Andrea keeps silent, not wanting to wake the sleeping beast.

Given the ease you dispatched the other spiders and your ranged attacks versus those of the remaining spider, I think we can forgo rounds and narrate your elemental burning the webbing to get clear shots att he cowering arachnids.

There are a number of bodies in dangling cocoons. Some of them turn out to be various animals, a black bear, a couple wolves and a cougar. Two appear to be humans, both male. The first is the one you already partially discovered in the leather armor, the other is wearing some sort of hide armor. From both bodies you can scavenge 179 gp and assuming you cast detect magic, you find gloves and a wand that both glow. (The gloves are of Swimming and Climbing and the wand is a partially used wand of cure light wounds with 27 charges remaining.)

The bloody Owlbear falls beneath your onslaught and lies dead on the floor of its cave. A huge mass of blood, fur and feathers.

Perception +15 on the Owlbear:
Curiously, the beast appears to be wearing a thick leather collar and harness that are half hidden by the its abundant feathers and fur.

Perception +15 to search the room:
Stuffed behind the beast's nest is the body of a large human. Though partially eaten, his gear remains with the body and you find: a chain shirt, a longsword, a ring, two masterwork throwing axes, two potions of speak with animals, a jar of restorative ointment, a vial of antitoxin, two smokesticks, a tanglefoot bag, two thunderstones, and 34 gp. Loacated in a belt pouch you find a map of the Greenbelt with both of your settlements and the owlbear lair clearly marked.

"Agreed. Let's secure the rest of the cavern and make sure there aren't any other threats here."

You backtrack into the cavern that contained the already dead Owlbear and look about. The most obvious thing in the cavern is the giant carcass what is likely the body of the owlbear’s mate, slain by what appear to be bandits. Two smaller owlbears, cubs, lay dead beside her and a third owlbear cub, bedraggled, wounded and struggling to live gently nudges it's mother's corpse as it lets out pitiful little hoots. It ignores anyone who approaches is and seems interested only in it's mother.

The corpses of the bandits still wear their gear, consisting of six suits
of studded leather armor, six light wooden shields, six daggers, six longswords, six shortbows, 84 arrows, and a total 96 gp.

Now you have gone through the only two entrances to this cavern. The cavern you fought the enraged Owlbear in had three entrances. One you have gone through, the other you can see though and that it leads into the first cavern that you entered and a third, 5 foot wide tunnel that is on the other side of the water in the cavern. If you want to go back into the main, entrance cavern, there is the cavern on the south side that you have not gone through yet.

Healing the cub and offering food and water would be a good first step in getting it bonded. I can spare a curing spell.

The little Owlbear cub seems to respond to Alexander and will toddle after him and the rest of your group when you move on to the next cavern.

Your group goes up the wide tunnel that would have been used by the Owlbear and enters the fungus cavern again. Now you take the remaining unexplored tunnel from this area and look into the cavern it leads too.

Rotting leaves and other vegetation fill this small, irregular cavern. Water drips from slimy vines and roots that hang from the ceiling, collecting into puddles on the uneven floor. Three small openings, little more than wide cracks in the stone, lead to the northwest, southeast, and south.

Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

Perception +23:
You notice that the giant mound of vegetation in the center of the room appears to have moved and you could swear that the thing is aware of your presence....

Perception +23 and Knowledge Nature +16:
You realize that there is a Shambling Mound in the center of this cavern. Shambling mounds, also called shamblers, appear to be heaps of rotting vegetation. They are actually intelligent, carnivorous plants with a fondness for elf flesh in particular. What serve as a shambler’s brain and sensory organs are located in its upper body. Shambling mounds typically have an 8-foot girth and stand between 6 and 9 feet tall. They weigh about 3,800 pounds.

Shambling mounds are strange creatures, more akin to animate tangles of creeping parasitic vines than single rooted plants. They are omnivorous, able to draw their sustenance from nearly anything, wrapping their creepers around living trees to draw forth the sap, sending rootlets into the soil to absorb raw nutrients, or consuming flesh and bone from crushed prey.
