Krogge |
I'm good with my token, looks like we are about 80 feet from the fireplace though so me and Randu may need to move closer to get into sling range.
@Randu, feel free to move both of us to a good spot where you are in range.
@GM, how tall are the buildings in relation to the rampart we are currently on? I'm thinking about roof jumping if the opportunity presents itself.
Rrruh |
I've moved my token where Rrruh would make his decent down into the compound. Building between him and the better eyesight of the hobgoblin. Leaving really only the human a chance to see him slipping through the night.
Randu |
Seeing, or likely not seeing Rruh vanish around one corner, Randu feels a bit unsure how to get a good view of the foes past the buildings corners while still staying on the wall as he was told. Nor is he sure his sling will reach, not that he was ever the best shot with it. Feeling bolder thanks to Krogge nearby, he instead sweeps around the far side to position , knowign that Rrruh is aware where the rope he might need is.
He waits for the first sounds of battle, and holds his position.
Hope this works for you, Krogge, but if not, go nuts. :) Not sure if I need to roll stealth or if I got a freebie for setting position, but in case it's needed...
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
When he hears either alarm cried, or the sound of battle, then he'll pop up and fire his sling at any guard he sees from here.
Falcon's Eyes I hope I'm doing this right. I'm a cook, not a squad soldier

Unable to edit map at the moment. Put me above the center of the fort, about twice the height of the walls off the ground.
Sweet Pea circles lazily above the fort, ready to drop in when things get noisy.
Krogge |
@Randu, Perfect, I have a nice shot on the Hobgoblin.
Krogge silently followed Randu until the Halfling felt comfortable with the distance, he eyes his pouch of small rocks and the leather thong he had to throw them I think I still prefer a bow... But we'll see how he does. He thinks to himself. When Randu notices him staring at him while they wait for Rrrruh to give a signal he simply gives a toothy smile and retrains his arrow on the hobgoblin.
DM Vayelan |
Randu aims too high, and his sling bullet strikes the wall of the headquarters behind his target.
The sound of stone against wood catches the hobgoblin's attention, and he turns to look at the point of impact on the wall. He does not seem to realize that he has been attacked, nor where the shot originated from.
Does the rest of the party want to make its attacks while the guards are still largely unawares?
Krogge |
if Randu shot, I think that would trigger my previous readied attack on the hobgoblin?

if Randu shot, I think that would trigger my previous readied attack on the hobgoblin?
Whoops. I guess I forgot you already rolled that because it was on the previous page.
As the hobgoblin rises from his seat and turns to inspect the wall where the sling bullet struck, Krogge's arrow sinks into his back with a wet sound. He drops like a stone, brought to the brink of the Boneyard by the arrow lancing his lungs.
The human bandit bolts upright, seeing his counterpart slain. Perhaps he is stunned, or perhaps he cannot quite make out what happened through the dark, but he doesn't utter a sound - at least not in this crucial moment.
Rrruh |
Looking at the map I'm assuming their is no back door? Is that a fireplace? It looks sort of like a fireplace.
Assuming there are windows
Slipping from the wall like a ghost the dark furred feline monk slid around the wall to find a window he could slip through to get inside and assasinate a hobgoblin or three.
No windows or windows he could never fith through.
He cursed in his head when he saw there were no windows he could use to slip inside. That threw the whole plan for a loop. It was time to improvise. It didnt look like the humans and hobgoblins were on the same page. So he thought to abuse that. He crept forward to the corner of the edge getting ready to try and catch the humans attention... and perhaps convince him to look the other way literally. He edged to the corner and peered around and his tail froze... for a few moments before it lashed in agitation. The form of the hobgoblin arrow in his back and prone was clear to the catfolk... and that meant his friends moved far quicker than was the plan. Oh well.
No windows Rrruh would double move to the corner, next round intense negotiations with humans
Krogge |
Krogge patiently controlled his breathing, waiting for Rrruh's signal to strike when he sees Randu let his sling bullet fly,"little jumpy eh?" he growls as he lets his shaft fly and into the Hobgoblin guard.
Randu |
Krogge patiently controlled his breathing, waiting for Rrruh's signal to strike when he sees Randu let his sling bullet fly,"little jumpy eh?" he growls as he lets his shaft fly and into the Hobgoblin guard.
"might surprise folks to know I've never laid siege on a fort before" he mutters very low
Krogge |
krogge quickly draws another arrow and trains it on the Human, "Not much different than hunting so far, just gotta time everything right." he mutters gruffly. Shouldn't be so hard on him... he's probably never killed anything more than a rat or chicken for dinner.
Krogge glances to Randu,"Maybe when we get back, I can take you someday."
Readied attack vs Human: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 101d8 ⇒ 6 Well hopefully he's unaware and flatfooted against that...
Rrruh |
Would it be too much to ask for me to move Rrruh to the other side. As he appreached the back if he saw good windows to use he would have went to that side than the other. If not no worries. I dont know if Krogge has an angle on the human. but if I am not able to switch sides I know my next action... just waiting on the sweetest of peas to react to our actions.
Krogge |
I think your right, I don't have an angle on the human. Hmmmm, ok, since I can't see the other human guard and Rrruh hasnt' given the signal, Krogge would probably assume the plan is shot at this point.
After Sweet Pea reacts:
Krogge will move to jump down onto the Stable roof as quietly as he can
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 Should just barely clear the 10 foot gap in between the buidlings?
Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
That's a double move at half speed with stealth. Should get me an angle on the human for round 3? placed a marker where I will go after Sweet Pea Reacts.
Rrruh |

