Since we have a week of real time, I would like to get to know out new bodies a bit better before Princess Almah arrives.

The next day, seeing as Princess Almah has still not arrived, Sonya enters the market once again. Sonya spends the early parts of the day tending to the wounds of those in need. Her afternoon is very different though. She sets through the market speaking to a number of cooks and food vendors. She places a large order to be brought to the temple. Once she is satisfied with the menu, Sonya seeks out each member of their scattered group and personally invites them to a dinner in the temple of Sarenrae just before sunset tonight.


Barezata bores quickly with the downtime, but passes her time training and ensuring her equipment is perfect. The small town, barely able to be called a town in her mind, pales in comparison to Katapesh. She explores everything there is to explore, meets everyone there is to meet and is more than happy to accept Sonya's invitation to dinner.

Most of the walls of this forlorn ruin still stand, but the interior walls have been demolished and gutted. The skeletons that once littered the interior have been painstakingly removed and burred in the nearby graveyard. Ash and fire still stain the interior walls and ceiling through most of the structure, and signs of violent battle are everywhere, but it is obvious that someone has been hard at work attempting to set the church right. The ash has been swept and the walls washed. Much work remains, but the temple is beginning to shine with the glow it once possessed.

Near the center of the church stands a forlorn stairwell that leads down to a heavily barred door. A strange metal plate with a glowing series of irregularly etched lines mars the surface of the door, casting the stairs in a dull red illumination.

Laid out in an open area are a number of floor rugs laid out for each person surrounding a large decorative rug filled with a variety of food from nearly every stand in the battle market.


Barezata arrives. Her dark clothes are free of the dust of the desert and she still bears her bow and quiver. She nods approval at the obvious recent work that has been performed within the ruin. Not an easy task to bring such a place long abandoned back to life. When she sees Sonya and the rugs, you can see a smile light her eyes and her cheeks rise. "Greetings Sonya and thank you for the invitation. You have done much work here and the feast you have planned looks very inviting."

Sonya bows the robes of Sarenrae's high priest flowing effortlessly with her movements. "My thanks. I have had help. Cailin has aided me in removing the bodies and giving them the burial they deserved. He has done good works this week. Such discussions should not be the topic of this night. Sit, relax, and enjoy our bounty."

Hijiro accepts the invitation with a little smile and a Blush. After shopping in the market, he arrives and looks around the temple curiously.

He bows and says, "thank you so very much for inviting me."

Sonya smiles at the little fox. "All are welcome in this house Hijiro. Always." Her eyes follow Kitsune, filled with curiosity. In all her days Sonya had never seen a creature such as him. She had many questions, but was unsure if it would be rude to ask so soon.

Silena returned to the Battle market late the night of the full moon but did nothing else except went straight to bed... after a very late and sparce dinner. Taking Kardswann's quarters at the battle market she performed late observances of her Midnight Lord's faith to recover her miracles and refresh his divine power for the next days activities and retired to bed sleeping the reminder of night away.. with only fitful dreams.

In the morning perhaps a little latter than she normally wakes... she took a bath, and did her morning martial exercises and weapon drills.

Silena collects Umdrella and takes her with her around Kalemarane to consult her knowledge of the city as Silena get to work organizing and cataloging the situation. By force of personality and or threat of physical reprisal ...with her Axe - Fiendfell, Silena gets the merchants and residents remaining to give an accounting of the city's current resources and supplies in foodstuffs, water, wealth, weapons, armor, livestock, man power, and support wares for sale or manufacturing {Ultimate Campaign - labor, influence, goods, and magic}. Silena wants a FULL accounting of what Kalemarane's current fiscal records are standing. She spends the day organizing a financial report on the current status of the city, and the rest of the day organizing its security... in men-at-arms to if not secure the city at least have in place a collection of watchmen to keep her informed of brewing trouble or city concerns.

Silena's goal is to have Kalemarene organized and catalogued enough to hand Lady Almah a full report and mostly organized city on her arrival.

