Walking away from the bodies and over to the inscriptions,
Well, I have no idea what this is talking about but it mentions Aroden, Hedra what in the world is this thing trying to say?

![]() |

Doubt this has anything to do with nature or arcana:
Arcana: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Nature: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Any other knowledge (untrained): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19

Grimnir's eyes light up as he see's the armor.. "Mithril.. Hmm.. A yes.. If no one wants this armor ill try to squeeze into it.."
Grimnir looks at the puzzle and tries to remember anything valuable..
Aid Know History on the Inscriptions: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 Someone can add +2 to their roll for Know History..
Aid Know Religion about deities talked about: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 Someone can add +2 to their roll for Know Religion..
Ill take the armor if noone wants it..

Have at the armour. I'm not proficient. Which reminds me, I need to get the feat for that if I'm ever to get mithral chainmail...
Quinn comes forward to look at the door. "Shame there are no key holes and I seem to have forgotten tools to unlock anyway. Hmmm. An interesting story is being hinted at here. I have to wonder, what would happen if we pull this lever?"
After musing, he uses detect magic on the door to see if they are dealing with enchantments as well as mechanical or simply mechanical.

![]() |

The prism next to the door detects as magic. Nothing else does. Assuming you point this out to your resident magic item ID'er, you're going to be able to ID it. (Although Quinn doesn't have a bad shot at ID'ing it.)
In addition to its use as a battery, a PC can use a sacred prism to augment spells he casts with the good descriptor, expending 2 charges to increase the spell’s caster level by 1, 4 charges to increase the caster level by 2, or 8 charges to increase the caster level by 3. A PC can also throw a prism as a splash weapon that destroys the prism and replicates a holy smite spell (Will DC 16) with a caster level equal to the number of remaining charges.
A PC can recharge a prism in several ways. The prism absorbs spells with the good descriptor cast directly at it, regaining a number of charges equal to the spell’s level. When affected by a channel energy effect augmented by the Alignment Channel feat to harm evil outsiders or heal good outsiders, a prism regains a number of charges equal to the number of dice the PC would roll for the effect. Finally, a good-aligned creature can grasp a prism and concentrate as a full-round action to restore 1d4 charges, though doing so also gives the PC 1 temporary negative level for 24 hours. Prisms cannot hold more than 8 charges.
The prism on the wall currently contains 6 charges.

Religion: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Just wanted to see if I could =P
Quinn points out the crystal. "It would seem that this is a conduit for good magic. It can buff up your good spells and be recharged by them. So perhaps the worst thing we have to fear if we get this door combination wrong is it will bless us with good energy. Unless there is something else hiding here?"
Quinn inspects the mount the crystal is in 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28 to see if it can be removed or if there is anything dubious about it before taking a step back and checking the door as a whole 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26.
Gas bladders, spike outlets, false ceilings, pit seams... anything? Come now, Quinn, think before you start trying to fiddle with it.

![]() |

"Hmmm, I have a theory. It is possible pulling this lever will activate something about this door, either resetting the dials, unlocking it, or some other means. Perhaps this would use some of the crystal's energy, meaning we would only have so many tries to get it right. I wonder if we can bypass it somehow, if it could be figured without its power source..." Quinn starts to mutter and mumble about how puzzles such as this are fascinating as there is an element of the unknown that you don't normally find in the theatre of Taldor, however it also leads it to be frustrating if it proves too difficult to come to an answer quickly...
If ever there were a time for nesting [smaller] tags...

Hedra read the riddles, trying to remover things of the past
I know Eleder is in Sargava, pas I come from it
Know. History (with Gamin's help): 1d20 + 21 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 21 + 1 = 33
Know. Religion (with Gamin's help): 1d20 + 14 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 14 + 1 = 18
Know. Local (with Gamin's help): 1d20 + 13 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 13 + 1 = 30

Hedra looks back through her knowledge of history and seems to recognize some of the names and places mentioned...

![]() |

Her, again ! This thief doesn't merit such a praise...
These sentences spoke of Iomedae's act who falsely permit her to godhood. I think by choosing the right number on each lock we will be able to open it. If one of the sentence doesn't spoke of one of her eleven acts we must not pick a number

![]() |

"Tell us about these acts so we may try to guess it, then." With a twirl, Quinn spirals down to the ground to rest in a cross-legged position to hear the story.
Knowledge (history): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Knowledge (local): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
which is why I asked for story

![]() |

Actually, with that Knowledge (religion) Quinn, you know a bunch of them already.
Eighth: She convinced the graveknight known only as the Black Prince to throw himself upon his sword as punishment for his evil. This reversed his undead state, redeeming his soul and allowing him to be judged in the Halls of Aroden.
Eleventh: At the Pit of the Starstone in Absalom, she cast her cloak of common wool before her. It straightened and expanded to become a firm walkway across the gap, allowing her to enter the Cathedral and take the Test.
Fourth: With heartfelt words and a prayer to Arazni, she convinced a regiment of mortally wounded knights at the Second Battle of Encarthan to hold back a wave of wraiths long enough for reinforcements to arrive at dawn to save them.
Seventh: An image of Iomedae appeared at a shrine to Aroden in Absalom, healing anyone virtuous who touched it and burning wicked folk who came too near. When she later became a goddess, the shrine was expanded into a temple dedicated to her, named the Seventh Church.
Ninth: She gave nine drops of her blood to free nine righteous knights imprisoned by the vampire-mage Basilov; she and the knights then slew him when he attempted to recapture them.
Tenth: She ruled the city of Kantaria for a year and a day while its lord, heirless patriarch of House Narikopolous, was missing. The city prospered despite constant attacks by shapechanging horrors—horrors which she battled personally.