climb: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
creeping through the window into the closet room he readies himself to crush the sleeping hobgoblins windpipe with the business end of the quarterstaff he found.

Sleeping Hobgoblin Perception: 1d20 - 10 ⇒ (4) - 10 = -6
Awake Hobgoblin Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 12
Rrruh squeezes through the window into what was likely the fort commander's chambers, now claimed by the leader of these hobgoblin squatters. A polished shirt of mail links sits neatly folded on a chair, accompanied by a small wooden shield and a longbow propped up against the chair. A flail is tucked beneath the bed, but within reach of the sleeping hobgoblin. The catfolk's steps remain silent, brooking no creak or squeak from the floor boards, and his prey keeps asleep.
Krogge lands upon the roof of the stable with a thud, lacking the grace of his feline ally but making the leap nonetheless. The sound draws the attention of the human bandit, who turns to gawk at the massive figure silhouetted against the sky. In panicked response, he rushes into the bunkhouse and begins hollering for his fellows to awaken.
Krogge |
*THUD*
Oh no. That was loud. Krogge thinks to himself just before he hears the guard begin to yell. Krogge schooches over 5 feet to get a slightly better view on the two doors and takes a knee and readies his bow for the first enemy to appear again.

At the hollaring, Randu winces and changes tactics. With focus, he constructs a figure on the ledge where those coming out can see. A figure wearing the arms and armor of an Eagle Knight, sword in the right hand, shield in the other.
At least it will give them a target... Striving for go for realism, and ain a fit of whimsy or perhaps just because he's seen the face of the fellow, he puts Kreed's face on the Eagle Knight! Kreed the Eagle Knight. Well, fortunately his OWN disbelief won't pop it like a bubble.
Silent image spell, otherside of the gate up on the wall where all can see :O if we're going to raise some havoc let's go bananas.
Krogge |
Yes I think round 1 was you moving into position, and randu and me firing. Round 2 would be Randu casting Eagle Knight Kreed and me roof jumping. Sweet pea is delayed I guess? sounds like its time for you to crush a trachea with that quarterstaff!

Was delaying until she heard fighting
Sweet Pea drops onto the roof of the bunkhouse, just above the door the human ran into. “Hello in there!” She calls into the building, leaning over the edge of the roof. “It would be really neat if you guys ran away, then we could just fight the hobbie gobbies.”
Rrruh |
damage coup de grace: 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (2, 6) + 8 = 16
I believe that makes it a DC 26 fort save to live
Already aware the plan was blown he pulled out the quarterstaff and thrust it hard into the hobgoblins throat. Hopefully it would be one less foe to worry about.
If the hobgoblin is aware of things from alarms or the like well here is an attack roll.

Hobgoblin Sergeant Fort Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Rrruh slays the leader of the hobgoblins in his sleep, never to know what befell him and his gang.
Sweet Pea leans over and calls through the canvas covering drawn over the bunkhouse window. The voices inside yell some angry, frightened words that she doesn't understand, and they begin to throw small objects at the canvas covering.
The bandit who initially ran inside the bunkhouse emerges again, only for Krogge's arrow to fly through the night and strike him in the shoulder blade. He yelps in pain and fear, squatting down for cover behind a bench and long table. He looses an arrow from his own bow, but the target he can best see in the dark is Randu's illusion. The arrow whistles harmlessly past the Silent Image.
Inside the headquarters, two of the awake hobgoblins grab their gear and investigate why their human "allies" are making such a ruckus. One of them steps outside to discover the chaotic scene unfolding. The other walks towards the captain's bedroom, where Rrruh lurks with their dead boss, and knocks upon the door. He shouts through the closed door.
What does the party do next?
Krogge |
When the bandit lets his arrow fly at Randu's illusion, Hehe nice try, but Randu's cleverer than you! he thinks to himself as he lets 2 arrows fly at the hobgoblin who just walked through the door.

