Grimnir Foehammer |
I dont suppose a door handle grew did it? lol
"Well I didn't no change.. Yall think a wayfinder will open it?"
GM Mars |
As Kargoth moves closer and closer to the tower, the drops of purple energy start to curve towards the left. Once Kargoth is within 5 feet, the energy drops seem to aim straight at the door that Grimnir found. When Kargoth's wayfinder gets within a few inches, the energy instead flows like a river from his wayfinder, outlining the door in a purple stream, including outlining a small impression that could be used as a door handle.
I'll have a map up when I wake up.
Mr. Madison |
Mr. Madison will hang back from the front line. He will stay within sight always but about 10 to 15 feet behind the more martial types. He has no need nor want to get up close and personal with what ever lies ahead.
Hedra Dreamcaster |
My historical knowledge warns me of possible protection from all that is not good as the creator of this fortress took only pure men with him.
So I'm not evil but I'm a strict follower of the law I woudl prefer to not come first through this door.
Said a vigilant Hedra
I'm good ! Said Gamin
Grimnir Foehammer |
Grimnir will use his last charge of his extend rod to cast Resist Enery: Fire 20.. He'll then take point and walk first into the secret door.. Pulling his greatsword along the way.. "Follow me younglings.." He looks around as he walks through, detecting for evil presences.. Activating Detect Alignment
Perc: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (20) + 22 = 42
Mr. Madison |
As Grimnir opens the door, Mr. Madison pulls out a pieces of string and a splinter of wood, mutters to himself and flicks his wrist.
The heaviest nearby rock that is under 100 pounds is dragged across the ground through the door and across the floor, or whatever lies through the door.
GM Mars |
A curving corridor angles to the north before disappearing around a bend. The walls and floors bear gashes and holes, bearing testament to a terrible battle long ago, and a mass of corpses—some humanoid, some demonic, and all dead—litter the cold, tiled floor.
Here's a link to the map.
The detect evil and detect chaos are going to register hits of the moderate and strong varieties from about 1/2 the corpses on the ground. Looking at them, even from a distance you can see that there are both crusader and demon bodies on the ground, and only the demons ping as chaotic and evil.
Grimnir's perception picks up that there are tons of traps in this hallway. There are pressure plates all over the floor, multiple trip wires along the ground that have already been triggered, along with similar lines in the air to deal with flying creatures. However, it's not until he turns the corner that he notices a pressure plate that hasn't been tripped yet. (The red box on the map)
Mr. Madison |
Mr. Madison has the stone dragged over to the door to act as a jam. He then directs the unseen servant to drag around one of the corpses in front of the party.
If Grimnir points out the trap then he will say.
Stand back a bit lets see if I can set it off.
Grimnir Foehammer |
Grimnir will back up some and let Mr. Madison try to set it off..
Quinn Kouniashi |
"If that's what you want. Or should we try to disable it silently? The last thing I want is to set off some explosion letting everything else know we're here. However, I am not too practiced with this, so maybe the rock may be a better choice. I leave such tedious decisions to you."
Alternatively, I can take 1 on an acrobatics check to clear it if we can all jump over it. There may be a disable switch over yonder.
Mr. Madison |
Mr. Madison will have the corpse pulled over the pressure plate while everyone stands far back.
Sorry Quinn, looks like you beat me to posting, I did not see you post before I posted. You may be right about alerting someone, lets hope it did not. At least this is somewhat safe regarding the trap. no one minds a demon body falling in a pit.
GM Mars |
There is a loud clicking sound when the unseen servant drops the body on the pressure plate. Looking up it appears that a small tile from the ceiling has opened up and a yellow grenade falls from the ceiling. Various holes are cut into the grenade, allowing it to make a sound similar to angels singing as it falls. The grenade explodes upon hitting the ground, erupting in a 10 foot radius column of flame. The demon body is relatively unharmed, but the unseen servant is no more.
Up ahead, about 10 feet further into the hallway, Grimnir easily spots a trip wire that is still intact and connected to something inside the wall.
Algar Lysandris |
That was a lovely trap. says algar with a smile So what will be the next one since it appears we do not have the means to disarm them. i guess we will have to set them off
Grimnir can you cast a Heroism on me he says handing a Lesser Rod of Extend
Grimnir / Kargoth don't forget you have a barskin (+4) from algar
Hedra Dreamcaster |
Hedra moved behind Algar and casted detect magic trying to see anything unusual or deadly for us, Gamin in hand
Know. Arcana: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 10 + 1 = 18
Know. Spellcraft: 1d20 + 18 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 18 + 1 = 22
That's strange this place, I hope we will find only dead demon here said the sword.