![]() |

Of course Quinn I can do that
After a short silence she said
I think the first one doesn't correspond to any of Iomedae'a Act
The second corresponds to her Eighth Act : She convinced the graveknight known as the Black Prince to throw himself upon his sword as punishment for his evil is considered Iomedae's Eighth Act. This righteous suicide redeemed the undead knight's soul and allowed him to be judged in the Halls of Aroden.
The third to her Third Act : From the back of a flying griffon, the soon-to-be-goddess hewed Segruchen the Iron Gargoyle's wings from his body, sending the so-called King of the Barrowood plummeting to the ground where she slew him in his falling-crater before he could escape.
The last one correspond to her Second Act : In her second miraculous act, she defeated a coven of witches in the Sargavan city of Elder, freeing the city from their tyranny.

Grimnir's AC will be 1 better with the mithril plate.. Ill adjust it for the scenerio..
Grimnir watches as the group tries to hash out the riddle..
"It sounds to me like the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th bars should be the numbers 8, 3, and 2 respectively.. If you say the first isn't one of her Acts than perhaps it shoud be left blank?"

![]() |

"Alright well step back and I'll give it a try.." He moves up and sets the top bar to blank, the 2nd to 8, the 3rd to 3, and the 4th to 2.. After that he pulls the level..

![]() |

"Alright well step back and I'll give it a try.." He moves up and sets the top bar to blank, the 2nd to 8, the 3rd to 3, and the 4th to 2.. After that he pulls the level..
Does this mean that you're setting all the dials on the top to blank, all the dials on the 2nd bar to 8, etc.? Remember each bar has 4 dials, and each one can be set separately to a digit from 0-9 or blank...

![]() |

Well crap, that just got alot more troublesome..
Grimnir pauses as he realizes there are alot more dials than he thought there were.. "Umm.. Should I set them all the same? Something doesn't seem write about that.."

![]() |

Of course I remember it. I learn all about her and her false claim to Aroden's faithful. said Hedra bitterly.
The Acts of Iomedae were eleven miracles performed by the goddess Iomedae throughout Avistan and Garund as a demonstration of Aroden's might. Recounted in the holy text of her faith, called The Acts of Iomedae, or simply The Acts among her faithful, each of the then-mortal goddess's legendary episodes of heroism provides an example of Iomedaean "virtues". The details of the stories vary between regions, though all have the same general themes.
Began to explain Hedra.
Now for the Acts themselves :
First Act
Iomedae first slew Nakorshor'mond, cutting the unconscious bodies of her circle from the beast's stomachs.
The Second Act
In her second miraculous act, she defeated a coven of witches in the Sargavan city of Eleder, freeing the city from their tyranny.
The Third Act
From the back of a flying griffon, the soon-to-be-goddess hewed Segruchen the Iron Gargoyle's wings from his body, sending the so-called King of the Barrowood plummeting to the ground where she slew him in his falling-crater before he could escape.
The Fourth Act
Calling upon Aroden's then-herald Arazni, Iomedae convinced a regiment of mortally wounded knights at the Second Battle of Encarthan to stay their ground against a horde of wraiths until reinforcements arrived at dawn to rescue them.
The Fifth Act
In what is now considered her fifth miraculous act, Iomedae smote Erum-Hel at the Battle of Three Sorrows (the same battle in which Tar-Baphon returned Arazni’s body to the Knights of Ozem), forcing the crippled Lord of the Morghs into hiding in the depths of Orv.
The Sixth Act
Iomedae instantly reforged her sword—magically shattered by the Whispering Tyrant—fusing it together with a prayer and an oath to end the wizard-king's evil.
The Seventh Act
The seventh Act was the calling of the Undenying Light in Absalom, which is commemorated at the Seventh Church. As a terrible storm shrouded the city in darkness, a pack of sea-ghouls attacked the city. The then-mortal Iomedae called for the Starstone to light the city; the Starstone Cathedral glowed with blue fire, and the stars shone rays of light that targeted the ghouls and allowed Iomedae and the city's defenders to destroy them.
The Eighth Act
Convincing the graveknight known as the Black Prince to throw himself upon his sword as punishment for his evil is considered Iomedae's Eighth Act. This righteous suicide redeemed the undead knight's soul and allowed him to be judged in the Halls of Aroden.
The Ninth Act
In order to free nine righteous knights from imprisonment by the vampire-mage Basilov, Iomedae gave nine drops of her own blood; when Basilov attempted to recapture them, she and the knights slew him.
The Tenth Act
In the absence of its rightful lord—the heirless patriarch of House Narikopolous—Iomedae ruled the city of Kantaria for a year and a day while its lord was missing, bringing prosperity to the city despite constant attacks by shapechanging horrors, which she battled personally.
The Eleventh Act
In her eleventh and final miraculous act before ascending to godhood, Iomedae cast her cloak before her into the Pit of the Starstone in Absalom; the common wool cloth straightened and expanded into a firm walkway across the gap, allowing her to enter the Cathedral and take the Test.