Well, since stealth is no longer an option, let's just go nuts. Eagle Knight Kreed, and now ...
Another target is created, a faintly glowing humanoid shape, about fifteen feet away from the fellow who fired at the illusion. If the man doesn't know spells, who knows what he'll make of it.

Krogge's second arrow pierces the emerging hobgoblins stomach, causing him to pause in pain - leaving a motionless target for Sweet Pea. The swirl of sharp leaves and stinging seeds cuts crucial veins, and the hobgoblin quickly bleeds out.
Sweet Pea uses Razor Leaf. It's super effective!
Randu's latest spell deepens the human bandit's panic, and he looses another arrow at the illusory lights and figures that torment him.
Hobgoblin Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Inside the headquarters, the suspicious hobgoblin pushes the door open to check on his leader - only for Rrruh to brain him with a well-practiced strike of his paw, knocking him out with a single blow.
There are two hobgoblins left: one is still asleep, and the other has been knocked out. The two bandits inside the bunkhouse are still hastily donning their armor.
What do you do next?
Krogge |
Krogge will shoulder his bow before jumping down from the roof of the stable and rolling to his feet before approaching the Human guard while drawing his great axe.

Krogge and Randu both drop safely to the ground. The bandit behind the bench cowers as the woodsman approaches.
He is too frightened to even raise his bow, although he keeps the weapon clutched tightly in his white knuckles. His eyes dart around the yard, searching the shadows cast by the firepit for an escape.
If you want to deliver another Coup de Grace, we can assume you are automatically successful.
After two passes, he alights upon the slat roof of the stable, offering two clear hoots to indicate the location.

"Drop. The. Bow." Krogge growls through gritted teeth as he tightens his grip on his greataxe.

coup de grace fort save dc23: 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (4, 1) + 8 = 13
Grimly and as quiet as he can make it he thrust the end of the quarterstaff in this sleeping hobgoblins throat area as well. His tail lashed at the need of it, but he had no doubts that the monstrous humanoid wouldn't have hesitated a second to end his life given half the chance. He hoped the others were faring okay, he didn't hear any sort of crazy alarms or screaming so he hoped that was the case.
DM Vayelan |
Hobgoblin Warrior Fort: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
This hobgoblin proves to be particularly resilient, but in the end he is not tough enough, and he succumbs to Rrruh's subtle strike. Thus, the last of the hobgoblins is dealt with. Only two bandits, finishing donning their gear within the bunkhouse, remain. Will they surrender upon seeing the odds arrayed against them?
Randu |
At the noises and sight of the bonds, he curses and slips in... to aid them! He looks about for a key or way to open the shackles. Halflings, in chains? In ANDORAN? He's never been so furious.
I hope Rhrruh is kiling them all!
Krogge |
Whenever it rolls around to my turn again,
Krogge approaches the Cowering bandit, raises his great axe, and swings it horizontally into the door and frame!
Hoping to create and effective lock by driving the axehead through the door and frame. and soil the pants of the bandit thats actually outside.
DM Vayelan |
Krogge's axe bars the bunkhouse door, and the bandits within soon struggle to push, in vain, against the barrier. Towering over the cowering bandit, an acrid, ammonia-like smell assails his nose - suggesting he was at least somewhat successful in further frightening the man outside.
You cannot see a halfling-sized prisoner among their number, but a rhythmic thudding sound draws your attention to a far corner of the stable. From a bolt hole leading into a storage cellar, likely for tack and feed, you suspect it is the sound of someone stomping their foot to draw your attention.
Rrruh |
As silence still seemed to reign in the building he was in he continued on searching the place... all the while looking for some rope. He did have a knocked out hobgoblin to interrogate. Perhaps they could find out where they came from, how they took the fort and if there were more to worry about.

Krogge |
Krogge draws his Obsidian throwing axe and his obsidian dagger, then looks to the soiled bandit, "Run." he orders with a growl.
DM Vayelan |
The utterly broken bandit scrambles to his feet, stumbling a few times, then runs for the fort gate like his life depends on it - since, as far as he believes, it surely does. Meanwhile, his two fellows trapped within the bunkhouse continue to throw their shoulders against the door, trying to force it open.
Inside the stable, Randu peers down the bolt hole but cannot make out anything through the darkness. Fortunately, no knives, darts, or daggers come flying through the shadows either.
Investigating the headquarters, Rrruh discovers that the bandits and hobgoblins have been squatting in the fort for only a couple days. Some rough letters of parchment distinguish themselves from the other documents he finds. Unlike the clean sheets of paper written in crisp Common Taldane, these are written in the simple Goblinoid script.
Meanwhile, these squatters have clearly been helping themselves to the supplies kept within the headquarters and storehouse. Rrruh can find no lengths of rope, however, as they have already been used by the bandits and hobgoblins to secure their prisoners in the stables and the bolt hole beneath it.
