and even wheel back a bit from the arrow. Though hitting its heart and falls to the ground in ash as it burns away. Meir slashes the undead with the, slashing weapon I can't remember, and drops it too.
As all the front enemy is down, no threat of damage, though the next lines advance... Meir slices down the zombie as it approaches.
Fortitude
1d20 ⇒ 4 Meir
1d20 ⇒ 6 Sable
1d20 ⇒ 16 Hundor
Perception DC 25, you can tell the difference from the zombies and the vampire spawn. Don't worry about previous rounds.
Those at the front, melee, need to do a Fortitude Save DC 6 or be nauseated for the round from the smell of burning rotten flesh. You know the smell is just going to get worse.
Meir the dragonkin snarls at the smell and backs up 10 feet. Waiting for more mindless undead to get in his reach. The harpies continue to shoot arrows and sling rocks at the undead from their positions beside you. All the undead come at you with holes from those attacks.

Round 9
Seeing no targets as the others handle the threat he backs off and pulls out a handkerchief and makes it into a makeshift mask, tying it around his head to his face.
Round 10
He waits for the undead to come to him. If nothing comes he will make sure his mask is on real snug. Hoping for a +2 vs. the smell.
Hundor
Round 9 & 10
He moves back from the flames and burning bodies. He follows suit to his master and waits for targets to get to him as well while making a make shift mask.
Koldur of the Axe
Round 10
Perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30 <---lol
A very large dwarf peers into the battle taking place as zombie parts fly over where he assumes Toki is rampaging about.
Seeing that some of his allies backing away due to the stench and others masking up, Koldur too pulls up his cloak higher to act as an impromptu mask.
So now he was a cloaked, Masked and large dwarf. If the enemy didn't see him yet, then they were blind.
It was but a matter of time before the enemy runs out of fodder and send in their real forces.
Johanna "The Cat" Sinclair
No Fire Bad... :)
Johanna holds her ground she turns her head at the smell of the burning decaying flesh as it is an awful smell, but stands ready for the spawn to show.
Fort Save: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34
Ingvarr Battlecaller
As the enemy continued to approach, the large figure of a dwarf grew directly in front of him. "Just like at the theater--I always get behind the tallest person..." he thinks, moving over to the other side of the steps for a better view of the oncoming horde.
Round 10: Moved and standard action to restart raging song (7/17)
Blasting on the horn to indicate continued fire with normal weapons, Ingvarr calls out, "Strike true! Every foe that falls brings our victory nearer!"
Note that those of you accepting the raging song get +1 on Fortitude saves against the smell due to the increased Constitution.
Toki Wolfrider
Toki continues to cross the battlefield like a blood-maddened, gore-soaked, gibbering goblin madman. Because that's what he is, currently. Riding back and forth in front of the barricades, he lances any undead foolish enough to get within 25' of his allies line.
"More singing! Bard music makes me stronger! Rraaaggghhhh!"
Continuing to hit and run along the line, perpendicular to the stairway. Taking attacks at any zombie or spawn that makes it to within 20-25' of the other melee folks.