Silena will try to convince Umdrella to be her lieutenant to oversee that her orders are followed when she herself is not around to watch the merchants and residents herself. She won't force the issue but she would like to move Umdrella into some appropriate the battle market quarters along with getting 'Umi's' alchemistry as well to make a proper shop of her wears.

There IS an ulterior motive to having Umdrella so involved.. it keeps her from being idle and her nature from resurfacing.. as Silena does not want 'Umi'..sliding back to her Harpy wicked ways.. so she is keeping Umi close and busy.. trying to give the Harpy woman a since of importance and empowerment .. a vested interest in seeing that her position is invaluable and rewarding in the new social structure of Kalemarane.

As for any Gnolls or other monstrous races still present in Kalemarane... Silena does not demand they leave but she does demand that they keep their devotions to their dark gods... like LAMASHTU in their own private abodes and that there be no preying upon the citizens of Kalemarane.. or her Axe - Fiendfell will be their judge, jury and executioner!

Needless to say.. Silena has a VERY busy day! She DOES check in on Kardswann, NOT with Umdrella with her {she keeps the Harpy WELL AWAY from Kardswann}, at least twice during the day to make sure he is being closely watched.. and well taken care of with food and water. She will have any guardsman watching him stay a constant 20'ft away from his cage~ informing them.. 'Kardswann is possessed of a evil spirit.. I want none of you to fall under his influence.'

But finally in the evening a pages does inform her of Sonya's evening meal at the Temple of SARENRAE and she does arrive slightly late and clearly fatigued...

The young half-elven cleric and war priest clearly looking a little haggard from her day's activities... but her weapons and armor are polished clean and instead of her disguise peasant garb Silena is dressed in her usual Nidal Nobility rich clothing.. if not actual court dress as this is not a 'formal' dinner or a courtly affair. For those new to the group who know little of the petulant young woman.. this is the first time they have seen her dressed so richly ...even though clad in armor and weapons clearly.. 'Lady' Silena Dulare comes from a wealthy background.

"Gah! It's like herding rabid kittens getting this city organized! Thank you for the invite to dinner sweet Sonya.. I'm famished!"

Silena smiles at the jibe, "...oh no. These lands are far too hot and bright for my liking.. my sensitive eyes long for more cloudy, cooler lands. One of the few useful skills my father had me instructed in was the managing of our house's vast estate of capital and resources within the Nidal nobility. I'm use to city life... but freedom came from being on-campaign as a hired battle priest. Much as I prefer city life.. the open road... offered a freedom from my parent's cruel scheming, so I took it at my first opportunity."

She shrugs, "...but if Lady Almah is looking to retain my services on a more permanent basis.. I~ might be persuaded to consider a offer with some ...amenities to make my continued presence here more comfortable to my needs."

"I'm sure you could find a few able bodied men to carry you through town in a well covered litter. Maybe even find some palm branches to keep you cool." Sonya moves in embracing her friend. "Come. Sit. You've kept yourself far too busy.

Sonya leads Silena in to the table and joins the party. "Hijero, Barezata, what brings you into the Lady Almah's service?"

"I've been traveling in the west now for some time... I'm looking for my twin brother Seijiro, who went missing some time ago. He was working on a merchant marine ship headed south. The last I heard he jumped ship in the city of Katapesh and I was unable to pick up any news of him for some time. Finally, someone told me he was seen among a group headed to Kelmarane, so here I am, looking for him, and I just sort of fell in with you folks. I can't say I have any real grasp of what's going on, who this Almah person is, or why we're fighting gnolls... Have you, perhaps, seen a fellow who looks like me? We are twins and most folks can't tell us apart. Maybe you could fill me in on YOUR mission here, too?"


"I am a newcomer to this part of Katapesh. I grew up on the streets of Katapesh. For reasons that are my own, those streets became unfriendly. I came west thinking I might continue to Osirion and found myself here. I have no love for the gnolls. They are the worst of Katapesh and those I have met on my journeys are worse. I am good at killing them. Lady Almah said you had gnolls that needed killing. So here I am." Her dark eyes settle on Hijiro. "I do not know your brother. Most do not travel west in Katapesh. He must have had a good reason."