Grimnir Foehammer |
"I knew a wand o summons would have be good for this mission.. Shoulda bought one.." Looks at Algar.. "Ye want me last high tier spell? Dam younglings always wanting my magics.. Alright, Alright.." He very reluctantly casts Heroism on Algar, using his rod to extend it.. Lasts 160 min
Algar Lysandris |
Thank you Grimnir
Algar turn toward Kergoth Yes we are near the portal. Its more dangerous for them but in the end they are just demons.
he turns toward Quinn Good to know in case the unseen servant isn't enough. he says with a smile
Hedra Dreamcaster |
Another point is their presence and the fact they are still here, not decaying. That's quite strange no ? And even dead they are still exuding evil or chaos.
Said Hedra looking at one of the corpse to have more clue on how they died and how they are so well preserved.
Heal (+guidance from Gamin): 1d20 + 11 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 11 + 1 = 16
Grimnir Foehammer |
"There are divine magic's that can preserve a dead body for along period of time.. Perhaps this place has something of the sort in effect.."
Mr. Madison |
Might not have worked with out Grimnir great perception, and if I can spare a party member from a chance of getting hit with a pillar of fire by using a level one spell slot then I will do so all day every day. No need to risk his tail, even if Kargoth would like him better without it ;)
Grimnir Foehammer |
Yea what sucks is that for 2 PA/750 gps you can get a wand of sum monster 1 for 50 trap setter offers.. We shoulda done that lol..
Kargoth |
"Good question Mr. Madison. Do you have something shorter that we can call you, by the way? calling someone by their clan name can be a mouthful when you're trying not to get stabbed."
I definitely agree with that idea. both of them really. IC Kargoth thinks it's kinda cruel, but then again he doesn't really care for magic to begin with.
Mr. Madison |
I have 33 spells a day, I don't really worry about having to cast level 1 spells. If I run out of my 9 level one slots I can start using my level 2 slots to cast any level one spells I may need. It's not like early in the career of a Sorcerer or Wizard where after a couple of spells they are done for the day. I would much prefer to use my free renewable resource then have someone spend money or prestige on a wand.
Mr. Madison |
I suppose Madison will do, battle being informal and all.
Ironically I have none of those spells. I may be grabbing shield on a page of spell knowledge soon though. We'll see. My spell list is a little... different, Mr. Madison does not like to deal damage.
Mr. Madison |
In my line of work taking offense at things like that doesn't do well.
Kargoth you can call me whatever you want and I'll be happy you are here, you seem like a good sword, that's what I care about.
GM Mars |
The unseen servant pulls the trip wire, and you watch as an arrow goes flying across the hallway, breaking on the wall.
When Hedra detects magic, it becomes quickly apparent that if these bodies were looted, whoever did so didn't do a thorough job. She detects a magic set of mithral full plate, along with a potion off in the corner. After a quick look, Hedra easily identifies them as +1 mithral full plate and a potion of cure serious wounds. Easily, as in Hedra takes 1 with Gamin and gets a DC20. The full plate is DC18 and the potion is DC20.
I'll have the next room up in a moment, but figured I'd drop treasure/resolve the trap so you had something to talk about while I wrote up the next scene.
Hedra Dreamcaster |
That's a treasure this armor ! Unfortunately I'm not used to these type of Armor, may be one of you cloud take advantage of a so beautiful armor ?
Said Hedra
And this potion his one of cure serious in case of need, somebody wants it ?
Still wondering how the corps could not decay Hedra wait for Grimnir to take the lead.
GM Mars |
Ah, missed that heal check.
Hedra's examination shows that something is preserving these bodies - exactly what she is unsure of. The crusaders and demons clearly died violent deaths. Both of them are showing wounds consistent with the other side's weapons, and both sides are singed from holy grenades and arrows.
GM Mars |
Flowing script of inlaid silver lines the polished walls of this octagonal chamber. A thick, iron door reinforced by four thick, horizontal bars of stone blocks the way to the west, and an open passage leads to the east. A niche in the north wall contains a glass octagonal prism clasped between a set of steel prongs. Liquid that glows with a blue-white radiance fills much of the prism’s interior. A stout lever is set into the wall next to the door.
Some people find this door hard to visualize, so here's a picture! Yay my basic photoshop skills!
Each of the four bars across the door contains 4 dials. These dials contain the digits 0 through 9, along with a section that is completely blank. An arrow above each dial points down, clearly indicating the number (or absence of one) on top. Also written above each bar, there is a short phrase written just above it in Taldane and Celestial. The two inscriptions say the same thing.
The first bar has written:
A broken sword is reborn in knight-saving blood so that Absalom might withstand evil.
The second bar has written:
Inspired by her courage by fight of the righteous, the Black Prince was judged in the Halls of Aroden.
The third bar has written:
By escaping the wound, her royal servants helped her slay the King of the Barrowood, ascending her to godhood.
The fourth bar has written:
Because of The Battle of Three Sorrows, the cities of Eleder and Kantaria prospered with freedom and wealth.
Mr. Madison |
looks like it was quite a fight, just glad its not ragging on right now.
About how many corpses are we talking about? And is that mass of bodies a pile or do they lay where they died? If they are piled then something/someone survived the battle and either found a way out or is still in here....