Eleder and Kantaria are different acts, I think each sentence refers to multiple acts. As best I can figure:
The first bar has written:
A broken sword is reborn in knight-saving blood so that Absalom might withstand evil.
6,4,7
The second bar has written:
Inspired by her courage by fight of the righteous, the Black Prince was judged in the Halls of Aroden.
4,9,8
The third bar has written:
By escaping the wound, her royal servants helped her slay the King of the Barrowood, ascending her to godhood.
1,3,11
The fourth bar has written:
Because of The Battle of Three Sorrows, the cities of Eleder and Kantaria prospered with freedom and wealth.
5,2,10
But I don't think each sentence should only have 3 acts in it otherwise there would be only 3 dials per bar. What do you think I am missing?

![]() |

"I do believe you are correct Mr. Madison! Hoeever I believe you have the first one wrong.. Broken sword does refer to 6, but knight saving blood would be 9 instead of 4 i believe.. 7 again is correct i think.."
"We have blanks and the 3rd and 4th bars would work out considering 10 and 11 are 2 digits.. We just need to figure out where the blanks go in the first 2 bars.. I suppose the easiest would be to leave the last digit blank on the 1st and 2nd bar.."

![]() |

Good catch Mr. Madison ! May be there is a fourth act in each sentence ? Or it could be for number greater than nine !
With Grimnir correction it could be
6, 9, 7, blank for the thirst sentence
4, 9, 8, blank for the second
1, 3, 1, 1 for the third
5, 2, 1, 0 for the fourth.
What do you think ?
Grimnir and her came to the same conclusion and Hedra smile at him
Yes ! I think we're coming to something here !

![]() |

"I was, indeed, wondering why it mentions the reforging of the sword without it actually referring to her act.
"The crystal, as I mentioned before, carries 'charges' of holy energy. It may be what powers this door, so to speak, or it could simply be an emergency device. Or it could be the true lock. Who knows? All I know is it is connected to the door in some manner. Would you like me to remove it?"

![]() |

I feel confident enough that we have it, I think I have the best reflex. If you all step back ill give 'er a try. Mr. Madison orders the lock as follows:
6, 9, 7, blank on the first bar
4, 9, 8, blank on the second bar
1, 3, 1, 1 on the third bar
5, 2, 1, 0 on the fourth bar.
Waits for everyone to step back, holds his breath and gets ready to jump out of the way.
Then gives her a pull.
Reflex: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25 if needed

![]() |

Mr. Madison sets the dials to 697-, 498-, 1311, 5210 and pulled the lever. Upon doing so, a great burst of holy energy came out from the prism next to the door, filling the alcove and causing pain all over Mr. Madison's body. The prism seems to lose 2 charges.
So I'll be treating that roll as a Will save since that's what I need. If you would like to reroll that Will save of 17, you may do so - just decide to before looking in the spoiler.
I will also add that you guys are really close...

![]() |

OUCH
I thought for sure we had it.
Perhaps someone with a little holier soul can try next time.
Mr. Madison backs up and pulls out a wand and starts healing himself.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

![]() |

"Hmmm, I guess it is possible for it to do blessed damage if we get it wrong. How about we try to remove it before trying again?"
Quinn will go forward and try to remove the crystal from its holster so Madison does not get divinely char broiled again.
Disable Device: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27

![]() |

The second one I am not positive on. It definitely has Righteous and Halls of Aroden, so 9 and 8. It seems like it starts with 4 but I am not sure.
The first bar I think we have right.
I like the third as well.
The fourth I am sure we have correct.
If we can not figure this out it may be time to start pounding a hole.

![]() |

"Lets just put the blank at the first this time.. Ill pull the lever this time.." Grimnir moves and set the numbers the same except the blanks on bars 1 and 2 first instead of last.."[/b] He waits till everyone else is clear and then pulls the lever..
Preemptive Will Save vs Spell: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (3) + 18 = 21

![]() |

May be the crystal is the power-source of the door and the trap ?
Said Hedra
Grimnir, retry with it. If it explode, I will heal you if needed.

![]() |

I think that anyone with a sufficiently pure soul will not be harmed by the trap. Mine was clearly not pure enough. Were mine more tainted it would have been a lot worse. Grimnir, what is the state of your soul?