Sonya listens to each of their stories, picking at the food in front of her. "I can not say I've ever seen one such as you Hijiro. Not ever in my life. I am sorry."

"We each work for Lady Almah, a trade princess from Katapesh. I know little of the woman to be honest. Most of us have come here seeking personal goals as well. Our mission from Lady Almah is to clear the town and prepare it for her to settle it. We have done much of the work clearing the gnolls that ran this town out. All that is left for us lies behind that door."

Sonya's eyes fall to the heavily barred door by the stairwell in the center of the room. "We have come to learn that those glowing lines on the plate of that door are part of a seal to which Lady Almah has the key. Behind that door is a demon, sealed away in days past. He is the true cause of this cities troubles. The genie we captured is being controlled by the demon below our very feet. That is our mission here. To see to the safety of all who will come to redeem this fair city."

I wish I was equipped to fight demons but I'm really not... maybe there might be things in the town that could be used to do so? Don't you need special metals or such to fight such beings? Or will this Lady help provide such before she opens the seal?"

"I do not know. She has been mostly hands off with our work. I have been blessed by the Dawnflower herself with magics that will aid in keeping the demon's mind controlling magics from affecting you. Fear not the demon. We have the Everlight on our side."

Silena then hefts, FIENDFELL, the great axe she claimed from Kardswann, "This is Fiendfell... it is a magical great axe specifically enchanted to harm lawful outsiders.. like devils. And I personally as a War Priest & Champion of the Faithful of ZON-KUTHON... I can harm by granted power those fiends of the Chaotic ilk... namely Demons. The Midnight Lord cares not if evil fiends suffer the wrath of his faithful.. as long as there is suffering inflicted in HIS name. I shall, of course, prepare you all with the tactics and if possible needed weaponry to fight any fiend we should find behind those warded doors. Do not be afraid Hijiro."

I have made clear her weapons and armor are built with cold iron and alchemical silver properties as she specifically has ALWAYS been ready to fight both Demon or Devil.. and as a professional torturer.. she specializes in know how to hurt her victims .. mortal or otherwise. Thematically and with her ...dark past.. it seemed appropriate for her to know such things already.]

"Today was meant to be a time of peaceful conversation, let us not fall too deep into the days that will come."


"I suppose it is the conversation that falls most naturally to us. At least to me. But I think you are right Sonya. There will be time enough for that discussion later. Tell me more of your hopes for Kelmarane. Would the Dawnflower see it return as a trading town or as a new outpost against the gnolls like Solku to the south? Or does she have another plan altogether?"

"I have never, and likely will never, claim to speak for the Dawnflower's plans." Sonya replies quickly and adamantly. "I know she brought me here. I believe she wants the demon ejected and her temple restored. Other than that, I can not say what her plans are for me. I know personally what I want. Behind that door is the crypt. A holy and sacred place where the High Priest of Sarenrae should be properly interred. Instead, I have been forced to lay him under rocks and sand. I wish to return him to his rightful place."


Barezata doesn't give up that easily. "Of course. An evil that cannot be redeemed. Destroyer of fiends, undead and other horrors. The proselytizers in Katapesh speak of that, but also of love, acceptance, generosity, redemption and other good works. Which will it be? Sword? Or loving embrace? What will Kelmarane become? A northern Solku, bulwark against the gnolls? A chess piece for the Pactmasters, reinvigorating the trade routes north into Osirion? Or something new and different? You speak of tomorrow. I will stand with you against the demon. But what of next year? Or the next ten? Isn't that the real question?"

Once the Lady Almah and her party receive word that Kardswann and the Kulldis gnolls have been defeated, they venture from the old monastery to the battle market and begin to evaluate it for eventual habitation. In the meantime, Almah's pavilion is erected, and you all are summoned to an audience.

