Actually, that's what I'm wondering. Grigori is dealt with. We got what was likely the core of the cult of Gyronna - although some elements are left. Do we still need to do any exploration?
Finnegan "Devilbow" Rook
I mean, they're a really long distance away. Can we hold off on that until, say, Book 5-ish?
(The book is literally called War of the River Kings. I suspect we will have our revenge.)
But yes, kingdom! Let us rule with iron fists!
Alexander Orlovsky
Yeah, I think we can let Pitax do their thing for now and just prepare for whatever they have planned in later books. I actually lost all my maps in a recent computer wipe, so I'm going to work on recreating them this weekend.
Preliminary ideas are to make a stockyard in Voronakholm and take advantage of the huge bump that'll give us.
Radomir Shax
Agreed.
It might be wise to start quietly boosting our armies.
Also, can we also start to make diplomatic forrays with the other more lawfulnon humans tribes? Y'know make deals and what not to bind our strengths together (while also plannign to crush them against our enemies)
Alexander Orlovsky
So, preliminary ideas while I rebuild the maps:
Claim [06,08] and [07,07] = 2BP
Terrain Improvements:
Farm on 07,07 = 4BP
Farm on 06,08 = 4BP
Roads on 07,07 = 3 BP
Settlement Improvements:
Stockyard (voronakholm) 10 BP
This reduces our Consumption by 9 (4 for the two farms, then +1 for 5 farms around Voronakholm.) We'll get a +2 for the two hexes, which leaves us 7 to work with. We've got 2 open in the Granaries, so we should shoot for a military unit that costs 5 Consumption and we won't have to build a farm next month to offset the two hexes we'll claim.
We've only got 8BP left after all that, so maybe *just* whatever the army is. We could also forgo the army, but we need to use that extra consumption on something. Any ideas?
On a side note, our kobolds are level 4 Rogues. Time to get some divine or arcane magic orders?
Finnegan "Devilbow" Rook
Magic School is out of our budget at the moment - depending on how much we make with our Economy check. Where are we at with religious structures? I'm thinking that after we just came down hard on the cult of Gyronna, it might not be a bad idea to show we're quite welcoming of religion - for appearance's sake, if nothing else.
Unrelated to Kingdom Building, a friend of mine is having a rough time right now. My posting may be spotty. Bot as needed.
Alexander Orlovsky
I think our High Priest would be upset if we didn't put up a shrine to Erastil first. After that I was thinking Abadar and then whoever as long as they're not chaotic.
We can technically afford a Shrine this month (8BP), but then we'll have nowhere for that extra "grain" to go. Also, the -1 Unrest (I think) will go to waste since we don't have any Unrest at the moment. With any luck we will next month and we can build a Shrine or two!
Finnegan "Devilbow" Rook
Whatever deity's fine with me. Long as they don't try to tell me what to do, I'm good with it.
Is Finnegan's response. He isn't really "religious" per se - it's a prayer to whichever god happens to be relevant to his current situation for him.
Radomir Shax
The First is relevant in all things and at all times.
As is the Midnight Lord. Let us all make joyful noises on glory of his dark name!
Othniel Laurentius
Othniel has never gotten to really study it, but has always been very interested in magic (and knowledge more generally), and is as such a Nethysian. I guess that doesn't have much direct application to our situation, but becoming known as a center of learning and magical study is never a bad thing.
Finnegan "Devilbow" Rook
I mean, I think Desna's more relevant in my not getting ganked journeying from point A to point B, but I guess you can make the case Asmodeus works there, too.
Anyway, I believe we start with the Upkeep Phase and need to make a Stability Check, yes?
Also, didn't Grigori increase our current Unrest by 2?
Alexander Orlovsky
Did he? Oh, then we should do the Stockyard next month and we can handle two shrines this month. Maybe one to Erastil in Novyi Svet and one to Abadar in Voronakholm? We can do the evil ones later after we've established Lawful being the important part to our neighbors. ;)
Alexander Orlovsky
Turn 15 Upkeep Phase:
1. Stability Check: DC 37, roll is at +30
2. Pay Consumption: Consumption 0
3. Fill Vacant Magic Item Slots: Two minor wondrous items
4. Modify Unrest: +2
Stability: 1d20 + 30 ⇒ (7) + 30 = 37 Success!
Recommendations for spending:
Claim [06,08] and [07,07] = 2BP
Terrain Improvements:
Farm on 07,07 = 4BP
Farm on 06,08 = 4BP
Roads on 07,07 = 3 BP
Settlement Improvements:
Shrine in Voronakholm 8 BP
Shrine in Novyi Svet 8 BP
(This gets our Unrest back to 0 and bumps our Loyalty a bit.)
Finnegan "Devilbow" Rook
Looks good to me, with one question.
The map on the Campaign Info page says Stanimir Turn 13. Is that map up to date, and if not, do we have a link to the updated map?
Alexander Orlovsky
Recently I lost a bunch of stuff on my hard drive. The maps were part of that "bunch of stuff". I'm in the process of finding something to replace them. Should be done "soon". :)
Finnegan "Devilbow" Rook
Ah, the joys of technology! How it makes our lives so much easier - then turns around and punches us in the face with that.
Seriously, that sucks. As an IT professional, I empathize.
Alexander Orlovsky
Turn 15 Edict Phase:
1. Assign Leadership: No changes.
2. Claim and Abandon Hexes: Claiming [06,08] (1BP), Claiming [07,07] (1BP)
3. Build Terrain Improvements: Farm on [06,08] (4BP), Farm on [07,07] (4BP), Roads/Bridge on [07,07] (3BP)
4. Create and Improve Settlements: Shrine to Abadar in Voronakholm [8 BP], Shrine to Erastil in Novyi Svet [8BP]
5. Create Army Units: No changes
6. Issue Edicts: Promotion (Standard) (Stability +2, -2BP), Taxation (Normal) (+2 Economy, - 2 Loyalty), Holidays (6) (+2 Loyalty, -2 BP)
Treasury: 2BP
Granary Storage: Novyi Svet (4), Voronakholm (4)
Economy Roll: +60 (+6BP Income)
Who wants to make the roll?
Finnegan "Devilbow" Rook
Economy: 1d20 + 60 ⇒ (9) + 60 = 69
Nice. Easy math. Divide by 3 to get 23+6=29 BP added to the treasury.
Incidentally, I'm thinking we might want to do more to bring our Stability up. I mean, it looks like our Economy roll is leaps and bounds higher than anything else. Probably wouldn't hurt to shore up our other modifiers next turn.
Alexander Orlovsky
We can start building up both Loyalty and Stability, but we're at *about* the right numbers right now. Stability should be within 5 of the Control DC. We're a little low on that right now. Loyalty should be within 10 and we're slightly low on that.
Economy is far more important than both of those for building up the country, which is why it's so much higher. But, you're right, we need to boost our Stability and Loyalty a small bit.
The Winds of Fate
I will go ahead and make some rolls for the Event Phase.
Roll to see if there will be an Event:
1d100 ⇒ 19
1d100 ⇒ 31
26–50 Dangerous kingdom event
1d100 ⇒ 31
29–41 Food shortage
Food Shortage: Spoilage, treachery, or bad luck has caused a food shortage this turn. Attempt a Stability check. If you succeed, Consumption in the next Upkeep Phase increases by 50%. If you fail, Consumption in the next Upkeep Phase increases by 100%.
The Winds of Fate
Since he counts as a defeated foe, he is the list of Grigori's things:
Combat Gear potion of cure light
wounds, potion of cure moderate
wounds, potion of undetectable
alignment (3), scroll of scare, scroll of
sound burst, caltrops; Other Gear +1 chain
shirt, masterwork buckler, +1 rapier, shortbow
with 20 arrows, 132 gp
Alexander Orlovsky
We have a bunch of useful stuff on the loot list:
The Blue Dragonhide Shield and Breastplate are still there. Has no one taken them? They're a strict upgrade from any +1 Breastplate and Heavy Shield that we have since they'll let us put electricity resistance on them at half price later.
We have a bunch of cure potions. People should take them.
Bracers of Armor +2 - Eduard or Othniel should grab these.
Gloves of Swimming and Climbing - Finnegan or Othniel?
Ring of Animal Friendship - Anyone with a free ring slot?
Pearls of Power - Andrea
Wand of Lightning Bolt - Eduard? Alternatively, Alexander can *almost* automatically activate wands at this point.
But yeah, we really need to clear out this list of stuff.
Finnegan "Devilbow" Rook
I'll take the Alchemical Silver arrowheads to get some arrows made out of them, and I can take the Gloves of Swimming and Climbing, too.
As for the ring of animal friendship, I say sell it. It isn't something Finnegan has any interest in.