Here, she asks you for an accounting of what has taken place. She gives you the interdict key, and urges you to purge the evil from the ruined church's crypt as swiftly as possible. She also orders Kardswann to be executed... and she's looking a bit askance at Umdrella.

Is there anything in particular you want to say (or that you want to NOT say), before we move on to the crypt?


Barezata listens patiently. The fate of Kardswann and Umdrella are not particularly of any care for her. Many were executed in Katapesh and it seems unsurprising that an agent of the Pactmasters would deal harsh justice. She is smart enough to know that when expecting a battle, one should take every opportunity for intelligence of the situation. "Lady, you have the key. What have you been told of what waits within? I would be prepared for this enemy. Help me to do so."

Silena listens impassively to Lady Almah. She presents her reports of the current affairs of Kalemarane and a record of her efforts to put the city into some semblance of order.

At Lady Almah's decree for Kardswann's execution, Silena will shrug and inform the Princess,".. we believe that Kardswann is possessed by the spirit of evil that lurks within the Temple Crypt, and may not be acting of his own volition. In fact, it is this reason only that WE did not kill him ourselves but took him alive~ instead. The choice is, of course, yours to make your highness~ but if we could free him from the influence of the evil that is possessing him... I'm sure one could see the advantage of having the Gratitude of one of the Elemental Princes of Air... not to mention his kinfolk among the Djinn, for saving his life. Nor, might I add, the disadvantages of earning their same Ire should Kardswann be put to death unnecessarily.. the Djinn.. have long memories~ after all."

But Silena drops the subject finishing her report on the current food stores and raw resources left for the refurbishing of Kalmarane.

In the final, Silena introduces Umdrella to the Princess, giving a sterling report as to "Umi's" assistance in infiltrating the Battle Market and providing critical intel upon the inner workings of the Gnoll invaders that allowed the "Lions of Kalmarane" to succeed in their overthrowing Kardswann's rule of the city. Silena will inform the Princess that Umdrella wishes to serve the new rulers of Kalmarane as an aerial scout and magical ally, her voice a powerful weapon and tool for the defense of the city in exchange for fair treatment and pay for her skills and powers toward the common benefit and peaceful existence here as a citizen of Kalemarane.

Sonya bows gently before the princess before speaking, "Lady Almah, it is with all due respect I speak to you. We have been your dutiful servants in all that you have asked, but this request I can not abide by. Kardswann is tainted by the devil under the church. I will not stand by and allow him to be executed for another's crimes. If you insist that we do this, then I will be forced to stand against you. You are an honorable woman. It is on this honor I beg you to trust in me. Not as a woman, but as a servant of Sarenrae."

Silena says nothing to interrupt Sonya but she moves unhurriedly to stand not specifically at her side .. BUT CLEARLY... Silena is moving to her flank in a defensive manner. Her gaze is not specifically aimed at Lady Almah's guardsmen nor her hands 'quite' reaching for her weapons, but anyone looking on would not miss the unspoken support and readiness to defend the bold SARENRAE Oracle.

Samuel watches the scene quietly for some time before speaking. "While I highly doubt that Kardswann is a saint to be held up as an positive example for all to see, it is clear that he is not the true source of the recent troubles. Something else is at play here, and killing Kardswann before we know precisely what that something is could be problematic. I would at the very least advice holding off any decision regarding his ultimate fate until we search the chamber below the town. We may find questions down there that require answers from him."

The Lady Almah regards you all impassively, a mere twitch of the eyebrow greeting Sonya's speech.

"You have been most... eloquent... in defence of one who has acted against my interests and done great harm in Kelmarane and its surroundings. Very well, he may live until you have dealt with the Crypt. If eliminating the evil there does not free him from whatever possession you believe afflicts him, then..."

Her voice trails off but the intent is clear.

"I know only a few hints of what occured in Kelmarane, but I do know that a foulness is imprisoned in the crypts below the old church, and that exorcising this taint should be the final step in cleansing the village. I fear that what waits below the church represents great danger.

"About twenty years ago, Kelmarane's priests of Sarenrae fell under the sway of something... foul from the Great Beyond. The creature took control of the high priest and eventually turned the people of Kelmarane to madness. Soldiers of the Pactmasters pacified the town and left it in ruin, but they were never able to root out the evil, and instead locked it in the crypt of the village church. Now, after all these years, that evil must have waned, and you should be able to defeat it once and for all. I've been provided with an interdict key that will get you through the seal. Silena relaxes from her combat readiness... glad that no hostilities broke out and that the Princess was willing to be reasonable.

However, her sour look at the resources available is not hidden. She does recover quickly though thanking Lady Almah for whatever assistance she can provide.

She turns to the rest of the 'Lions of Kalmarane', "...well I did not expect us to have to solely rely on my efforts to get a economy here in Kalemarane functioning to be our only source of adventuring supplies! I'm sorry, I searched the battle market from top to bottom.. found nothing useful~ enchanted or otherwise as loot."

She shrugs, "...for a bandit warlord, Kardswann must really suck at it as he has no plunder gathered anywhere in the battle market. I guess if we are ever going to have the gear and weapons we need.. I'm going to have to dedicate my future studies within the faith of Zon-Kuthon to the enchantment of arms, armor, and wondrous items of my OWN crafting! But for now... that is not available... we will have to go with what we have... which is not much I understand."

Turning to Sonya, "We should consult upon the divine blessings you have available so I can prepare complementary ones for tomorrow... so we have less overlap."

Sonya bows before the lady Almah having been dismissed and pulls Silena aside. "I am in need of your assistance. I wish to speak with Kardswann once more before we retake the church. He has shown a small ability to control his own voice. He is the only one who has laid eyes upon the demon. I intend to see if he will aid us once more. It is not wise for me to go alone. I ask only that you keep an eye on me from a distance and ready a spell to shield me from the demon's magic if Kardswann can not retain control."

Assuming Silena agrees, Sonya makes her way to where Kardswann is and approaches the creature with care. "Kardswann, I would speak with you, if you will allow it. We are preparing to enter the church and deal with the threat that lurks beneath it. You have seen the creature, and any aid you could give us would be appreciated. The more you can aid us, the sooner we can free you from his control."

There is a smith here who will knock up cold iron weapons for the asking, so Hijiro may have his rapier and Barezata her arrow points.

OPPS! Silly me.. totally forgot about the 500gp! That's CLEARLY at least 100gp for each party member! My mistake!

Silena will hand out the additional funds to everyone... 100gp each from Lady Almah.

She will purchase the CLW, and Remove Fear for 100gp total.

Now that Silena has Craft Wondrous Item instead of Alignment Channel... she will sell the +1 Longsword to Lady Almah's merchants. Splitting the value of the weapon's sale with Sonya who is the only party member left who was involved with its looting... giving them both an additional 578gp, 7 sp, 5 cp.

Since we have a {OK, it will take a couple of days before the Lady Almah turns up - Megan}... Silena will use it to enchant a +1 Cloak of Resistance [1,000gp 'market' - 500gp 'create cost'] for herself.

Silena will inform the party that she can now create magical items and is willing to do so on the party's behalf.. at only cost to create; so all wondrous items at half cost.

Without getting a lesser restoration to recover her fatigue.. Silena can only enchant for 8 hours a day at a market value of 1,000gp; basically 1,000 gp of item enchanted per day. Potentially, 2,000gp of item enchanted a day if she enchants for 16 hours a day... but that would fatigue her.

So we have about two days before Lady Almah showed up and a day of preparation before going into the Crypt... that's three days Silena could be enchanting things... as Silena is also 'sort of' running Kalemarane those days as well... except for the last day... no 'double-tapping' enchanting should be possible {even if Megan would be kind enough to allow it, anyways} so only a total of 2,000 gp of 'market' enchanted item value can be enchanted for the party...[Silena's already spending one of the three days to enchant her +1 Cloak... thats why only 2,000gp instead of 3,000gp] if anyone wants to avail themselves of it... that's at least two more +1 Cloaks of Resistance at a cost of 500gp each.
